I don't think anyone is looking for a "panel by panel" adaptation, and some liberty to suit a movie is fine. But essentially many of these stories that are successful have the story beats that define it. So basically, yes you want the story beats the same as the source material but filled in with unique character moments that are license of the actors and film makers. Without that is actually where these movies go wrong. But that's a very fine observation. Like I said, most meat puppets just sit there and watch this stuff either in enjoyment or disdain. I do it too. But when there's a key story being adapted then adapt it - don't slap a familiar name on it and lose site, you know? |

If anything I've heard that movie was praised, while a lot of people criticized Civil War from comic books. |

The comic stories are used for light inspiration and/or homage and that's a-okay with me. Like Prophet, I made peace with this not being the Marvel comic universe or a direct replica of it. If I want the comic version of Civil War, well, I'll read the comic. I can understand how someone would be disappointed though, sure. Maybe you see the name Civil War and it feels like a promise that you will see Peter reveal himself, Cap die, etc. I'd never want that though. Use the strengths of the medium you are working within. Play off the back story you have set up, not the backstory the comics set up, play to the strengths of your actors, and surprise me. There is also a side of me that is just tired of people complaining about something being different from the source material. Sometimes I get it, but it often just sounds like whining to whine, to me. Not saying that’s always the case - sometimes material strays so far that it becomes unrecognizable. So for sure the Willem Dafoe Green Goblin is for sure in this? I wonder how that's going to be explained. I can imagine how they bring in the Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 since he sort of just goes underwater and vanishes, meaning Doctor Strange could "pluck" him inadvertently from near death... but Green Goblin? He was impaled and visibly killed, with his dead body carted around and all.

They'll just have him plucked out of that timeline in the moment before the glider hits him, most likely.
As for the repercussions of that - it would automatically mean that nothing we saw happen in those movies from that moment forward could possibly have happened, including Doc Ock in Part II, just for starters - well... in case you haven't noticed, the MCU as a rule would prefer that you not think about things so deeply. "Repercussions? Broken timelines? Dude, it's just a movie about guys in tights shooting lasers at each other, just take things at face value and try not to think. Like, at all." They'll do the same thing with Dock Ock... they'll just yank him out of the timeline right before he "died" in Spider-Man 2... even though if Goblin doesn't actually die in Spider-Man 1, the events of Spider-Man 2 probably couldn't have happened anyway. But hey... "Just be glad you're seeing them again, don't think about How/Why." And that's exactly why I don't like those movies despite everyone saying I'm supposed to. They just plain don't think this stuff through and furthermore actually scold you the viewer for trying to. Can't help it, I'm not a passive viewer, and I think of things like this.

That concept art of Norman would suggest he's older... but Alfred Molina was going around saying that his Doctor Octopus is fresh from the ending of Spider-Man 2, implying no aging.

Did anybody watch Loki? I assume there's gonna be at least SOME mention of "variants" of these characters, having gone through almost exactly the same thing as what we saw in the previous Spider-Man franchises. I mean cuz yeah, otherwise how does any of this make sense? It's Sony so who knows, maybe it doesn't and Kevin Feige is just trying to patch things up the best he can In any case, I wish the second fvcking trailer would hurry up and drop! We are a month and a half out from this movie being released

I'm mostly curious as to how they are going to do this Universe blending thing and have it all make sense. Even with the Morbius trailer and Keaton's Vulture in that......

Also it looks like GG in his full SM1 getup, Goblin helmet and all, not just that stripped down version from the concept art.
