I don't see where the problem is. If someone thinks that the discussion kills the show for him, just don't read the episode discussion threads. Is it that hard? There are plenty of other threads to look at in this place.

This is a forum and everyone has the right to share their opinion as long as they don't violate the rules. Last time I checked, overanalyzing isn't something forbidden by the terms of service.

Sure, these were great moments, but I don't want to know if the sword that stabbed Leo was made by Hattori Hanzo or Yoshimitsu Kawaguchi. I honestly don't care, really. And that's what the fans do. They take great moments and analyze it until the greatness is gone and then they decide to analyze it even more until the actual scene seems like a parody of the scene the fans discussed in the first place.
I wasn't talking about just you Anarky but now that you've went further into what you really hate that people are doing I agree with you...maybe you should actully say what you hate instead of going off on a tanget if you really want to get your point across....especially to people who over anylize things haha btw no you are not allowed to have any emotions I forbid it!
ugh yea dude I dont wanna hear about that crap either..I just dont care..nor do I know what these people are talking about...I'm a turtles fan not some ninja wanna be expert..I just ignore it..and keep on lovin' me some TMNT!
I'm glad I understand what your trying to say now though

We don't talk about things like that...we talk about things that involve the future plot. What your talking about is completely left feild. And though it's an attempt to mock us your examples are just too off. Like I said it kill sthe surprise, as you said kills the magic, and as Jester and Backworm both said, don't read it.

Yeah, right. And if I shouldn't read what the fans have to say, where is my place in this fandom? That's why I keep asking myself what I still find in the fandom or where my place is. And no, I don't think my stuff is completely "left field", because there were discussions like that (see "Tales of Yoshi" for example).

To me, you fans are killing the show.
Anarky, I understand what you're saying, but here's my deal: What you call "analysis" I call going "ooh! look at that neat thinger there!" Because the TMNT world is astounding, and it really is magical. If my heart didn't beleive in that world, I woudln't talk about it as if it were real. Not that scientists have hearts or anything. There's a flux capacitor in there.

Seriously, "Anarky vs. the over-analysing part of TMNT fandom" debate is slowly becoming a classic.

Your right, Anarky...we should just fill up 6 pages a week saying "Wow that was a good episode!" and "I can't wait for next week!" And analyzing the future of the show based on the hints they give us...is COMPLETLY killing the show.

Okay my take on this is what is the point of having the Technodrome Forum if we can't discuss our love of the show? I mean some of us do analyze and get a bit wordy but that's just because we love the show so much. I don't find anything wrong with discussion, critiquing, analysis of a show. Sure Turtles does have that quality of having to suspend belief on some things. That we understand. But for us (at least for me) it's fun to speculate on some things. Connect past story threads with others (because that is what the writers do on this show).

Yes this is a children's show but the writer's also made it to have adult themes that are inferred in the show if the viewers so choose. No one said you had to leave the fandom or anything by all means discuss what you want. But I think us overanalyzers have just as much right to discuss what we lilke or don't like as far as I know we aren't breaking any rules.

Oh and so this isn't completely off topic. Baxter got totally "pwned" for insulting Leatherhead and Donnie's bubble. I thought that was hilarious.

No you didn't, but I did. I just feel that, if the fandom needs to pick everything apart until there's nothing left that could be picked apart, I don't want to be part of it any more. This is not a threat or anything, it's merely a statement and something that is important to me. I don't want to know that Pinkeye-Shredder works as a poledancer in a penguin's club in Swaziland for a living. It's bad enough that I know that it's Pinkeye-Shredder.

Heh, funny. Flashback to "Tales of Yoshi": Spitfire mentionned that Yoshi's dress looked just like the one The Bride in Kill Bill wore and the next second somebody went "No, you f***ing idiot, it's obviously a reference to Game of Death" and thus killing that part of the discussion. Also, my comment about the woman there, whatever her name was, being a prostitute was completely ignored and people continued bitching about how important the error in her kimonos were. So: No, I can't discuss whatever I want, because obviously I have to be wrong and the fandom-consensus obviously isn't.

Y'know, as nutty as it may sound, Anarky does make a meaningful point. But this is hardly the place to be discussing such things -- this thread is for discussion concerning "Good Genes." If y'all want to debate about wether or not discussing the historical accuracy of cartoon kimonos is somehow relevant, do it somewhere else.

If you bury your most interesting comment under sarcastic remarks about other peoples' comments, don't be shocked when other people don't focus on it. You have interesting things to say, and I wish you would just say them. Participating in the discussion is the only way to influence where it leads.

Basically, yeah, that's exactly what I mean.

Eww. That doesn't help, iris. :p

I do see what you mean. And I'm really sorry... it's just that a lot of us feel like it just enhances it, and makes the magic that much more... magical? Not the nitpicking, I mean, but the examination and rationalization... you don't want it rationalized. We all want to enjoy the fantasy, but, while that sort of analyzation/rationalization brings some of us closer to the fantasy, it's bringing the fantasy closer to reality for you, and that kills it. I know, I'm all gushing philosophy here, but I don't know how else to say it. And I don't really know what to do about it; it's just something that some people are going to do. I don't know how to stop it, it's not something you can just turn on and off. You see an ep, and out comes all the enthused examination.

Quote:

That's not really fair... but I see we're talking about two different things here, too: overanalyzing what they gave us, and trying to predict what they will give us later. You don't like being spoiled (because something in all our theories is probably going to be right, and now you know it, and it turns out to be as bad as a spoiler), others don't like nitpicking and reality-izing.

Quote:

No, Anarky's right, we have dissected scenes like that, before (I certainly did that to the stabbing scene in "Exodus", trying to infer what the characters are thinking and feeling down to the minute millisecond, through an animator's drawing. We want to understand it, but there's not much to understand. If someone else had drawn it, the interpretation could have been completely different. It's not concrete. And I think that's Anarky's thing... we're reminding him that it's only a drawing.) It's fascinating to some to peel away the layers and examine them individually, but for others, you pull it apart and there's nothing left.

Quote:
Also, my comment about the woman there, whatever her name was, being a prostitute was completely ignored and people continued bitching about how important the error in her kimonos were.
Only because you wrapped it in so much sarcasm, I for one thought that was part of the sarcasm. I didn't know you really meant that.. and that is something that's interesting to hear, and I didn't know that. I personally don't think that was the intent, but that's not the point. I wouldn't have ignored it if I thought you were serious.

Quote:

I know, it's sort of off-topic, but it needs to be talked about, apparently, or we wouldn't be. It's relevant to this thread because it has to do with how we are discussing the episode. The debate can have its own thread, but the contention is here, in this one, and a debate elsewhere may not stop it in here.

I apologize, Anarky, if I've antagonized you... I do see why you're upset. But I just can't help examining it like I do, and I don't know if anyone else can, either... just like for you, it would ruin the magic for me, and a lot of others. I have no answer, except to have lots and lots of patience.

So... to get back on topic, what do you want to discuss? I'm open to suggestions.

I'll say that somebody has to over-analyze. Otherwise, there'd be not much inspiration for future plots to evolve. But, I'll leave that to the writers.

In the meantime, I'll wait until next Saturday to see what happens with the Turtles and Karai.

Hehe, niiice. Though I tend to agree. I love overanalyzing. It kinda makes me think they were thinking SO DEEPLY into the plot to put everything in there. It's one of the things I love so dearly about the Harry Potter books. EVERYTHING has a point in it!!

As for my thoughts? Well... really I have to watch this episode again, because I was tired and feeling yucky when I finally laid down to watch it, so I fell asleep.

More later, darlings.

I know, I know. Y'all are just on the edge of your seats wondering what I'm gonna say. Hehe.

I think his intention was to have us analyze his post, picking that one little thing and focusing on it (thereby playing on the subject matter at hand), which no one did. *shrugs*

Putrescent, I agree with you that the show is not just for kids, but please give more credit to the "kids". I was a kid once, when Gargoyles first started airing, and as many people here know that is a deep show too. Even as a kid I realized that. I could go into detail about why I loved it so much, but the point is the deep nature of the show and its characters helped me get through some difficult years in school. Just because they are kids, doesn't mean they don't understand or don't see the similar things as the adults do.

Anarchy, I am sorry that you feel a bit ostracized by the community. As you've probably seen, I don't post much around here. I'm not one for theorizing, but I enjoy reading other peoples' ideas. I watch the show with anticipation, because even though I know all the theories, I really don't know what will happen next. When everyone is proven wrong, I am excited. When people are proven right, I am still excited. Why? Because the show is still great now matter what people say or think! While people can predict what happens, no one can predict the emotions it brings out in me. Yeah, I watch for plot, but I also watch on a more visceral level. I wonder if that is true for others as well. Maybe the Technodrome isn't for you, but I doubt you want to leave the TMNT community as a whole. You can be a fan without being an active participant in a forum. I know I am a fan because I love TMNT. I think that is the only requirement for being a fan, what you feel in your heart
