Saw the back of a card laying in the gutter across from my house this morning as I was leaving. Suddenly remembered I was going to grab it when I got home, in case it's anything important. Figured it might be an old gift card...but no, a Mastercard issued by a company I haven't heard of.

It just expired in Sept., so maybe it had been replaced and thrown out. Perhaps kicked back out by the local trash truck on recycling pickup day? But if that's the case, really folks... cut up your old cards. You never know when it will somehow end up just laying in a gutter. (Has now been cut and trashed.)

You know when people get home improvements done and the company or contractor puts a sign with their business on it on the lawn? What's the etiquette on taking it down?

Is there a time frame involved, like waiting a week or two afterwords? Do you do it after you've put down a first payment or wait until the work's been paid in full? Is the weather a factor? What if it's really windy where you live? You don't want it to come out of the ground and blow into your neighbor's yard. How about snow? What if you get three feet during a blizzard and the darn thing gets buried? Then come springtime when the snow melts, you're like, "Oh, yeah, I remember that," and your friends and family see it and ask, "This is still here? What's the matter with you?"

Does it depend on the amount of work that was done? If there was a huge job where a porch was added and new siding and roof put in, does that mean the sign should stay there for like a year or something? Or if it was just a matter of a new door installed, is that good for like a month, maybe a fortnight?

Or is there any etiquette at all? Do you just take the sign out once the workers leave and toss it in the trash? That's kind of callous, isn't it? What if one of the workers drives by the next day to admire their craft and sees no sign there? "Those miserable bastards," he says. And he tells his home improvement friends and suddenly you're blacklisted! No, there's got to be a certain amount of time before that sign is removed. But when?

What were people thinking when they had a "smoking section" and a "non smoking" section in public spaces with no divided walls? Often these spaces were right next to each other. Only one table away.

You could very obviously see the smoke traveling. What kind if thought process went in to that?

Right? I feel old that I can remember when that was still a thing. Really did always seem pointless since nothing was stopping it from circulating anyhow. Should have been the smoking section and the less-smokey second-hand section.


Edit: Probably just scared the crap out of a spider. Is that possible?

Looked over and it's just casually crawling across poor Leo's bald head. My ThreeZero figure by the computer. NOPE, we aren't doing that. Didn't want to hurt it, but think I just blew it half across the room to go find somewhere else to play spooky spider Halloween. lol

Something about amusement parks: I will never understand the appeal of The Scrambler. It's like someone survived a violent, spinning car wreck and said, "Other people need to experience this, too. I think they'll have fun."

Searched mouse traps on Target's site. Got ant traps, gnat traps... Mickey/Minnie Mouse stuff. What are you doing, Target?

Came across a cat hit by a car tonight. Kitten, maybe a couple months old. Barely alive, semi responsive. Eye popped out. Called 911 because I didn’t know what else to do. By the time local police arrived she had passed away. I’m a little messed up about it right now about it. Going to the vet in the morning to have the body cremated. I was holding her to me the entire time. She was still warm and I was hoping she would come out of it. I knew that she would lose the eye but I thought I could save her.

I’d like to think I gave her some comfort in her last moments.

I’m going to find a spot in my backyard to bury her remains. I’m going to call her Emily.

Oh, I’m so sorry.

At least she didn’t die alone. She died in the arms of someone who cared and gave her love, and you did the best thing for her.

Poor little thing, what an awful thing to happen and to have to come across. At least she knew some kind person's warmth and care before passing.

I don’t consider myself to be a softy, but something really set me off about this kitten. I spent all night cradling this dead cat and crying my eyes out. I kept thinking about how I might have been able to help this cat and what a piece of **** Michael Vick is. Not just him but his fans and those who patronize a National Football League that allows thugs like him to compete.

Anyway, I took Emily to the vet to be cremated this afternoon. Had her wrapped up in an old bath towel. Cost me over $130 but I’d like to think it was worth it. It’s weird that I felt like that over some cat I didn’t know. I know that there are people who would have just tossed her into a ditch. But it came with an urn in the shape of a treasure chest that I think I’ll keep in a guest room.

While I was there I met a chubby cat with black and orange patches over white fur. I didn’t know that this vet office did adoptions, but apparently they sometimes get surrenders and recoveries from police. This cat was lost or abandoned by some college student here in town.

Her name was Karma.

It was like God was whispering in my ear, “Psst. What are you waiting for, dumdass? It’s probably the only pu$$y you’re going to get anytime soon.”

Being an agnostic, I decided not to make any rash decisions. I can’t say for certain, but it is possible that tomorrow that I will be bringing home two cats. One fresh, another extra crispy.

No... But I once had that sudden heart sinking feeling and vague quiet panic when I suddenly wondered where my work device/phone was. I looked for that damn thing for a minute, even checked card pockets thinking maybe I put it in there with a handful of cards, before realizing I was HOLDING IT by the strap on the back.

Think I was also holding other things in that hand too, which is why I had a hold of it backwards from the strap and not the phone itself, but in that moment it just registered as GONE.

Oh lord... what is this generation going to be like at 80.

Look, neighbors down the road... if you're going to have a party (with a DJ?) on the Saturday before Halloween and I have to listen to the music from here, I expect at least a few fun Halloween tracks here and there, not just cruddy sounding rap.

A little bit of Monster Mash, Thriller, and what not while I was out messing with my yard decorations on this warm evening might have been cool.


At least the live "decorations" -- aka bats -- are out enjoying the bugs still taking advantage of this short warm up. Saw a pair actually have a brief fight. Then prob one of them come back through past me, lower and closer than usual, so that was neat.

Minus the ones customers damage... most sympathy cards in a store are already destined for a particular person. They're just sitting there waiting for them to die.

edit: But I always say, buy birthday cards well ahead of time. It would be rude of the recipients to kick the bucket before you can give it to them.


Been wishing I knew where my black mesh faceless mask and cloak went... Get an good oversized hood for it and skeleton printed gloves then wear it to work on Halloween. Maybe with a scythe strapped to my back. If anyone is there and sees me straightening/stocking the sympathy section, I could just stand there and whisper names as I put those cards away. Is that too twisted? lol

If anyone asks were particular cards are, I'll just do a creepy slow point. (And would I be brave enough to pull this off... prob not. lol)
