Is it a big difference? Are these facts?

Green Lantern went in at #1, it made money, it was marketed as a hit but it was later it was stated that it didn't perform as well as what the studio had hoped hence it's seen a failure.

TMNT is seen as a hit now because it's debuted as #1 and has a whole gaggle of people claiming that because it made more money in it's first two weeks than Gaurdians of the Galaxy it it's second and third weeks that it "beat" that movie but it looks like there's a bit of a battle to make it's budget back. A financially stable movie series shouldn't have that problem.

If there is a difference between the two it's that WB has a number of big comic book properties and other avenues for them to explore Green Lantern in movies (such as a Justice League movie) but Paramount only has TMNT. Their options are more limited.

I remember when Viacom first bought the franchise a site did estimates on how many years it would take for them to start making a profit on it. It seems with this movie struggling to get it's budget back it's going to be some time yet and there's the key; they have to keep the franchise running and do that they...well have to keep the franchise running.

Dude, if you're waiting for the movie to somehow be labeled a failure I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm sure your views are bias because you personally didn't like the movie but you're kidding yourself if you think the film isn't a success at this point. 3 weeks out, 2 at number 1. And even though Guardians is number 1 again it was still neck and neck in terms of box office earnings for the week. It was never going to get numbers like Guardians but it's doing incredibly well because people keep going out to see it. You're trying to downplay it's accomplishments. Face it, people are enjoying the movie.

I know this movie isn't a failure, I know it wont be labelled a failure (which is a different thing entirely) unless something happens say like a sequel tanks in which case I can see this movie being retroactively labelled as a one. That wouldn't really be fair but it's the way these things work.

The way some people talk you'd think it actually did beat Guardians. I don't think it's dowplaying anything to point out that it's nowhere near that level.

Here's a question; why was it never going to get numbers like Guardians?

There was a long running thread on speculating whether Guardians would come out on top in August or if it would be TMNT. For months this movies defenders argued vehemently that GOTG's being an unknown property compared to TMNT being such a recognizable and much loved property made it a certainty that this movie would come out on top. So why is it now retroactively seen as an inevitability that Guardians would win? Why is doing half their business seen now as an accomplishment?

Here's the kicker for me; there's no reason why TMNT shouldn't be making Guardians level money. Comic book movies are very much big business right now, people who liked the 80s show are the right age to get nostalgic about it especially if they have kids of their own who love the Nick show, even teenagers who liked the '03 could turn out for this. There's a bigger media presence for TMNT than there has been in a long time. This movie should be making more. I could easily turn the argument around that if this movie was good it would be on Guardians level of success.

No, considering the amount of negativity surrounding the movie leading up to the release it should probably be doing poorly. This movie was counted out and predicted to fail since Day 1. That didn't happen.

Yeah, seen them before. Looking at it again though, is it just me or do Mikey and Leo look a bit in the face like something out of Hellraiser...

I couldn't find it. It's the first time I've seen this image. If this thread needs deletion, so be it. Thought it was new.

I agree with this. If it's a goofy comedy with a little action, go the sponge bob route, sure. It totally depends on the source you're taking from.

If it was Mirage, I think realism is the best way to go. Obviously, There's a lot of middle ground.

Yeah those definately look like they were intended for the alien origins; they look like a species from Mass Effect. And why do they have guns?!

I appreciate the artist's talent and vision though. It's realistic but too unfamiliar.
