This is the first I've ever seen this, and seeing how its UK only, I doubt many know.

I wonder if the picture quality is any better, but knowing Lionsgate whose DVDs looked like VHS I doubt it.

Don't know if you noticed yet but that's a German release and as such is only available in German, as in, there's no English track on those.

I don't understand how it's non native language got the blu ray treatment first whereas English got none still...

Well, for the few reviews I saw it doesn't appear to have that HD Blu-Ray quality though...

There are English and German tracks on the regular DVDs, but dunno bout this.

I did some research on this and found out that this is a bogus set with very poor image quality. Basically, crappy feed of each episode burned onto blu ray discs generating in 4:3 dimension.
One would think, blu ray equals to 1080p or at the very least 720. These could be one of those unofficial releases, not sure.

Here's what some of the people who bought the item had to say about it. *(these were translated using Google translate from Amazon.de, so bare with it)

I have unfortunately noticed only after the purchase, unfortunately the Blu-ray contains only the German soundtrack (the DVD also has the English).

Sound else in order

A longtime fan of the Turtles. Have been waiting for this compilation, I'm happy that I the
Collection now compact home have, but I am disappointed by the reaction .....

They looked like VHS quality because they crammed WAY TOO many episodes on a lot of those discs.

The picture would have actually looked fairly decent simply by not putting 12+ episodes per disc.

As for this set, this is more than likely just the DVD masters thrown onto a Blu-Ray disc, which European releases can do, they can't do that over here in the US.

I think we just need to face the possibility that the original masters of Ninja Turtles no longer exist and were disposed of back when home video demand was not at a premium like today.

Even if they did have the original masters, I doubt they'd bother giving it a proper remaster for a Blu-ray release. Just stick to the DVDs.

Besides, sometimes when an older cartoon is remastered in HD the details and grain are sucked out and the end result is an abomination.

When a cartoon has grain removed, it directly because of the people remastering the set, not the remastering itself.

Everything can look great on Blu-Ray, if the people making the sets choose to just leave the HD scans as they are and not try to fiddle with them.

Too bad about the blurays, but the German DVD's are seriously better than we could ever probably hope for. The German DVD versions had a clean transfer and have 20% more resolution than the North American (NTSC format) releases. Just make sure you get the 5 disc set of season 1, and not the 3 disc set (there's more compression artifacts on the 3 disc set). Importing from Germany can be pricey though and takes time.

I've also been trying to find if Laser Disc versions of the show were released in PAL format (as they'd have more resolution than the American releases). I hope to make a digital rip of the Laser Disc releases to see how they compare.

Didn't season 1 receive a digital remaster for the 2004 release on DVD? No wonder it looks so sharp. I guess they decided not to give the same treatment for the rest of the show.

That looks kinda pretty as a still image, almost like a painting. But as a moving picture - yeah, I bet it looks terrible.

I don't know what the standards are in other countries, but Blu-ray is supposed to be used for quality enhancement and not so much for storage. Plus this is where I mentioned earlier this year on this board.
