Somebody on the show wanted to know my thoughts so I figured I'd share my more articulate review with y'all as well.
Well, as far as it being an epic, game-changing series of events is concerned, it definitely delivers. It had my full attention. But to be perfectly honest, I guess you could say I'm a bit biased against it, for selfish reasons, maybe. It kinda felt like season 1's finale, except that everything went wrong for the good guys, & the turtles lost. Kinda felt like retreading old ground, in that respect, you know? Shredder/Splinter brawl, Kraang invasion, mass terror, etc. Don't get me wrong, I completely enjoyed it on an objective level, like, as a two part special, set to lay new ground or bring tensions to a head, yo, it's amazing. But, like, there were soooo many things from earlier episodes that weren't resolved or addressed, I felt, or at the very least, there are a ton of characters without closure. Rather than seal off certain character arcs or whatever, it only seeded more plot threads & things to be concerned about. I guess I'm just used to season cap ends addressing the major points of the stories prior, & this one really serves more as prelude to season 3 than it does the end of season 2, you know what I mean? I understand why things were done that way, given the new stuff is a few mere weeks away. It's just that I wanted season 3 to feel more fresh & new, & I guess I'm worried now that there's too much baggage being carried over into it, & that it won't feel as unique. Timmy is still frozen, Slash & Newtralizer are off somewhere raising hell, Karai's transformation & subsequent disappearance, Xever desperate for his lost humanity, there's a whole assortment of different mutants unaccounted for doing God knows what. I figured since the season was about the outbreak of mutagen, the finale would kinda fix the damage done. I dunno. I think I envisioned it being a team up of all the victims of the ooze rallying together to stop the Kraang, though in hindsight that may have been the predictable way to go... Also I'm very surprised you guys opted to keep Bebop & Rocksteady's mutation for the next season, considering we've seen them in their human forms already. Shredder could use all the help he can get, it seemed only natural that during this time he would want more muscle. I guess I just didn't expect the unhappy ending, not that it's a bad thing (I love the Mirage comics for the fact they're so grim & depressing). Usually with cartoons, turtles especially, things always work out. Caught me off guard that we were left in utter dismay, but I suppose that speaks to the quality of the series, in that it takes risks & often surprises you. & that's a good thing. Irma's twist was so outta left field, never saw that coming. Totally awesome. The nods to Leo's micro-issue of the original comics was great. Absolutely adored seeing the Bode (or was it Bode inspired?) graffiti, & use of Gilbert Gottfried. The pacing was stellar, flowed perfectly. The tension was high, as were emotions, & yet it still had that free flowing humor seamlessly thrown into the madness without feeling forced. So to remove my pre-conceived notions of what it should or could have been, it's most definitely solid work. It does what it's supposed to, ultimately, & that's have you chomping at the bit for season 3. My only real disappointment with what's to come is that we will now likely have even less of Splinter, who I find to be underused as it is (perhaps criminally so, given how wonderful his voice actor's performances are). Super into the whole vision quest concept, though. Dunno if you're into the old school comics, but for those of us who are, there's no better time with the turtles than when they're introspective in Northhampton, so I'm very eager for that. |

You know I completely forgot the search for the lost ooze. Did the Turtles collect them all?

It's hardly "upstate" though....it's only slightly north but mostly east.

Wow, what a really good way to enter the finale. I do have a few questions and minor nitpicks though.
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
This season finale improves on the last one in almost every way. It's darker and there are actual stakes. 9/10.

While this was a great episode, I just think other episodes, especially "Vengeance is Mine", were stronger episodes.
You know, with the setting taking place in the snow, I wonder if they'll try to adapt the Mikey one-shot issue, even if it doesn't take place in New York. I think even a Donnie one-shot adaption could possibly work as well. |

Okay, so thanks to evan2000, I was able to watch the episode. I will start off by saying, summaries cannot do this episode justice. My emotions were all over the place reading the spoilers and they were intensified actually watching it. I felt sympathetic, sad, awkward, relieved, ecstatic, amused, indifferent, and satisfied at different points of the ep. I also found the Irma thing ironic, but I'll get into that later.
You know, too bad Kurtzman wasn't in this ep. Oh, and like I was saying earlier about Kirby, poor thing. They're going to have to lock him up when his sanity fully goes, but I did laugh when he was hit with the mutagen after he said "groovy". I guess anytime the Kraang are involved, he will be a victim. I'll start with the indifference since this is lighthearted, subplot territory. I was never into the whole Casey x April/Donnie x April thing all that much and am pretty neutral about both. It's more like whatever happens, happens. It can be No one x April, Donnie x April, or Casey x April for all I care, but this episode regarding this left me feeling very indifferent, and it was the suddenness of affection that April seemed to just start showing Casey. For me it felt forced. I too am wondering if she did this as a way to get Donnie to reject her since it's obvious she's now officially aware that Donnie romantically likes her and stopped his confession. Maybe she actually does harbor some feelings for him, but definitely doesn't want to deal with it given the awkwardness of actually officially hearing Donnie confess, hence why she cut him off. I don't know, I just feel that there will be more to it as it needs to be resolved at some point anyway. Ok, that off my chest, on to my thoughts on other parts of the ep, which I will be rewatching, while my phone's connection is doing ok.^^ I'm glad we got the conflict between Leo and Donnie. Loved it. For me, I've never come across this. The two generally calm brothers having a dispute was refreshing because they usually always get along. Something I didn't expect was, "If I were leader..." from Donnie (oh and I liked Mikey's "Oh snap" lol). It was also nice seeing Donnie actually standing up for himself in a way, as my interpretation of him is that he just takes everything and locks it away. Like when Leo told Raph to "suck it up" and Donnie declared how that was his thing. I like the fact that Donnie felt bad after they were separated from Leo and after he was beaten down. I know that usually you would get Raph for this, but the change was a breath of fresh air. When Leo flew through the window he looked surprised or shocked. He didn't rage...at that point. Anyway, I felt a bit bad for Donnie because his actions lead to Leo's being hurt. Something I do wish, though is that it would've shown them slightly clashing more prior to this. I will say this, stress could've also factored into this, especially when leaving the lair and the two were arguing over how to find Casey and Raph. I did shake my head at this, though as the first thing I thought of was...."Um T-Phones...they work, right?" lol But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, they were very stressed and when stressed, on a personal level, most don't think straight. As for Raph this ep, I really liked him and how he stood up for Donnie as well as his moments with Mikey. Loved them and how hard he tried to keep Casey safe. I also liked how he was raging seeing Splinter getting beaten down by Shredder. The way he was banging on the gate with his head and then his fists going into rage mode, his eyes going white, trying to get through was very emotional. He had the strongest reaction there. It was reminiscent of the 1990 film to me. Raph had the strongest reaction to Splinter's kidnapping. I really do sense that Raph will want to get his hands on Shredder for what he did to Leo and Splinter. Mikey calming him down was great. So many feels. And speaking of Mikey, he was beyond awesome. As I've said, season 2 has been good to him more than season 1, imo because he hasn't been coming across as completely stupid or ADHD with the attention span of a gnat. Even as season 1 progressed though, I felt he was improving. I like it and Ciro has definitely delivered and kept his word. Actually, I felt that it was going there as early as Wormquake and felt the stuff for the Dimension X ep with Mikey was foreshadowed as early as Parasitica. Oh and I loved Mikey's "This is for my brother!" line. I also loved Mikey's fighting style. I've said from the very beginning that he's my favorite fighter out of the four and he's always been capable, imo, just needed to focus. Still interesting how the most unfocused one has the weapon that requires the most focus. The best fight of the ep was definitely Leo's. Definitely did the Leo one shot justice. I also really enjoyed Leatherhead's fight. Also love that Karai saved Splinter. Now for the Irma stuff. I found it ironic. If Irma had maybe met the turtles in that ep with Ho Chan, maybe the invasion would've happened then...no wait, it wouldn't have. They weren't ready yet. But, seems when Irma Godfrey saw the turtles and said it, she reacted. I wonder if there is a real Irma somewhere being held captive someplace and that Kraang just took her identity later on. Maybe she was real up until the point Irma started asking about April's secret friends. Her being a Kraangbot the entire time just doesn't sit right with me. The cops were Kraangbots too, but I doubt they were the whole time. I also have a theory. If Irma was a Kraangbot the entire time could that be why Casey never seemed to warm up to her? Maybe he sensed something off with her? Also seems April's powers go nuts when she senses danger...which could've been why she never sensed anything with Irma. She was never a threat. I look forward to season 3 to see if they'll tie up any loose ends, like the one-ep mutants, Slash, Newtralizer, and I am really looking forward to the vision quests and Karai. Does she still have her human memories, or did she save Splinter purely out of instinct? Like she knows there's a connection, just not how. I'm also still hoping Fishface leaves Shredder's group after being pushed too far. I also wonder if Tigerclaw will change sides at any point. He sees how shortsighted Shredder is being as well as destructive and why does he have such a strong allegiance to Shredder? And that's all I have for now. I'm still in a high over it, and my god! MIKEY! Yes, what I sensed in Wormquake is happening! lol Even though for this incarnation I favor Leo and Donnie, I find Mikey the most interesting followed by Raph. |

But I think the line when April says, "You shouldn't talk, it just makes things hurt more." is a telling sign. Since both April and Donnie pinned the invasion on themselves during the duration of the episode, maybe they will still bond eventually for both know what the other is going through playing the self-blame game and will both want to be there for each other. But obviously still too soon to tell. Last edited by JTH; 09-20-2014 at 08:08 AM. |

Ok but really, after the events of the past several episodes, ones dealing with Karai, then the kraang oncoming then present invasion, tracking the few remaining mutagen containers would be low priority. There probably was only a couple left. After all the ones that had been been used on someone, the amount the turtles collected, and however many Baxter used in his giant vat, I'd say there wasn't too many left out there.
