Michael Crichton

Any fans of this awesome author? If so, share some insight and some favorite books, not a fan but wondering about him??
He's a great political writer, puts whatever's going on in a story:
State of Fear - Global Warming
Jurassic Park - Cloning
Lost World - Animal Behavior/Society
Andromeda Strain - Viruses/Bacteria
Prey - Nanotechnology
Congo - Primate Studies
Terminal Man - Brain Surgery
Next - Random sortments (can't pinpoint how many)
Disclosure - Sexual Harassment

and many more:
He even directed "ER"

He doesn't believe in global warming.

He also directed Runaway, with Tom Selleck.

He sucks.

Read these and loved them all. I'm not really a Crichton fan parsee as much as I'm a fan of these 4 specific books.

I love all things Jurassic Park, so both of those books are big favorites of mine, too. I've also read Prey, which was pretty good, although a little strange toward the end. I'm interested in checking out more by him, though.

Jurassic Park is one of my favorite books of all time. And the book was far more gorier than the movie was.
Spoiler:
Do you all remember exactly what happened to Dennis Nedry? Did you all recall how Ian Malcolm and John Hammond both died in the book, and that the compy's were part of this story as opposed to the sequel.

But yeah, I like reading Michael Crichton's works. Not only do you read a great story, you learn some interesting theories and aspects at the same time!

That is so true. JP is a good example. I wonder if Crichton was the one who came up with the DNA encased in amber tree sap idea. He really writes in a way where the reader genuinely believes it could happen.

Yep. And JP is the first time I saw dinosaurs being portrayed as upright walking, very warm blooded creatures and not the slow lumbering lizards they all once thought was concrete belief. I would later learn that real paleontologist Jack Horner was one of the original scientists to think outside the box with dinosaurs. Of course, everything is up for debate, seeing there is no hard as wood proof of what the dinosaurs were truly like. But it is interesting to note that when a fossil is unearthed, the skeletion has a resting position similar to that of birds who die.

The world of dinosaurs is something I find absolutely electrifying. Here is an entirely new species, whose discovery has had the whole world re-question it's beliefs and understanding of the world. And after all this time, we really still aren't sure how those majestic animals functioned, or how the world was so long ago!

I've always been a big dino buff. JP was a can't miss idea. Cmon, who doesn't love dinosaurs. It was a success the minute Crichton decided to write it. He's very good at what he does. And IMO, he does not suck.

Jurassic Park was my favourite book when I was twelve. Apart from that I've never read any of his work.

Timeline always peaked my interest though I haven't read it. The plot sounds real interesting. Anyone here read that one yet? Is it any good? I'd also like to watch the movie, but read the novel first.

I thought Congo was pretty good. But JP is my favorite, and in my opinion, his best book. I thought it was a really great idea on how he got the dinosaurs back into our lifetime without resorting to some time travel or Journey to the Centet of the Earth sort of deal.

And the movie is one of my favorites too. To this day, whenever I hear thunder, I think of the T-Rex coming (so I got a wild imagination, so sue me!)

I had originally watched the movie before I read the book, and I think they are both great on their own ground. I am glad that the movie kept Ian Malcolm alive (even though I thought he was a bit of a snob in the book,) but I kind of liked Robert Muldoon, too, which lived in the book, but non the less, great book, great movie, great thoughts (I think it was JP that brought the idea of DNA cloning to the public's attention. It's always been around, but since JP, it's been far more well known) and the movie brought out revolutionary special effects.
