and "these new stories from the original series."

The way she worded it was probably in reference to the original Fred Wolf cartoon series. Since that was Nick/Viacom's chief interest from the beginning, according to Dan Berger and others. The Mirage series was never on their radar beyond some relatively cost-free reprints of existing material.

Still, I'd grant that's a bit unintentionally deceptively vague.

Fearing
05-24-2014, 11:21 PM
Ah, that makes more sense financially and as far as hitting the biggest audience I suppose. All the talk in the press release of Kevin and Peter's creation followed by those previous "original series" quotes and this coming from IDW as opposed to Nickelodeon had me thinking they meant the Mirage stuff, but yeah the Fred Wolf series makes more sense.

CyberCubed

Technically we already got two new Mirage stories from IDW, and they were both in the 30th anniversary collection. Eastman and Lawson's stories are canon, as are the Image and Archie ones.

But overall there's no point for IDW to do Mirage-verse stories...unless Kevin wants to do a one-shot special or something, but given the Annual's are for IDW's universe perhaps not.

Fearing
05-25-2014, 12:19 AM
Yeah, I had mentioned that this surprised me a bit. Technically though it was only one "new" story in the 30th collection. That first story in the special by Eastman is a reprint of a story he did for a Hero charity fundraiser comic. At the time it was assumed it was an IDWverse story, but since the 30th anniversary special reprinting of it officially puts it into the Mirage universe your point definitely still stands.

I wish they would, truthfully. Would love to see a Tales Vol. 3 with Dan Berger & Jim Lawson overseeing/doing most of the writing. Get Kev & the regular Mirage staffers on board for pin ups & covers, then get fresh talent for the goodies within, just like both Mirage & IDW have done in the past. There's plenty of room for new stories, lots of past works that could be added to/explained better, and eras that need a bit more content. For example, Tales vol. 2 never addressed the Image era, would love to see some stories set there, as well as more future & childhood stuff. Plus, it would be cool if Tales were done for the Archie & IDW series as well. Just wrap 'em all under the same banner. Hell, I'd even like to see tales that take place in the movieverse, OT, & Next Mutation, even if that sounds strange.

Lawson's stories are canon

That one is debatable. All four turtles are present, Raph isn't a monster, Don isn't miniature, and yet Shadow is in college. She was in high school during the volume 4 story.

Yea, but Raph was only Gameraph for a short period, and about Don, I think they mentoined it somewhere that they will be able to turn him back soon.

Awesome news. Who is it I tell that I've moved house so it gets sent to the correct address? The same thing happened with the final image book finisher (I moved house between paying and it getting sent out). I messaged saying I had moved but got no reply so just went with it, but I never got my copy. My only guess is that it was sent to my old address after my forwarding mail had ended. Kinda gutting to think it's sitting in a rubbish tip somewhere... Is there still copies of that issue available by the way? I keep meaning to reorder it but money is always tight nowadays!

With what I know of the story (which isn't all that much, but still) I would suggest reading the Archie arcs that deal with Cherubae & the turnstone, Farley's Mirage issues, & the issues that deal with the Turtles in their old age. EDIT: Also make sure you're familiar with the Savanti's.

Probably a good idea, though not necessarily required. It's not really as heavily knit into all things as the Image finisher was (going left and right and all that)... though you'll definitely appreciate things more if you do that. Particularly with where and how Savanti himself was left in his last Tales V2 appearance. Maybe TMNT Vol. 1 #44 too for the Lucindra inclusion.

And absolutely -- if you are able -- pick up the Palladium "Transdimensional TMNT." That was kind of the baseline to follow for the basic flow of the story. You'll see what I mean.

Absolutely not... the cost of printing a full run in hardcover would be through the roof. DemonAlukard is just doing a small limited run of hardcovers on his own, out of Russia. As it stands I'm already dropping about $1,500.00 on the printing of the regular, non-hardcover version alone.

The regular version I'm mass-producing are what's called "Perfect Bound" softcovers.

It's a matter of worth to you. Arseniy Dubakov is/was directly involved in the creation of this book just like the last 2 issues of the Image series and Tales, Volume 2 Issue 71. I would consider this a special hardcover printing exclusive to him from Russia. Still at legitimate copy from a legitimate source, just not from the same perfect bound printing most of us will be receiving. The pricing is obviously different as well - we all paid $35 I think? it's been so long I cant remember.

To be clear, DemonAlukard/Arseniy's hardcovers out of Russia is its own thing. I did sign off on the print version of that and he was kind enough to send me my own copy of it, but the only "official" U.S. version that is seeing print imminently is going to be the softcover version.

So the short answer is yes.

Correct. DemonAlukard/Arseniy has been sending me half the profit minus shipping of every hardcover sold, which goes straight into the pool of the rather high cost of printing I'm facing.

The hardcover has different front and back inside cover art that Arseniy did. Also a couple of pages that talk about TMNT #24 and #25 and Tales #71. And a full page promo for "Origin" with a look at the ship (as drawn by Jim Lawson) that Donatello and his crew take off in to go to the center of the universe.

The softcover doesn't have those things. The front and back inside cover art is the Courtland Brugger pieces and there's no ads for anything.

The money has been paid, a proof is being made (an actual copy), and the final print run was 260 copies.

I hope I'm one of the 238. I did re-send my address/paypal information a month ago when we were asked. Knowing that this has a limited print run and Andrew saying there probably won't be a second printing for a long time if ever, it makes you realize this is your one and only chance. And then there's the off-chance your comic can get lost in the mail if it gets accidentally shipped to the wrong address or the post office's incompetence loses it.

I woke up in a cold sweat the other night just thinking about it.

Dude, calm your tits. It's just a fan comic, not instructions for curing cancer!

Mine didn't take long at all. Just pray you're home when the mail man comes, they won't leave it unless you sign for it.

Has anyone received the comic yet? Also, in the future, will it be possible to get a copy?

Yea, until you've got the creator locked in your basement and chained to a wall.

Does that mean that folks can still get an order in if they PM you?

Update: got the physical proof today. Adding one page (don't worry, no additional wait, it's done, this is just something being slipped in by me at the 11th hour -- that I think you'll appreciate -- that doesn't delay anything in any way) to fill in the blank page at the back. I'm told 8 to 10 business days after my thumbs up it will be shipped to me... so that's where we're at. Going to send these in clumps, but it'll all be prioritized by the order of orders, if that makes sense.

While we wait, what is everyone here looking forward to the most?(aside from reading it of course) Is it the actual story, the surprises, the artwork etc...

Given this features the Old-men Mirage Turtles, it sort of acts as a conclusion for the Mirage universe as a whole, so there's that. Considering how Volume 4 never ended, if it never does, at least we have this as sort of closure to the first TMNT universe.

Same here. And the story and artwork of course.

It means that those of us who put in orders first will get our copies first.

Woohoo! I won a hardback auction! Now to wait for its arrival from Russia ...

HC came in a week ago. Ordered on 3/28 and it arrived safely on 4/18, so right around 3 weeks for shipping to the US. Very nice. I love all the different art styles in Odyssey.

I don't know if this has been asked before. I see from the indiegogo site that 5 pages of original art was given as crowd funding perks. Is any available for sale?

I prodded the printing company today. They said it prints on Monday, and it'll ship that Wednesday or Thursday.

Don't worry, I'll post some pics of the box(es?) of books when they arrive so you know I'm not pulling your leg.
