Dragonball AF Manga

http://blog.livedoor.jp/toyble/

Some very talented Japanese artists have put together a fan manga of cult Japanese DB myth "Dragonball AF"

Can't understand a lick of Japanese, but the visuals are stunning. I know DBAF will probably never exist, but given how many times they can create all new anime intros for the games, I don't see the point in prolonging fresh material. Japan of course, don't really keep shows going unless the writers want to do more for money or for their own storylines...

Actually , i've heard the story in AF is pretty much different than your average dragonball, and that is a bad thing i think.

GT was a bad thing too. AF actually has a better story.

I think everything with adult Son Goku was awful. GT was a poor attempt to re-create the original charm but it failed, of course.

Agreeing on all counts.

Is Af a doujin manga or something? One of those ones fans write?

I like how they can actually write and publish copywrited works over there (there are a million different regulations on those things though). I recall a report on a fake Doraemon ending that sounded really well done. Basically Doraemon breaks down, and Nobita works hard and becomes a robot programmer and reboots his friend.

Yes, but it's much bigger than that. AF is DB's greatest urban legend. Complete fanfiction passed off as "fact" in several hoax magazines years ago. The thing is, the concept was so good and the ideas so appealing, fans bought it as legit, and fans in on the myth continue to promote it with mangas like this (beats countless DBZ Hentai Mangas too, which half the copywrited fan doujinshi market is made up of)

AF has several arcs, the most well known of which involves Goku, during his journey in space after surviving the destruction of Namek, lands on an inhabited world and is seduced by an alien who, under her spell, he impregnates, creating a bastard child who later attempts to conquer the Earth. Goku turns SSJ level 5 in the ever persistent fan-art, and characters like Pan turn Super-Saijen when they did'nt in GT.

Utter fanfiction, but that one has always stuck

There's a guy on the forums at http://www.daizex.com/ who translates the pagesinot English as they come out. Anyone with some Japanes 101-102 experience who generally knows how Dragonball works can understand some of it but the deeper plot is still a mystery if you don't have any skill beyond that.

The story's pretty good, though, so if you want to check it out I suggest heading to the DaizEX forums and asking about it.
