There's no argument that can be made to justify these designs both their hulking anatomies and human-esque faces and their silly apparel that can't be countered with a just as valid if not moreso argument. Ultimately it's just a circular argument.

When you boil it down the question should be is whether these designs are aesthetically pleasing, do they hit the eye right, do they work - at least enough to justify majorly ditching designs that have worked very well across multiple media for several decades? The answer is no.

They are ugly, they are over-the-top, it's what a bunch if old men think will click with kids but ultimately wont.

I feel I've previously come up with with very valid reasons why these designs arn't realistic or why it's unnessary to go so over the top in both their designs and attempt to make every turtle visually distinct...and less said about the notion that this is practical in any way the better but it's useless me repeating that again. Let's just boil it down to me saying I feel like it's stupid.

I like the new designs I don't believe there stupid I just think they are an excuse for lack of character development they look how there suppose to act so you don't have to actually go into that in the movie.

Very interesting thought. You might be right. Still dislike the designs though.

The designs could have been a lot worse. Are they the greatest? Definitely not, but I can't say I dislike them. They're not the turtles I grew up with but they are an interesting interpretation of them. I was expecting something a lot worse than this for sure.

I'm trying to be optimistic with this film so I'm saving all bashing and criticism until I see them in motion. There is only so much we can complain about from a poster (pretty much everything has been exhausted in this thread already so I won't go into it) so best to sit back and wait until we're given something else to go on.

These are way worse than I thought they would be. The only reason people think these are decent now and could be worse is because we saw the terrible costume first so nothing could be worse. A big contributing factor to that thinking at least.

I'll agree with that. But only partially. For me, the costume did set off a lot of alarms but everything that was announced or said about the film before any kind of photos surfaced did this. Seeing the designs, my skepticism dissipated some. With all the re-imagining that was being said to be happening (i.e. Shreddar is a white man now, turtles were gonna be aliens, etc) it was obvious things were gonna be different. And cause there were so many liberties being taken within the film, I was expecting designs of turtles that were WAY different and worse.

Like I said, this is just my personal take on it. From the poster, the turtles don't look as bad as I thought they would. To give my final opinion on their design, I wanna see these designs in motion first. Just trying to be optimistic until I see something official and more substantial than a a poster or set photo designs.

The property deserves a lot better than that.

I love the designs i personally don't think they look to large seeing as we haven't seen them with any contrast to show how large they actually art for all we know thy could shrink them down quite a bit or blow them up making then even larger.

ANd i just don't see there size being all that different from the 2k size (besides height) thy were very large and didn't really look like teenagers in fact the only versions that really seen like young teens are the new nick show. Not that i really care either way.

Im glad that the turtles aren't aliens. IM awaiting to see how shredder turn out seeing as hes has been played by many different races and if he plays the crap out of the character the who's to say he should or should have played the character

It does deserve more than that, but what else can we do except be optimistic? I'm just waiting for something better to go off before I ask for Bay's head on a stick. So yes, its sad that "could be worse" is what we have to resort to, but it is the absolute truth. They look like tmnt, they are recognizable. What more could we ask for a design?

Like I said, until we see a trailer or get more substantial, official details from the movie, we really can't gripe a lot.

I'm hoping for the best, and the design is the most positive thing I've really seen since it was announced other than the alien origin being dropped.

Except that's how discussion forums work, until something more is said, we stretch thin that which we already know and are aware of.
I mean, how many topics are running on the movie and aren't they all, basically, about the look of the Turtles?
It's all we got to go off and people will continue to stretch that butter thinner until they get something new to work on.

Voice acting isn't the same as actually turning Shredder into a white guy, and Nash was stand-in with a mask that concealed his face as he played Super Shredder. We where always given the illusion that Shredder/Oroku Saki was Japanese, even Ch'rell's alter ego was a Japanese man named Oroku Saki.

This is the first time Shredder is something else then a Japanese man named Oroku Saki/Sawaki (again Ch'rell's alter ego was Oroku Saki who's alter ego was The Shredder)

Every time we saw Live-Action Shredder's face or what was visible through his mask he was of Asian decent.

TMNT: James Saito
TMNT II SOTO: François Chau
NTNM: Patric Pon

But, this isn't Oroku Saki anymore. we get Eric Sachs, villain gentleman and Metal Gear Rising cosplayer.

WHAT??? All im saying is many properties that have done fairly well in the past Were judge scrutinized and picked to peaces before their release, And yet These movies turned out great.

taste is subjective. just because you may like something, or it is a blockbuster to the lowest common denominator doesn't mean that it is great.

there are plenty of films that are still reviled for their onscreen depictions of popular characters...not to mention their horrible scripts.

i LOATHE the Michael Bay Transformers films. i didn't like the designs, or the script of the original, and i felt insulted by what i watched onscreen as a Transformers fan.

i'm a bigger fan of G.I.Joe than i am of TF or TMNT (as per my avatar) and the G.I.Joe films are HORRIBLE! The first film is unwatchable, i can't get past the scene with the PS2 era CGI plane flying over the desert.

the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot was just awful. the look of freddy, the script, and the acting were painful to slog through.

I recently saw the Friday the 13th reboot.....Jason is my favorite schlocky movie slasher. While it's hard to muck up such a simple design as a big dude in a hockey mask, the rest of that film was just bad.

the Texas Chainsaw films of recent are AWFUL! the tension is fake and the jump scares are predictable. there were bigger plotholes in them that you could drive a peterbuilt semi through.

we can go classic, too. Masters of the Universe, Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros.....if the internet was as available to everyone back then as it is today, people would be just was upset about how those films were coming together.

just because you think Mudflaps and Skids are funny, doesn't mean everyone else thinks those movies are "great".

my main problem with this "movie poster" design and the designs with the turtles is beyond the bulky shells and lips. it's that there is no subtlety with the designs. everything the turtles are wearing screams "platinum dunes" in the worst way.

the personas here are hamfistedly pounded into our eyesockets. there is no depth to the characters, even though a lot of people know the characteristics of the turtles. a better story writer could reveal that Don is a techie and into inventing things without making him look like the Borg.....y'know, the way that the franchise has done since Fred Wolf.

what is really scary is knowing the studio that is holding the reigns to this film, and how they have no problem with insulting racial stereotypes and poor attempts at "comedy".

i, personally think the franchise deserves better than "the Dunes" treatment....30+ years have proven that there are great stories in the Turtle-verse (as well as some clunkers).

taste is subjective. just because you may like something, or it is a blockbuster to the lowest common denominator doesn't mean that it is great. IM talking about many other movies, Fans tore Ironman apart before it was released and no love it as a film spider-man was picked to pieces and was a great film. And im not saying it cant go the other way some movie are hailed until they are released and seen and fans come to find it was less then worthy of their praise. But in order to judge those things correctly you have to view them for your self.

there are plenty of films that are still reviled for their onscreen depictions of popular characters...not to mention their horrible scripts.IM not saying there aren't.

i LOATHE the Michael Bay Transformers films. i didn't like the designs, or the script of the original, and i felt insulted by what i watched onscreen as a Transformers fan.I really don't get so people thoughts on these movies really what were you expecting from fighting robots???
I am a huge transformers Fan have been since i was little, but really there isn't much to transformers it was a show for kinds for them to see fighting robots and that was about it. Now i understand there are some long running stories but a lot of episode were just filler fights and that's about it Good vz Evil. There were certain stories told that where very well done with an amazing story being told and they had a great movie made but those were kind of exceptions. But that's the kind of show it was. that and all the moral stuff to teach kids lessons. but its not award winning stuff
I loved all the transformers movies for what they were.
Personally i love their designs minus a couple things like Optimus's mouth that's kind of odd but even before he was Optimus Prime he had a mouth

i'm a bigger fan of G.I.Joe than i am of TF or TMNT (as per my avatar) and the G.I.Joe films are HORRIBLE! The first film is unwatchable, i can't get past the scene with the PS2 era CGI plane flying over the desert.I agree the first film wasn't what i was expecting but i still enjoyed it I love the second one the Battle with storm shadow and snake eyes that honored silent interlude was amazing

the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot was just awful. the look of freddy, the script, and the acting were painful to slog through.

Im Not much of a horror film kinda guy to much excessive blood and bad language like that will make a horror better. I agree older horror movies were better but still not much into them

we can go classic, too. Masters of the Universe, Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros.....if the internet was as available to everyone back then as it is today, people would be just was upset about how those films were coming together.Haven't seen masters of the universe as for the other two the video game movies there hasn't been a very good video game adaptation go judge what a good video game movie should be like so yeah

just because you think Mudflaps and Skids are funny, doesn't mean everyone else thinks those movies are "great". I kind of take offense to this. If there was one thing i actually 100% disliked about the movie was a racial stereo typing of those to and also the contructabots balls that was totally unnecessary and inappropriate

What about movies that are critically claimed as great movies, but then I watch them and think they are utter crap? Two come to mind, Shakespeare in love and Drive. The latter movie I was so disappointed in. The trailers, the reviews, all set this up to be some great movie, and it started out so good, then the chick and her kid showed up and brought the movie to a screeching halt. I won't even get started on Shakespeare, and I thought Gweneth's acting in that was atrocious (but, she won an oscar for it so I must be the one that is an idiot, like oscars don't take bribes and use politics to pick their winners)

Like I get it, I like Ghostbusters because I remember it as a child and it was funny and had ghosts and all those cool tech and HEY BILL MURRAY and whatever. But nostalgia aside, calling it the "greatest piece of cinema ever filmed" seems a bit of a hyperbole. Well, ok, a huge hyperbole.

Then again we're all on a forum dedicated to what is fundamentally a huge chunk of nostalgia, so maybe pointing all of this out is sort of like pissing in the ocean.

I don't think that's because of nostalgia goggles, going in details into the first TMNT movie, there's a lot of scenes right out of the comics that being used to create its own story. Very few comic book movies have done that as well as TMNT.

And Ghostbusters are amazing movies, and I am sadden I never got to see them as a kid, something I made sure didn't happen with my kid brothers and they loved both films.

Agreed; rewatching it after not having seen it for years, it definitely still holds up as one of the best comic book adaptations. Is it corny sometimes? Sure. Was it a better TMNT movie than it realistically should have been considering the license was at the peek of its popularity? Definitely. Looking back, it amazes me that this movie even turned out the way it did.

I don't disagree MultiNumberedRaph, but I don't think THIS is it.

The one thing that I think makes the Barron TMNT movie work so well was its surprising amount of subtlety. There are a lot of times where that movie says volumes with a single line of dialogue or an action. It certainly live up to the movie mantra, "Show, don't tell." This movie seems to be telling us an awful lot, and oddly enough it's by...um...showing us. Weird.

I'm willing to give this movie a fair shake. I'm not going to condemn it just because it has names attached to it that people don't like. I happen to like most of Bay and Liebesman's movies. They are popcorn flicks....not meant to earn the academy awards or anything like that. Sure they can have spotty writing here and there but they are not the worst things on the market

Why must everyone who dislikes all the elements we've seen so far and has a reasonable apprehension about how good this film will be based on all of that still all boiled down to, "You hate Michael Bay, don't you?"

I don't want an Academy Award winning Turtle movie, but the 90's film did show you how to do a lot of things right to make a decent and very profitable Turtles movie.

I heard they were taking a lot from the original movie and cartoon. I'm ok with that. I want to see a trailer before I say whether or not I think the movie will suck. All we've seen are designs. Dislike the designs, including the para-military style Foot.
Dislike a lot of the casting choices.
Dislike some of the choice of characters, like Vernon, really? Vernon.
Disliked most of the leaked script, which might have been scrapped, but this is Hollywood, they never throw any idea away completely, no matter how bad.
Disliked the other movies Bay made in this vein. Don't hate Bay and I'm not one of those "He raped my childhood!!" kind of guys (because my childhood is alive and well in my memories and on DVD) but what he did to Transformers, despite making big money, was not good.
Don't trust the inexperience of Liebesman. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, like I'm sure many were about Barron, but as of right now he's done what, 5 movies...and many agree they ain't great.

There's more to make me a little apprehensive about this film than just the character designs.

I get the feeling you don't watch many movies.

Then again we're all on a forum dedicated to what is fundamentally a huge chunk of nostalgia, so maybe pointing all of this out is sort of like pissing in the ocean.

maybe you missed the parts of my past few posts where I'm reiterating that "taste is subjective".

You can't know how many movies I watch or the breadth of cinema I've experienced based off some postings on an interwebs forum about kids' toys and comics. That's quite the ad hominem for me simply stating my personal opinion.

Something tells me he didn't.

No need to speculate. Alan Ritchson (despite earlier comments claiming to be a big fan) has publicly stated he didn't watch any of the previous shows, movies or read the comics as research as he felt it was unnecessary.

Indeed all of the actors that have publicly commented about the movie have made a point to say that they haven't looked into previous versions and seem to treat the idea as absurd which is...shocking. With movies of this type usually actors and creative staff fall over themselves to say how they've read all the comics and looked into previous versions if for no other reason than to ingratiate themselves with fans and assure them they arn't going to screw up the characters - but these guys are doing the opposite.

In the case of William Fichtner and Arnett it probably really isn't necessary as we know their characters are essentially new characters just with names of pre-existing ones but it doesn't bode well for any of the other characters if you ask me.

This is also not true I have been looking all over for interview and info pretaining to this excat thing and have found not proof. Also

"The assumptions, everything you read online is wrong." Alan Ritchson.

They have never said that they haven't looked into previous incarnation they have said up until the point of being hired they hadn't. Which happens all the time. "It always had sort of a bouncy cartoon feel to me, which is great, that's why it was appealing," he said in an interview with Flicks and the City. "That's not this movie....It's not like any Mutant NInja Turtles thing you've ever seen before. It's freaky, they're cool, and they're mutants and they look awesome. It's tough and it's going to be really, really great."

"Well I play a guy named Eric Sachs and we find out that Eric Sachs is somebody else too. I can't give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His connection and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the backstory, which comes out in this film, is really intriguing...We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome." William Fichtner

Sure never seen the Original show or movies in order to make the comparison that "Its always had a Bouncy cartoon Feel" but you know just saying.

Actors don’t have to research roles at all, TBH. Particularly roles that have typically had so many versions to draw inspiration from. Their only source, more or less, should be the script. They could research their characters if they want, but I’m sure it’s neither a condition nor a necessity. Fans have a particularly harder time than others understanding that. What would be the point of William Fichtner "researching" Shredder, when he's pretty much playing a new version of the character. Toby Maguire, for example, went on record saying that he knew next to nothing about Spider-Man when he was cast in the first film.

I do agree that the screenwriter(s) and director should definitely do research beforehand and during. But actors? No. Not needed. I'm sure some would just use Ritchson's very honest admission as an excuse to bemoan further about something they know nothing about (actors apparently needing to research roles).

It actually was kind of bad really. The movies were good and tobeys an ok enough actor but if I had to tell you what kind of character peter parker/spider-man is based on his performance id say he was an overwhelmed sometimes depressed stoic silent type. Yes its true that sometimes peter can be overwhelmed and down on himself but most of the timehe's a pretty happy go lucky guy with a quick wit and great sense of humor. Say what you want about the amazing spiderman but at least it got spidey right. Maybe maguire would've benefitted from doing some research.

But I guess we know sort of what kind of Raph we'll get in this movie. The one dimensional hotheaded brooder. Maybe the scrip haves Raph more nuanced, but I doubt it seeing the turtles carries they're bare basic archetype on their costumes.

So I had everything that I needed to create that character there. So I didn’t actually rely so heavily on somebody else’s perspective of Raphael twenty years ago, which to be honest like many of the cartoons like, this dude is smiling a lot. Hes talking about how the previous Versions looked all the same they obviously don't look the same even WITHOUT the clothing so your turning his word into something they aren't

And why create a character and then talk about individualization if they're just going to be doing it visual that doesn't take any work on his part.

Of all the turtles, Raph is the most different from the most recognized versions. Fred Wolf Raph is snarky and a comedian, 1990 Raph had a more act first ask later attitude with a anger issue, 4Kids Raph was a mental hothead acting out in fury quickly.

The interview As a whole regarding TMNT wasn't very impressive, seemingly no interest of researching his character cause he "already know" Raph and he'll do fine cause he played a comic character before. By all means, Alan don't need to do any research, if the director and the script is strong enough most of the work is already done for him. And all he needs to do is recite his lines and look good doing it add some charm like good actors do.

That's what seperates good actors from great actors. Great actors from legendary actors. You care about what you do? Research the role, the character so you can be the best damn version of them! I know it's not a necessity for the actor but great actors, legendary actors BECOME that character. Heath ledger WAS the joker. Shia lebeouf took acid and filmed himself acting. Did what he could so he could play Charlie countrymen correctly. It's that extra mile that separates you and makes a huge difference in overall product. A great actor can shine in the worst of movies.

Here's the link to the interview for people to read themselves unedited.

Wrong i was just going to ignore your post but people on this forum are so quick to assuming no one on this production as and investment in this franchise other then Pure greed for their paycheck. He never said he didn't Watch the show or movie he said and I quote Alan Ritchson

He mentions the comics specifically seemingly because he was talking about bringing a previous comic book character to life. I don't think many would come a way from that interview thinking he was more than vaguely aware of other media of the TMNT.

That may or may not be a bad thing depending on your view but considering that he had claimed to be a fan and gave the impression he read the comics and watched the movies and TV show it is kind of irksome to read this.

He just felt he didn't have to read the comics there are plenty other sources he could have used a research. And he even said i hope im not offending anyone.

That wasn't what he was saying at all in the interview. The point he's trying to make is that "everyone" knows that Raphael is the hot headed one of the group there's no need to delve into why other versions portrayed that.

His interview betrays that he hasn't seen much of the other versions or intends to. Obviously Raph wasn't a hothead in the '80s animated series, the turtles weren't overly smiley in the movies to its credit each version has portrayed each turtle with as being very different to the other I highly doubt this movie will portray that better beyond their designs. Also no version of TMNT that the titular characters have ever an overriding of sense "abandonment or betrayal".

Now I'm not blaming Richson - or indeed any of the actors for not bothering to do any research. I'm sure the concepts of TMNT sound like complete nonsense to them and I doubt the script requires them to really delve into their characters. In that sense it sounds like Richson at least is putting more thought into this version of Raphael that it deserves but in an era were Hollywood is getting writers and directors and actors delving into the rich history of franchises and putting care and consideration on how they are reinterpreted on the big screen it's a bit sad that we're getting "well it's got sewers and pizza" - it's TMNT.

"The assumptions, everything you read online is wrong."
Alan Ritchson.

Ah but it wasn't wrong was it?

The turtles were going to be aliens, Shredder was going to be a yellow alien masquerading as military General called Schrader.

I appreciate that this may have changed by the time he became involved and that he may be talking about the general feeling that this movie will end up being terrible and an unfaithful representation of the franchise. I'm sure he feels differently but based on the above he's not the best one to judge.

.these projects stay in development for a long time. Therefore different drafts are written, where people (writers) go in different directions and sometimes stray from the source material. I'm a massive fan of the Ninja Turtles: I had all the toys, I watched all the cartoons all the time when I was a kid. Evan Daugherty Screen writer for tmnt.

Richson claimed in a red carpet interview that he was a fan that had read all the comics and watch the shows and so on and then it turned out he wasn't such a big after all so I'm not too accepting of someone else saying that.

He also seems to be working from memory as opposed to doing any research. Certainly the existence of Eric Sachs character seems to be a very big and important deviation. Then again the only concrete thing stated about this movie and how it stays faithful to the mythology is that it has pizza and sewers.

“Look, it’s so funny—if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. Right now, I’m with the characters because those are what attracted me to the movie. They’re the best characters I’ll have had a chance to deal with.”
Jonathan Liebesman

Sure doesn't sound like he knows anything about tmnt.

I remember when this quote came out and finding it unintentionally funny.

I guess he wasn't aware that by that point Michael Bay had publicly confirmed that the turtles were going to be aliens but was being rewritten and here was Liebesman as good as saying that it wasn't true and it was always supposed to be the ooze - we'd just jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Also the rest of the comments aren't too dissimilar to what the designer of the turtles recently made about how the designs are based on Eastman and Laird's designs and I think we can all agree those aren't really Kevin and Peter's designs.

Sure never seen the Original show or movies in order to make the comparison that "Its always had a Bouncy cartoon Feel" but you know just saying.

You're reaching with this. He doesn't have more than a vague recollection of stuff he glanced at decades ago - his most clear memory of the TMNT is their bath tub toys.

Not that he has to have any knowledge of any prior version given he's playing a very new very different character than has been featured in TMNT.

As for Will Arnett How is his character that much different beside not being scared all the time and work with instead against her. He always was the Camera Guy, he always was there for comedy.Ireally don't see much of a difference in character and especially not from a couple interviews and photo of the set

I'd say not being a coward and not being in competition with April are pretty big deviations for Vernon's character - that was pretty much Vernon in a nutshell. Also being something of an action ready guy is another big deviation.

It's strikes me if they were canny they could argue that this version of Vernon is based on how he was characterized in the first few episodes of the Fred Wolf show were he was no more a coward than the other Channel 6 crew and somwhat supportive of April but obviously neither he or the creative staff are aware of that. Arnett himself has stated his character is very different from the one found in the comics...well Vernon wasn't in any of the comics but Arnett doesn't need to know that.

Im just saying #1 Not all people working on a film have to be fan of the franchise 100% it cant work that way some people just aren't in that demographic. This doesn't mean they cant perform well and make a great movie. Look at the original Spiderman trilogy Man of the people who worked on that were not fans. As I said above Tobby refuses to read the comics, does that mean his performance is bad? No

I'm not saying they do have to be fans or have any kind of reverence for the source material but these guys have none. What few concessions they've made is seemingly at the behest of Viacom because of the media backlash to their original movie.

Tobey Mcguire never struck me as a good Peter Parker. Sam Raimi was of a fan the silver-age era Spider-Man and that shows but he wasn't a fan of Venom but not only did the studio pushed for that character in the third movie and the fans loved the idea so he did it to please them and it turned out to be terrible.

Since then we've had a wave of comic book movies that do translate quite faithfully from print to screen with actors and directors that have delved into the franchise history and I think they've been very successful because of that. The alterations are mostly either well thought out or understandable - not all but most. TMNT is sadly not going to be on that level.

Shredder is a Japanese man named Oroku Saki. And not a middle aged white guy named Eric Sachs.

Isn't that HILARIOUS?

I don't get the fuss with Ritchson researching Raphael. I think he makes a fine case for essentially starting from scratch.

He’s known as the angry hothead of the group. He is quick tempered and is quick to act. He is less thoughtful of people’s feelings and emotions and consequences.

That's pretty much everything about the character that has persisted through the years. The turtles are archetypes that have been taken in so many different directions that there's hardly barely anything nailed down. He could research the "source material." But what is that, anyway? The original comics? Or the cartoons and movies that his viewers have actually seen, but are all way different? I feel that if there is ever an acceptable instance in which to build on the framework of a character, TMNT is it.

How do you get that I just get how you can assume that he has now idea about the Turtles other then so basic common knowledge base on what he is saying. To me all the evidence is there. Plus in a red carpet interview he says he “grew up with the turtles” meaning he was most likely a fan of the TV show and Movies.

That wasn't what he was saying at all in the interview. The point he's trying to make is that "everyone" knows that Raphael is the hot headed one of the group there's no need to delve into why other versions portrayed that. . He did say that But in a interview he did say he grew up with the turtles, how can you do that not have a vague idea of who they Are I grew up with the turtle and by that I mean I watch then bought them wish I was one, and I have been a fan for a long time. That what he said in the interview.

Also no version has ever had the turtles with overriding of "abandonment or betrayal".I do not see how you can make that assumption. To me it says hey there have been multiple version I have seen multiple versions on one hand we know that the turtle and cartoony and smiley on the other hand like the movie Raph is dark and more aggressive.
Again I just don’t see ANY evidence to back up anything of what you are saying what so ever. To me it seems you want to believe what you want to Believe. You hear him say one thing and assume he means another same goes for everyone else on the project.
But It’s not, The script has changed And it obvious they know a certain amount about At least the OT show to use character from it, Why would they do that and not know anything about the tmnt????, They have said several time the script was not what they were working and it Obvious it’s not what the direction there currently going. There are still people who think the turtles are aliens and won’t listen to reason that they aren’t anymore Had a long argument with one on another site about this still doesn’t believe they’re not aliens
Richson claimed in a red carpet interview that he was a fan that had read all the comics and watch the shows and so on and then it turned out he wasn't such a big after all so I'm not too accepting of someone else saying that. As far as I have been able to Find he Never Said any of that in the red carpet Interview I have found and seems to be the only one.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/mtv-movie-awards-teenage-mutant-439723
This seems to be the only Red carpet TMNT video of Alan As far as I can find. And in it all he says is “I grew up with the turtles” Not I have consumed everything turtles. I grew Up which to me Can mean the same thing as it pertains to Me I grew Up watching the show and movie I didn’t even know about the Comic till Later (as I was to young to read them)

He also seems to be working from memory as opposed to doing any research. Certainly the existence of Eric Sachs character seems to be a very big and important deviation. Then again the only concrete thing stated about this movie and how it stays faithful to the mythology is that it has pizza and sewers. I know No one want to hear it But as Far as Eric Sachs We don’t know the whole story We know what we think the story should be and that it There could and probably will be a reason given. This does not mean he doesn’t know the mythology just means that in this particular version something different one that we do not know yet.

Exactly Michael bay doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about. That doesn’t mean the people working closer to the production don’t. At the time of Michael Bay Speech Maybe he miss understood or miss spoke Happens all the time. And he did come back and fix his statement later. So I think that was just a huge misunderstanding.

Also the rest of the comments aren't too dissimilar to what the designer of the turtles recently made about how the designs are based on Eastman and Laird's designs and I think we can all agree those aren't really Kevin and Peter's designs. I See this is one place where I can half the internet disagrees with you. They all look like how they’re supposed to IMO and many others. I have shown this picture to tons of different people and their reaction “is sweet looks good, looks like the turtles”. On just about any Comic book website on the internet people are pretty much all in agreement save a few people. So I don’t see how they all that much different from the design beside few cosmetic changes.
You're reaching with this. He doesn't have more than a vague recollection of stuff he glanced at decades ago - his most clear memory of the TMNT is their bath tub toys.

Not that he has to have any knowledge of any prior version given he's playing a very new very different character than has been featured in TMNT. I’m just saying he at least know about the turtle and is intrigued with the idea of playing this Character William is a Great actor and not a stupid one. I doubt he would go into something he thought would fail.
I'd say not being a coward and not being in competition with April are pretty big deviations for Vernon's character - that was pretty much Vernon in a nutshell. Also being something of an action ready guy is another big deviation. To me from the information I got was that he may somehow overcome some of his anxieties and then become the “courageous” character he is talking about.

It's strikes me if they were canny they could argue that this version of Vernon is based on how he was characterized in the first few episodes of the Fred Wolf show where he was no more a coward than the other Channel 6 crew and somwhat supportive of April but obviously neither he or the creative staff are aware of that. Arnett himself has stated his character is very different from the one found in the comics...well Vernon wasn't in any of the comics but Arnett doesn't need to know that. Im not saying it is but this could be a miss communication on his part or I could be wrong. But he obviously know that thought his character is different it’s different from something and I would guess he knew what that other something was
I'm not saying they do have to be fans or have any kind of reverence for the source material but these guys have none. What few concessions they've made is seemingly at the behest of Viacom because of the media backlash to their original movie. I just think we lack the full scop of what they’re doing. Who knows maybe when they start doing press we will cometo find that all of them where given home work to watch the old show start to finish and watch all the movies we don’t know. And I admit that that’s kind of on their part because they haven’t even started their promotional campaign for this movie and I hope it starts soon.

Tobey Mcguire never struck me as a good Peter Parker. Sam Raimi was of ythe silver-age era and that shows but he wasn't a fan of Venom but the not only did the studio pushed for that character in the third movie and the fans loved the idea so he did it and it turned out to be terrible. That because he really dislikes the character and that why they Went with Sandman and why he was focused more on in this movie is because he thought sandman was a better villain, Which is bull most fans would pick Venom Way before Sandman but any way.
Since then we've had a wave of comic book movies that do translate quite faithfully from print to screen with actors and directors that have delved into the franchise history and I think they've been very successful because of that. The alterations are mostly either well thought out or understandable - not all but most. TMNT is sadly not going to be on that level. I for one still have Quite a lot of faith left in this movie I have Been skeptical of a lot of things and I admit I’m a very open minded person when it comes to adaptations so I will most likely enjoy this movie regardless, But I have a feeling that it will meet my expectations what Im hoping I will see. I was super excited when DB movie started work and fallowed it through production and thought I still wish to see a more faithful adaptation someday (maybe sooner rather than Later) I still enjoyed Evolution for what it was and I don’t care what anyone says the final Battle was totally DB and DBZ it just kinda stunk it wasn’t like that all the way through.

I disagree that actors don't need to or "shouldn't have to" research roles. If you're a professional, it's what you do, if for no other reason than consistency, *especially* if you're doing a character that others have done before. You absolutely want to bring your own angle to it, but it's completely wrong not to do SOME research. It's disrespectful to others who have already done it, it's almost like saying "I don't need to see how they did it, because in being fresh and original, my take will be better." It's not *really* saying that, but it's implicit.

Even as a wrestler, I'm required to study tape. And only partly to see how other guys do moves. I'm playing a character, a role, and to properly perform that character, I'm told by veteran wrestlers and the matchmakers - the "directors and producers", so to speak - I need to watch how certain people perform. IF I want to be considered "professional" and take my job seriously. For my character, I watch matches of guys like Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and beyond that, the on-stage performances of singers and rock stars like Axl Rose and David Lee Roth. I take little bits of all that, and it becomes MY character. I don't get a crowd reaction by having a better suplex than the next guy, I get it by using my body language to manipulate the audience. In other words, I'm an actor, executing a role, and studying tape and doing research to further develop my character and better entertain the audience.

There's no reason "real" actors in big-budget films can get by with "It's a 'new take', I don't have to research the character." That's nonsense. If you were playing Romeo or Juliet, for example, shouldn't you read the f*cking book? Seriously.

Everyone and their mother loves to bring up the example of Heath Ledger's Joker in regards to bad casting choices actually being good, so let's do it again.

You know what Heath did prior to filming?

He locked himself in a hotel room for a month, reading all the Joker material he could find. He spent the entire time perfecting the voice and the mannerisms of the Joker he was portraying.

He kept a diary full of Joker cutouts from comic books and lists upon lists of things the Joker would find funny.

THAT is a level of dedication I doubt these actors in this movie are even remotely capable of.

Heath took it seriously and gave it his all. Like an actor. Like a GOOD actor.

Hell I wouldn't even ask THIS level of dedication of these actors in this movie. Just that they at least give a ****.

I guess I just disagree. I can understand a fan wanting a new version of a character to be inspired by old ones. And I can definitely understand an actor digging deep into a character like The Joker. I just think THIS character has such a broad range of difference between well known interpretations, that what is consistent about the character really is as simple as how Ritchson described.

He could pick and choose elements to uphold from different versions, if he wanted to. But, no matter what, some fans are going to say, "Why doesn't he crack jokes?" or "Why doesn't he have a New York accent?" It's impossible to "nail it," when fans all see Raph in different ways, and we would never agree what should be adopted from what interpretations.

That acting is so bad in the amazing Spider-Man right there. The transition from AMbulence to uncle Ben was way to fast. Just watch the scene you'll see what I mean, but other than that it was really good. I liked the movie. Just that one scene gets me every time. He immersed himself in a character, and gave a convincing performance, because he was a good actor. But he could have done that with an original character, as well. Was research the big factor here? Or was this just an actor giving a great performance? Maybe he culled Joker minutiae from history, but who would catch it? This take on the Joker, however inspired, was new to the audience, at large.

And Raph is a character with a much shallower history. I'm saying this guy Ritchson knows all he needs to know about Raph, because there's not much to know. He's simple. Many of us got over Megan Fox because we don't think April will be hard to play. I think the turtles are the same way. And if this character does have some depth, it's probably made up, because it always is, when TMNT is reinvented. The turtles have new traits and new quirks, every time, because not much is constant about them. You've got the leader, the geek, the goofball, and the one with attitude. Everything else is subject to change. Always has been.

Yeah, Ritchson had Blue Mountain State and Hunger Games 2. Howard has been in plenty of movies and shows. He's a recognizable face, at least. And Fisher is on Shameless, which I thing is a big show...

Regardless, they're the most famous TMNT cast, other than Nick.

and TMNT 2007 had some big names too

IDK i still wish they would have gone with some one else but im waiting till i see more. who know she could surprise alot of people. She seems to have kind of change since Transformer when all she was was and "up and coming" hot star but she seems to have kinda moved away from that and the last couple roles she has had from what i have heard she has been pretty good.

They aren't really recognizable. Given I sorta enjoyed blue mountain state nothing really substantial. Jennifer Lawrence made hunger games. She's just freaking amazing, you get sucked into that, her work makes everyone else around her better, and improves the films as a whole. The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was an indie film with a very low budget so you can't compare those. I was mainly talking about the turtles actors. Now with the huge budget for this film and an access of great talent there is now, these fools are low level. No way around it. They aren't good or really well know.

One of they turtles is unknown the others are pretty well known but idk what allot of fans were expecting Oscar winners that's just not this type of movie. Sorry, plus the one award winner they got everyone seems to hate (i don't but many others do) Raph Mikey and Don all have pretty well known and seen actors with their own avid fans.

I'd go as Far to say C listers as best. I don't think anyone even did an audition for this movie besides young April and all those sorta filler people.

They don't matter. They're never had to be THE guy. Nobodies saying "holy s*** we gotta go see that fisher movie" or something crazy like that. You poll their names amongst most people they'd have no idea who the hell you were talking about. They're c listers and forever supporting cast. They can't carry movie. They'll never be a big draw. In all honesty this is probably the biggest moment of their lives and their peak. I don't think they get any bigger than this and still doesn't matter for the evolution and grand scheme of their careers. They are forgettable. Expendable actors.

To turn the tone of this I actually think Pete Ploscek(spelling) is going to end up being a decent actor, he just started acting like 3 years ago, since he graduated from princton lol

They look alright but my few peeves are:

- Donnie's specs are irritatingly cliched

- How in the HELL did Mikey manage to get a tattoo?! It's not like he can stroll into a body mod parlor.

- Why does Leo have the bamboo/window blinds chest plate when he has a sturdy plastron? Could their plastrons be thinner and weaker to allow more flexibility? That's one possibility I can think of.

Gotta say I'm kinda disappointed that these are the final designs. But ultimately there's nothing we can do to change it so I guess I'm gonna try to focus my attention on looking for a trailer and hoping for the best from what we're given once we see something else from the movie.

As much as I doubt it, I'm hoping they'll surprise us with a decently good TMNT movie.

TMNT is cooler than MOTU

I'm assuming that the toys aren't as close to the movie versions as the maquettes. They look like they are being made to really attract younger fans, but they are toys after all. The maquettes were also darker in color than these so that has me thinking that these aren't exact from the movie like the maquette designs.

Have you got one with a close-up of the characters on the box? It'd be nice to see a bit more of their bodies since they're obscured by eachother in the poster.

No, I only found this one and one that was farther back to show more of the merch but it was blurrier.

That picture was obtained illegally, clearly, as other websites have all said that pictures were strictly off-limits for any merchandise pertaining to the new movie. For some reason, and annoyingly, Paramount is being incredibly secretive on all aspects of the film.

To be fair....

Nothing in their resume screamed "I can headline a major film franchise" at the time, but Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, and Elijah Wood did fantastic in their roles for Lord of the Rings.

Personally, I'd rather have relatively unknown actors playing the turtles. The question is entirely whether or not the casting director made the right choice based on their auditions.

The good thing is that Leonardo’s render doesn’t look as “fat” on the toy packaging as it did on the poster. It’s mainly the face where you can tell.

They actually had acting skills, they're unknown but not unknown. There are plenty of other relitively unknown actors that are better for the job I'm guessing, but odds are nobody got a chance to audition for this and that's the sad truth.
