Yeah the whole Karai-losing-her-mind thing would have made a lot of sense if they didn't just do that exact same plotline with Splinter and fixed his problem with 5 seconds of April mind powers.

I thought it was actually going to build off of that and have them get through to Karai like that (oh, like father like daughter, both losing their minds in moments of intense tragedy but being brought back by the memories of their family with a small nudge from April), but April is benched 2 minutes into the episode. It makes no sense.

I still enjoy the show, but damn if it doesn't keep getting sloppier and sloppier.

Was Mikey actually in Dem X or thought he was for months? I always figured it was only a few hours and when he said a few months it was just an exaggeration for a joke.

Like others, I found Zeck a bit annoying and always heard it as "big ass." The fight was Shredder was awesome, and I like how they managed to get two hits in on him. The first was a result of teamwork, and the last because he was distracted by Karai, which I thought was a nice way to show how much he's focused on getting her back, to the point where he'd let down his defences. Not that he deserves her in any way, but I'd rather that than him be a typical, uncaring villain.

I assumed the turtles figured they'd bring Karai back to the new lair, and then unmutate her or let April try her mind powers. I don't mind how she was left behind even though she has a way to help Karai. The turtles had their hands full as it was. April was out of her league and would've been in unnecessary danger. Leo made the right call.

I don't think they showed any proof of the actual time frame, though I recall the Turtles figuring out/deciding that time works differently there than it does on Earth. Just have to trust Mikey on that one I guess.

Leatherhead had also been there a lot longer (years?) and came back noticeably aged. As well as Mikey having had time to figure out a lot of survival stuff there. (Edit: That would have been weird if Mikey came back clearly older than his brothers. o.O Though I guess he'd now be some months older than he used to be?)

As for the mental state of mutated people... Maybe some of Splinter's meditation is partly focused on also keeping him mentally grounded in his humanity and resisting becoming all rat? Maybe it will help Karai control the shape shifting.

But April really doesn't have a connection or bond to Karai at all, not like the bond she formed with Splinter. He acts like a father to her, worrying about her like he would his own sons. Some of Splinter's memories included his time with April. I doubt it would've worked all that well if April had tried to mentally link her mind with Karai's. I think Splinter himself or Leo would've worked best for this since she has the strongest bond with those two. Well, that's what I personally think anyway...

I think the only way it would "work" with Mikey naming them would be like this:

Mikey: Oh no, Bebop and Rocksteady!

Raph: What? Why?

Mikey: I dunno... It just feels right, ya know?

What if Bebop and Rocksteady were characters on Crognard and Mikey names Steranko and Zeck after them.

I can see Shredder naming them because they're his "property" now and the mutation was a punishment. He calls Bradford and Xever by their names because he didn't mutate them and they weren't being punished.

Bebop and Rocksteady being named by Shredder makes sense. He's likely to keep a close eye over them.

Do you reallllllly see Shredder coming up with the names "Bebop" and "Rocksteady?"

I don't know about you but Shredder doesn't seem like the creative type to me.

I personally couldn't see this happening. He technically "owns" Xever and he still calls him "Xever".

It would be weird. I just couldn't imagine those names coming out of his mouth. Even in the OT Shredder didn't name them. Those were their gang names from the start.

I bet Mikey will name them.

Shredder naming them Bebop and Rocksteady would make no sense.

Of course, it won't make sense when Mikey does it either.

For that matter, this Shredder looks like music of any sort probably angers him. Let alone use retro music themed names.

Not sure how it could be anyone else but Mikey. (Or one or more of the others..? Eh..) Interested in seeing how that happens, hard enough so speculate on, must have taken some definite thought by the writing team.

It makes slightly more sense for Mikey to name them than for Shredder to, at least to me. Mikey displays a clear interest in music, and he seems like the type to listen to a little bit of everything (except classical, apparently ). He doesn't necessarily have to name the both of them at the exact same point in the episode, and it might be better if he didn't. But I could see him listening to Donnie's music player (who's name is escaping me at the moment) while spying on Zeck, and thinking, "Your mannerisms remind me of this type of music, so I shall call you Beebop," and later overhear someone make an off-handed comment about Sterenko having rock-steady aim, causing him to dub the guy Rocksteady.

OH OH OH OH OH!!!! PLOT BUNNY GOING HIPPITY HOP!!!!

Ok, in connection to that, let's say that Leo comes up with the idea of April using her powers to connect to Karai the way she did with Splinter. If it worked on him, it'd work on her, right? Seems logical!

But ssjup is right; April doesn't have the same bond with Karai that she does with Splinter, so everyone else (especially Donnie) finds it a bit iffy. Well, Casey's all for it because he thinks April can pretty much do anything she "sets her mind to." *ba dum, tiss*

So, April confronts Karai and tries to do her mind power thing with her, but just as she's slowly getting through to her, either the Kraang or the Foot or someone shows up and startles Karai, making her lash out and bites April on the shoulder. Donnie goes to her first and, even though she's still alive, is beyond enraged and attacks Karai. Karai slithers away with Donnie on her trail, but Donnie is stopped by Leo. Fortunately, Donnie had made some anti-venom serum in case this were to happen and they were able to administer it to April in time. Donnie, however, is still furious and starts lashing out at Leo saying how it was his fault he put April in danger. Not only that, but he refuses to make retromutagen for her. Leo fires back by saying he's just trying to help Splinter get his daughter back, but Donnie accuses him of just wanting to be with Karai. They get into a huge argument about which girl is more important and Leo finally says how Donnie is wasting his time on April and how she'd never want to be with him when she has a guy like Casey.

This is when I would have Donnie and Leo actually FIGHT, making Raph and Mikey split them up. Donnie is fed up and needs to be alone, which would eventually lead to the kidnapping of Donnie plot I had.

......too harsh? I know a lot of you guys are saying how Donnie would never act that cruel, but haven't you ever said or done things in the heat of the moment before? I've been told I'm a very sweet, loving person and even I've been a downright bitch at times. Just saying....

Here's my problem with the whole naming of Bebop & Rocksteady thing:

Shredder naming them himself makes sense, I agree with that completely. But why should he name them "Bebop" & "Rocksteady"? How will he even come to that decision? In the 80s show it was okay because that show was kooky and tongue-in-cheek on purpose. This show is meant to be a little more serious - so the names "Bebop" & "Rocksteady" would sound a little silly, don't you think?

I'm guessing it will be Mikey who names them, since he's named almost every other villain the show has so far. How he'll come up with their names is anyone's guess though - it's Mikey.

But Shredder didn't name them in the OT. Bebop and Rocksteady had those names (their street/gang names) prior to their mutations. The only mutants in the OT Shredder named were the Punk Frogs.

i really liked this episode.

i can't believe karai has another mouth!
then again that might explain why she's losing it. that being the mouth is where you would think her brain would be located. i keep thinking back to the karai figure their suppose to be releasing at some time, you know the one with human karais head on the body of her mutant self. well what if due to the formula that baxter had screwed with means that donatello can only stabilize her mutation leaving her like that. i wouldn't put it past em.

Semantics. He still chose to keep them as their names. My question still stands - what possible reason would the Nick Shredder have to give mutated Ivan and Zeck the names of Bebop & Rocksteady? It wouldn't make sense.

Yeah, her ability to switch between human and snake form is still a curious decision. It begs the question 'Why allow her to do that if you're just going to retromutate her eventually anyway?'

I'm wondering if maybe Baxter's 'accident' ended up making her alternate form permanent, retromutagen or not, and that they'll have to go cold turkey on bringing Karai's mind back, or maybe April's ability works after all. Although maybe it was just because they were afraid the snake form wouldn't be able to convey emotion enough, like how superhero films constantly have the hero taking their mask off so the actor's face can be seen.

Time will tell. Gods knows these hiatuses aren't helping.

That's what I thought too, I mean if they are dating from season 2 till now, the 'A Foot too Big' ending makes even less sense than ever before.
