The footage and the cast explodes with unapologetic feminism — something we haven’t seen in a comic book film before. Robbie adds that it was great to have Yan on board to bring a fresh female perspective to the narrative. “It felt right,” she added. “It was so much fun.”

And just because its a female-driven superhero pic primarily made for women and by women, Robbie insists that “feminism isn’t just for the ladies”. She assures, “Dudes can be feminist too!”

Most of people who loudly proclaim themselves to be "male feminists" are either losers who want to get some pussy for good boy behavior or perverts. On the other hand, if normal people won't watch this trainwreck, at least those groups might get interested.

"Fresh female perspective", huh? We've seen this kind of thing with Ghostbusters'16 and with Charlie Angels recently. Didn't work out well.

Harley canary and huntress are not f list characters. Huntress is in batman comics a lot and was a member of the justice league and the birds of prey.

Canary is/was green arrows girlfriend/wife member of the justice league and birds of prey member. Harley is super popular too just over saturated.

Also the 3 of them have been featured in many cartoons and 2 of them were in Arrow

I can't speak for everyone, but speaking for myself, it's not that this film is starring an all female cast, or that it's aiming at female audiences.

But you could do all of that, AND STILL BE TRUE TO THE COMICS AND THE CHARACTERS.

You could have an all-female cast, appealing to female audiences and male audiences alike, by making a Gotham City Sirens movie starring Harley, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. Or you could make an ACCURATE Birds of Prey movie starring Barbara Gordon, Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and sure, throw in Harley Quinn, too.

THIS film, though? THIS film is garbage.

It comes from a dishonest place. It's like they're admitting without saying: "OK, we'll level with you. We know audiences won't follow this brand new ____ (insert race thing and/or LGBTQ thing) character on its own right, so we have to override an existing character and try to poach that character's followers."

Why not just make a really cool ____ (insert race thing and/or LGBTQ thing) new character and put all of your effort into it? If it fails it fails. Let it succeed or fail on its own graces, not on the back of some other pre-existing character's legacy.
