OT watchers, how shocked were you at how different Raph was in the movie?
To those who didn't know about the old comics how did u feel watching this new pissed off version of Ralph compared to the jokey cartoon version we fell in love with...I couldn't believe it myself personally and for some reason I liked it..

Can't really be 'new' when it's been his personality in the original comics.

Honestly, it had been so long since I watched the old cartoon that I forgot that Raph was a wise guy. It honestly never phased me since Raph was always a snapping, sarcastic turtle.

The weird thing is... no one seemed to care. We had human Foot Soldiers. Casey Jones right off the bat. Splinter was a pet rat. No Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady or Technodrome, and the Turtles (for the most part) fought for serious. And yet, we seemed to completely ignore these differences from the OT and loved the hell out of the movie just for the sake of the awesomeness of live-action turtles!

My childhood is a bit of a blur, but I don't remember ever really noticing the differences between the OT and the movies. I either didn't actually notice, or I enjoyed both enough to not care. More than likely a mixture of both, though I also enjoyed different takes on Batman back int he day, so who knows.

Honestly, Raph didn't stick out too much. As a 5 or 6 year old, I was shocked by how different and "grown up" the movie was compared to the cartoon. It was weird to me because things like Batman had cartoons and live action movies that were of a similar tone.
I still loved both versions of TMNT though. Still do. |

I'm not.
I'm actually more surprised Casey Jones was an important character.

All I noticed as a kid was real Ninja Turtles. Walking, talking Ninja Turtles in a movie.

When I first saw it I was too excited to actually be sitting in the theatre watching live action Turtles to care. I noticed the differences but they didn't bug me.

When I noticed that Casey Jones wasn't so crazy, Bebop and Rocksteady and Krang weren't present, and other significant OT elements weren't there, I kind of figured this was a different version of the Turtles even when I was a kid. I wasn't too bothered by it because there were many live animated films that didn't match up exactly to the cartoons around that time when I was kid (i.e. The Flintstones, Mario Bros., Muppet Babies (show) vs. previous muppet films).
It was a bit unusual though since it felt new and somewhat darker, but it wasn't bad or anything. So with Raphael being hot-tempered, it didn't bother me. I could see it being believable since Raphael in the OT did have his peeved moments. I just thought the movie took that quality to an extreme when I was a kid, that's all. |

It might surprise Cubey to know that not everyone has the time and money to go out and buy (and watch) every single DVD from every show they watched during their childhood. Some of us do, but we're the exception, not the rule.
