What's The Best First Encounter With The Shredder?

Which TMNT show has the best first encounter between the turtles and Shredder The 2003 show, or the new Nickelodeon show? IMO the nickelodeon show has the better first encounter, with the turtles actually losing. Also, Shredder seems to be much more evil and threatening in the Nick show. I'm not counting 1989 or the movies, simply because I wanted to know if everyone like 2k3 or 2k12 better.

I'm gonna have to go with the 2k3 series encounter. It was a lot more fittingly dramatic.

Fun fact: The Nick fight with Shredder was only 4 minutes of an episode.

The 4kids version was the full second part of, "Shredder Strikes Back."

I feel like the Nick encounter was the more intense encounter; I really felt like the Turtles lives' were at stake and (probably due to the subtleties of CG) could see the fear and frustration wash over them.

The inclusion of scratches and bruising on all four of them was nice to drive home the fact that these 4 kids almost died, but due to Splinter's teachings, they didn't.

4Kids! Shredder stopped being badass to me when he turned out to be an Utrom's robot suit.

Krang is also a brain in a robot suit, yet nobody complained when he battled the Turtles. :p

2K12's a lot more action packed. And Shredder fought them on his own.

So that one got my vote.

Shredder mopped the floor with the Turtles and shrunk them whjen he first fought them proper in the OT (previous battles in the first season were mainly with Splinter. Pretty big statement (ha ha ha I made a funny)

Yeah, I'm going against orders and choosing the OT. What are you gonna do about it?

Definitely 2K12. I loved the 4Kids version, but the 2K12 had more action and drama. Plus, the Turtles got their shells handed to them and were more humbled by it, whereas in the 4Kids version, it was Splinter who ultimately defeated him (though not for long).

As far as this poll goes, I voted Nick.

But overall, Mirage #1 probably gets the nod. Then again, I think the first movie might get my vote. The fact that they were fighting for Splinter's life gave that fight a lot of emotional weight.

The buildup to The Gauntlet, starting with Shredder watching on a TV screen, followed by defeating some Foot Soldiers and then defeating Chris and Xever forcing Shredder to decide to take the Turtles themself is easily the best buildup ever leading to his first encounter with the Turtles. I honestly thought that the Turtles were about to be kidnapped and taken hostage somewhere, forcing Splinter/April to come to their rescue.

4kids was basically too predictable from Mirage #1, in which there is decent fighting, but his origin story immediately before the battle tones things down a bit, plus this Shredder seems to just try to hard being a bad guy.

If 1987 was an option, I would have ranked that second, since even though the Turtles only saw Shredder on a monitor, it caused him to tell his Foot to try to drown/trap the Turtles to death, and the escape from the Security Services building remains fun to watch, bringing with it the franchises' first Cowabunga.

Hey, you left out the 1987 series! I would've voted that. Come on, how can you top -

SHREDDER: "Don't deny your destiny. Join me!"
RAPHAEL: "Does the phrase go suck a lemon hold any meaning for ya?!"

The editing of 2k3 could be tightened a little, but probably this one. One of my favourite shots is Michelangelo barreling down the screen after being kicked. My favourite shot from 2012 is the close up of all the battle wounds. Both fights have a very strong comic book look which is pretty cool.

I won't vote because the 2012 encounter is so fresh in my mind, but I enjoyed all three first encounters. 2003 cartoon-wise I thought of the 1st Shredder encounter as my third favorite overall of the 157 installments. I was pleased with "The Gauntlet" more than any other episode aside from "New Friend,Old Enemy" despite my not liking Bradford becoming a dog-man.

Krang wasn't Shredder, nor an Oot, or truly a threat due to the tone of the old series; big difference.

Also, I'm not complaining; I prefer the Shredder to be human, or humanoid (the Trike Shredder artwork looked pretty sweet!).

2012 IMO. I barely remember how the 2k3 one went down to be honest.

Nick series I gave the 2003 a chance but it could not draw me in. And they totally messed up Shredder in that iteration as time went on.

I just watched the clip from "The Gauntlet." It's just so EPIC!

I remember the one from the 2k3 series. I was not happy with how it was done, especially with those weird ninja men that followed the turtles. The 2k12 encounter takes the cake. It was so well done. We got to see brothers showing love for one another when all seemed wrong, the fighting was top notch, and just the idea of making the turtles cocky right before the Shredder came was just brilliant.
