Colored weapons before the new toon?

You know how the turtles weapon's grip tape are colored? Well, it's been done before the new toon. Look at the box for I believe the third TMNT game for GB, and Leo's and Raph's grip tapes are red and blue. (Leo's kitana's tip is also gold, just like the cartoon. O.o)

If anyone has the box scanned, can you please post it?

One of the things I like about this new show is that they're weapons are colored. That seems so cool to me. But it gets annoying how they always twirl their weapons in their hands! ('cept Mikey because that's what you're supposed to do with nunchucks.

You spin me right round

Meh, twirling weapons is all the rage these days in cartoons. Look at the first episode of MOTU, they spend more time twirling weapons than fighting and talking COMBINED.....

lol you saw Poison? That's actually kinda cool. Was the whole band there? (the original band, that is, last I heard Blues Sareceno was playing Guitar for them)

I dunno, I guess it really started to bother me, when Casey started to twirl his wepons... and they were baseball bats... you don't twirl baseball bats...

None other than Bret, Bobby, CiCi and Rikki. It was a really great show actually. Get this: Faster Pussycat, Winger, and Cinderella were the opening acts!

Actually, the only part about the color coded weapons is Don's bo wrapping... For some reason, that irks me... Also, I choose to believe that Casey twirling the bats was to make fun of all of the other twirling... Other wise I begin to question, and questioning never ends well... Monkeys.

I'm pretty sure Rez was just joking with you, WWEFreakazoid. If it really bothers you, please PM him about it rather than starting an argument on the forums. If there are still problems, then please PM Krang or one of the mods.

Not necessarily. Traditionally, nunchaku are used as a small whip, and not carried in pairs. You use both hands for one nunchaku, holding one end in each hand. Strikes are done by swinging one end outward, then catching it with your free hand. Typically the swings go around the user's body, ending with the nunchaku held in a different position around said body than it started. Combinations can be formed, and appear to flow beautifully when done by one who knows what he/she is doing.

Alternatively, strikes and blocks can be done without swinging, where you use one or both handles and hit like you would with a club. Joint locks and chokes are also possible, via "pinching" a wrist or neck between the two handles at the rope end. The handles can also be held against the forearm, to protect the arm and offer a better block, much like sai and tonfa/batons are used. They CAN be twirled, and perhaps it builds momentum, but it's generally seen as impractical, I think.

By which I hint at, sai can be used with the blades against the forearm, the handle held out supported by the user's hand. You then punch with the butt of the handle, block with the blade-augmented-forearm, or you can flip the sai out to strike with the blade and quickly flip it back in. The strike is more of a bludgeon than a cut or thrust, as sai aren't really bladed in the obvious sense of the word. They're more like a spike.

Which is not to say there aren't bladed variations, but I'm talking tradition, and Raphael generally has the 'spike' type of sai.

-Alan, now I'll shut up before I rant about katanas not being paird weapons, either. :) Hope nobody's upset at this, I'm just speaking of what little I've studied. The twirling doesn't really bother me in the show, as far as the turtles are concerned. They're teenagers; teenagers do useless flashy things. I guess it's kind of odd for Leonardo or Donatello, as they're generally more mature than their brothers, but who knows? Maybe they'll develop as the show goes on. I hope so. Character development is always good.
