Well I'd hate to compare it to the Transformers comics, partially because Transformers has a deeper history and variation to it... but here's how Dreamwave managed it...

6 issue mini-series (Generation 1 [original series])
Ongoing series (Transformers Armada [current cartoon])
6 issue mini-series (War Within [takes place before the original series])

Upcoming

6 issue mini-series (Generation 1 volume 2)

that's a lot of books, especially considering that there were nearly 2 variant covers for every issue on average. Now some possibilities for the Ninja Turtles?

Mini-series regarding the TMNT = 1 story arc

Just consider how many story arcs you can make with the turtles, and Dreamwave has itself an infinit amount of mini-series if handled correctly. (They might lose the Transformers license because the sales have been dropping).

Ahh.. I just read a discusion on this in a EZboard TF forums. They said the War Within is based completely off of a Dreamwave story, since it does not use all the etails from the original G1 comic, and also uses some story from the G1 cartoon/movie.

As far as Armada goes... the comic is slightly different from the show (I heard the comic reads much better too). But those redesigns on the old characters are still too weird for this G1 fan, thus I digress from Armada.

Hence... very likely the new TMNT comic might be like the archies. Starts off the same, but goes in a different direction. We'll have to see!

Well the War Within book is totally original, but it is supposed take place before the G1 series... thus most the original characters like Optimus Prime and Grimlock have their Cybertronian bodies, as compared to their reformatted Earth bodies as seen in the original cartoon. The Armada book is based on the cartoon because it uses the same characters, but isn't a direct cartoon to book transfer. The characters themselves are totally unique, even though they have the same names. Most Transformers series are like that, like Beast Wars.
