Boo hoo hoo. You'd think 10 new episodes straight should be enough to keep you guys from whining, but apparently not.

Season 1 is 26 episodes. Why the hell would you think the season is over?

It is a bit odd to have a rerun mid-season, but it's hardly unheard of or anything worth getting up in arms over.

Because they wanted to take a break. Relax already. The next new episode is next week, so you won't have to wait too long. It didn't matter to me because I watched WWE Saturday Morning Slam for the first time in a long time. It was nice.

For once, why don't you try paying attention to the rest of the board before you make another one of these kinds of threads...

The issue is that the new episode didn't air on schedule.

God forbid we expect TV channels to follow the age old model of showing a new episode at the same time each week. I can't be the only one who really hates the "You might get a new episode, you might not, let's see what the wheel of fortune says" model that Cartoon Network and Disney use for their shows.

tv stations have always broken up seasons of shows. mid-season re-runs are the rule, not the exception.

they air a chunk of eps at the beginning of the season (anywhere from august-sept to nov-dec) then break for the winter and come back in the spring. the times they come back are called sweeps. this is when a lot of series have the climaxes of their season storylines and because of this, advertisers spend more money on commercial time because they assume more people will watch. the end of the season comes around june-ish usually. then the summer re-runs start.

as of the past decade or so, a lot of channels are actually breaking their seasons into even smaller chunks, such as shows like breaking bad or walking dead, where they actually have what they call mid-season finales and premiers. this is kinda becoming the new standard with appointment tv, so the idea of a straight shot of new eps in a row is becoming even MORE antiquated.

honestly, i thought getting "Panic in the Sewers" immediately after "The Gauntlet" was awesome, because not only was it up in the air whether the air date was set or not, but also, because the way "The Gauntlet" ended on a cliff-hanger fit the mold of a perfect point for a break in new eps.

kinda sucks, but it means there's more new eps spread throughout the whole year.

EDIT: upon re-reading, i guess it's better to say that "The Gauntlet" didn't end on a cliff-hanger, so much as a call-to-arms/rallying point thats gonna set off the next part of the season.

Its still a relatively stupid practice that does more to promote inconsistent viewing habits than it does to prevent them. I dont care what exception there is to the rule, shows built around season long storyarches need new episodes to maintain momentum and interest in the season. If the x files aired a rerun 11 weeks in, especially after a "growth" episode, youd think the season was over and not bother tuning in next week because YOU JUST SAW THESE EPS.

Theres too much out there to be distracted by, for children and adults, to check in with tmnt to every saturday to see if theres a new show. Now, granted i have dvr, so it doesnt really matter, but i was disappointed there was nothing new this week AND am pretty sure this back and forth crap is what killed transformers animated.

It makes no sense for a weekly, episodic show to not air new content weekly in season.

So you expect there to be a new episode for 26 weeks straight.

That's called being "unrealistic".

well, thats how its been done since the mid-80's.

dunno, if you're just now noticing it or not, but this is how it always been.

it would be awesome for there to be 26 new eps in a row, but, yeah...thats unrealistic. actually making a tv show is a job just like any other. why would/should the producers/writers/actors/animators be forced to work a crazy intense schedule just because people "need" their tv?

EDIT:

also, considering the season consists of about 8-9 months out of the year, the way they're aired IS ALL in season.

maybe not all new, but then 26 eps isn't enough to fill that whole time period every week.

We've come a long way from the time (think OT) when only in the fall new episodes aired on Saturday Morning network cartoons/weekday syndication, followed by reruns throughout winter, spring, and summer since it was basically about gearing towards kids who could care less (though I would often watch one show in the fall, another in the winter, and another in the spring). These occassional reruns help to provide a nice break along with spreading out the season to not have these 9-month long breaks. Primetime once did the same thing a long time ago, but to satisfy advertisers, it helps to have more sporadic new episodes.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't get a new episode, but it gave me an excuse to have a TMNT marathon so I watched all the episodes with a few friends who've missed out, can't wait for the next episode though.

They shoulda kept going until at least episode 13 so it could have counted as a mid-season break.
