Sigh. Well, at least he's not Tim Burton's wet (sewer) dream Danny Devito. I'm ready for a more grounded Penguin. I just hope he, y'know, LOOKS like the fvcking Penguin.

I knew someone would say it. Like ten people played that game, though (I thought both Telltale Batman games were fun but they did very poor business compared to their other games). He's not even recognizable as "Penguin" for anyone who doesn't already know that's who it's supposed to be.

Honest show of hands, would anyone here at a glance immediately say, "That's Oswald Cobblepot!" if they hadn't played that game? I doubt it.

I dunno man. I'm convinced that at some point over the last year, WB decided to use this movie as a test to see if they can completely miscast every single role and still make a ton of money. Somebody's ribbing SOMEbody, of that I am quite certain.

I also saw Matthew McWannabe "confirmed" as Harvey Dent on some website earlier but I swear it's like the fifth time. If true... doesn't exactly put any dents in my theory.

Eh, I don't want a grounded Penguin. I thought we would be finally headed with Batman into not so grounded stuff for once... I want giant hulking Killer Croc, roided Bane (but not TOO crazily), and Killer Moth flying around torching people. This just sounds like a continuation of the Nolan approach.

That said, I love Colin Farrell in everything.

Croc as portrayed in Squad was fine, he just could've had more to do. I'm frankly not a huge fan of Giant Mutant Croc. He's essentially just The Lizard from Spider-Man, at that point. The more stuff we can do with make-up and costuming and not have to go full-blown CGI, the better, in my general opinion. Plus, Croc was originally a rather vicious and cunning individual, rather than the mindless beast he's been portrayed as more recently, and I think the former has a lot more potential to be a compelling villain.

I agree we still need a decent Bane. B&R's Bane looked perfect but everything else was terrible. Nolan's Bane was alright, or at least better than THAT, but skewed too far away from the character's roots so as to be more "grounded", and also continued the trend of, "Huge muscular guys can't be intelligent masterminds, so let's make him a sidekick", and that's terrible. Sadly, I doubt we'll ever get to see it, because "Big = Dumb" in Hollywoodland. Sh*t, they even made Bane Harley's f*cking lackey in those Telltale games. HARLEY's lackey. And they wonder why the consensus among people who've played them was, "Gameplay was great, story was terrible"? There's one reason.

I'm not sold on Killer Moth/Charaxis, though. I mean, I guess he's a "classic" villain, in a sense... but his main claim to fame has always been, "Got beaten up by a girl on her way to a costume party, whose only 'Special Abilites' were YMCA Karate and hot yoga - while she was wearing stiletto heels, no less." Sure, SOMEbody had to do the job to Batgirl in her first story, but... they had to have known that whoever they used would be irredeemable forever after that. I've always been kind of baffled why they didn't just make up so no-name rather than sacrifice Killer Moth.

Y'know who'd be a great "minor" villain who would be terrific for a more "grounded" Batman movie? The REAL Clayface, the Basil Karlo one. Not the more familiar "Golgothan Sh*t Demon"-looking version of recent years but the original "psychotic actor-turned-serial killer", Master of Disguise version. Little bit of "Jack The Ripper" with a bad guy who can literally look like anyone. I see tons of potential in that. The "Mud Pack" storyline in Detective Comics back in '89 or so turned me on to the character and I've been a big fan ever since.

I like all the Clayfaces but it always bothers me how every adaptation skips right to the Sh*t Monster version and ignores Karlo completely. I get that it's more "exciting" but I like to see the originals get a little credit and attention as well.

I mostly think the Arkham Asylum games hit the perfect balance with things... except for Bane. Realistic-esque, but still some Burton kind of ambiance with things allowed to go crazy when suitable (like with Killer Croc in the sewers and such). Unless we're talking about Bane in Arkham Origins -- that was decent.

Can't really argue with that. I only played the first two so far but I highly enjoyed them. I'm aware of where the story goes in "Arkham Knight" and while I find it a little bit eye-rolling, it's a way to go. It's not a bad Batman universe.

My only problem with them is, it puts people who liked them a lot into the headspace of "Everything HAS to be like THIS and ONLY this, now!", and that's annoying. I sh*t you not, when buying one of the DC fighting games, and years later when buying one of the Telltale Batman games, the clerk in either case (different person each time) tried to dissuade me from buying them by saying, "Dude, if you wanna play a game with Batman in it, don't bother with this, check out those Arkham games. They're literally the only Batman games you'd ever need to play." I'm generally rather polite in Real Life, to a fault, actually, but I had to really bite my tongue so as not to rip the guy a new ass and tell him to mind his own business. For one thing, I was a little insulted that he assumed I wasn't already familiar with them, since I'd already purchased and beaten the first two, and secondly, what I buy is my own business, and while I don't mind a suggestion, "Don't buy This, buy That instead" is something I don't have any patience for. I politely explained that Yeah, I'm well-acquainted with those games, I just like something different from time to time and that should be allowed. He kind of shrugged condescendingly, and that's where it ended. The fact that it happened years apart with different salespeople struck me as odd.

But THEN I couldn't get anyone I talked to to even give those games the time of day because "Well, but Arkham tho." Like YES, they're awesome, but other things can be different and still Also Awesome. I really like how the Telltale games play, for example, I just don't like the story. They probably could have and should have done more business, but you couldn't get anyone to play them if you paid them to. "Because Arkham, tho." They didn't fail because they were Bad Games, they failed because people are convinced that one flavor of ice cream is all anyone really needs, and that's simply not correct.

It's a very good series, though. I have all of 'em, I just have way too many games to play and I promised myself I'd get all the Riddler Trophies in Arkham City before moving on to the rest of 'em. I gotta stop doing sh*t like that to myself.

I hope this Penguin looks like a penguin and not just a normal guy with an umbrella.
Otherwise, what is the point in calling him Penguin?

I don't really care how accurate Colin Farrel looks as Penguin. It's okay to have different versions of things. Just like Arkham vs Telltale was mentioned above. Different interpretations.

When it comes to those games, I love the Arkham series. Essentially a wet dream of a video game series for me, even with it's faults like a majority of weak boss battles (Freeze was good in AC).

The telltale games I wanted to love, but just didn't. Not because they weren't Arkham, but just a lack of compulsion from story & gameplay. I tried twice but lost interest both times. It's a shame because apparently they have a lot going for them quality wise. I may even try a third time, but I suppose for me and many others, the Arkham series is a more gratifying experience. The agency to call the Batmobile with the click of a button or controlling moments in which you try to find an escape before Joker's bomb explode are such a thrill. I didn't experience anything like that in the, admittedly, first two chapters of Telltale Batman.

Casting for this film is a little strange, in that these are actors that stand out playing roles we may not have expected...but there is ton of talent on the set. That's a positive thing to me.

If Penguin isn’t fat than he’s not Penguin. I don’t know why they’re fat-shaming by making Penguin thin. Fat people deserve representation.

Imagine being told you need to "get fat" for a role. It's probably not half as fun as it sounds, but it does in fact sound fun. Picking out the most fattening, unhealthy foods you can think of with the great excuse of it being for your career.

Of course, the depression and feeling of disgust would seep in quickly, but let's not think about that. This is a happy dream.

Actors are known for gaining weight just for roles. Christian Bale did it, Alec Baldwin did it, etc

Don't forget about the dude who did "Supersize Me".

Btw, I had McDonald's yesterday and it was awful. Not even being a taste snob, but my food was just ****ed up and weird. Prob a location issue, but I can't go back now.
