If it weren’t for remakes and sequels, they’d be making rip-offs. I’m OK either way.

I think the only successful reboot in recent memory is the new Planet of the Apes movies, which is surprising because the other one they made back in 2000 or so sucked too.
Besides Star Wars Episode 7, but that had to be a success given the prequels. |

Crystal Skull was...average, I guess.
It was worse, than previous three movies, but not exactly a horrible monstrosity. Also, never understood major hatred that some people had for this movie because of aliens. So, magic and immortal knights and A-OK, but aliens are NO-NO, in the Jones'verse? Like, really? P.S. I liked Terminator 5. It was fun action movie, as brainless as they come, but it was more entertaining that T3 and especially, T4. |

You have a point, we've seen dozens and dozens of reboots over the last 15 years but only a few have been successful. You're missing many other successful ones like Jurassic World, Mad Max among others but I do think they're the minority. Crystal Skull could be counted a successful since it did well at the Box Office and most of the criticism was only on the internet.

Dredd is another prime example of a reboot in recent memory done right, even if it did fail to spawn a franchise. That wasn't the movie's fault though.

I'd have written 80s and 90s. There's some debate about this I understand, but when you're talking about dates you don't need an apostrophe.

What about the Star Trek reboot? It was loved by critics, but hardcore Star Trek fans dislike it because of how much it altered the franchise.

Never seen them. In fact I have never seen a single episode of Star Trek or any of the films.

It's not even up for debate. TFA was a huge rehash of stuff done before. That's, like, all it was.
