I'm wondering how anyone got to see it already. Is there that many professional reviewers here? I also highly doubt that such a number of people selected for prescreening would be at this very board. Or was it some alternative, sneaky method?

There were A LOT of press and other types of early screenings this last weekend. No reason for anyone to lie about seeing the movie.

I think I'll see it again, maybe repeat viewings will help it. Otherwise I thought it was a C. I've never been one to jump on the "it's new!" train. I bet if TMNT 2 comes out and it's better most of you giving this movie an A+ will start picking this movie apart and then talk about how awesome TMNT 2 is. Kind of like what everyone did with Spider-man when Spider-man 2 came out. Or the Harry Potter series when the sequels were better than the original.

I will be seeing the movie on Monday so I will post up my vote then.
Oo...very good thread *nods*
I'm going to be seeing it in about 2 or 3 weeks, but I know that I'm going to love it. It's Ninja Turtles for crying out loud! But I'll keep my vote to myself until I see it. I don't want to jump the gun like I did with a few other movies ;)

I didn't place a vote because I haven't seen it yet. And I wasn't mad at him. I asked him to expand on it. It seems odd to say it's the worst movie of the year when the year hasn't even passed yet.
they gave Donattello hardly any screen time, and they did what i thaught the would do the based it on raph and leo, but they opened the ending up for a 5th movie. but yeah the next one better be ****ing about donnie an mikey!!!

I agree on all fronts.
Although it wouldn't be a bad thing to have Koteas again, it wouldn't be the same without him PHYSICALLY being Casey. And he's getting old now.

1) Corey Feldman as Donatello
Get out.
I was disappointed by the lack of balance in their depictions, but not surprised. I guess it's something that I've at least partially come to make peace with. That being said, I hope more balance is exercised in a potential sequel. My only other gripe was that Casey was a little too benign and not the tough guy that we're all used to. Other than that, the film was outstanding.

Okay dudes and dudettes,
i just saw the first screening of the movie in my town, and thought it was awesome! My mom told me she heard a review this morning that this movie had bad theater timing because not many people would see it...she came to the movie with me and she disagreed with the reviewer. She said this (and i agree): If you are a fan of the teenage mutant ninja turtles, you're going to love the movie!
As for criticism, there were a few holes in the plot that another 30 minutes could have made it seem "fuller" - but the CGI of the movie really DOES "draw you into the story" like you are another character or turtle. Though, thinking more about it - it seemed that alot of the focus was on Raphael. NOT COMPLAINING ONE BIT ^_^!!! but did anybody else think this, that has seen the movie? Maybe it was just me, because i was so focused on his character and how he played hero "in both worlds" whether it was with his brothers or not...i also got the impression slightly that there was a bit of a Leo/April romance somewhere. Tell me if i am "off my sewer slider rocker", but that was just my impression. To those of you that haven't seen the movie, you may see it periodically through the movie when their characters interact and know where i got this idea/impression from.
Okay, i'm done! I don't want to "ruin" the movie anymore than i possibly have...i definately will see this movie again a few more times! Oh, and Raphie boy can lay on my apartment floor ANYTIME he wants ^_^ *sighs* Bye!

I came, I saw, me likey!!
I laughed, I chuckled, I groaned at Splinter's love for Gilmore Girls (is there a character named Cody in that show? ), I cheered at the Raph/Leo fight scene (which IMO was Leo's fault).

Leo triggered the fight yeah with his "I'm better than you" but I loved his telling Raph that he needed him after Raph gave him his new swords. By the end they both had new found respect for each other

Yeah, that Splinter scene was pretty great...and Mikey at the end when he finds Raph and Splinter!!!
One of my favorite lines was "is he LECTURING me?" right before Nightwatcher/Raph fights with Leo. I did agree it was Leo's fault, and now love that "smugness" scene when Raph yells at Leo even more!

Now do we really need to use spoiler tags here ? This is to talk about the movie anyway.... I think that people won't come here if they don't want spoilers..
So,
Good movie, but I wanted more. I won't see it again in the theaters, I'll ''wait'' to have it on dvd.
The animation was awsome, the overall plot was so-so, of course this is a kid movie so its not so bad. I saw the movie in french, and I was quite surprised to see all the original voice actors from the first movie, being back in this one. It was great. I dunno if the english voices are just as good, but I do hope so for you guys.
The fights were good, nice action, not enough weapons to my taste in most of them, kinda reminds me the Secret of the ooze, but still, it was entertaining.
Pretty good soundtrack, I enjoyed it. Fitted the movie just fine.
Something I really didn't liked was the fact that the Foot was useless to this movie. And karai was of no importance. Jeez, she was barely in the movie at all, this movie would have been just as good if the foot wasn't in it. I really would have liked to see them being something else than simple ''puppets'' of Winters.
The generals were ok. Classic bad guys turning against their boss.
The monsters were also ''ok''. The jersey devil was of course the best of them all. He's the only one that really made me laugh in this movie. Mikey had 1 or 2 moments too, but nothing great.
As for the main characters, they were for the most part how I thaught they would be. Casey looked like a teen really. He was no man in this movie, he was the clumbsy, not so funny and still to become a man kinda character. In fact, he was almost like the son of Casey Jones.
April was, well April... A bit like Casey, she looked like the daughter of April. Even if this is a kid movie, I would have appreciated these 2 to be more mature. They are supposed to be similar to the April and Casey we saw in the first movie... no ?
The turtles were the ones who seemed more mature. Raph fans are gonna love this movie. ALOT of raph action. He's the star here. Not a bad thing, but it did put Mikey and Don in the shadows a bit more.
Leo really changed here. I like the new Leo, took me some time to really get use to him, but in the end, he was great. A more open minded Leo is a good thing for the turtles.
Splinter was more like a father than a sensei now. I don't have alot to say on him that was already said or seen. He had some good screen time considering the kinda role he had.
So, Overall, I give this a 7/10. Not as good as I would liked it to be, but it was entertaining and the animation was very good. I know that I'm forgetting alot of things, but feel free to complete or state your opinion on my review.

I agree completely. I loved the movie, but as I was driving home I thought about how Donnie kind of got the shaft. It seemed like they were going to use him more in the beginning and then they just kind of left him and to a lesser extent Mikey (he got more jokes so it wasn't as obvious) in the dust.
They didn't even have him do anything technical really. The only "tech problem was solved by Casey.
That being said, I would want him to have a substantial role in a sequel.

I thought Casey's voice was spot on, personally.
As for Splinter, at first I thought he sounded drunk, as if he was slurring his words. But by the end of the film I loved his voice, the way he pronounces everything, I dunno what it was, I just really dug it. Mako rocks!! Plus, he doesn't really sound like an old dude handing out advice, he sounds like a master, a sensei, not afraid to give his pupils hell when they need it.

Obviously some spoilers:
Since we are on the discussion of Leo and Raph, I would like to mention how I enjoyed that I enjoyed difference from the Leo I'm used to.
It always seemed like Leo and Don were 2 turtles that didn't have any glaring weaknesses (none that I remember anyway). Raph was too emotional and Mikey doesn't take enough stuff seriously which can be their faults.
It always annoyed me when they made Raphael look bad for going against the group, but they never seemed to make Leo look bad.
That being said I liked to see Leo show an inability to lead when he first came back, and an arrogance about himself over his brothers during the fight.
Also I liked how the Leo vs. Raph fight ended. I expected the "winner" of their fight to be the other turtle.

If only this movie was 10 to 20 minutes longer, then I'm sure they could have fleshed out Donny and Mikey a little more.
Also, I don't agree on the next movie focusing strictly only the other 2 like this movie. Don't get me wrong, I love Don and Mike, but IMO, I think all 4 of them should be equally important in the movie. Of course it certainly wouldn't hurt to give Mikey and Donny more screen time to make up for this movie. It's just that I want it to be done better, instead of having 2 of them dominate the movie while the other 2 barely gets any good screen time or lines. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should always be about the 4 of them.

Just saw it, I got what I wanted after all: Every turtle got a fair chance to shine, 'cause they all kicked ass in battle, all four were in tip-top shape & their skills/acrobatics were all top notch and real fun to watch, and they all got a fair share of dialog too. The sci-fi/fantasy element was marvelous. Max Winters was fascinating. Splinter was humorous and pretty nice (though I still blame him for the family break-up in the first place). Casey was great, April was cool, and Karai was pretty good (though she didn't have that much to do). To tell you the truth, this movie was really not that dark at all, at least I didn't think it was, but everyone has their own personal measurement system.

I give the movie an A-/ B+. The prologue is too long, and the threat at times is too convoluted. Too many characters for an 85 minute film.
Fight scenes were incredible. Great dialogue between the turtles. Character development, while present, is minimal; nevertheless, the dynamic between the characters is always genuine and never feels forced; every character has a distinct personality. Thanks to good dialogue and a consistent cast of personalities, if you read a quote from the film, you would have a relatively easy time figuring out who said it. Yes, even without the actors voice.
I thought the Foot Clan fit in fine. They served their purpose of acknowledging the turtles history, giving us some cool fight clips, and providing the audience with much fodder for sequel speculation.
In my opinion, this is the first movie in 17 years that is worthy of the franchise. I can only pray to God, Allah, Zeus, Vishnu and Rah that we get a sequel, because it deserves one.

I finally saw the movie I've been defending for months now today. First showing down at my theatre.
I'll just get right into the review.
Storywise, I really dug it. I loved the monster angle, though, like I've heard people say, I wish it could have gone into more depth with the monsters and how they got into New York. The main plot however, was pulled off rather nicely. A lot of good scenes, I especially loved the breakfast scene. I liked the fact that there was more emotion in this one than in the first, you could really feel the tension between Leo and Raph, and they pulled off the broken team/family angle off really well, it gave more depth to these characters. It really stuck true to the characters. Munroe also really knows how to do dialouge, and the ad-libing throw in there was well played.
The animation is where this movie really shines. Fight scenes looked beautiful, I especially loved the intro. Imagi should be given an award for this flick, they worked they're asses off and it shows. The facial expressions were perfect, and even the tinyest details were just a joy to the eyes. They really did make this movie look like a comic book come to life. The camera also added well to the mix. The best sequences were by far the Leo/Raph fight and Mikey's skateboard sequence. No CGI movie comes close to this level of greatness.
The voice acting was incredible. James, Mikey, Nolan, and Mitchell truly brought the Turtles to life. Sarah and Chris were great as well, Chris truly surprised me. Evans has managed to pull off both Johnny Storm and Casey Jones, thus guy can do comic characters. Mako, Patrick, and Ziyi were also good, though Karai sounded a little off at times. But I loved the feeling Mako put into the movie, may he rest in peace. I was also proud to see such great talents as Phil Lamar, Billy West, Jim Cummings, and Tara Strong involved in this.
The humor was kinda off and on. Sometimes it didn't work, but other times I couldn't help but to crack up. The humor in this movie definatley appeals to a much wider audience that the humor in the new series. Don and Casey, I thought, especially stood out. My firend Ricky was especially cracking up at the jokes in this flick.
The Leo/Raph fight, best fight in ANY incarnation of TMNT. I love the first movie, but that fight easily tops every fight in the first 3 movies. Centerpiece of the movie.
That said, my gripes:
The movie, WAY too short. It took off and just went without stopping. I really wished they would have kept all the cut footage in, It really would have helped if this movie was longer. Though, I guess Warner Bros just wanted to test the water with this movie, so I expect the inevitable sequel to be longer.
Also, some of the lines felt out of place. Some of April and Karai's lines I thought didn't really work, and would have been better off unsaid, or better worded.
I didn't mind the cartoony look of the humans though, I'd rather this than the "Polar Express style".
IMO, I'm with IGN in saying this movie was the best TMNT movie yet. The first one was great, but this added much more needed depth to the characters. The action was intense, the character relationships were well played, the voice acting was incredible, and theres still more they can do with the series. I hope the TMNT never go back to Live Action. It doesn't suit them like CGI does. Kudos to Kevin, Thomas, Peter, and everyone at IMAGI.
I'd gie this movie a 9/10. Not perfect, but still well worth the time.
I enjoyed it.
Mako's voice was great, but a little jarring at first, if only because I'm so used to other actors.
And yeah, there's no way this movie ISN'T getting a sequel.

I give it an "A"
some other things, it really anyoed my the bout in the end you had to squint to see Don fighting, and Raph sounded to italian but when he fought that monster in the diner i pissed myself with laughter, the music was good, Mikey's skate board scene totaly rocked, and that battle with the foot was way to short that should have gone for ages, and scince when does aprile fight huh HUH! but i cant wait to the next move becuase SHREDHEAD'S BACK

I enjoyed it myself and thought it was fitting to follow the original movie
I just about agree with all of your review, TMTWBR. I'd move that down to 7.5/10 though, if I'm trying to be objective.
I agree that the voice acting was stellar, the animation was smooth, and the characters were more than spot on (although old skool toon fans may not completely agree with that one). The movie was better than the trailer-- and you know that's not always the case!
Had no problems with April and Karai's lines, but I may have been distracted. And while I like CGI, the other styles have their benefits.
If I'm gonna to nitpick, I'll say the narration wasn't loud enough in the beginning; I could barely hear it. And I did have a small "eh??" moment with the editing in the middle of the final battle, but I won't mention it specifically. But that's getting REALLY picky. :)
I think I'd really like to see the director's cut!

i have it an A+ i loved it every moment and man raph and leo's fight so so intense...raph running away realising what happend i swore it sounded like he was sobbing...and when they made up in the end...i swore they were about to french kiss each other and make out right infront of everyone...:) heh... *gets weird looks from everyone* i'm yaoi fan...give me a break...yes i'm male >3>
I saw it twice today. Liked it for the same reasons as most others. Final battle seemed kind of "off" to me though.
And Leo held back after he found out it was Raph... :P

I just voted and gave it a B, because when I left the theatre, I was disappointed. Maybe I am a more critical person than I thought. But in the few hours since I watched it, it's grown on me, and maybe now I want to give it an A. It was definitely a ... weird movie. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Eh ... let me try to break down how I felt about it all.
CHARACTERS: The boys were fantastic, and I thought their characters were as well-written as I could have asked for. The problem is that none of them (except Raph) got enough screen time, and there definitely were not enough interactions between them. But my heart was BURSTING WITH JOY when Leo's family greeted him when he came home. I liked Splinter, and Leo, more in this movie than in any other version of the TMNT.
April and Casey, too, were well-done; I didn't mind April's fighting or career change as much as I had expected. Casey was very cute and funny. Karai, Max Winters, the generals, and the monsters were all individually cool, but there were too many bad guys and I got confused about the point of even having Karai and the Foot Clan in there at all, except to (not-so-subtly) set up the possibility of a sequel.
Raph was a tad more of a jerk than I'd have liked, but he was pretty, um, hot as well. I expected Don to steal the show with tongue-in-cheek smartness, but he really didn't have enough lines to do so, which was a disappointment. Michelangelo was absolutely adorable, and not too annoying, and the part where he added his Cowabunga Carl head to the shelf after Raph put up his Nightwatcher helmet was absolutely hilarious. I burst out laughing because I guessed what was coming, and the theatre joined in when they saw it.
SOUNDTRACK AND SCORE: I loved them both. I expected to hate the rock/rap songs, but they fit very well and made the movie more fun. The score was dramatic and emotional. A+.
INTRO: Lame as hell, and the worst part. My eyes were tearing up with embarassment at the dramatic epicness (when were the Turtles ever epic?), and Fishburne's underwhelming narration. I loved when each of the Turtles were introduced, though, and I would have cheered if anyone else in the theatre had.
SCRIPT: Not bad. Some of the lines were very cliché. Raph actually screamed, "NOOOOOOO!" at one point. Who does that? But, there was less cliché and sappiness than I had feared. Some of the conversations were very good: Leo-Raph, Raph-Casey, and Splinter-Raph's. Thankfully, some of the lines from Steve Murphy's novelization that I thought were too lame didn't get in. Unfortunately, some very cleverly written lines in the novelization didn't get in, either.
VOICE ACTING: Great job all around, especially with some of the lines they had to work with. The only voices that bothered me at any time were Karai's and Leo's. But Leo grew on me. And Karai is just too awesome for me to mind that she had a Chinese accent.
PLOT: Overused plot (but written in a quasi-original way). Way too many loose threads. Leo never found in himself the ability to lead. There was no point to Karai and the Foot Clan, but I would have preferred them to the monster plot (although Winters was cool, and the stone generals and the monsters did look wicked). There was a glaring mistake that anyone could have picked out: (the Jersey Devil was the last monster to be caught at one point, but then in the end, it had metamorphised into a huge monster thing that chased the Cowabunga Carl van.) Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think many of us really like TMNT to be too sci-fi. And Peter Laird god damn well knows that. I know it's his creation, and I know he didn't write the movie, but ... argh. I don't know. I just really like the idea of the Turtles being freaks in a realistic world.
DESIGN/ANIMATION: Beautiful. The Turtles and Splinter, and the monsters and the stone generals, and the scenery all looked great. As everyone says, the rain scene was absolutely stunning. The fight scenes were amazingly animated and left me breathless. I couldn't get enough of looking at the Turtles' dynamic facial expressions. I only have three problems: 1) I would have liked more saturated colours, 2) the humans looked weird (but I think that is a constant in all TMNT incarnations  ), and 3) sometimes, as someone else mentioned, the lips didn't match up with the voices.
Sorry if my criticalness pisses anyone off. I really am glad the Turtles are back, but I wanted to see more of the Turtles. It was a very pretty letdown. Final word is, I would love a sequel ... darker, maybe, and based on "City at War." But I don't think I can be of much help getting us one, because I really have no desire to see the movie more than, um, twice more in the theatre. ;)

Let me Just start by saying I may be a turtle fan for life but I sure went into this moving thinking I wouldn't like it and slowly as I saw more things for it I started to open up to it then about a week before I had read the paper back novel loved the story & now I've finally seen the movie and I must say this is hands down the best CGI movie I have ever seen period the detail has surpassed anything I've ever seen before.
I gave it an A+ no not because I'm a turtle fan because it was a damn good movie that's why. I don't really know what all of these reviewers are talking about from start to finish this movie had kick butt action, a great story, & stunning visuals.
THE STORY, & THE PLACES
THE OPENING
It was very Beautiful not sure if I care for the persons voice telling the story though but the fight scene was just beautiful. It may have come as a bit short but I think it got the job done I only wish it could have been a bit longer and perhaps we could have seen the generals in human form in battle.
THE JUNGLE
Simply beautiful I loved the colors, the textures and the way the leaves and grass blew in the wind.
I also really liked the backgrounds and characters it seems to me that the people doing this movie really did their homework!
I do wonder though even though we saw no blood did Leonardo kill those guys in the jungle?
BACK IN NYC
I thought this was a pretty cool way to show what was going on nice story telling device an oldie but a goody having April tell Leo what the others have been up to and while she didn't really know what Raph was up to we got to see. It was nice to see some well known voice actors playing the thugs as well as the toaster bit that was very cute.
I loved the fact that they got Billy West of Ren & Stimpy, & Futurama fame to play the TV news caster great work Kevin or whoever got him!
The City looked so nice and laid out my favorite part though had to be the dinner which has to be based on the famous Nighthawks panting by Edward Hopper I'm not sure if it is for sure but that's what I got from the look of it personally but Funny little art joke having Nightwatcher there lol.
While I found Michaelangelos little skateboarding scene to be honestly pointless the children got a kick out of it and I did like seeing the subway go through.
I'd like to add I'm very happy they took the time to make the prequel comics they help very much with the understanding of these story's. I only wish they had done more perhaps one on Max & the stone warriors as well as what the foot clan have been up to.
THE TURTLES LAYER
I liked it! It was like this huge amalgamation of everything we've ever had from the 80's toon, the movies, the comics, and the 2k3 series. Nice work!
Oh and to anyone wondering where they got the video Game machines and soda machines I bet they got them from the old foot warehouse in the first movie.
MAX'S TOWER
Simply Stunning the building that holds many works of art and priceless artifacts in it's self one. The animation on how the floor opened up was just brilliant. I also liked the security system I had already visions in my mind what would happen when Casey broke the vase and oddly enough it was just like I thought very nice.
THE HALFWAY POINT
I saw allot of people sort of having mixed feelings about this you have to have it though in my opinion you have to have the characters discover what's really happening around them you can't just skip that.
Allot of children started to talk over April & Don's part but loved the Fight between Leo & Raph.
I sort of felt that it was dragging on a bit though through the middle as did my younger sister she mentioned to me by this point she was getting sleepy.
I think allot of it had to do with the science fiction element it would really seem kids well at least young men where there to see the fighting go on.
Me I like both so I was just fine with it all and love to learn about past story's I'm not saying all but allot of children really don't care about that stuff I honestly can't remember myself caring till I reached about the age of 23.
THE ALMOST ENDING
The fight between the Foot Clan & the TMNT seemed rather rushed to me in all honesty I wish it could have been longer but perhaps that is just what we will get in next movie & I have no doubt in my mind that we will be getting another so better sleep now Kevin while you can lol.
I did like seeing Splinter running though he really did look like a large mutated rat for once in the characters creation and not a giant dog lol.
I must admit I still hate the music that had been chosen for this movie but it does work it's just background noise really to get you pumped and it did it's job for me.
I loved the moment where everyone comes into Winters Tower to see the Vortex Tornado reaching through the sky it was stunning and exciting the best way to describe this part of the movie to me is like when you've been playing a video game forever and you get to that last part it just gets so exciting.
Then to Have the Warriors Turn on Max and throw him like a rag doll was something else had I never even taken a look at the story I'd never have even thought about that let alone Max not truly being a villain.
The fight between the Stone Generals and everyone was great I think this was the highlight of the movie for me. I have to agree with allot of the reviewers when they said certain parts of the movie come off as Power Rangerish but I know what they meant by that now during allot of the fight scenes they have allot of one-liners some funny some not so funny.
The Turtles Used to do one liners in all older things allot and I think allot of people have forgotten that and the fact that this movie takes place in the more light hearted mixed worlds between Mirage black and white comics and the 80's cartoon.
I loved the almost ending of this movie between Karai's "You've passed the test you soon will be seeing many faces from your past again" to Max's laughter and happiness that his life may finally be over quickly rising and turning to dust it was great I would have been happy with it ending there.
But they went and did the lets have a Mike do a joke thing at the end I was oh lord please do not let this end like this and you know what I was happy it didn't even though the kids really enjoyed his eww it's in my mouth and nose comments.
THE 13TH MONSTER CHASE
This I didn't like so much I feel this is the worst part of the movie and seems like it was cut for time or something. I know it was supposed to seem like they where very short on time trying to find this last real monster but it just went by to fast and the monster seems to have come up out of thin air.
The Best part about this scene was Casey and April's bickering and the comments between Karai and the lone foot soldier that line of Karai's was the saving grace for me in this scene.
It also seemed a little to convenient for me that they lead the 13th monster back to Winters Tower throwing the Stone Generals along with the monster plummeting into oblivion.
I honestly couldn't come up with a better way in my mind though on how to make that all happen differently so I'm quite fine with it although I still think it to be a quick way to wrap things up.
THE ENDING
Ok I must admit it was cute and sweet and a great homage to the Turtles past bravo it even brought a few tears to my eyes to see all of those things for some reason.
To see Shredders Helmet, The Triceraton Space helmets, The utroms blasters and robots, as well as artifacts from the other movies as well it was very nice and now Raph's Nightwatcher Helmet rest with Winters and The Cowabunga Carl head.
A Very sweet and touching ending indeed.

THE CHARACTERS, VOICE TALENT, & DESIGN
THE LOOK OF THE TURTLES
The Turtles Designs took some time for me to get used to but over all I think they look great especially with all the amazing texture in the movie it's creepy because it's so real looking.
LEONARDO'S CHARACTER AND VOICE ACTOR
I thought Leo was played as well LEO! He's the same as always in this one for me which is fine he does do a bit of growing up and starts treating Raph like an equal that he is finally towards the end of the movie which made me very happy.
The voice of Leonardo came off as a bit odd to me at first it's rather different from anything we've had before but as the movie went on I got used to it.
I really enjoyed his Jungle scenes I wish they had more of those hopefully in the comic I really like him in the cloak even if we got to see it for a few second of the movie.
I was a bit shocked during the fight scene between He and Raph though especially with him having being gone for his special training you'd think he'd have become an even better fighter I love Raph but I was shocked he took Leo down like that breaking his Katana and all.
RAPHAEL & NIGHTWATCHER
Now this! This is The Raphael I'm talking about! He's angry, angsty moody, doesn't give a damn, does what he wants to me that's Raph.
He's officially my favorite character of this movie and glad he got so much screen time.
I'm not sure who it was be it Kevin or Peter who came up with the Nightwatcher alter ego for Raph but it's brilliant and I'd love to see more of it perhaps even more back story's in comics involving him fighting the thugs as the night watcher. Reading Raph's prequel book really helped me like the Nightwatcher persona even more so I really suggest anyone who hasn't picked that comic up yet to do so.
His Voice was great I really like them giving Raph that tuff Brooklyn accent.
DONATELLO
Ah that's my boy! Good old nerdy Don! I loved his voice it really worked for Donatello.
The Tech support part at the opening was just great one of the funniest Don moments I believe in the history of the Turtles!
He didn't play much of a role in the movie though more like a background character I really hope they step him up a bit more in the next movie.
But they very well may since it would seem Leo & Raph are finally done fighting.
MICHAELANGELO & COWABUNGA CARL
Mike's great the in movie he really amused the kids and that's pretty much what he does best in the animated tmnt world.
His voice was in-between for me I've never really cared for the modern day Michaelangelos voice to much it doesn't bother me to the point where I can't stand it but I don't know perhaps someday they can tone the guy down a bit and move away from the surfer dude California accent.
Cowabunga Carl funny stuff it's a shame the longer scene between he and Don had been cut.
My favorite part that the novel does not mention was when Karai opens the gates to Winters Tower and Casey is wearing the Cowabunga Carl head lol.
R.I.P. Cowabunga Carl the kids loved thee!
SPLINTER
I'm sorry to say it but I have mixed thoughts on him he's been stricter than any other incarnation of the character I've ever seen perhaps a little to strict?
Ok seriously also what is with him and watching soaps all of a sudden in everything?
He did kick some butt though in the fight scene and at the very end so that was nice to see.
Mako was a great voice actor but he just wasn't splinter for me they really need to bring Kevin Clash from the other movies back he was the best splinter to me or even the 80's toon splinter.
Splinters design was ok I found it interesting and the texture was very nice but he was a little to light brown for me if they where going down that road they should have made him a little darker and dingy he was a bit to brightly colored for my taste. But still better than the Gray or white splinters we've had in recent years I really don't care for that at all.
CASEY JONES
Ya know Casey was ok in this movie even if he did come off as a shell of his former self I think though that Mirages back story comics will really help us understand this a bit more.
The Design at first I hated looked like a toy but as I watched the movie and how he changed through it growing face hair differnt outfits he's a really well rounded character.
Oh and his voice was just fine almost a little like 2k3 casey which I like.
His kiss with April at the end was long over due as well!
I'm also very glad that they left out the huge fight they had in the novel that upset me a bit when reading that even though I know not all couples are perfect.
APRIL O' NEIL
Boy oh boy has she changed! From news reporter to Ninja jungle girl who can somehow take out Karai the new leader of the foot clan.
I really liked Aprils design even if she did come off looking like a Bratz doll as many people have said before.
The fact that she didn't wear the same outfit through the entire movie I believe is some kind of first for the TMNT universe and I applaud them for it.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was a great choice for April I think she played her very well it was different but I don't know it just really felt like she should be April to me.
I can't wait to get her prequel comic book to see how all of this stuff comes about with her doing this shipping business and all.
MAX WINTERS
Max is an amazingly deep character who at first through the story you are lead to believe he's evil but soon we realize he just wants his ever lasting life to end once and for all and fix the wrongs of his past and you actully start to feel for the guy.
Great character design great outfit changes really makes the character seem real especially when his 5 o'clock shadow comes in.
I really was expecting him to say something like farewell during the part where he evaporated but I think perhaps that would have been a little to cheesy for the movie.
Patrick Stewart this man is seriously a gift from above his acting and voice talent is just great what's even greater is that he is now a part of TMNT history.
KARAI & THE FOOT CLAN
Lord was Karai beautiful or what! Her voice actress was simply divine as well it's about time the voice actors are the right nationality for the characters. I think it really helped allot.
I enjoyed her design and also enjoyed when she first saw the turtles and took on Leonardo that was great.
The foot soldiers where interesting to say the least they had the least amount of detail to them though which left me wanting a bit more even though they are just disposable ninja.
I can't wait for the next movie and I am sure we will be seeing plenty of Karai & the Foot Clan next time.
THE STONE WARRIORS
These guys and Gal had very interesting designs and are by far my favorite designs in the movie.
Sadly I feel they where not used enough and only used as lackeys in the movie which seems a bit lowly for such godlike creatures.
The voices of the ones that spoke where great though I must say I don't believe the female one spoke at all though which was rather disappointing as well.
Like I said great designs just not used enough in the movie.
THE 13 MONSTERS
Amazing designs especially The Big Foot, The Jersey Devil, & The Vampire!
It's a shame really that none of them escaped I'd have loved it if the Jersey Devil got away he was a really cool little guy. I liked him so much I went out and bought the figure today the one only I bought from the new movie so far mind you.
My gripe with them is also the same for the Stone Warriors that they were not in the movie enough.
They where great eye candy but some creatures we didn't even see them outside of the tanks I'd have at least seen where they got captured at. Perhaps on the dvd we will see these things.
I just really love monsters and I'm happy they had them in the movie even if it wasn't for very long.

Just got back and I loved every minute of it. I have gripes, but they're not things that ruined the movie for me. The fights were entertaining, yet way way waaaay too short. The animation is fantastic, so it really makes the fight scenes a joy to watch, which is why my main complaint is with the lack/length of glorious knock-down, drag-out, fights. Also a severe lack of Mike and Donny, who were my favourites parts of the old movies, simply because of their great one-liners and banter, the goofy fun of the first trilogy was missing from this one. The whole sub-plot, (and yeah, I know I'm not alone in thinking the family aspect is the real heart of the movie.) involving the generals and monsters was rushed, and really just took time away from more development between the turtles.
I really enjoyed the stuff between Leo and Raph. That fight was great, and the look on Raph's face when he comes to his senses was really moving. I also loved Splinter's voice, it might just be because I love Samurai Jack and Mako as Aku, but I thought it sounded a lot more Japanese than previous Splinters. My major favourite part was how they actually went out of their way to directly relate this movie to the previous three, especially the scene at the end, showing the various "trophies" they've collected, that really brought a smile to my face.
All in all, I thought it was amazing. I will be seeing it again, without a doubt. Maybe two or three times more if I can rope someone into it with me. Here's hoping for a sequel!

I gave it an A because there is always room for improvement. It was good...I was practically the only one snickering at times. Two kids got busted in the middle of the movie. At the end, everyone stood up and clapped for the movie. It was only a small handful of us that made it to the first showing of the movie in a small college town.

I would have enjoyed it more, if some parent hadent brought there little baby to the movie who wouldnt stop crying the entire time we were in the theater. (If your kid is crying take them out of the theater.)
Over all. The movie was rockin. My daughter liked the "Green guys".
I will probably go see it again by myself next week though. (Only becase between my daughters questions, and the baby crying. It was hard to follow the film.)

Wow, great review. I too felt the 13 monster thing was a little rushed, but your right, Karai's comment saved it.
I thought the enviorments were beautiful, it truly felt like a living grapic novel, and the animation and voice acting were the best parts of the movie.

Karai
03-23-2007, 09:03 PM
It took getting used to the accent, but I think Mako did a splendid job as Splinter. Splinter is Japanese, and using a native Japanese voice actor, particularly Mako who was a Hollywood veteran, ended up working out very well. It was the same thing with Karai (Ziyi Zhang). She spoke in accented English, which I thought was appropriate for the character. They both worked well.
I was disappointed that Donatello didn't see more screentime and that Casey was less than his usual self. But on the whole, I absolutely loved the movie.
and scince when does aprile fight huh HUH!
She actually received training from Splinter in the Mirage comic series, so she can help the fab four kick some butt from time to time.

I actually thought it was really good. Just about every minute of the film gave me goosebumps -- in a good way. I didn't mind the intro's re-caps and how Yaotl and the Stone Warriors came to be. The fight scenes truly amazed me and they were perfect. Just...wow, I couldn't have asked for a better fight scene between Nightwatcher and Leonardo. The animation was top notch -- from the simple facial expressions to something as complex as Mikey's hardcore sewer skating -- I loved it.
It was cool how the Turtles interacted with each other -- mainly conversation and personality-wise. Things like Casey's conversation with Raph and Leo's conversation with Raph really made the dialogue and story shine. I can tell that the voice actors had fun doing the voices for movie -- really getting into character and giving new meaning to the term "character development."
Overall, I enjoyed the movie and I'd like to see a sequel. I give the movie an A because I felt it was too short.

*This post may contain SPOILERS*
I have to say the parts with the Turtles was done very well and loved every second of it, but the parts with the monsters and the flashback and that (though some parts were cool) seemed out of place at times. When it was over I wasn't sure what to think, I honestly think seeing the trailers and a handful of the screen captures spoiled it for me. I pretty well knew what was going to happen and was waiting for certain scenes. That shock and excitement of seeing it unfold was gone.
After thinking about it I generally realized it was good, the voice acting was good, I accepted that Splinter would have a different voice and didn't mind it. As a whole it was good, maybe more time breaking into Winters building and fighting with the foot plus Donny and Mikey did need more screen time. Bringing the turtles back together was nice though, I felt for Raph when Leo was turtle-napped.
Any way I want to see it again soon!
Great review, Putrescent! :D

Loved it! Best TMNT film since the first one easily and this one even had some better fight scenes. Sequel! Sequel! For now I'd just settle for seeing this one again though sometime this coming week.:) I'm not sure where to begin on saying all the reasons why I loved this movie right now. For now I'll just say that movies like this remind me of why I became a TMNT fan in the first place.

loved the movie but somehow, it gave me that same feeling when i saw Jet Li's "Fearless". i thought there was cuts made around that would have had things explained better.
when i finally saw the longer director's cut of "Fearless", my suspicions were correct. there were scenes that explained things better. Zhang Ziyi's voice seems lower than usual for some reason.
i intend to buy the hong kong dvd release of TMNT simply because of the cantonese dub featuring the voices of Infernal Affairs' Chapman To. i heard Lawrence Cheng who played the voice of Splinter in the live action movie reprises his role as Splinter.

I rated it an A, as there's always room for improvement. 8)
That's why I voted how I did. I always hate that TMNT movies seem to focus too much on the dynamics of the 2 Turtles who are the biggest opposites and forget the 2 that are kinda in the middle. Leo and Raph, again steal the spotlight from the family, which Monroe did say would be the biggest part of the film. I must admit the TMNT did come together as a family, but the main rift always seems to be Leo/Raph. But on the whole I loved this movie. Mako's Splinter grew on me. I loved his speech to Raph after Leo's capture. Not as strong as the "Master Yoshi's First Rule" speech from TMNT I, but still good.
But...
Did anyone else hear Karai's sequel bait lines at the end of the movie...:D Yeah...but what would it be called...*Looks to Angry Nintendo Nerd for guidance*

I was completely blown away by that. Wow. I haven't heard cheering in a film since, well, since I saw Serenity. :D Actually screaming and hollaring! That whole mess. I really think everyone enjoyed the films. There were a lot of kids but a lot of teenagers and 20-somethings. (Like myself and I was the kiddo's age when the first movie came out.) It was an event. This movie should be a smash hit. I'm sure we'll get a sequel. *knocks on wood*

I have to say...I think I experienced more talking in the theater than I've ever experienced..There was chatting everywhere during this movie. So many kids and teens...
I liked the movie but I think it was mainly a Leo/Raph focus with everyone else being a supporting character. Because of that, it almost seemed like there were too many supporting characters. I didn't really care for the monster storyline, but I loved the interaction between the Turtles. The Leo / Raph fight was probably the best scene in the movie!
A complaint would be that Karai's character seemed cardboard to me. I would have liked to see her fight one-on one with Leo and exchange some words. It wasn't really explained who she was or where she came from.
Casey and April had good chemistry, though it didn't really feel like the same characters from the first movies. Great cinematography and animation! Breathtaking scenes! I'll be getting this dvd for sure! I hope there's another movie, because what Karai's hinting at sounds sweeet!

My theater was pretty quiet. The theater was basically 1 parent per 2-3 child and me.
The kids and I laughed at most of Mike's funny lines. Basically the whole theater laughed at the joke near the end.
Afterwards I got a feeling most the kids really enjoyed it and a few of the parents seemed pleasently surprised as well. Hopefully the kids drag their parents there 3 more times each and the movie will make uber-$$ and they'll get right on making a sequel.

We went to a late movie and I am glad because the theater was apparently packed for the early show but at the same time I think I missed out on being on a theater full of excited people. My row may have been the only noise makers but the film in general got a lot of reaction.
I waited through the credits too but sadly nothing...

I gave it a B. I really enjoyed it, but there were some pretty apparent flaws that brought it down for me.
Some pacing issues, like at the end with the last monster, way too rushed. No explanation for why or how the monsters were in NY. I figure Winters or the portal lured them there, but they should have explained it. Things like this made it feel like some scenes were missing (deleted scenes?) Some of the humor fell flat too, but nothing was too cringe-worthy.
Thankfully, they got everything right in the character department. Sure, the story did focus on Raph and Leo, but that was necessary since it was arguably the primary conflict of the film. I still felt that everyone else had a fair amount of screen time. Though, I hope that Don gets a chance to be featured a little more prominently in the next one, if only for the fact that he's my favorite.
Oh, and the fight scenes. Awesome. The Leo and Raph fight was perfect.
Still, I would still rank the first movie above this one for the simple fact that it flowed better. But I can't deny that there are some things that this one did better than the first. But the most important point: Definitely a must see for turtles fans.

I'd disagree about a few minor things. I didn't like the voice work for Splinter. The actor has a very full robust voice. It doesn't suit Splinter well. His frame is too slim to produce that type of voice. I also thought that Patrick Stewart's voice work was rather lifeless and flat.
The other thing I noticed is that I didn't think the initial narration matched the style of the movie very well. But since it only lasts for a minute or two, that wasn't a big deal.

The kids in the theater were all shouting stuff like "It's Leo! That's Leo!" Or "That's Don" etc. whenever each Turtle first showed up on the screen. There was a lot of laughing too, especially during what my best friend dubbed the "Gizmo (from Gremlins) on steroids" attacks Raph scene.
As for hockey, I'm just relieved the Pens are staying in Pittsburgh where they belong!

My 2c on the movie
I’m a terrible reviewer but I’ll try.
Tone of the movie: PERFECT. Nothing needs to be said about how it looks. It’s dark. Just the way it needs to be.
Settings, the city, etc: NYC never looked so fine in CGI.
Weather & details: The rain in the big fight piece was excellent. You really forget they’re computer images. I know water is one of the hardest things to animate, they did a fantastic job with the drops landing on Leo or Raph’s face and streaking down the side of their faces, it was so real. And the red lighting from the neon sign added to it.
I loved the little details they included, such as the flying insects in Central America, it’s really like that. Bugs are everywhere in rain forests. And the shot of Ape’s machete, the blade stops right in front of the camera shot you see the manufacturer inscriptions on the blade!! That is attention to detail! OMG and the close-ups! You get a good look at Mike’s hand when he’s snoozing, you see veins and skin texture and little wrinkles at the joints on his fingers…then the close-ups of Leo & Raph’s faces in the fight and, brows furrowing, and expressions were so right on. Minor things that I think suck is the covering lower areas and butt with what to me look like a thong made of shell, and they need tails. That’s just me, turtles need tails. Oh and fingernails! Turtles have claws, where’d their nails go? But those are extremely MINOR, all the details they put into them are excellent. The aircraft was even identifiable as looking like an L10-11.
Movement was so fluid and so natural it’s insane. Are we sure they’re CGI and not real?? HAHA! Yes their plastron is supposed to be stiff like a normal turtles, they mutated…it can be both firm and flexible at the same time. So that didn’t bother me. And YAY none of that stupid head dropping into the shell!
Our Heros:
• Leonardo: I’m glad my previous thoughts of him being OOC was removed by the movie. He IS in character and was portrayed well. His reputation in the forest is pretty cool, he’s like a spectre that protects the villagers. He is a bit smug, when fighting Raph when he was still hidden by his helmet, “You call that an attack?” Voice work, excellent.
• Mikey: Needs more development. We all know how goofy and fun loving dear little brother is, but there’s more to him. He mostly fools around and you don’t get to know him much. Voice work, good, but sounds too young when they’re supposedly around 17ish?
• Donatello: Like Mike, not enough. He DOES get to be good ol smart Donnie with some stuff. I thought it was a kick he was doing tech support. But we don’t get to know him as much either. Well done voice work.
• Raphael: I save the best for the last. This is a Raph movie, with a good dose of Leo for conflict. Many know I’m biased, he’s my hero, I love Raph, and I REALLLLLY love this Raph. He’s TMNT1 Raph reinvented, and with CGI he can do craploads more than live action. (I do want to see more of Don & Mike believe it or not!!) This is a brilliant, freaking brilliant portrayal of Raph. He is intense, angry, aggressive, frustrated, of course a hot head and impulsive. He looks awesome in his Nightwatcher gig, you first see him with this hard rock theme playing and he looks up, and that shot will make ANY Raph nut swoon he looks so freaking H. O. T. I swear they did that on purpose. Voice work? *drool* Nolan is a good choice for Raph, he’s got the inflection and intensity that is Raph.
• Splinter: I REALLY like Mako’s Splinter. I wish Make was still with us to see the finish product. He was really good. Splinter was portrayed well, you see both father and sensei here. None of the stupid handshakes that’s been in the cartoon lately! He hugged Leo when he returned from CA; you see DAD. They call him father. That is what I wanted to hear and see, not just yes master, no master, this master that master…I wanted to see and hear the father side of Splinty. I got used to his new look, very different than the usual.
• Weapons Use: WOOHOO!!!!!!!! CORRECT SAI USE! YAY! Raph locks those blades and snaps them, just as the sai were designed to do! (That scene was intense, loved it) I was damn freaking happy to see correct use of sai with of course some of Raph’s own creativity with them but mainly they were used right. Leo had some great moves with his blades. I don’t know a whole lot about them but I assumed they were also used correctly. We don’t see enough of Mike to see him use his babies, you see maybe a total of 4 seconds if that of nunchaku…that sucked. You see a little of Donnie and the stick…but not enough.
• April & Casey: One thing that I’m so-so on are the humans. Ape’s just way to skinny, (as was Karai) that just I dunno…looks way funny. She was fine in the movie, I liked the early scene with Leo, that was cool. She didn’t stand out to me. Her YELLOW outfit, ugh…okay lady we’re going ninja here, yellow is a flag that says KILL ME. Casey was cool he was more like the 2K3 series Casey. He’s a little clumsy. He is as always Raph’s bud, sidekick to his Nightwatcher persona too. Wish they did more with Case & NW fighting though.
• Karai: Not enough to really know her, I suspect in the next we will get to know her more. She kicks butt, totally. Ziyi Zhang is a good voice for her, I hope she returns for the next one. Brilliant scene where the turtles try to help the Foot take down a monster (the skunk ape?) she sees Leo and starts going after him! Like she knew he had something to do with Shredder’s death.
Stand out Scenes:
For me all the Raph stuff of course. I loved the breakfast scene. They had to get Leo & Raph calling each other names, it’s classic. And Splinter coming in all cheery, humming a tune and greeting his sons...loved it!! Then he’s all into his soaps…
The big Leo/Raph fight of course is great. I wanted it longer though, more moves…they did so well on choreographing the fight it looked very real and the weapon use was right. I was craving more of the fight scene, hopefully there’s more on the DVD when it comes out. The big battle was too short too, we needed more! Gimme some more glamour shots of Raph fighting. It was a really unusual way they did this part, we follow one turtle, then to another, then we follow sensei…it’s weird and neat at the same time. I wanted to see more like that with the fight. One of the best and funniest was Raph trying to give little Jersey Devil a butt kickin, but he got it instead! Hilarious!!
The scene after the big fight, Raph runs in and speaks with Splinter…all of that was great, but when he pulls out the broken blades you see a really pissed sensei but he keeps it cool and collected, you see him dealing with it visually! It was great!!
Music:
Well done! Raph’s Nightwatcher theme when we first see him is so perfect. As Ape is telling Leo what each brother is up to, they have a sort of theme tune with each segment I thought fit. They had a nice score that fit in with the scenes, I felt nothing was out of place with it.
The bad guys, well, they were run of the mill…okay stuff. The most important to me was the turtles and how their story becoming a close knit family again worked out.
All in all, I enjoyed it a lot. We watched it 2x today …taking my nephew & son tomorrow, that’ll be 3x for me opening w/e. Never done that before!!!!! I’ll see it a few more times before its finished it’s run. And like my TMNT1 DVD, I’ll wear out a copy of this movie’s DVD when that comes out!

Just got back from my local showing.
Overall, on this scale, I'd give it a B. Maybe 7.5/10 overall, but with time and rewatchings it'll probably go up to an 8.
And here's the breakdown:
STORY:
Honestly, the monster story felt tacked on to me... the movie could have functioned quite well without it. That said, they handled it better than I expected... so kudos. I also noticed the error with the 13th monster... it actually would have allowed for an entertaining struggle if they'd had to bring in what I thought was the 13th monster. Ah well.
It was the family story that sealed the deal for me. Once this story kicked off, the pit in my stomach caused by my early impression of the animation (see below) cleared. The arguments especially were well written and acted, I thought... and the two rival Turtles were shown to have both flaws and strengths. Which I loved - Leo was my favorite turtle at one point (before I stopped being able to favor only one :P) and I like to see him just at fault for tension as Raph. He's the sort that argues, but in a quieter, more biting way. And when he crossed the line on the rooftop... whoa.
ANIMATION:
Honestly, I spent the first 20-30 minutes of the movie soundly unimpressed. The lipsync was not very well done, a lot of things moved a little too "CGI" and not enough "natural"... I was like "aww, MAN... don't tell me I'm in for a cruddy movie..." But the lipsync improved over the course of the movie. I wonder if it was because the Hong Kong animators had less of a feel for how to sync English? Who knows... but generally the ACTION part of the animation (running, fighting, etc.) was good, while the lipsync and the more subtle ACTING part of the animation (like, choosing what to do with hands/gestures) was good at times but extremely weak, even clunky, in others.
But that fight... hoooooo man. Worth the $5.50 I paid for the ticket by itself.
One of my friends who came with me to see the movie is a HUGE Raph fan, and after he got Leo on the ground, I leaned over and said "10 points for your boy." :D I also loved how he was practically sobbing as he took off over the rooftops... nice work there. Emotional. I loved it.
TEXTURES/LIGHTING/CINEMATOGRAPHY:
In a word, fantastic. What was subpar in the animation department was balanced by the sheer look of the film. The textures are amazingly detailed, lighting is great, and cinemetography also quite awesome. This was the part my animation buddies were most impressed with. One specifically pointed out the rain during the fight scene. It was indeed phenominal, and kudos to Imagi for that.
VOICE ACTING:
Also phenominal. ESPECIALLY whenever Leo and Raph were arguing... none of it sounded forced to me. Even Raph's "NOOOOO" wasn't too bad - of course, the fact that he threw down his sai while he did it made him seem distraught enough for it to be plausible. Though I suppose a wordless "AAAAAAUUUURGH" may have been better. I'm used to Mako because of Avatar, so I loved him too. The lipsync would throw off his voice a bit, though. Some of those mouth shapes reminded me of Don Bluth's work. X)
SCRIPT:
At least in terms of the lines said, generally good. I'll mention the Leo/Raph verbal fights again and say that nothing felt out of place there. Mikey had some painful lines, though at least some were obviously supposed to be that way. I think the weakest dialogue in the film were the one-liners. Some hit, some missed, some missed by a mile. I don't mind that they were there, but I would have liked some better ones.
As for the opening narration... yeah. Pretty bad. Though as he got into the backstory, I stopped noticing as much. Not sure whether that was due to me being drawn into the story or him just getting better. Too much drama for a story like this, I think.
And the "name" actors did pretty well. Even April's pausy "explain the legend of Yaotl" lines at least made a little sense in context.
MUSIC:
I'll be brief here and just say I liked it. The score, at least. My main complaint is I just wanted to hear a few more themes. Good thing the Nightwatcher theme is a good one that I didn't get tired of. :)
THEATER EXPERIENCE:
Positive. It warmed my heart to hear the audience cheer and applaud as that green flame appeared on the screen when the movie started. There was also scattered applause for each Turtle's introduction, and more applause when the end credits hit. Didn't notice too much audience reaction throughout the movie (though some one-liners got some decent laughs) but the beginning and ending... aaah. Good time to be a Turtle fan. I wore my shirt that I made last night (may have to post a photo) and my animation guys commented on it. :D
FINAL WORDS:
Maybe Peter Laird likes monster/alien stories, but I honestly prefer the Turtles in their home city, fighting ninjas or street gangs. Yet, this film did OK for what it was. Perhaps aiming for "all ages" was a mistake, as I heard several people commenting about the film "not knowing who it was directed at" as we all left. Though I thought it really did feel aimed for the old-school in-their-twenties-fans, especially with the family tension.
There's talk of a possible sequel. And of course, Karai's parting words left plenty of room for one... and, dare I say, one that could adapt a certain well-loved story from the comics. :) With the practice they had on this film, I'd love to see what Imagi could do with a second Turtles movie. This one just has to do well enough at the box office and maybe they'll consider it. Though I for one would definitely want them to push the boundary and make any sequel PG13. Then maybe we can see some sweet nunchuck action from Michelangelo. :D

oh yeah, i did. I'm still thinking of alot of stuff to add to my comments. But yeah your right, that whole bit he runs in there like he did, Splinter tells him all that but what I really liked now that you remind me...when he shows Splinter the broken blades, and Splinter's there practically simmering but he keeps calm even though you KNOW he's pissed.

ok, im still on my natural high from all this, so forgive me if im kinda jumping around in waht i say.
night started with my friend coming and picking me up, me and my best friend Doug [not a huge tmnt fan, but DOES like them] to watch the movie
we get up to the mall, and when we get there i noticed it was actually pretty packed [even for a friday night.] we went inside, and i noticed, yes its packed, but its a different crowd this time...its not all thugs and grown ups, it was kids my age [20 +/-] and moms with kids...and the atmosphere felt different somehow
well, when we get to the movies, i noticed the lines were HUGE. normal for a friday, but once again, no thugs or grown ups, all kids my age. well, with my connections since i worked at the theaters for years, i walk past the line and go get 2 tickets for my friends (i never buy tickets anymore since i have connections, but i happily shelled out [Pun Intended] 18 bucks for them tonight)
we walk around for a while (we had 45 minutes to waste) and we notice more and more [especially when we went into the theater] both kids and people my age walking in with bandanas on, groups of 4 wearing one of each of the colors, people with TMNT shirts on, people running around singing the TMNT oldschool theme song, kids singing the new toon song, people talking about the original movies...it was awsome. needless to say i was jumping into conversations left and right with total strangers ^ ^;;
i still say my true Soul mate was at the movies somewheres today lol...
anyways, i realized the movie was in theater 12, which surprised me, because 12 and 7 are the 2 biggest theaters they have, seating 800 people in each one. and bothw ere dedicated to the TMNT tonight. and guess what? both of them SOLD OUT. awsomeness.
throughout the entire movie people are loving it, u can hear laughter on every joke, u can hear comments behind us "dude this is so cool" "omg its like being 8 again" etc etc
at the end of the movie, people actually applauded. im talking bigger applauds than 300 the other day [yes, thats a surprise i know.] LOUD applauding.
it was great, tonight a group of people gathered that havent shown themselves for years. tonight, every 20 year old that came to the movies was 8 again. it was fun to relive my childhood days, even if it was just for 3 hours, ive waited nearly 10 years for this day, and i can truely say that i am uber happy that it finally happened. the TMNT are back. it almost brings tears of joy to my eyes...
i love being a turtle...
JThere's talk of a possible sequel. And of course, Karai's parting words left plenty of room for one...
It was quite devious the way they planted that seed of expectation in the audience!
I also gave it a rating of 7.5/10... in some thread, somewhere... lol. (Kinda feel sorry for the mods having a thousand new threads to deal with... yikes! But it's for a good cause!)

I guess the yellow-clad April was there to please the old 'toon fans. :) Though I loved the little scene where she modeled it for Casey and he was awestruck, hah!
Gotta agree, I loved Raph in this movie too. Like TMNT1, it was mainly about him, but the difference was that in this movie Leo was a worthy foil (none of that "well YOU act like a JERK sometimes!" wishy-washy Leo :P) And I thought that same thing when he broke Leo's swords! "Hey... that's part of what sai are MEANT for, isn't it?!"
Before this movie, if you'd pressed me to name a least favorite Turtle, I probably would have said Raph. I just don't identify very much with him. But between my rewatching of TMNT1 and this... dangit, why must they make them so hard to rank?! Probably a good sign that I should stop trying. :trazz:
I also noticed Splinter's "OK, count to 10, count to 10" moment after Raph confessed what he'd done. I thought that while overall the subtle acting in the animation could have been MUCH better, that at least was well-handled. Splinter is also not infallible. He even admitted that Raph was not on top of his student list... but that he considered him just a worthy son. Every time a Turtle called Splinter "father" my heart went gooey. :P

No one cheered at my theatre. They seemed underwhelmed. :(
I picked the C rating in the poll because I did like the older ones better (excluding the awful TMNT III, of course), but I'd give it somewhere around a B-/C+ rating (or two stars even). The Leo/Raph fight scene was great, but I thought everything else was incredibly lackluster -- particularly the plot and the characterization of the villains, who got almost none at all. The generals and Karai barely got mentioned by name! And I knew that April was going to be all ninja and hardcore, but that they suddenly thrust her in that role with no explanation was disappointing (and no, I don't think that I should have to shell out more money for a prequel comic to explain that development).
The writing and direction was also fairly subpar. There was a lot of jumping around between scenes -- for example, a fight is only as cool as the setup, but it suddenly went from Casey doing the Cowabunga Carl distraction to them battling the Foot in the scene everyone had already seen -- and a lot of the dialogue seemed oddly forced. Like I said, the Leo/Raph fight was great, but the dialogue that served as the intermission was really out of place -- Leo floors Raph with an uppercut, and then suddenly the dynamic of the scene abruptly switches and Raph starts going on about how smug Leo is. Then Leo criticizes Raph for "dressing up like it's Halloween." Even when I saw that scene in the clip, I was thinking, "Er... would a mutant Turtle say something like that? When one is a humanoid turtle creature, dressing up is probably a pretty good idea..."
Anyway, I could go on, but my point is that while I think it had its moments, I thought that the film was something of a letdown. But then, everything about the buildup had led me to expect "the best TMNT movie yet" -- and I have a very high opinion of the first film. Oh well, maybe next time.

I gave it an A. Because this movie needs much improvement, but I blame that on the studios and their stubborness to handicap the film by demanding a kiddie friendly PG instead of a PG-13 (which I think we need, start writing petitions people, it's the only way we can get the Turtles to really use their weapons.
I loved the action, the CGI animation, the voices, the character interaction, and some of the visuals were quite stunning. I especially loved it when Raph and Casey were looking down the roof top to the thing that had just flown over them, and the screen seemed to rotate above and around them. Too cool for words.
I loved the scores used in the movie. Everything fit in nicely. I especially loved the Raph vs Jersey Devil scene, everything in that was hilarious, and had the whole audience laughing their a$$es off!
Things I didn't like, or what I would have liked to see.
I wanted to see Leo kick that fat ass to kingdom come in Brazil, bad. I don't like this where you see them draw their weapons, and then CUT! To another scene. That annoys me.
Movie was rushed, but i again, blame the studio for forcing Kevin to do this. Pisses me off royally that they could sabotage what could have been an awesome movie into a good movie, for whatever reasons I cannot fathom.
I still didn't like the human CGI. The faces were great, as well as their expressions, but the bodies were too skinny and funky.
Not enough weapon use, but again, studio's fault for not granting a PG-13.
One thing I worry though. The studios want this to make 100 million domestic to warrant a sequel. While the theater I was in was packed, it was a small theater, seating only maybe 108. They had two movies going at the same time, but when the Hills Have Eyes is playing next door in the 600 maximum capacity theater, and having more show times than the Turtles, I wonder how many other theaters will do this, and if TMNT will have a chance at box office gold? I honestly don't expect this to be number one. It will probably be number two, behind The Hills Have Eyes, unfortunately.
But there were way more adults that went to see TMNT than the kids. Hint hint to the studios!;)

I completely enjoyed this movie! I saw it twice! I have NO complaints, and as for anyone else's, well, they can have their opinions I guess.
But for ME this was the best movie I've seen in a long time-- sometimes (and especially the legendary fight scene) I forgot I was watching an "animated" film. I enjoyed ALL the voice actors (Mako was fantastic!), and I truly think that Kevin's having the four Turtles in the same recording area, working together, made their scenes together even better!
And now-- off to bed!

I was seriously unable to wipe the smile from my face when the movie started, eventually I did and then the turtles were introduced and I was grinning like an idiot all over again. It was almost overwhelming.

Howdy folks-longtime TMNT fan, lurker and first time poster. I wanted to wait and make my debut here on the forums after I saw the film. I gave it a B-parts of it were really really good and the only flaws it had were the studios fault. I LOVED the characters....its obvious that all involved love and know the turtles and their supporting cast. I really loved how they handled Casey and April in this film. It was a blast to see the whole gang back on the big screen but the story could have used some work....the villians all seemed like saturday morning cartoon cannon fodder and the whole thing with the monsters didnt really have much of a TMNT vibe...I would have rather seen them fighting Utoms of Triceratons or any of the past comic characters. Not to beat a dead horse, but I really dont understand why the studio wanted this to be a PG film....had it been PG-13 we might have gotten to see more ninja action and maybe a more serious tone for the story. All the Spiderman and X-Men movies have been PG-13 as well as Warner Bros. own recent Harry Potter flicks and the rating has only helped to attract kids and families to those films. I also feel that a LOT was cut out of this version...hopefully we will get an unrated DVD with all the deleted scenes put back in...although knowing WB,I doubt it. The voice cast was pretty good with Mako and Patrick Stewart being the standouts. SMG and Chris Evans did well with April and Casey, but did the studio really need to pay for stars like them? I doubt many Buffy fans were running out to the theatre just because SMG did a voice in it. If the studio HAD to have a name for those two characters I would have rather heard Paige Turroco and Elias Koteas reprise their roles. And Laurence Fishburne? He had a monologue...tops. God only knows how much THAT took out of the budget...and it would have made more sense for Patrick Stewart tp do that part anyway. I really did like the film and it goes great with the first one...I really hope it gets a sequel and I really hope that its a PG-13 version of City At War. But I give it a 9....9.95!

What confused me about Splinter's voice is that sometimes it had a strong accent, and sometimes it didn't.
I LOVED it whenever he called them "boys," though.

THE CHARACTERS, VOICE TALENT, & DESIGN
THE STONE WARRIORS
I must say I don't believe the female one spoke at all though which was rather disappointing as well.
Like I said great designs just not used enough in the movie.
No, she spoke. I was waiting for it for a while, but at the end when they approached Max, she was talking for a little while to him. They were one of my fav parts of the movie, they were awesome. I wish they did do more too actually.
Movie needed to be longer, but I hope the DVD has a lot of extras. Wanted to see more fight sense with them.

ok, well i had all these people come up to me this week and ask if i was goin, and how they thought it looked awesome....so me and a few of friends just invited a bunch of people to the movies after our trackmeet(i coach track) and so we had to go to the late show.....9oclock
-7:30:....we go to a restuarant (about 8 of us) all order pizza(which actually had boxes that kinda looked like the ones in the movie), and have a great time
-8:15: we have a couch in the back of a pickup and sit outside the theature and listen to music and talk about stuff
-8:45: we go in, i'm the first in line of course:). we pile into the movie theature, after all of the people i invited showed up, we had about 25 to 30 people show up, it made me really happy, haha i walked around and shook everyone's hands and thanked them for being able to experience this with me *yes i'm a nerd, but i was giddy*, people were sittin around, one guy started singin the ninja turtle song so i busted out the cellphone so i could play my ninja turtle ringer with him
-9:00 the movie starts, everyone start applauding!!! and i have a huge grin on my face and a warm feeling inside. lol i about cried during this movie once, i'm man enough to admit that:)
-10:30 the movie gets over and i am very satisfied, everyone's feedback i got said they liked it but wished that the raph-leo fight would have been longer and the final fight would have been longer.

I had to drive to find a theater. For some stupid reason the theater in the mall in downtown Indianapolis was not showing the movie so I had to drive to a suburb near where I used to live. Worth every drop of gas though.

Wow, great review. I too felt the 13 monster thing was a little rushed, but your right, Karai's comment saved it.
Karai's comment frustrated the heck out of me. I mean, she basically said, "The next time we meet... it will be in a better and more interesting movie." But why couldn't this movie have been better and more interesting? Bah.

Overall, I think this movie was at least as good as the 1990 TMNT movie, though for its own, unique way. I somehow... somehow, prefer this approach to that used in the first movie, but I think that's just because I tend to be a little "special" myself, so I'm told. (Animator's insanity. We all have it.:| ) The movie felt , more than anything, like it was lifted directly out of an actual classic TMNT comic -- complete with a ridiculous over-the top main plot, rich, meaty family dynamics, and great action scenes.
My feelings as I walked out of the theater with a huge smile attacking my face: "My God, that was totally awesome!" The other thought: "How the ****in hell did that work??? I demand answers!! NOW!!!!!!"
It really shouldn't have held together so well. It had no right to. This is everything your film critics and your teachers tell you you shouldn't do when you fit a movie together. It was insane. Completely insane. No, I take that back. There were insane elements dispersed throughout the film, though they were by no means the utter core. They did not overwhelm the tone, but rather added to it. I note the opening sequence: it basically kicked you in the face with it being completely "off its rocker," and the opening narration and the SHOTS were so overtly cliche, the scale so over-the-top I can't imagine how it wasn't aware of its absurdity. I was laughing so hard by the end of that beginning sequence there were tears coming out of my eyes and I'd developed a six-pack.
There were these absolutely crazy elements that were somehow balanced out by slower, quieter, scenes. For example, I think of Leo and April sitting around the fire. That was the first huge breather from all we'd seen before. And there was humor: though it was quite different from the humor of the first film, it was good. The theater laughed many times at the intended comedy, some not-intended. (Mostly the irony that naturally arises from this sort of plot.) I really liked the turtles at breakfast. That scene was just brimming of great voice acting, comedic TIMING (and timing is everything...), animation, and dialog. Every character was involved, yet it was so simple. For reasons like this, I dare not dismiss the film or try to sum it up in one simple package. It's not.
Okay... other aspects. Oh yes: I actually agree with one particular reviewer who described the movie as being "Totally out of its freaking mind" -- though he overlooked the parts where the movie took itself very seriously and concluded that it was "awful." But at the same time, it had... drama, beauty, and most importantly, it took itself seriously. I remember director Brad Bird talking about the importance of a movie that isn't a comedy to take itself seriously, no matter how absurd things get. Irony -- including comedic irony -- is a secondary result of this approach, and this movie gave that to us in wonderful doses.
But you can't just blindly dismiss the movie as crazy. It's also -- well just look at the family dynamics and the fight between Leo and Raph. There is so much intensity, a deep sense of self that gives energy to this strange, strange concoction.
The infuriating thing about this movie is that, I think, it is extremely difficult to define. You can't just pinpoint something and call it the rest of the movie. It isn't constructed like a typical movie, despite it's seemingly "cliche" plot. It doesn't resolve in the conventional way, in my opinion. The unorthodox continuity and story progression is both "weakness" in that it alienates viewers who expect something to unfold in a particular way... and it's a unique strength in that it is more truly itself... Oh man, I know you're all probably like Raph right now falling asleep when Casey fumbles over explaining strange feelings. The logical part of me loathes saying this because I can't explain it yet in painstaking detail: This movie does its own thing. It does not lend itself well to definition and that is why it really bothers some people.
Though I have to say -- I haven't met anyone at my college who thought the movie was bad. I've heard from most people a similar reaction: it was very strangely a good movie. Everyone in the auditorium applauded at the end, yet it was one of the strangest... I'm running out of ways to say this. I talked with my friends afterwards over a midnight pizza. We were all very surprised at how wonderful the film was -- not because it was TMNT, but because there was no way we could see it coming. It's similar to the feeling I got, actually, when watching Pirates for the first time. It's just really good fun.
I'm still of the opinion that, at this point, if word of mouth gets around, and if other forces come into play, TMNT could turn into one of the most beloved films of the franchise. Excellent job, Kevin. You've crafted a film true to the comic book roots of the turtles. Sorry for the erratically written review, but if I spend any longer trying define this movie, I'll go nuts.

i would have to say that i am not fond of the direction they went with the galaxy aligning...they could have done so much more things relevant to NY like purple dragons more foot clan ...more karai and came out with a product just as good if not better. but for the direction that they did go in i think that the movie was good. a few quarrells here and there but i am glad that they kept it pretty serious and mikeys humor was very appropriate in terms of timing and content. to me it is one of they better movies of the year so far and very comparable to a lot of releases in 07 and that is saying a lot for a a movie that is only pg and cgi
Oh, WORD. I'm not going to quote Fled's whole post, but I totally agree.
I think, this movie was a little too much at once, and for some viewers it was way over their heads. Extremely fast-paced, together with some unexpected features. I also saw that review that said it was "totally out of its freaking mind," and I wholeheartedly agree with that assessment!
Now, I'm won't say that this movie was a work of high art but I'd compare the professional critic reactons to someone reading a classic novel and not understanding why it's a classic novel. But they have to write an essay about it, so they do their best, and just miss the whole point.
I'm a major fan, I know the characters extremely well, and yet there are still plenty of things people have pointed out in their reviews that I just didn't get while watching the movie. I'm really happy I'll be able to see it again over the weekend, because I'm sure I'll get a better picture.
ETA:
It just occurred to me: THIS IS A KEVIN MUNROE-PACED MOVIE. You know how fast that guy talks in an interview? REALLY FAST. And thats how fast he tells the story in TMNT. ;)

And the visuals, the designs... wow, did I underestimate this movie. Forgive me for my skepticism. The first 10-15 minutes of the movie, as someone said, were not up to the same level as the rest of the film, visually. Aside from that opening explosion of a billion running bodies, the look was new, different from any CG feature-length film I'd seen before (with the one major exception being the designs for the monsters and the males of the movie, who I'm sorry looked like clones of Bob Parr. I almost wonder, with so many design and animation strengths, I wonder if people just "ran out of time/resources" on some things. This is another thing keeping I loved the colors, the textures, the shadows, the renderings, the very "film noir" appearance. This is something I'd hoped for even before I knew a new TMNT movie was in the works. Over all, the film was really gorgeous. At times, as others have also said, I forgot I was watching a CG film. I know, I know TMNT hasn't TECHNICALLY reinvented the wheel. But I hope this movie gets some sort of recognition for its visuals. the animation quality wasn't always consistent in the movie however -- and I only mean this in the subtlest of ways. Then again, great animation is subtlety. Anyways, it is different than Pixar animation. I won't say better or worse, as far as enjoyment or believability goes -- only worse in that it feels a less polished, conceptually, that if only there had been a little more time and resources, it could have been pushed to its full potential.
To sum up the thoughts of my raging inner critic: the infuriating thing about this movie is that, I think, it is extremely difficult to define. I feel that one can't just pinpoint something and call it the rest of the movie. TMNT is not constructed like a typical movie, despite it's seemingly "cliche" plot. Karai's comment frustrated the heck out of me. I mean, she basically said, "The next time we meet... it will be in a better and more interesting movie." But why couldn't this movie have been better and more interesting? Bah.
I think he was talking about karais comment to the foot soldier about casey and april not what she said to the turtles.
Ninja Tiptup
03-24-2007, 03:32 AM
I felt that was out of character for Karai. She was quite casual in that scene and when she got pushed out of the van. The new toon Karai would lop someone's head off for that. But the foot soldier nodding at her comment was GOLD as was the foot soldier knocking someone else out of the van.
IMO the family dynamic was a bit preachy seeing as the bad guys were also a troubled family but that does give it more moral value than previous turtles movies which is nice in its own way.
Not enough Don for sure and a bit more Mikey would have been nice but Leo and Raph squaring off for real is something TMNT fans for generations have been waiting for.
The bad guys didn't get enough fleshing out besides Winter's though. And the monster, foot clan and generals were hardly present enough to get anything out of watching them. The movie was way too short for my tastes as well and the pacing wasn't great. Infact the last fight's pacing was pretty dreadful but I give them props for that scene because it had plenty of action going on at the same time.
The humor in this movie was great and not overbearing and the drama was some of the best for non-Mirage TMNT. It was authentically TMNT. Which is someone I can't say about the 2nd or 3rd live action movies. A good mix of silly humor and one liners along with a out of this world plot and some solid drama with family dynamics.
If you have any reservations then go see it for the animation at the very least. Leo VS Raph is amazing and the ending of that scuffle just might surprise the turtle vets of the world.
The plot just didn't feel complete though and in the end I wasn't really satisfied. It's a good movie and all but I just like it. I wanted to love it. I wanted to come out of the theatre with an urge to watch it again but I just can't say I do. And that's dissapointing to me but maybe I just had expectations that were too high.
ya know i have a theory, shredder was in this movie... why did Karai only take one foot with her, and why did she help him walk when he was a measaly foot, i think that was our dear old Shreadhead... and i want some smoke pallets, and why did you change my board nammmmmeeee

Enjoyed the movie every second. I had my gripes (like the human character designs, Casey all of a sudden having ninja jumping abilities, the 13 monsters deal being rushed). But for the most part, the humor was hilarious (Mikey had all the girls "awing" throughout the movie and laughing), the characters were the same, personalities matched each one perfectly, and though me and my friends were mainly upset about Donatello playing the background (as usual), we knew that the Raph/Leo feud would be the main theme, as it always is.
The action in this was superb, it was a shame that the scenes lasted so shortly. The rooftop scene with Leo vs. Raph was perhaps one of the most intense scenes I've ever seen in fighting history. The setting, the tone, the atmosphere, the build-up... A+ material!
The story was a bit too complex for kids, I thought. The plot should've been a little simpler. The voice actors did an excellent job! Donatello's VA was probably the best. Leo and Raph brought a lot of emotion out.
I was so glad to see all showings for the movie sold-out (except the late late late night ones). A lot of the college kids came out for this one just for the nostalgia, and everyone was talking about this movie afterward. Some were pissed that there was no Shredder, but they stuck with the movie and enjoyed it. Mikey was probably the girls' favorite, and Raph was basically the main dude the guys liked.
One day, Donny will get his shine. Until then, the movie gets a B from me!

I agree with these points -- and I know how you feel. I went into the movie expecting ZOMG THE BEST TMNT MOVIE EVAR, and what I got was something that, fantastic animation aside, was only slightly better than some of the filler episodes from the new 'toon. Ah well.

I gave it a B
The animation was superb.
The fight scenes were phenomenal.
Awesome dialogue.
The voice acting was spot-on.
I believe they captured the Turtles' personalities quite nicely.
Damn, that Raph/Leo fight was so intense (probably should've given it an A just for that ;))
What didn't do it for me:
Don got the shaft. Again. I honestly thought he'd have more to say and do...
I was fully expecting some scenes from the novelization that just didn't materialize
(Ninja Tag, anyone?)
Clearly, a lot of the movie was cut, and I feel it sort of suffers as a result (Warner Bros. has got to relinquish some control over their animation flicks...)
I wish there was more Foot Clan action.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This movie warrants a sequel. Thumbs up for me.

People in my theater cheered in the beginning and end as well. The screaming and clapping was very loud. About on the level of when I saw the new star wars movies a few years back. My theater was very packed also (and was one of the largest ones). I'm not sure if it was sold out, but looking around you could tell it was very close to being sold out. There were some young kids but the crowd was mostly teenagers and people in their 20's like me. Of course this was a showing after 9pm last night. I was afraid the movie wasn't going to be too great but I was exceptionaly surprised. I think all in all, that I would hold this movie in almost as high or regards as the original. Now bring on the sequel...

I've heard from most people a similar reaction: it was very strangely a very enjoyable movie. Everyone in the auditorium applauded at the end, yet it was for one of the WEIRDEST reasons of... I'm running out of ways to say this. I talked with my friends afterwards over a midnight pizza. We were all very surprised at how wonderful the film was -- not because it was TMNT, but because there was no way we could see it coming (the fulfillment).
You've crafted a film worthy of representing its title. Sorry for the erratically written review, but if I spend any longer trying define this movie, I'll go nuts.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I, too, was kind of overwhelmed by the weirdness of this movie ... I mentioned that it was "weird" in my review (don't know where my review went, exactly), and I couldn't really elaborate, because I didn't understand. That movie was out of its freaking mind. It was completely uncategoizable (wonder if that's a word).
From its very ridiculous "epic movie" intro to its really random (beautiful, but random) Central America scene, to the strangely moving and intense family dynamic, to the completely cheesy monster plot (what were they thinking?), to the unusual yet awesome animation ... what on earth was the movie about? What was the point? It's so weird and unique, I expect it will become a cult classic of sorts. I like it better in retrospect (while I was watching it, I couldn't sort out my own emotions), and I think I may have to see it again. Um, today.

the breakfast scene rocked: Leo and Raph staring each other down both pissed off, Raph eating fast and messily while Leo eats slowly and cleanly, all while Don and Mike try like hell to cover up their bandages so Splinter does'nt see.
Leo-"Hothead"
Raph-"Splinter Junior"
Breakfast scene=brilliant
LOL. I did like that scene. Kevin mentioned that the Turtles would have subtle differences, but wow, they really did. From their facial features, to their body masses, from the display of the wrinkled brows to the way they walk. I even noticed Leo was taller than Raph as well. But to even add how differently they chew their food, talk about attention to detail. (Raph eats like my dad, just wanted to mention that! )

Your the first person I see to quote that line in the movie. Glad to see someone else notices it! This line feels like a shout-out to the old fans of the Turtles. Glad we're not forgotten.:D

My theater went nuts during Leo and Raph's introduction. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune of sitting infront of a group of rowdy audience members that were talking every 5-10 minutes. I wanted to move, but the theater was packed. Plus, they laughed really loud, and that was annoying, because they also did it at innaproprate moments, like when we first see Splinter. See, here's the thing, when I saw the film back in febuary, Splinter's introduction got some laughs from the audience as well. Why? Is it because how he talks? Nevertheless, the film was still cool despite being different from the version I sw in febuary. So, I was still able to enjoy the heck out of it.

:tgrin: Well TMNT met all of my expectations. I went to see it with my boyfriend and my nephew today and it was so good. The animation was phenomenal and flawless. The story was not the typical turtles in NYC fighting foot clan. It actually follows one of the stories that occured in the comics that many may not read, (except for us here) but me being a geek.....I know the whole story line.
It followed Raph an Leo very well and I found Mikey's comedic timing to be pleasing. I was surprised however by the no show of shredder but in his place is his daughter Kari. The conflict and the story where the brothers are doing their own thing was good and it was really cool seeing raph and Leo fight it out.
Also I just loved it. I went and bought the TMNT game for Wii so I will be doing that all night long! I had fun and I encourage everyone to see it if you are a turtle lover like me. Don't expect the 80's version, just go in with an open mind. If your looking for a story line that follows closely to the cartoons your in for a surprise. Peter and Kevin really thought this one through and it is simply the best work I have seen. True fans will appreciate this movie. It has been a long time coming but it is so worth the wait.
I LOVE TMNT

I thought it was good; I wasn't crazy about Raph's voice, but I loved the Raph/Leo fight, and the scene after where Raph "confesses" to Splinter. It did have some holes though: why were the monsters in NYC? The end battle was a little too easy/anti-climactic, plus I felt the movie didn't have what in comics is called a "Big Bad." True, that's usually Shredder, but the movie needed one. Overall though, I was really happy with it. Sequel should be awesome (note Shredder's helmet on display in Splinter's room!).

It was defiantly good and the graphics were insane it looked reele nice and it was kewl that kevin smith played the small part of the diner cook. I heard that some was cut wich can relle bug a person but i'll get over it the fights were kewl the conflict between leo and raph was interesting. So I liked it and it was fun seeing with friends but does anyone kno wut the song was called near the end when they fought all the foot ninjas?

Which comic is that? Cos I have pretty much all of the TMNT comics, (only missing a few from the archie series and one from vol 2, perhaps a coupla crossovers) and not once have I came across the storyline from the film. In fact I believe it has been said, by either Peter Laird or Kevin Munroe, that Laird wanted to do an original storyline and not one from the comics...
Other than that I agree with you about the film being amazing! As for the Wii game, I just got a Wii yesterday and had to pick up TMNT, only just completed Donnie's level, its pretty neat!

Egadz. After seeing the movie, I needed a few hours just to take it all in. I'm still mentally digesting it all.
I'm just a sap, I know, but some of the scenes made me literally weep with happiness.
Especially the part where Raph realizes Leo got captured. Some may snicker at it sounding too Darth Vader-esque and risque`, but I thought it quite appropriate. What else would you say in a situation like that? :)

My review (http://www.filmsy.com/reviews/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2007-review/)
It's kinda long, so here's a few chunks:
As a Ninja Turtle fan, I really enjoyed the flick. It had all the plot of a Saturday Morning Cartoon, so don’t go into this expecting all sorts of complex storytelling. Honestly, had the script been shopped to 4Kids Entertainment and not the Weinstein Company, this probably could’ve ended up as an episode of the cartoon series and nobody would’ve noticed. Yet it’s rated PG and it’s a kid’s movie, so really, what else did you expect? As far as being a kid’s movie is concerned, don’t worry, this is far darker and more intelligent than both “Secret of the Ooze” and “TMNT III”. This new film never gets any grittier than the original 1990 TMNT film, but that’s okay by me.
The voice acting is mostly good. There was nothing wrong with any of the actors playing the Turtles, at least nothing I noticed. Sarah Michelle Gellar phones in a rather underwhelming performance as April and her lines are delivered with all the fluidity of a pile of rocks in a tornado. The late and great Mako almost steals the show as Splinter, balancing the stern martial arts sensei with the loving father and throwing in some hilarious character quirks along the way. A terrible shame we’ll never hear him in the role again. Kevin Michael Richardson voices the most prominent of the four generals, General Aquila, and does fine. He’s one of my favorite cartoon voice actors and can sound very villainous when it counts. Patrick Stewart has become quite good at voice acting over the years and plays the sympathetic Max Winters as well as you can imagine. Ziyi Zhang is a bit of an oddity, I must confess. Karai is supposed to be Japanese, but Zhang’s accent is entirely too Chinese sounding. In all likelihood, most Americans won’t be able to tell. And finally Chris Evans delivers a perfectly appropriate performance as the lovable hockey mask-clad vigilante, Casey Jones.
And then there’s the leftovers. Laurence Fishburne, of all people, provides an opening narrative briefly recapping the Turtles’ history as well as the backstory of the villains. Kevin Smith also makes a surprise cameo as the cook at a diner. He actually does a pretty good job. A few more recognizable cartoon voice actors can be spotted throughout the movie if you’re a cartoon buff like me. You’ll notice Jim Cummings as a generic thug who keeps winding up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Billy West also shows up as a news anchorman.

Well, it was great. As I expected, this story served as a reintroduction of the characters to mainstream audiences, and told a small, yet satisfying story. Whilst the trailers boasted of a battle between the Turtles and the Warriors, nothing could be further from the real, emotional core of the story. This was not about Stone Warriors and endless fight scenes, this was the story of two brothers settling their disputes and Rapahel finally learning long sought lessons.
The humour was solid, especially since Casey was the star as far as that was concerned, the only time he was trumped was with Raph being semi-conscious when the Turtles found him, and falling asleep talking to Casey.
The battle between Raph and Leo was the film's highlight, and an extradordinary addition to the TMNT mythology, it's a part of the mythology fans have reinterpreted time and again, and now it's been interpreted on screen
Karai I thought was'nt as wasted as people claim. Her character is arguably more fleshed out in the series, but I thought for the film, and as a heavy, she worked rather well in the context of the story, it balanced her sense of honour and her ever present clear and implied resentment towards the Turtles. Loved her exchanges with the Foot Soldier in the Party Wagon, really brought a human touch to a character who has long become more human in the series.
Yeah, Shredder's coming back sometime, but at least he was implied, not revealed, and the twist with Max NOT being an antagonist, just a wayward, regretful and tormented immortal outcast was quite a nice touch
Arguably one of the best TMNT movies, and a great movie in it's own right. It went full throttle without Shredder, and unlike the third movie, balanced everything out so he did'nt matter.

I saw the film today and loved it. TMNT came out a week early here in the UK which I think was a bad idea as 300 was out the same time. The annoying thing was that there was no sound for the 1st 5 mins of the film about 8 people ran out to tell the staff. Loved the fight scene between Raph and Leo.
I might go see it again next week.
When I was in the queue to get a drink some people behind me (Who were gonna watch 300) said that TMNT should have been like the 80s film and that TMNT shouldn't have been called TMNT

In my theater it was two fold.
One part it was like everyone was in sync. We all laughed at the same parts and all "oo ahhh" at other parts. I couldn't help but notice and it was amusing on it's own.
The second part were the peanut gallery comments coming all around me. I was sitting maybe 4th or 5th row from the screen. (3-4 rows right up front, then an isle, then my row). -- In front of me I could hear little kids talking and pointing out the turtles or stuff. And behind me there was a group of people making half funny jokes about what was happening.
My favorite had to be when Winter's vaporates. "Well that's one multi-billion dollar company down the drain!"

Hm, today I took some friends to it and they didn't like it. I think they thought it had potential, but it was butchered by some of the more unforgivably bad lines ... the worst one probably being (although Nolan did the best he could have with it):
DON: I hate seeing families fight.
RAPH: Unless it's together!
They did seem awed by the Leo/Raph fight, though.

Yes, it did. (I giggled hardest, though). The whole theatre laughed at that.
One of my friends also said that Don's finding ("This has Winter's name written all over it") was too much of a cop-out ... no detective work was really involved. I liked that part, though.

03-24-2007, 04:19 PM
Just saw it and I loved it overall. Here's the breakdown:
**Spoilers** Read at your own risk!!
The Good
1) Lots of action. The fight scenes were intense, violent, and plentiful. I'm glad the action to humor ratio favored action more.
2) Karai and the Foot were awesome in this film. I like the idea of them acting as hired guns while they reorganize to reconquer NYC's underworld.
3) Leo vs. Raph. Best fight scene in the movie and also the most poignant scene in the movie.
4) Casey, Splinter, and heck even April got to kick a little ass too. April and Casey's relationship developing was cool to see as well.
5) The introduction was very cool. Winters and his generals were total badasses and frightening fighters.
6) The subplot of the TMNT needing to come back together as a family. This was foiled very nicely by the not too dis-similar familial problems of Winters and his generals.
7) The Shredder references were cool. I like the fact that he still had a "presence" even after his death. This reminded me of "City At War" a bit.
8) This film was a worthy sequel to the first film. I'm glad they chose to basically ignore films 2 & 3 (but still not contradict them for those of you who enjoyed them).
The Bad
1) Mikey and Don got very little screen time. It's a real shame for Donny because he got very little screen time in the first film too.
2) Winters' "change of heart" was a little sudden. Early in the film while talking to Karai and the Generals he seemed pleased at the opportunity to take over the world with his army of darkness. Then all of sudden he just wants to die in peace? There was very little explanation for this sudden change.
3) The 13 monsters portion of the storyline was pretty nonsensical. Why 13 anyway? They only showed maybe 7 or 8 in the film as it was. I still don't see how destroying the monsters would serve to de-stonify the generals and finally kill Winters.
4) How is it that they couldn't find the biggest, meanest, and most destructive monster for so long? Don't you think someone would've noticed the dinosaur like thing running around destroying the city?
5) It was too short. It flowed well but another 30 minutes would have been awesome. Hopefully they'll release a director's cut DVD (and hopefully they'll do this for the first film as well!).

Alright time to get harsh.
The movie hasn't set right with me. I watched it and I wanted to love it every second but I couldn't. I need to watch it again. I was honestly bored most of the movie. It lacked an epic feel. The last battle felt like nothing. They were fighting hundreds of Foot soldiers and they only show it for a minute.
Don being my favorite turtle the lack of him pissed me off but seeing as how the movie was completely focused on Leo and Raph I can understand but this is a movie not an episode of the TV series. All turtles should have gotten fair screen time.
Alot of stuff was implied, reading those prequels or playing the first 5 levels of the game seemed needed to understand some of the film.
As short as it was it was paced horribly. Some parts really dragged.
The humans, I can't stress how horrid they looked. But I guess I could get used to them.
Splinter's voice was terrible, I had to try hard to understand him half the time. The guy they used in the game was way better.
What was the point of Karai and the Foot? They did not need to be there. For one they were hardly in it. Seemed like they were just tossed in so the TMNT could fight them at the end.
Alright enough bad stuff here's some good.
Loved the animation at some parts. The fight in the rain looked amazing.
Voice acting was great, I wouldn't have changed any voice, except Splinter.
The Leo Raph fight was what I wanted to see. Seeing Leo's asshole side was something I've been waiting for. And I didn't at all expect it in this movie.
While the story lacked substance it got it's point across.
Okay I didn't have to much good to say. Like I said I need to see it again. I seriously over hyped myself for the movie. I went to the first showing on Friday.

Alright well i'm going in a few minutes. Hopefully it will be good...it should because I've kept my expectations low. That and I know very little about the movie...i've stayed away from screenshots and spoilers and only know the basic plotline, so it should be a good time.

Then all of sudden he just wants to die in peace? There was very little explanation for this sudden change.
From what I understood from watching the movie once, he had this change of heart over the course of the last 3000 years. His intention at the beginning was to open the portal to send back the monsters, and to make him-- and the generals-- mortal again. When the generals found out what his intentions were, they decided not to seek out the 13th monster but put a substitute in there instead. They used Leo. Then they turned against Winters, and threw him down, and he ended up at the feet of the turtles. There he explained to them what he intended, because he said immortality is a curse, and he wanted to right the wrong he'd done. So then, they joined forces to complete Winter's mission.
Anyway, I could be off about this, just my take on it... :)
ZariusTwo
03-24-2007, 06:09 PM
Winters HAD no "change of heart", his heart was always in the right place, he just did things the wrong way, and his brothers felt betrayed and used. They had their own schemes and were'nt prepared to die, as Winters knew they would.
Anyone who swallowed the film's illusion of Winters being a villain is an idiot.

saw TMNT late last night, and I honestly enjoyed it more than I thought I would going into it, and I was already expecting a decent film at the least
I'm not gonna write a review because I'm sure you're all gonna see it for yourself if you haven't already
All I'll say is that:
1. Wished it were longer (which is a complement to the film)
2. Wished it had more Donnie and Mike, but for all the Leo stuff it had in it, it was all good stuff, and I gotta say Raph OWNED this film and I didn't mind one bit
But still really had a good time, really felt like I was watching a Turtles movie made by people who know the Turtles well and care about the series, and I would definitely pay to see it again and buy the dvd when it comes out
I'll also add that I had to practically drag 2 people to see it with me who went into it very cynical and came out saying that they had a good time and thought that it wasy visually and stylistically very impressive
If they had been TMNT fans in the first place they certainly would've liked it that much more
So Kudos to Kevin and his staff
and here's hoping that many more people will go see it and make future TMNT projects possible!
p.s. a bit of advice to those who have yet to see it:
TMNT is a fun light-hearted series that certainly doesn't take itself too seriously, so audiences shouldn't either.
If your goal is to disect and critique this movie into pieces then yes you will be able to find things "wrong" with it
But if you're someone who loves the Turtles and just wants to sit down and spend an hour and half in their fun, action-packed world, then there's no way IMO that TMNT doesn't deliver!

This movie gave me everything I was hoping for. I haven't had that much fun with an audience since Snakes on A Plane.
Was the film cheesy? Absolutely, but it never crossed the threshold where fun cheesy became dumb cheesy.
"No sir, I'm not playing hard to get! It's not that kind of phone line!" - I was the only one in the theater who laughed at that.
Pros
The rain fight!
Casey-Raph dynamic
Whenever Donny was on screen, it was awesome.
Mikey seemed to stay in line most of the film
The rain!
Splinter's trophy room
Ninja April (who was yellow)
Cons
Not enough Donny (and he isn't even my favorite)
Splinter's voice, it just didn't do it for me
Splinter didn't do enough buttkickery
The horrible drawing of shredder
No Shredder (I'd settle for Karai shredder!)
The last movie I saw was 300, the fight scenes in TMNT didn't compare.

..Oh, so you're not being objective and are comparing TMNT to a Frank Miller comic? Yeah, that's like putting Richard Lester's Superman II next to the Donner Cut of the film, no chance, but on their own merits, they work just fine in their own way. I saw 300 too, but I did'nt let it's battle sequences deter me from enjoying and admiring what I saw in this movie. What an absoltuety stupid comparison
The Shredder being absent is'nt a con, it allows the film to flow reallisticly and prove it can stand up without him, which it did. Karai is her own person, and I'm glad her indepedence was'nt compromised

Indeed, The Shredder hasn't been the be-all-end-all villian in Mirage continuity since when, the early 90's and the comic is doing pretty good. The TMNT don't need Shredder to have a good movie. Am I alone in liking the fact that Winter's wasn't a "villian" pre say?

I saw TMNT for the second time last night in a packed theatre, and I have to say I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.
If I was to score it out of 5, I'd give it a 3.
I was a little disappointed, but as I wasn't too keen on the monster plot anyway, I wasn't surprised by that.
I agree that the movie did drag a little in places, I was expecting a bit more action between the Turtles and the Foot, and I wish the plot had focused a bit more on Karai and the rebirth of the Footclan.
I think they made the story a little messy by having Max Winters as a 3000 year old immortal.
If he was just a mortal Bill Gates type, who had an obsession with collecting ancient artifacts, who then unwittingly opened a gate to another dimension in current time, unleashing all these creatures upon New York, that might have worked better.
Karai could have joined up with the Turtles, because the monsters threatened her own interests in ruling New York's underworld with a possible new Shredder, and with the monsters defeat, turns against the Turtles setting up the sequel with shredder.
That might have Ironed out a few of the big plot holes, which are painfully obvious.
Still though, if we can get a more Ninja heavy sequel, with more intense fight scenes like Raph and Leo, imagine Leo facing Karai, and all four Turtles against shredder, man that would kick ass.
I really hope we get a sequel.

Yeah, he's tired.

You are not alone sir.

I saw the movie last night and I would give it a B. The characters were all dead on and the animation was much better than I expected (I don't really know why, but I didn't expect it to be very good). The voice acting was great and fight scenes were awesome. My only complaint is the story, as someone else mentioned, there are too many characters and just all around too much stuff for an 80 minute movie. I understand keeping it short for the theatre but I really hope we get an uncut dvd with about 20-30 extra minutes.
I would love to see a sequel with a story from the comics because, as I said, the characters and relationships seemed dead on. It would never happen, but as mentioned… Worms of Maddness would pretty much be the best movie ever. haha… I still like the first movie a bit better, but this definitely blows the other movies out of the water.

hi, I went early to the movie on friday, but they were already sold out for the first showing, so i grabbed tickets to the 2nd showing before that sold out. I'm going to go see the movie again, and re-comment on it, but this is my thought on the movie.
I loved it.
I loved how Mikey called Leo "Fearless Leader" just like this was the old cartoon, and I loved how Raph said "I love being a turtle" like the old movies. That was so cool. I like where the movie went with their family falling apart. I actually think Raph was pissier in this movie than the first one. Which kind of neglects any character development he made in the ending of 1, and 3. But I guess after a few years, he has gotten more mad. However, I wish April stayed in her movie continuity. She wasn't a fighter, she was a news reporter, which I know is based on the old cartoon, and it has been a few yrs since movie 3, so she can learn how to kick ass, but I just wasn't liking it. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the damsel in distress mode, but she didn't have to be THAT good of a fighter so soon. Maybe by Turtles 6:P Also, unless you read the original comics or watch the new cartoon, people aren't going to know who Karai is... I felt like she should have been better introduced to casual fans seeing the film, but I'm mostly fine with how it went. I just slightly feel that. However, what I've been telling my non-turtles fans (for what seems like years) is that I wanted Karai and Leo's feelings for each other to be in the movie. Since I feel that is a really unique aspect to the turtles franchise. I can't think of any other comic book (please note that I only read turtles comics if i'm missing something, sorry) that has the good guy and bad guy love each other.

I completely agree, the Turtles are the most important aspect and besides there are plenty of other decent baddies from the comics and 2K3 cartoon other than Shredder.
I would still like to see him make return though.
Karai could handle leed villian no problem, I just wish that she was introduced as a more deadlier oponent in TMNT, she was lethal in the 2K3 cartoon.

They went for totally realistic with the environment and the Turtles and then the humans, the people who are SUPPOSED to be the realistic anchor looked like they were ripped out of The Incredibles

Yes, Leo and Karai like each other, but in the comics it's more or less platonic, anything else is completly overexaggerated by dumbass 'shippers who want a Turtle to have inter-species intercourse. Well partially.
The cgi humans: ridiculous, awful.
The cgi turtles and generals: just fine.
The environments: great
But, the CGI for the movie was just overall awful. I hated it. Like I said, how do I get into a martial arts movie where nothing is actually taking place or real? The skateboarding scene for example... the beauty of watching real skaters do tricks is they are REALLY doing tricks. Even watching someone do tech deck tricks would be more exciting because there is skill involved, not mouse clicks. I couldn't take it seriously. As far as story goes CGI is fine, but not action. The only things that really are exception are those Yoda moments and Splinter had one for sure.

Saw it tonight and here are my thoughts:
Visuals
I really liked the CGI. Everything looked real nice. The "humans" looked strange(really skinny or really huge), but thats nothing new and it didn't really distract me. I prefer this over live action because the turtles in the old movies were so restricted.
Voice Acting
The turtles were right on. At the beginning I didn't like Leos voice, but as the movie went on I decided I liked it. Casey and April were good as well. I didn't think S.M.G. did a bad job, see sounded like an April. As for Splinter....his voice bothered me throughout, he sound like...I dunno but drunk is a good way to describe it as someone has mentioned. Overall the VA was well done.
Story
I am not really familiar with the comics or this story, but I wasn't to happy with it. I felt the beginning with the "stars aligning" and "immortal man" was real cheesey, it made me cringe. I heard some people kinda sigh at how simple the story was. More foot clan would've been good. I really dont like the monsters either. It's just...i dunno, bad. But I was just glad to see the turtles in theatres. The Leo-Raph parts of the movie were good, but any parts dealing with Winters bored me. Some of the dialouge was embarassing, but I guess that's to be expected. Mikey had some funny moments, but for every funny one he had a real dud.
I really hope for a sequel with less monsters and more ninjas. Hopefully this movie does well enough do warrant one. I went to an 8:15 showing sat. night and it was probably 25% full. But lots of people on here said they've been to sold out shows, so who knows. I would give this movie an 8/10, but if I were to rate it with my TMNT bias aside I would give it a 7/10, maybe 6/10.

As for the immortality story, it was'nt ABOUT Winters being immortal, it's what he was trying to accomplish. This is why people who are criticising the portrayal of Winters should rewatch the movie and THINK for ten flipping minutes, instead of obeying what the trailers show

Look, I was marching with the grand marshall of the doubt parade when it came to the artistic direction they took with the humans. You're totally right-- the humans DON'T look "realistic." But as I watched the movie I came to realize that, in the end, it's for the best! IF they'd made the humans realistic, I promise you that it would change how people see the turtles and the scenery, in a negative way. Contrast is incredibly important in artistic presentation, and the human designs in this flick completed a set of balancing contrasts that tied the whole look together.
And FWIW, they didn't go totally "realistic" with the turtles. Our critic friend Roger Moore kindly points out that they didn't make 'em look more like turtles... with nostrils and beaks and the testudinally correct number of fingers and toes, and a whole lotta other stuff... but then, that's OK with me. Roger Moore hates the Ninja Turtles.

Listen, in the old movies, there are REAL people doing REAL martial arts/stunts/action. They aren't usually hurting each other but they make the illusion they are. Of course that's what a movie is about, making an illusion. You can SEE with your own eyes people doing the moves, so in your imagination you have no reason to believe it isn't actually happening. In a cartoon, where no one is actually doing anything, it works if you need to move the story along but to showcase martial arts or skateboarding skill, it makes no sense. It's like "Why am I supposed to be impressed by some guys skills with a mouse and a computer??"

Then why don't you hate the old series?! It's a CARTOON! Nothing real is happening in it and it was made using a computer as well! Jesus Christ!

This film in life action would cost more money than Titanic. Films go the CGI route because it's not as expensive and you get more bang for your buck. 30 million dollars was the budget. That wouldn't even cover a third of a live action film of this scope.

I think it goes on both ends though peanut sure most of us loved the movie but as well all know be seeing the reviews out there not everyones gonna we're just gonna have to except it.
The best way to stop a flame war from happening in the first place is not to go down the same path as the person that started the fire.
Agreed. Which is a point I brought up earlier this week when several people were flaming for some of the bad early reviews. There is no doubt that's it a two-way street, and certainly, he is entitled to his opinion. No one can say otherwise. It is possible to be civil when relating a less-than-popular opinion, though. Which is where he seems to fail. You say your piece and move on, there's no need to drag it into more and more threads, especially when you know it's not going to do anything but incite flames.

Then why did you ever watch the cartoons, or read the comics? None of that "really" happened now, did it? Same thing.
You're allowed to hate everything that isn't live-action, but that doesn't mean you need to bring this stuff up in every thread. What you're doing now is considered trolling, so I suggest you stop.
What he said!

I never did read the comics.
The cartoons were good to me because of the characters. I can't explain it. When they fought you'd get into it. I think fighting was more of an expression of the story in the cartoon. It just doesn't work for me in the 2K3 series.
Here's the general thought/notion that goes through my mind: In real life when you watch martial arts you enjoy it because it takes actual skill, it's something not everyone can do. Then there are cartoons or movies such as this one that might take a skill based thing like skateboarding, and try to impress the audience, but it just comes off as silly since it's just really some guy at a computer drawing it. Take video games for example. Some like Tekken or Mortal Kombat show the characters doing katas. How is this supposed to impress me?

It wouldn't have cost as much as Titanic. They would have been given a limited budget. Within that limited budget, they would have found creative ways to do things because they don't have access to everything they would have had with CGI or more money. I think that's the kind of movie magic I enjoy.

When I enetered the theater I was a bit worried for the first time about this film, I guess it started to hit when I saw kids in the age range of 4 to 10. I havent been to a film with a age range like that in years so I just felt really out of place, but before you knew it when the movie started none of that even mattered.
Really easy to understand story, you can pretty much picture were it will lead you but thats fine by mean seeing as to all the groups that there trying to hit.
At first I had a hard time believing the nightwatcher was really a good idea but when you start looking at all the emotional depth of these characters it seemed to add something extra to him. The nightwatcher aka Batman seemed to fit perfectly for something like this.
I really liked how the Turtles lives were sperate from the villains plot, at first they didnt go out looking for them like we see in plently of stories they just wound up in it. I was having a hard time with the monsters and just that whole plot line with them, I wasent to into it at first but I did get more into it has the turtles became more involed.
I thought the turtles were handled very well, each one was dead on to how they should be but I was dissappointed in the lack of screen time for Mike and Don but I also understand because of Raph and Leos personilties that they will always tend to hog the screen.
Also towards the end I was really starting to wonder what the hell the foot were in this for any way until Karia deliveres one line of somthing from your past is brewing which to me meant they were in this film just to give new people exposure to old enemies without over using them and also foreshadowing events that might take place in the next film.
Overal I really loved this film, Kevin and his team did a bang up job and I believe they deserve a lot of respect and praise for this film. As of now this is 1 for me out of the TMNT films with the 1st one in second ( I know I must be crazy).

to True man but we don't need to be egging the subject on more and more I'd really hate to see all these threads get closed and it seems to be the way a few are headed.
I hated cgi for a long ass time myself honestly this movie was killer for me with it's touch of amazing details it really helped me get over the fact that I was so angry I'd never get to see karai in live action form.
I always wanted to see city at war done as a live action movie but at this point I'm happy with what Kevin and the crew have done and really hope thats what he's hinting at for the next movie.
And it really does seem anymore Peanut that people around here don't like listening to reason it's pretty annoying.
I remember when Fast Forward started I did only like it honestly because it was turtles now there are some things I do still like mostly the villians designs but anyways you wont see me flaming people for how much they hate it personally I think they look like a bunch of cavemen spouting about on how much the show pisses them off.
It's seriously just a cartoon & nothing to have a heart attack over.

Ok, let's dish out what you've made clear so far
1. You don't read the comics
2. You don't like the modern cartoon
3. You are predjudiced against the "unreallistic" animation of the movie
4. For some reason, you have an ass backwards obsession with skateboarding (which I may add, falls under the "gimmick troll" catergory)
5. You now have a rather flattering sig designed to instigate more trolling, and have actually admited that trolling is a positive trait.

they can ban me for that all I care. As far as I'm concerned double posting = the same post twice. I don't care how far apart a person's two posts are.
I just know I hate it when I've read a post once and then someone edits something in and I miss it because I THOUGHT I had read the post already. I don't think it's fair to myself to write something long and thought provoking and then have everyone miss it just because they had already read the previous unrelated post and i had to edit it into that one.
