Shredder costume

I am making a Shredder costume for a convention coming up in a couple weeks. I want your suggestions on how to add the blades and spikes to the costume. I'm going to be using cardboard to make the blades and then put them on shoulder pads. So any tips. BTW it is based on ot shredder.
