Is Vol. 4 that bad?

I've read through the last threads about Vol. 4 and it seems like a lot of people aren't enjoying it or at least not as much as Vol. 2.
IMO the new books are a lot better than Vol. 2 because I just happen to like the new storys more. They are very complex and although they are kinda weird, they're not near as confusing as Jim Lawson's storys. It even has an advantage in comparison to Vol.1 since for the first time we get a TMNT book, that is done by one team.
Oh and btw, it would be nice if the discussion was only about the storys and not the art, we just had too many discussions about that.

Man, I have no problems with volume four at all. Pete's telling a good story, and Jim and Mike's art is working well. I say, let them finish the run before you start picking it apart. It often reminds me of the some of the things that were posted about Loeb over at the DC forums concerning "Hush" and "Superman/Batman". The story wasn't even wrapped up and some people just went nuts. Geeze..At least read the Whole thing. Then reflect on why or why not you like it.
So in short, I more or less echo your sentiments...Vol. Four is running on all cylinders man. But I degress, as a fan of the Ninja Turtles, I have enjoyed every comic series that has been thus far. These guys are some of my favorite charachters in all of comics. I've even nabbed most of the archie series and miniseries' that they did. They only time I was let down was when the mirage book went down for awhile, and then again when the image series was lain to rest. These guys put so much into what they do. That is something to respect man.

Re: Is Vol. 4 that bad?

Volume Four is great, Volume Two is fine in some areas, but pathetic in others, it's down to preference with that one.

I LOVE volume 4's Long-winding plot-line! Wish it wasn't so outer-space centric though. Great series all things considered.

It's good but too much is going on since the guys split up. I'm just pissed with this Raphael situation.

I'm still so amazed at how angered people can be at a temporary plot-arch.

Geez, it'll be really scary to see how people react when Pete starts to really mix things up for the characters.

Vol. 4 is great. The only thing that bothers me about it is that new plot points are constantly being added, but the older ones aren't resolved. I mean, this all has to building up to something right? And then what, what happens when all the current plots get resolved, is it the end or will they start on another story?

I'm not a fan at all, of Mirage Volume 4. Infact, I'm not a fan of the Mirage TMNT books as a whole. Volume 4 is definatly the worst of the canon stuff though. Unresolved storylines, bad dialogue, bad art, awful characterization. And the fact that they killed Splinter in such a lame and heartless way for a beloved classic character. That was just the final nail in the coffin. I only own 2 issues of Vol. 4, #10 and #11. The Splinter death and funeral pyre issues.

LOL

Guess you're just not used to Peter Laird's writing style.

you need to read more than two issues to get the idea of volume four. I love it. There are no stand alone issures. And plots have been solved and will be solved

hrmm

I can't see I quite agree with all of Laird's portrayals of the characters...

But as far as plotlines and storytelling goes, Laird has brought the series to an entirely new level. There is depth in the series now that I haven't seen since the days of City at War.

Now, if only he could work a bit more on character portrayal....

and, maybe, just maybe...

Draw an issue or two himself??

*wink wink nod nod*

How exactly does something that takes place in the future "contradict" something that took place in the past??

Is he referring to Volume Four or Three?

According to a lot of people, not just me. That's why it's considered an opinion. You like it, I think it's trash. If everyone agreed, this world would be pretty darn boring. If you're happy with TMNT Vol. 4, then that's peachy with me. But for me, I'd rather go and re-read the Archie series. Atleast it was good.

HOORAH

(I love MIRAGE Volume Four, but Archie is definatly better than Image and Volume 2, which itself is better than Image)

Volume 4.

"Taste" is a relative thing. Some people like mustard, and some like mayo. Doesn't necessarily mean one's better than the other.

I realize that's kind of a bad analogy (as art *is* actually better than other stuff), but...

And, according to a lot more people, its not. Big deal.

I said it before and I'll say it again: popularity does not confer legitimacy.

Oh, both were good. Volume 4 is just much better.

I love volume four from what Ive read of it. I dont have issue five yet becuase my comic book providor refuses to get me one so Im a bit stuck! I love the story though and I know most of the plot and I think it is amazing. The humans may be a bit deformed but its the quirks that mkae you love stuff! I think Volume four is great and I plan on getting the rest of the series and i plan on being delighted by it I havent read volume two or three and Ive only read a few Archies but this is a great melting pot in my opinion.
