FAQ for the Archie TMNT Comics

Seen something like this in one area of the Dreamwave fourms, and I thought it would be a good idea. A thread that covers all the general questions that come up regarding this comic series. Like a FAQ, as well as something that prevents previous discussions from being lost, and then repeated again later.

Thus, this thread is for all things regarding the Archie TMNT sieries, the mutanimals, and other characters from this (Ninjara, Slash, Cudley).

For questions regarding the series itself, the covers, and summaries, Dan Berger is also in the process of posting info on the Archie series at NinjaTurtles.com.

I love this series! I still mourn its untimely cancellation. Overall, I would consider this to be the most consistant TMNT series in terms of quality and story. It's not the "kiddie" TMNT book! Read it!

I own about 20 Archie books and they have some really good storys. I just don't like the inconstant quality of the art and the fact that there is a new mutant/man-animal in almost every book.

I think there is one issue where the artist switches halfway through. It didn't bother me though.. I think Jim Lawson was one of the artists of that issue. He did a little bit different kind of art style on Adventures than he did in the Mirage comics.

Yeah, once Allan takes over the art is fabulous.

Yeah, I liked the Allan issues with the Laird covers. Allan did some pretty cool covers too.. I have one, I think it's from one of the Sarnath issues. I think he also drew the TMNT 3 movie adaption. It'll be cool to see Allan's take on the Turtles today.

Allan is one of the contributors to the new "Tales of" , I think. So there you go! Now you can see his take on the Mirage TMNT. Lawson and Dooney have both worked on the Archie series, and Farley did some work for the Archie TMNT Universe source book. I think he did most of the profiles.
Archies' TMNT Adventures wasn't a bad read, I liked how they paralelled the kiddy toon and grew out of it's shadow to become something more and something better. I thought that was realy cool. Also, I thought it was decent of them to end it all with a three issue mini, similar to how they started...Even if it wasn't part of their regular TMNTAdventures continuity.

I know someone who said he wished the original cartoon was more like the Archie series, and I do as well!

Archie's "The Mutant Universe Source book?" It was actually three issues, and I think you can get them from Mirage's back issue catalog in the Adventures section. I think they have it. But If I'm wrong, my apologies..try Amazon or E bay .

Also, Ryan Brown, an artist from the original "Tales" series was a LONG time contributor in the Archie series. That's probably why the archie series was like the Old-toon done Mirage-style!

Eric Talbot also helped out with some covers. There is one of Candy at the Mutanimals' graves i think? Well anyway, it is inked by Talbot. It seems like most of the Mirage guys have gotten their hands in the Adventures comic at some point in time.

Also, I have always wondered this. Did Laird do the cover for TMNTA #9? (the first appearance of the Chameleon). Well the cover is a homage to Mirage's Raphael #1 cover, and if I remember correctly, I think it had Laird's signature on it. If it was by him, its one of the only times I saw him draw the Turtles "cartoony".

Thanks, Putrescent.. I think my favorite Laird covers were the ones he did with Eastman. But of his later ones, I like the one with Tattoo strangling Mike, hahh.
Elite5Raph, the Mutanimals died, but I don't exactly remember how. I think another team scouted them out and killed them on an island with lots of guns. This was done in back-up stories of TMNT Adventures, after the Mutanimals series was cancelled.
I think this info is true, but if I'm wrong, anyone feel free to correct me.

Nope, youre correct, MrP..

this happened while april, Splinter, Ninjara and the Turtles were dealing with the Animus war in Jerusalem. This was also when Michelangelo got blinded by the molotov cocktail...

He was only temporarily blinded, but it did make him vulnerable when their plane crashed in the ocean and he got picked up by the coast guard.

Nope, that's Dan Berger's art. He was pretty much solely responsible for the comic strip.
