Well, said, Spit.
And Type 97, I've never heard of that honestly. Most of the people I know who hate gay marriage are conservatives and extremely religious. Heck, I was taught to hate gay people, but I grew up and realized that what I was taught to believe was a big fat lie. I learned to open up my mind and let people be who they want to be. Who cares what people do? Doesn't it say in the Bible to judge not lest ye be judged? Too bad people don't see it that way.

And I grew up and made my own observations. I found that the most hateful, bigoted, and narrow-minded people are not the conservatives but the liberals and leftists, and the latter respond to views that disagree with their own with harrassment and insults, since they often cannot respond with valid counterarguments. Atheists I have found love to think they are wiser than the religious, but often they are not and don't like to be told so. And as for the "open-minded", I have found out that they aren't. They're just closed-minded in a different way. As for what the Bible said, I always took that verse to be ironic. Is there really anybody who doesn't judge other people? Of course there aren't. So I interpret that verse as saying that God judges people, and has the moral right to do so, because they judge others all the time. |

I agree liberals support free speech as long as it's speech they agree with.

I have religious folk in my family, there aware I'm an Athiest, they don't care, and I don't care they think we go to a fairytale bulls*it Disney world when they conk it, I don't judge them for it, as it's brought them up well and they've treated me well because of it. Of course, there the types that don't look down at people like me as "unwise and closed-minded" for having a different, more reallistic opinion of the world, there not arrogant, hypocritical judgemental bums who paint everyone with the same brush.
If I overreacted, I apologise, but tdlr: There asshats on both sides and one isnt better than the other. Life is sugar and s*it

Indeed...I can't say that as a Christian conservative I agree 100% with Type 27, but your posts is screaming with contradictions, Zarius.
"I don't care they think we go to a fairytale bulls*it Disney world when they conk it..." sounds very open minded and not the least bit hateful.

I like how Spitfire summed it up.
I still don't think it's a religious thing at all, I think people just use that argument as a crutch because they don't want to say what they mean: "I just think guys having buttsex is icky". They know that what other people do in private, especially sexually, is really nobody's business, and that they have NO right to be offended by it as long as nobody's getting hurt, but the very thought of it keeps them up at night, so they say "Umm... I don't like it because GOD doesn't like it! Otherwise, I'd be TOTALLY cool with gay people! Seriously! But it's not my call!" Most of these people don't know a lick of Biblical scripture and never bring it up in any other context, but the thought of gay people turns them all religious an' sh*t. Shyeah, right. I automatically have zero respect for anyone who refuses to say exactly what they mean and nothing else. Don't hide behind a book of fables as the backbone for your alleged moral code, which you casually disregard at every turn most of the time anyway. I'unno guys I get a kick out of Zarius. He's rather intelligent, if caustic at times. I rarely have issues with his views, specifically, but I agree it seems some comments are designed solely for a reaction. But I can appreciate that as well. As far as Type 97, and anyone else who implied I somehow failed to make a logical argument that is totally bullet-proof, I can only assert that, historically speaking, those who disagree with me tend to be wrong about pretty much everything in general. So there. |

Leo asks why it is a religious thing.....I ask why it's a political thing. Liberal or conservative....there's people on both side of the fence who would prefer that gay people didn't exist. I really hate when an issue which is basically something individual to a person, I.e. comfort level with gay people, becomes this whole political thing.
In fact I really hate the current political climate which is SUPER polarized. And it is bullsh!t to say it is the fault of one side or the other because both sides do it. I can't wait to vote in November and get this political season over. Finally, I'll answer why it's religious. Long time ago people were grossed out by men having buttsex.....so they made sure that stuff stayed in the bible when they were deciding what books stayed in and what was left out (like the apocrypha). Now they can point to those passages to support their own personal views. It's a personal view....but with something to back it up. Gay rights is the civil rights of this time. |

Yes, I agree about the politics of it, but these politicians are also using their religious beliefs to back up their hatred of gay marriage. I just think that politicians should keep their beliefs out of their campaigns and recognize that not everyone believes the same way they do. They should also recognize that if they want to help the people, they should give certain people the right to do as they please whether they believe in it or not. This is supposed to be a free country, but it hasn't been for years, and I highly doubt any of us will be truly free.
And, Zarius, I may disagree with you on some things, but I agree with your views here. Same with you, Leo.

I'm full of it a'ight. Full of wisdom, knowledge, sarcasm, paranoid schizophrenia, insight, social commentary, trendy cliche's, and dead baby jokes. And above all, humility. I've got bags of humility.
Feel free not to agree, this is America. I agree with Katie, it's just the latest Civil Rights issue. Women's suffrage, blacks rights to own land, the Irish's right to work, black rights in general, women's rights to work... And now, people's right to be gay, marry amongst their own gender, adopt children together, visit each other in the hospital, inherit property, and eventually get divorced. Anyone has the right to disagree with it, but history says you're spitting in the wind. So there. |

No, but some people still wish they weren't, and subject them to all kinds of harrassment and occasionally physically assault them. That fact is undeniable, as is the fact that it simply can't be that way.

Are there people attacked because they are gay? Sure. They are attacked because they are Asian, white, Christain, American. Everybody is subject to hate, violence, and bigotry for who they are. Get over it. And you failed to disprove what I've said. Liberals love to say they're not bigoted, but I have found that they are just as bad as the rednecks they like to excoriate. They're just bigoted in a different way. |

And, Type 97, gay people may have some of the rights other people have, but in some states, they aren't allowed to get married because of who they are and because some mindless idiots are against it. If that isn't bigotry, I don't know what is.
