The Rock Confirmed To Play Black Adam In DC's "SHAZAM" Movie

Kinda sad to hear that Shazam might be DOA but really not liking the Black Adam in MoS2 rumour. Like Andrew says it just shows WB's continued lack of faith in Superman to carry his own film. The first MoS2 morphed BvS (sorry, always was BvS if we go with the official story) now the next MoS2 might be morphing into the Black Adam prequel.

I like the a Rock, I love Black Adam. Even before Shazam was rumoured to be DOA they announced a Black Adam movie so if this has anything to do with the Rock's contract surely they could just lead with his solo and spin Shazam out of that or just add a Black Adam sequel in there or JL2. Just let Superman have his own movie with his own villains.

I guess that's not the worst thing ever. Though Man of Steel 2 really ought to have an actual Superman villain in it. i.e., Brainiac or something. Black Adam isn't going to be terribly different from General Zod.

The thinking is probably, "let's use Man of Steel 2 to springboard the Black Adam movie, and the Shazam movie later on, and make the Rock really happy," and not on "Let's make a really great Man of Steel sequel." Which is a shame.

So freaking stupid.

Black Adam is Shazam's archnemesis, why have his first appearance be in a Superman movie before Billy 's introduction?

I hope they do Hawkman better in this movie than Legends. the guy who played him in legends was such a bore.

Despite the mangled origin story (stories, more aptly), Hawkman has a very unique and interesting look to go along with his general backstory (the rough version is awesome, it's when the whole thing gets bogged down with too many details and retcons that it all falls apart). Despite not really being a huge fan of his books, I always like it when he shows up. He carries this air of, "Oh, NOW it's f*cking ON" about him whenever he shows up, and I enjoy that.

His personality is generally very unlikeable, so I can see why they might be hesitant to showcase him in a movie since the Good Guys have to be "nice" or else people whine, but he's an interesting character and I'd love to see him in a movie.

Ideally it would be some kind of "Hawkworld" movie, though. Unlike some characters, Hawkman really would need his first movie appearance to be a soup-to-nuts origin story, because even in comics his story is a mess that nobody can make sense of. So we would really need to be told, A-to-Z, what the deal is with this particular version. Is he the Ancient Egyptian Hawk-God guy, or the Thanagarian Space Cop guy? It kind of makes a lot of difference.

I don't really think they'd take a swing at Hawkman any time soon, though. Aside from his screwy origin(s), Hawkman is a far, far-right Conservative and that's one of the most essential pieces of his character. I don't see anyone in Hollywood racing to put that kind of character on display in a heroic role, and if you change it, or even downplay it, you change who Katar/Carter is as a fundamental part of his being. It would be an interesting contrast, for sure, but I don't know if we're there yet.

I'd be down for it, though. Hawkman is a very interesting character when done right.

I love the JSA but I have no idea how they'd actually make it work as a movie, given the general way WB operates. I kinda feel like the entire concept only works best as a WWII period piece since that's what it was created as in the first place, but for one thing, WB already did Wonder Woman (WWI), and for another they specifically avoided the WWII setting because the Captain America movie already did it, which was a dumb decision but apparently those things matter.

I don't know. I really like the characters and everything but a modern-day JSA always feels just a little bit redundant, and I'm not sure they'd want to "risk" making it a period piece. I'd have to know more about their general plans before I got emotionally invested.

Ahhhhh, who am I kidding? It's WB, they'll never get around to making this. Rock's already gonna be 87 years old by the time Black Adam comes out, and 104 by the time he fights Captain Marvel (that's his f*cking name, don't @ me).
