Great news! Will it just have those two episodes, or will it have a few more? I hope it's just not the first two. If it is, I'll wait for a Vol. 1 of the first 13 episodes.

Of course it will have more episodes. I doubt they'd have one DVD with just the premiere on it. Chances are the episodes won't be in order though...:trolleye:
I know it's not likely, but I'd really like Blu-ray releases. It's too good looking to not be watched in HD.

It doesn't matter. Maybe I'll get this before the complete first season is released. Once it is, I'll just keep this for myself and have them all for the whole family. Unless, it could be the other way around. I don't know. I so want to get it on DVD! Maybe Nick should consider having this on Blu-Ray, too.:tgrin:

Uh, why wouldn't they be?
Both the OT and 2003 DVD episodes were in no particular order (most of them anyway)
EDIT: I meant that they wouldn't be in order ON the DVD itself, like if the DVD has, say, the first 5 episodes on it, they might be out of order when all of them are played, just like the OT and 2k3 DVDS

I could see them doing 1 & 2 as an entire episode. Even still that's technically 2 eps right there.

I'm hoping this is more of a set than a first volume thing with only 3 or 4 episodes. If it's that, I hate to say it, but I'll be waiting for a volume set. I can't afford to buy individual volumes for stuff anymore, and my shelf certainly can't handle the space that'd take up.
At the very least though, it IS coming to DVD though, and that has me excited.

I'll wait for the actual DVD specs before getting excited about this. Honestly, if it isn't the first thirteen episodes, I'll be disappointed...so chances are, I'll be disappointed. Though it would be nice to see them actually put out a DVD that makes sense. Mattel is now adding more than five swivel joints to their 3-3/4" action figures, so it wouldn't be the strangest thing to happen these days.
That said, while I'm still very much a DVD kind of guy...I actually wouldn't mind seeing this show available on blu-ray...but only if full season sets were made available...If I'm finally going to be buying blu-ray's, I want to be able to get a complete season in one set.

I've got a bad feeling we're only getting 3 episodes per DVD like the old 4kids DVDs.
As much as I would LOVE a 13-episode half season set...I kinda doubt it for some reason.

Based on the release date It's probably the first half of the season. I don't know why people are fabricating dramatics about it.

If similar cartoon trends are to be followed, I'll definitely be passing on this. I bought the first My Little Pony: FiM DVD a while ago only to have them announce the full season set a few months later. Kinda bummed me out, but being the fan I am, I pre-ordered it too (duh!).
Still, exciting news - especially this soon.

I'll probably get this right away if its indeed 13 episodes...even if I'll eventually double-dip for a blu-ray release.
Of course if the blu-ray comes out at the same time as the DVD version it'd be great. As mentioned this show will look amazing in HD.

Eh, I for one don't really care one way or another about HD or not. Just so long as it's good DVD quality and doesn't look like a bad computer rip or VHS or something, I'm happy.
Based on the release date It's probably the first half of the season. I don't know why people are fabricating dramatics about it.
Didn't think about that, with it being that far away, all thirteen episodes will have aired so it'd be easy for the first half of the season to be on this set. I can't speak for others, but I didn't mean to fabricate drama really - just a little worried about how they might try to milk the releases.
As far as drama goes though - Hey, Nickelodeon. That whole forced letterbox or whatever format that you did on Forever? None of that please.

I'mma hang back until a break-down is released. I mean it's possible that the 1st 1/2 of season 1 will be released together, but doesn't Nick also release multi-episode (3-5 episodes) discs of Spongebob and the like? Money's tight. I'll hold off on Vol. 1 if there's a potential Season 1.1 set later down the road.

It depends if these are serious DVD sets for fans or just a bare-bones releases for children to beg their parents to get when they see it on the shelf.
I'd love to see interviews with the shows creators, the voice actors, etc...but it'll probably be a bare-bones release of just the episodes.

If it contains 13 episodes, I'll purchase this when I can find a discount on a nice copy on eBay. Great to see news of a DVD; special features could come later if they don't, but don't be surprised if there are some given that 4kids included some on their original DVD releases. It can still be 13 episodes since Fast Forward had "Future Shellshock" and "The Day of Awakening". This isn't the VHS era where only a couple episodes fit on a tape. But if they release fewer episodes per disc, its probably to entice customers that there's more of a selection available, and having more volumes with fewer episodes may spur higher sales among more casual fans. Us hardcore fans could easily have a complete season set later on if that happened.

Boxart's probably tentative. However, the MSRP of $15 pretty much ensures that this will be the first 13 episodes. Snag it now for 10!
Gyt Kaliba
11-29-2012, 08:54 AM
I like that cover art, assuming they do stick with that, it works. And you're right, a $15 seems a bit expensive if this was only a couple of episodes. It seems a little cheap for a full $13 episodes though...but they may be trying to keep this cheaper to see how many kids actually buy it for themselves.
Glad to see more info is coming out already though, we should know more about this pretty quick looks like.

Didn't the last cartoon come in those crummy little volumes with just a couple eps? Just like OT in the VHS days.
It's titled, "Rise of the Turtles." It's named after the first ep. My guess is you'll get the two-parter and a couple eps thrown in for good measure. One disc.
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m94lf2b0mo1qaoink.gif
The show is broadcast in HD, it deserves top be released on Blu-ray. If you disagree, you probably don't watch the show in HD. But it's a cartoon, so I certainly won't get my hopes up.

CyberCubed

13 episode sets are the norm for a show that's still airing. A boxset would probably be the same price as the two 13 ep sets anyway.
chrisdude
11-29-2012, 09:15 AM
I'm just saying it's a cartoon. The norm would be to just release a season. But it's not a normal show. Cartoons don't get treated the same way.
Like someone said, earlier, kids will want it. And they won't know or care what episodes or how many are on them. Look in the store and you'll find a hundred little BS cartoon DVDs, that are $10-15, with about an hour's content, because they sell, regardless. :ohwell:

The Series will most likely be released in Volumes with 4 to 5 episodes. Already heard from Paramount Europe that they are most likely to release the show this way because "it's a kids show". But maybe there will be season sets afterwards like they did with The Last Airbender but right now there are no plans...

I'm hoping Nickelodeon will have more common sense than 4Kids and release season boxsets sooner than later.
Hopefully it's not a situation like Power Rangers where they release the second half of a season as a box-set and yet wait ages to release the rest of the first in individual volumes.

demo dvd of tv shows (I have one from a shonen jump magazine with a episode of Hikaru no Go)

I'm just happy it's coming on DVD. Why do we have to complain about this? Can't we just be grateful we're getting this show on DVD? So what if it is fullscreen? It's television, not movies. I don't care what format it will be in as long as I have the episodes I've been enjoying these couple of months. Still, there's bound to be a widescreen version. The Penguins of Madagascar DVD's are widescreen.

I agree 100%. In this day and age, there's no excuse for it. If they went through the trouble to produce the episodes in wide screen, why not present them in their original format? I mean, that would be like going through life being forced to wear blinders, not being able to see what's left and right of you. To each their own. We still have until February 26th. I'm thinking it's because of Dreamworks. Let's just wait and see what happens. I think it's just provisional anyway. It's got to be widescreen.

Well I guess I'll pass on this, shame I got excited.
Fullscreen and possibly only 3-5 eps on disc? So not only do we get an inferior aspect ratio with footage cut off, but again its only a few measly episodes per disc based on the UK info.
Is it really THAT hard for a company to put out competent TMNT DVDs? I swear, we've never had a truly good release out of any of the cartoons so far.

I can deal with fullscreen if I have to (though I'd prefer it to be widescreen since that's how it is on TV, but it wouldn't be the first time I had to make do with a different format - in the reverse actually, from fullscreen to widescreen), that part won't be a dealbreaker for me. But if it's only a few episodes, I'll likely have to hold out until a bigger set is done.

Going off of the fifteen buck SRP, I would have assumed the set would be the first thirteen episodes, but if the Amazon listing's run time is correct, it's no more than five episodes. Hopefully that's incorrect, and it turns out to be the first half of season one.
As for the bit about it being full screen. Considering how little info the Amazon listing has, I wouldn't take that as absolute fact just yet. The little info they have could be wrong for all we know. That and I've been seeing the episodes in full screen anyways, so it wouldn't lessen them for me. However I wouldn't object to the DVD having the widescreen versions of them.

This doesn't matter now since the episode count of the series is so low, but as it continues its going to be the same problem as the 4kids DVDs.
With 26 episode seasons and only 6 per disc we're going to have to collect multiple DVDs again and it'll get ridiculous when we hit Seasons 2 and 3.
The 4kids DVDs are a perfect reminder of how much a disaster this will turn into in time. And we don't even know if it'll get a blu ray release either.

I can understand how this upsets you, but I don't want you to look at Nickelodeon like they're dirtbags.
Honestly, 6 episodes is better than I expected. I thought it was going to be 5. It's possible we'll get the best ones on here. Maybe it will be "Rise of the Turtles" through "Metalhead." That's good enough right now.:tsmile: Or maybe even better: We get "Rise of the Turtles" and some of the selected fan favorites: "New Friend, Old Enemy," "I Think His Name is Baxter Stockman," "Metalhead," and "Never Say Xever" (or the "The Gauntlet").:twink:
Plus, while this show is a hit, it's not a future classic hit like The Last Airbender became. Think about it. The Last Airbender's first DVD's were individual before complete season sets were released (and the show was already ending at that point). So this doesn't completely bother me.
Let's just be glad a DVD is released.:tgrin:

I think 15 bucks is a little too much for just 6 episodes...especially since I have ALL the episodes saved on my DVR anyway. I'll wait until they (hopefully) release a complete season 1 set. Also, that cover art is horrible. They couldn't have used something better?

I know it's provisional, but between it and the other provisional artwork from Amazon, I prefer Amazon's picture. That's all.
And yeah, I'm happy we're getting it on DVD at all, but one does have to be frugal with their money too, you know? It's all about getting the most for your buck.
Also, no offense, but ack at your idea of a 'best of' single. I'd much rather get the episodes in order. It makes for better marathon watching.

Buying dvds is stupid anyway for shows like this.
Just go digital. It's in HD, the correct order and it won't take up shelf space. It's no surprise most companies just sh*t out cartoon dvds. NOBODY buys them, season set or no.

I for one would much rather have a physical product, and the day a product is available in only a digital format, that's when they literally will never get my buy. I really hope I don't live to see the day that physical formats are completely dead.
But yeah, I'm one of those people that much prefers to have a show on my shelf, than on my computer. Then I have a nice case, I can lend it to friends, I can watch it on my TV - way more convenient for me.

All major digital providers can easily be watched a TV in a multitude of ways.
Maybe I'm just one of those people that doesn't want useless clutter all over my house. Good luck waiting for that blu ray release. Adventure Time didn't get one and that show is WAY more popular.

That would require me having the right tech to hook up stuff like that to my TV, or even having a proper internet speed for it. I don't even want to think about how long it would take to download an episode.
I live in Arkansas, man. I'm lucky we have electricity and wheels. And as far as Bluray goes, I don't want that, I'm just hoping for a more comprehensive DVD release with more than 6 episodes. But like I said, if Wal-mart has this, with their price reducing I might just get this anyway.

It's becoming easier and easier. Some new TVs just have the functionality built in.
To outright say that you never ever want everything to go digital is like the guy clutching onto his VHS tapes screaming that DVDs would never catch on.

I'd like to think I'm not that bad about it, but I can't deny there's shades of that in my opinion on it, yeah.
Like I said, I actually like having a physical collection of stuff on my shelf. I can look at it all and think of what a nice little collection it is (and how much money I have spent on it...that's the depressing part).
Now, I do like having my music in a digital format rather than a physical one, because it's easier to put it right onto my MP3 player from there, instead of burning it to the computer and then transferring it.

VHS isn't terrible - the only real problem is that the players can screw up so easily and completely destroy the tapes.
And rewinding can be annoying for the impatient.

I like having a physical collection too. Any movies I'd buy from iTunes I'll probably end up burning to DVD.

Well that just blows...most definitely going to pass on this, and wait for a hopefully inevitable full season set. This should have been at least thirteen episodes. Proves that the dunderheads they put in-charge of putting together these sets have no idea what they're doing. Hopefully this changes in the future...
Also, I very much agree with Gyt Kaliba, having a physical copy of something like this (whether it be a movie, tv show, or even a book), is something I vastly prefer to having just a digital file of said product. Call me old-fashioned or stuck in the past if you want, I'm just not a fan of this push for everything to be digital. I have several VHS tapes that not only work, but still look and sound great (Secret of the Ooze for example).
I'm only 24 and already feel a bit like an old guy yelling at kids to get off his lawn...

I didn't have a problem with VHS back when that was the format we had, but I dunno if I could go back to it now...
At least, not as a format to get new stuff on. I have a lot of old tapes that are just vaguely labeled 'Cartoons' or the like, that I would LOVE to pop into a VCR someday and see what lost gems are on those babies.

So, I know the article said this:
You'll also get 6 behind-the-scenes Animatics (one for each episode), and a Karaoke Music Video for "Learning the Theme Song."
Taken from: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Rise-of-the-Turtles/17814#ixzz2DlPNgSpN
Guys. Those six on the DVD are going to be the ones for the first 6 episodes. How do I know this? Look on iTunes. Each of them are called "The Mutation of a Scene." So it must be the first 6 episodes in order.:tgrin: While it is kind of disappointing that a box set is not going to be released (yet), I'll be glad to get this DVD on the day it is released. In fact, by the time it's released, the price will be down at Target, Wal-Mart, or Best Buy. Which one is lowest is where I'll purchase. I'm sorry. I can't buy them online. They're a lot more expensive on iTunes. HD or no HD. Make way for the rise of the turtles!:tcool:
chrisdude

That's two more episodes than I figured. I still won't buy it because it's not HD.
I love solid state. I love having things on shelves. I still buy my music on CDs. They rip to iTunes in seconds - and POW! iCloud. It's right there on my iPhone. Hardly inconvenient, plus I get the nice case. I have shelves of movies. I love it.
But I'll be DOGGONE if I'm gonna PAY MONEY for a show in a lower quality than I watched it on television. That is unacceptable. This is not 2007. I'd sooner buy the show on iTunes.
TheSkeletonMan939

It's fine to love your VHS tapes and physical media but I'm just saying that the pendulum has begun to swing and physical media is becoming less and less cost effective. It's alittle more obvious when you go to a Best Buy nowadays and the dvd section is like 3 aisles instead of 6 like it was a few years ago. Sooner or later it's going to become the standard. Why fight it?I'm not denying that it's on the way out. And I've had to buy digital exclusives. I just prefer to have the solid medium. And I'm certainly not defending VHS. I happily upgrade to the next medium when the quality exceeds the old medium. Digital download movies do not beat Blu-ray in audio or picture quality. Digital download music does not exceed the audio quality of a CD, and as I said before, there is very little inconvenience in ripping a CD.
There is this new "Mastered for iTunes" thing, but I'm not yet convinced that it's more than a ploy to extend sales rights.
The prices are about the same. The quality is the same (and when it is different, it's the digital that lacks). So it's just a matter personal preference.

Most likely because this is for kids. I have no problem with Nick or any company releasing sample dvds of shows, which this is. This isn't for the fandom or completest, it's for the little kid who may not know what this is or just want one episode.

this franchise was kinda floundering and nick new it had a built-in fandom and endless potential. to just sorta decide to crap out mediocre stuff in the end kinda defeats the purpose of spending so much for it in the first place. they know us hardcores'll be wanting a bells-n-whistle set and that we'll pay for it, so i dont think they'd forego that guaranteed cash-in at all.

Warner Bros.' laziness and general disregard for fans is beyond unacceptable, but they make so much money every day.
Some people will buy anything if it has a TMNT logo stamped on it, or a Star Wars logo or a Harry Potter logo. Besides, kids and casual viewers don't care if there's a better collection on the way. If it's there, they'll buy it. Only big fans of a property will hold off a few years for a better, bigger, collection.
And the majority of TMNT viewers are kids and casual viewers, with a minority of big fans. So there's where all your DVD purchases are coming from.

When I downloaded the HD version of "The Gauntlet" from itunes I noticed a few seconds were cut. It occurred when pigeon Pete was stalking April while she was in the alley with the TMNT. This was her 2nd encounter. He was supposed to pop up on a rooftop in the background and fly down towards her and get shocked by Donnie. Instead, it just cuts to her screaming and Pete gets shocked. No Blu-Ray release annoys me. I probably won't bother picking up the DVD's. Especially if they're full frame. I have them all in saved in HD on my DVR, but would like to get them without commercials. Got an Apple TV for Christmas so I'll probably just get the season pass from iTunes to get them them HD and commercial free in the digital realm.
Blu-Ray has been dubbed the "last physical format" with the move towards digital. And it seems that unless it's top of the Neilson ratings, newly released TV shows (old or new) are the first to fall prey to what will probably become the new standard where the physical format releases will only be in DVD to accomidate those with just legacy hardware in their homes. The rest of us will be forced to obtain this type of media digitally for playback through a digital player of some kind (HTPC, Apple TV, Game System, Smart TV, etc.) if we wish to purchase content in HD.

i was just thinking the same thing. But I'm those type of people that likes to have the actual physical media in my possession. Oh well, times are changing...I don't really mind that much

Going to hold out for a full-season Blu-Ray or DVD release, since (re: the whole digital media argument earlier in the thread) I hate watching TV on a computer and the only online-capable things hooked up to my TV are a Blu-Ray player that requires an ethernet connection and a Wii.
If we finish the season and it doesn't look like we'll be getting a competent physical releas, I'll just download the season on iTues and put it on a flash drive to plug into the Blu-Ray player like the poster above me. I have a feeling this might become something I have to do more often in the future anyway, so ...
Also, also, re: the whole digital media thing, I'm totally down for it. I hate discs taking up space and their fragility (in fact, the life-long aspect of a digital release is one of the most appealing aspects). But I'm not into switching over completely until playing files on your TV is absolutely as easy as popping in a disc (it's sill not), and the presentation is as nice. (Do digital releases typically come with the standard home-release extra featues? Commentary, etc.? I'm honestly ignorant on this.)

It's about even. Even if they did, it wouldn't be worth the money to produce on blu-ray.
It simply would not sell enough copies to justify it. The only people that care about a blu release are adult fans and that's a pretty small minority.

Every children's film gets a BR release, in most cases a combo pack release, so I fail to see why they can't do one of those for their cartoons. DVD has to go away eventually I find it weird its clung on as long as it has.

I find it weird DVD has clung on as long as it has.
Here'e why:
1) Children don't care about film quality.
2) Most adults don't either.
3) Some people think up-converting a DVD is "good enough".
4) Some people just don't want to spend the extra ten bucks.
The reason DVD trumped VHS back when it came out was because DVDs were totally more convenient. No rewinding - there was scene selection now. Plus, VHS players screwed up the tape sometimes - DVD players don't do that. Very few people would have chosen to buy DVDs as opposed to VHS tapes for their improved picture quality - and that's why the DVD is alive and well. Blu-Rays are no different from DVDs except that they look better.

Nothing wrong with this dvd, it's just not going to be very desired among fans who are more informed.
But it's great for parents who want to get their kids something they can put in their PS3 or the family dvd player and play over and over. As a kid I head several TMNT VHS tapes that had only 2 eps on each tape, I believe they were part of a dominos or pizza hut promotion. I played the heck out of those tapes! Even after the eps got so old and I could quote every line I still played them.
So yeah they do serve a purpose. If I had kids I'd just buy the itunes pass (actually, I already did buy it... for myself :p) but the important thing is that there are lots of options, so people have ways to watch the show regardless of what devices and whatnot they own. Some lower income families probably have a cheap dvd player because of how common they are, or maybe they have a dvd player in their kids room because it's a relatively safe device (can't surf the internet on it, can't watch anything unsafe, only the discs the parents provide)

Nick's official website also has 5 episodes up for free, but everytime a new batch of episodes come they delete the older eps off the site. Obviously if all the eps were up for free legally people wouldn't have an incentive to pay for them.

I really hate to be that guy, but those sites are the only way the show can be watched in my region. I've tried everything to get them legally, but they're just not available. It's been over three months since the premier, and I really can't see the point in stopping international fans willing to pay from doing so.

You're right on most accounts. Though BRs do not cost 10 more then DVD. In some cases BRs are equal or cheaper. What killed VHS was they stopped making them. They're getting there with BR. They do those combo packs instead of single disk releases on most films now and make no DVD available unless it's packaged with a BR. TV series don't seem to get that treatment. Still waiting for Avengers EMH to get a US BR release. Don't feel like importing it but I will. Toons look way better in BR. Funny because they broadcast them in HD yet release them on DVD.

And the problem is you can't resell them if you decide you don't want them anymore. Many older games I have difficulty going back to due to outdated gameplay mechanics or graphics and have sold them off. With digital you're stuck with them and can't even make a little bit of money back for them.

The game industry is actively trying to kill the used game business as it is. Oh boy, I don't get 5 bucks back on this game I spent 60 on. Stop everything! Play some Xbox live arcade sometime. I love having a stupid big library of games without the fear of hoarder cave-in.

If I buy the show on the PSNstore or Xbox Live, they're literally stuck on my game consoles and you can't copy them to DVDs. If I buy it on Amazon video similar calamities arise.
The fact that digital media has so many restrictions no matter who you buy it from is also why I don't bother. Meanwhile DVDs and blu-rays work on any player you have, or on PS3, or on PC for that matter.

My problem with digital games is they're locked to your console. No bringing them to a friends house to play without bringing your HD and no lending them to friends either. Video games have been moving closer and closer to removing the in room interaction with fellow players for about a decade now though so I'm not surprised.
As for movies/shows I don't buy digital either. I share my collection with my family and it would be pretty difficult to do so without discs. But I'm also the kind of person who needs a psychical copy of something to feel like I own it. I've lost digital purchases because of stupid things before. I got a new HD and lost games I bought off XBLA. Microsoft told me they couldn't do anything about it.

So it has the first 6 episodes (if counting premier as 2), 6 animatics and 1 karaoke theme song. I have the iTunes season pass (http://itunes.com/tmnt) and it contains all of that plus all the rest of the episodes in season 1 (when they finally air) as well as probably some more bonus videos to come.
Again if you are getting a gift for a child I think this is great. For most of us, I think buying the season on itunes or amazon or some other digital retailer, or simlpy waiting for the entire season on blu-ray is better.
I know some don't like iTunes due to restrictions on what devices you can use to play the content. But it does have some advantages, such as you can actually DOWNLOAD the entire episodes, not only stream them.
The Stryker

Xbox purchases are tied to your account. As long as you keep the same accoubt you can re-download anything you've previously purchased even if it's off the market. I don't know what you did to lose your ish but it's clearly not a regular situation. I once logged in on an xbox that wasn't mine on an xbox in miami. Downloaded a game that I owned and was playing it with a room of people in 5 minutes.
Of course there are weird restrictions and issues but as it becomes the norm it'll become easier and easier. Most stuff now is really just behind a log-in screen and more and more TVs are coming with that stuff built in.
Don't expect to be able to burn stuff onto a dvd though. Because that just defeats the entire purpose.

You agree to the terms of whatever format when you buy it. But note there is a difference in the rules between downloadable games and videos. At least on PSN.
PSN actually doesn't allow you to re-download videos the way it does games, because of licensing reasons, and I wouldn't be surprised if XBox was the same way. When my PS3 yellow-lighted and died, I had to go speak to management on the phone to find someone who would restore my one movie purchase. And even he made it clear that it wasn't their policy.

How is this at all the case? Not only can you simply plug your laptop/desktop into a TV with HDMI to watch whatever you want on your screen, you also have the option of an Apple TV where iTunes is concerned. It's a little box that costs under $100 and streams all of your purchased content to your TV. In no way, shape, or form does downloading a show on iTunes restrict you from using it on a TV.
I can see buying stuff on iTunes and being restricted to watching it on your computer as an issue to someone stuck in the year 2000, but there comes a point where someones inability to keep up with years old technology can no longer be used as the basis for complaints.
I've been downloading and watching all the HD episodes of Turtles the day they air, on my television and it's a dream situation, especially for someone who can't sit around all morning and watch cartoons.
And to be clear, I'm not saying that digital distribution is the one and only God of media. I'd much rather own a nice physical copy of something I genuinely love, but so few of these shows ever got the proper BD release they deserve. I'd rather own the entire show digitally in HD than own an SD physical copy.
PSN actually doesn't allow you to re-download videos the way it does games, because of licensing reasons, and I wouldn't be surprised if XBox was the same way. Microsoft has a pretty polished, if not entirely pointless, media delivery service with the Zune marketplace, so video downloads work in the exact same manner as game downloads. Sony's attempts at digital video distribution aren't quite up to snuff in that specific case, unfortunately.

A definite buy for my little ones for sure. (...and myself)
I would be willing to purchase a blu ray version of it, but from our library of cartoon media, it doesn't look like many are released on blu ray (my preferred choice) for cartoon series. If there was a candidate for a blu ray release, a HD CG cartoon would make sense. I just hate the fact that DVD is only 480p and although only picky visual people will nitpick, I still prefer to at least get the same quality as the original TV broadcast.
Anyone know the cost difference in production for DVD vs Blu ray, when the source material is already there?
From articles I've read, the cost isn't a huge difference in production, especially when blu rays sell for $5 and sometimes more than the same medium on DVD. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't read about it in a while after I purchase our blu ray writer.

I was reading around and noticed Archer has blu-ray season sets...

This is on FX not Nick but still, maybe there is a glimmer of hope that they will do blu-ray when the full season is ready for release. We could try to petition Nick, anyone know the best way to do this?
Simpsons is also on blu-ray... but again, not many cartoon (even cgi cartoon) shows are... it seems to depend on if there is a teen/adult following, probably because they are more willing to spend extra on it, whereas on kid shows, it is seen as disposable and not worth the extra for the quality.

The DVD is also coming out in The Netherlands on June 19th.
Amazon UK says the DVD will come with a bandana.

I notice several DVD reviews are already online, but took awhile to find a detailed review (http://j-entonline.com/blu-ray-dvd-reviews/dvd-reviews-film-tv/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-rise-of-the-turtles-a-j-ent-dvd-review/).
Unfortunately it looks like they have cropped the video to full screen, and learned nothing from the numerous complaints about the DVD release of Turtles Forever.
The DVD release in the UK is listed at widescreen at Amazon (UK), and I expect the DVD release in Australia will be widescreen too. But that doesn't help people in the USA, unless they import.

If there is only one bidder, you could get this DVD on eBay for just $8.99 including shipping. That said, these sets appear more to the casuals/parents than the diehards, and it looks like full season sets will be released either in the future or as part of a complete series package way down the road, if that even happens. The "Mutation of a Scene" features however isthe primary draw of this release that is a good tool to learn how the animation process works.

A man can dream, but I want a Blu-ray of the first Season with commentary on each episode, featurettes on each characters, and tons of concept art and...I am never getting that. Ever. But I wish!

Cropped to full screen... in 2013? Hey Nick we're not living in 1987 anymore! Yeah that is an outrage. Glad I'm with iTunes.

as it stands now, even though I own both "seasons" on iTunes in HD, if they released in on blu-ray I would prooobably rebuy just to have it on disc.
But if they had commentary tracks or other unique features (other than mutation of a scene stuff... those are included on itunes already), i would not hesitate to rebuy. I'd also buy a copy for my buddy who has kids. I know they'd love it.

Fullscreen DVD is a massive ewwwwwwwwww. Talk about torpedoing my hype I'll hold out for Widescreen and HD for sure. 18 mins of featurettes is pretty awesome though. So special features do exist!

I feel like the Nick Home Video team has been instructed to middle-finger TMNT fans with this release (and Turtles Forever).

Just saw a commercial for the DVD yesterday on Nickelodeon. Apparently it comes with a free poster.

So what do you guys think volume 2 is gonna be titled? I'd probably go with "Enter The Shredder", which was The Gauntlet's alternate title.

You'll probably be able to get the season sets for less than 20 on Amazon when they come out.

I can't see any reason to buy this DVD:
- The whole show is free to watch online depending where you look
- The series will probably be re-released numerous times, either on DVD or blu-ray as a full season set.
This isn't like the original toon where we had very few options to watch the series until we got the DVDs.

Not to mention actually physically owning the show. I'd much rather own an actual DVD than relying on online whatever.

I need HD version only. It's made to be seen in it's full high definition detail.
Release the blu ray version asap, Nick.
