I would LOVE to see Ryu. I mean, not as much as I'd want Ken, but still... He's got a great move set for Smash. I'd stay up all night so I could order that amiibo, too. Holy crap.

I don't like the fact that Capcom is getting two characters either. I'd much rather see development spent on Nintendo characters than multiple characters from the same company. One rep per third party was fine.

I wouldn't mind ryu but could that mean more sega and namco reps roy I'm indiffrent on he would need a new moveset for sure but I think mewtwo is way to floaty

I haven't been able to add amiibo to battles on 3DS since the Mewtwo update. The update has caused several glitches, but I can't find any reports of this particular problem.

This. It'd be weirdly unbalanced if Capcom got two fighters in, not to mention it wouldn't really make sense?

It's not about origin, but the fact that Rayman was far more marketed and performed better in Europe, specifically the UK, than it ever did worldwide. This colours your sentiments far more than anything else you've said and at least allows me to see it from your point of view and make sense of it. There's a large gulf of opinion between the UK and worldwide market as far as the NES-era of games are concerned. Historically, Mega Man has sold so poorly in Europe they may as well have never released the games there, so it's no wonder you feel the way you do. I can even agree that Snake isn't as iconic as his franchise is, but I also don't think he should have been in Brawl, nor should he return as DLC in 4. His ties to Nintendo history are tenuous at best. That said, they're both still far and away more important and iconic than Rayman worldwide.

Unfortunately there's far more to take into consideration in this argument than the popularity of characters in Europe alone. If that were the case there'd be room to argue for Dizzy being on the Smash roster. If you want to make an argument for Dizzy being iconic I'll back you on that one.

Mega Man has sold poorly in Europe? Wouldn't that be more due to the NES and the SNES selling less than the MS and the Genesis in the continent overall than due to poor marketing of the MM franchise? Anyway, I guess that explains why the Mega Man Anniversary Collection was not released in Europe.

With Ryu in and the returns of Roy, Mewtwo, and Lucas, I completely agree with an extra rep for Sega and Namco. The problem is while Ryu and Megaman are very notable characters, what do Sega and Namco have outside Pac-Man and Sonic? It wouldn't work too well, but I believe either a Tales character and even Nights would be interesting reps. (hell, through Castlevania in if it were possible)

I think with Night (or Jet Set), Castlevania, and Tales, no more third party if it were the last game. I'd honestly like the ninja Ryu from Ninja Gaiden (don't know how to spell his last name without messing up) the most though. Guess we'll have to wait and see with more to the roster with the ballot.

I'd honestly love to see Ryu as a playable character though, he's got history with Nintendo, he'd fit right in I believe.
