April's belt pocket

Silly question: does anyone have any idea what's supposed to be in the little pocket on April's belt in the '87 cartoon? It's vaguely gun-holster-shaped, with it's odd little angle on the bottom, but it's CLEARLY not that, and I doubt it's a weapon of any kind (or she would have tried to use it on SOMEONE, during one of the many times she'd been threatened during the series run *LOL*).

Well, as a serious answer . . . the actual character model for April, and numerous screen-shots, AND one of the action figures, all portray it as a tape recorder with connected microphone. And is, for the record, in no way shaped as I described in my original question that you copy-pasted above.

So it wasn't even clever mockery.
