Mirage Universe Anthology / Compendium / Source Book Thing

Hey Gang,

With all the crazy (exciting!) news coming out of the left coast this week, it got me thinking...

have we heard anything about the "Mirage Universe Source Book" that was talked about a good, long while ago?

Edited by Steve Murphy, written by Jake Black?

Something... like... that?

Has the project just slipped too far under the radar to be remembered?

Anyone know anything cool? About this, or anything at all?

Last I heard, it was still in production. I think Jones is working on it along with Murphy and Black, no?

It keeps getting delayed, sadly. This is the #1 item I'm looking forward to this year directly from Mirage.

Cool. Thanks for the update, Ninjinister.

I wasn't aware of Tristan's involvement in it. Happy for him .

You know, in an ideal world, this "Source Book" would drop the same week as the new Vol 1 anthology. It breaks my heart, everytime a collected book is released one week, and like, a single issue of Tales comes out the very next week.

It just seems to me that maybe Mirage is shooting itself in the foot a bit when they do that. Because wouldn't TWO new products, out on shelves the same week, garner MORE shopper's eyeballs then just one, and then (a week or two later), another one?

I dunno. Poor Dan . With all it seems he has to do, my heart truly goes out to the man.

Jake hasn't mentioned working on it but he has hinted recently that he's gonna be doing SOMETHING TMNT related soon. But right now he's mostly focusing on getting healthy and the other projects he's doing for DC and other companies.

Just to clarify, as much as I'd like to pick up the work on the Universe book, I haven't heard anything about the project in a LONG time. The TMNT work Jake is referring to is a Tale for next year's short run which I think he and Murph are working on together. I believe Jim and Dan are writing the other four stories.

Fixed that for you, my friend. You're welcome.

Tristan, you said "for next year's short run" in regards to Tales. Is Tales just going to run for a half-year in 2010? Jake and Murph Story + 4 more stories by Jim and Dan = 5 issues.

That would take us up to, what? May, 2010? The 26-year anniversary of the very first issue, yeah?

Or is this just, like, some weird Australian method of counting that you're on?

That's very sweet of you to think, Dan.

But honestly, apart from sending Dan a quick note telling him how much I loved Tales #55, a letter I asked Dan to forward to Mr. Larid for possible inclusion in the next ish of TMNT Vol. 4, and the general grief I give Tristan ... I really have no formal "connections" to the Turtle world anymore.

Hey, would you look at this? Mister "No Connections" has a bit of news to share! Word came to me today from Jake Black himself.

And thus I quote, from the great book of Jake:

"It is coming out in November. Here's a link for it on Barnes and Noble. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Mir...1949727/?itm=3

"Steve Murphy and I wrote it, and the Mirage crew have done the illustrations. Peter did the cover. I think the delay was to prolong the 25th Anniversary celebrations through the end of the year.
"

How cool is that? Pretty dang cool, if you ask me (although you didn't, really).

WT

PS - thank you, gobo .

PPS - NO thanks for you, Stephan!

Sussed out some info, did ya? I had e-mailed Dan yesterday with the question and still have yet to hear back.

Trist', I could have sworn you were working on it. Maybe I'm losing my marbles.

I can't believe it, Ninjinister! I feel like the April O'Neil of the turtle world.

Oh, wait...

Well, at least the yellow jumpsuit I'm wearing finally makes sense !

The Mirage guys were flying back to Mass. today (Monday), so the soonest you could hear back from Dan would be tomorrow (if he's working tomorrow).

gobo, how DO you pronounce it correctly? I've always wondered.

I figured "Burr-jer," but that is probably wrong.

HELP ME, OBI-PRONOUNCE-O GOBO! YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE!
