should there be a reason on why some mutants can talk?
I know mutagen is unpredictable but....would it ruin the mythos of TMNT if they came up reason like say their ancestor was a mutant during the dinosaur era but was beastly non self aware (like monsters we seen in the show) and had somehow sired descendants but those descendants regress back into normal animals but if those descendants get touch by a mutagen then those will get more positive results like gaining a higher intelligence and have less negative results like looking deformed, sick or case of the crazies.

There is no real reason. It's just whatever the Nick writers want.

Well having the ability to speak doesn't always mean intelligence. I mean Rockwell Monkey and Kirby bat are intelligent enough. Such as Kirby being able to recognize April as his daughter and his fatherly need to protect her. But they no longer have the function to speak.
There are theories about this this, some could say that haven't completely adjusted to their new forms just yet. But that doesn't explain how others such as Spiderbites, Pete the Pigeon, and Snakeweed, and leatherhead can talk and other mutations can't. The mutagen also futzes with your mind, not just your DNA so in some cases the Mutations don't even remember being human it seems It's pretty much a grab bag of what you get. So if there isn't a reason for the mutant to have an ability to talk, they don't. |

It just a thought. I would like this true because it would give towards a certain evolution mentality with certain mutants, and I really do want to know if this would personally ruin the show for you? Would this be as bad as the Midichlorians in Star Wars or Peter Parker in The Amazing Spiderman movie was genetically predestined to be Spiderman?

I don't really care either way if there is or isn't. My own assumptions (or headcanon, I guess?) suit me just fine. I figure it has to do with the intelligence & age of the creature/person as well as how much mutagen is used and whether or not it's stable. There are a lot of variables, so I've never really felt myself wondering why one turned out one way while another differed.

The ones that don't go crazy seem to be the ones that still have regular contact with people. Bradford, Xever, Splinter, and likely Tigerclaw (whenever he shows up.) Last edited by Metalwolf; 02-08-2014 at 08:36 AM. |

I feel it comes down to being able to make a good enough approximation of a human accent, paired with a brain that can be smart enough to make it possible. That's why some animal origin mutants can talk pretty fluently such as Slash and the Kraang, some sound pretty broken but understandable such as Snakeweed, and others can only make animal sounds. This also applies to human origin mutations (Splinter/The Turtles vs. Baxter the Fly/Dogpound). That's what's interesting about mutations in this franchise in that you never know what kind of voice will result from the various mutations.
