Same as it Never Was, question

Quick question. I have seen it debated at least once before but couldn't seem to find the thread.

Is Leonardo blind in the episode "Same as it Never Was?" He wore the black blinders. and at certain points throughout the episode he seemed to be acting like he could not see but at other times he could clearly see what he was doing?
Anything official on this?

They never say I always assumed he was. If I remember correctly he doesn't know it's Raph behind him till Raph says anything. I think he was doing the whole "blind swordsman" thing.

I haven't read many of the comics but If I remember right I think I was told Leo went blind. The conditions of Leo, Mikey, and Raph were based on what happened in the comics so I would have to guess he was blind.

Still my favorite episode of 2k3...paced a little fast, but still...great mood to it. Fast Forward should have been this world. Here's hoping that one of the season 3 releases uses this as inspiration for a cover...it's possible.

I loved this episode! it was really cool and when it first came out I watched several times. But as to the blind thing, I kinda thought that Raph was the one that was blind, or at least particially so since he was missing one of his eyes.

It really says a lot about Leo's other senses if he can fight so well without seeing his opponent. Not that hard to believe though considering the series we are talking about.
When I watch this ep I try and disect whether Leo can see or not and I am never 100% sure.

He is not blind. In the script he is simply referred to as "Scarred Leo" and there is no mention of him with any kind of vision impairment. I guess he just thought the shades looked cool or something.

interesting, then why couldnt we see his eyes behind the shades? i could be wrong, i'll check, but i think his eyes were shut. We shoulda been able to see a little eye.

Hmm, was there an actual reference to that, because I think I did too...It's a pretty natural and perfect fit if you ask me.

Thanks a lot 4kids! I had always wondered. I suppose the black lenses looked pretty sweet, I would wear em too.

Something just dawned on me as I re-watched SaiNW. The episode is set 30 years in the future of a time line where Donatello goes missing. Something occurred to me, does it actually refer to Donnie's vanishing when he and his brothers are attacked by Ultimate Draco? (I mean they are all whisked across time and space.) When else could Donatello have gone missing?

So as not to spoil the guessing game, I'll say it this way, what if SaiNW is a "What if Donnie never escaped Kirby's dimension?" episode? Hear me out. The Utroms are still on earth? Why? Could they have never returned via the transmat? Could Shredder have succeed in stoping them? Had Donatello not been there, who would have had the bright idea to psudeo-electrocute Tin Skin? If the Utroms never made it home, could Leo have been "drafted" as a Guardian? There are things that might not fit, like Karai, but when she references Donatello it isn't like she'd ever met him. What do you think of my hair-brained theory?

Oh I definately get it. Seems feasible too, for the most part.

The thing about time travel is... it's confusing to explain. For example if Don never came back from Kirby's world, how could he have met draco and been sent to the future... wait... he could have met draco and then been sent back into time, and then into the future...or... um... ahhh... my head hurts

Well, strike that idea, I forgot about the pivotal role the Tunneler plays, and it wasn't created until after Donatello met Kirby.

Oh yeah its a good time. It's portrayed completely different in different movies. Like back to the future vs. the butterfly effect. two completely different time travel theories

Well, it's any interesting theory, a little difficult to get, but then again yes time-travel is very difficult to understand. I still think that the future does have to do with UD's intervention, since the mear fact that time he was in was thirty years later automatically means he's missed them all and couldn't be found while all the others managed to get back.

That Leonardo being blind thing, yeah I thought that wasn't the case, the first time I saw him with the shades the thought occured but I doubted it, the way he moved and looked around definitely didn't fit a blind person's profile.

I thought Michelangelo mentioned at the begin of the episode Donny disappeared after Ultimate-Drako appeared?

He's not specific. he just mentions that Donnie's been missing for 30 years. Heck, if I remember right, Don never mentions Ultimate Drako. But like I said the whole theory is junk because of the role of the Tunneler.
