Shredder has a strange name, doesn't he?

It seems to me i've already asked about it. But Shredder's name- Oroku Saki... It is very strange. I read some book about China and Japan... The conclusion is that Saki- is a female name and only. And Oroku- it is not a japanese name at all. My good friend from Japan told me about it. May be he is wrong but i don't think he knows Japanese names worse than Eastman and Laird... Does anyone have any idea from where this name comes.... I'm so curious. May be somebody knows...

Ever considered that Eastman and Laird made up the name? Writers make up names for stories all the time.

hmmmm

Saki is an adaptation of sakki, which in ninjutsu traditions refers to the 'force of the killer'.

I don't know about Oroku.

The family names Hamato and Oroku were definatly made up, wheras Saki and Yoshi are common Japanese names.

It's Saki because the needed to have two similar names. IE Nagi, Saki.

Do their name order differ from the North American one?

Hamato Sanchi and Hamato Yoshi - I thought they had different last names and the same first names and wondered how they could be related but is the Japanese name relation based on the first name?

Yes, in Japan, and I think a few other countries, the family, surname, is listed first.

Random thought. But when Karpo put Nagi in front of Saki right after each other... Nagi+Saki= Nagasaki.
Yeah, its a completely random thought, but it sounded good at the time.

nice ideas

wow! Nagasaki! i could never imagine that. But sakki fr om ninjatsu sounds much better. I don't know about Nagi but do you think it is normal to name a ninja man with a female's name? Saki means he is a girl
by the way Hamado Youji- is a common japanese name. that's right.
So guys, you've already seen 2 episodes. what can you say? Did turtles become more serious and courageous? It seems to me their ninja moves became much better.

i dunno... very interesting.

in martial arts terminology, Nagi seems to be an adaptation of nage which refers to throwing techniques, and Saki seems to be an adaptation of sakki which refers to the 'force of the killer'.

it upsets me though

But it sounds weird that his name is Saki... Even if Oroku is his surname, Saki is a name for a woman. I told that many many times... Nagasaki or not nagasaki- it is awful to give a man a female's name.
I must find out everything. It is tha same if Raphael's name was Raphaella.

There are LOTS of names that work for both males and females. Many names started for just one gender, then crossed over to be unisex. It's not uncommon.

ahem

i still think eastman and laird created the 'saki' name as an adaptation of sakki.
