How do you guys feel about a sequel to the latest movie? Do you think there is a bit of untapped potential in this series that can be executed better?

Yes and No.

I have hope that the sequel will be an improvement from the last one, but then again, I fear that the filmmakers might get really lazy and use the same formula again.

meh.

Maybe the next one will be better, probably not considering the continuity it's gonna spawn from and the company behind it.

Not from Platinum Dunes I'm not. It'll just be another terrible movie thrown together that was only made as a simple cash grab.

The movie didn't get enough off the ground the first time to make me excited about more adventures in this universe. Instead of successfully wrapping up all the important details about Shredder and Eric Sachs, you just assume Sachs is dead after getting knocked the f*** out and you get that shot of Shredder touching the goo....but what the hell happened? Did Sachs and Shredder get arrested? Was the Foot finally put on trail after being such an apparent menace throughout the film? No ones knows. It's a huge gaping plot hole that had to be taken out for some reason (or just wasn't written in at all, further making me angry at the "creative team" at Platinum Dunes) and your final shot of your TMNT in this series is a gag scene featuring the Turtle rape van.

The possibility of them throwing Krang, Rocksteady, Bebop and other characters I grew up with here and giving them their first real film debut makes me incredibly sad we're going to see it with these Turtles. I originally liked the designs at first but seeing them in the film and how only surface level they allowed their character personalities to be just really bummed me out and made me dislike the design choices even more surprisingly.

I feel this franchise could go the way of how the Transformers movies went, the script's continued to get worse and the humor was even more toilet related, mean spirited and downright horrible. I don't have faith in this franchise to sore and I sincerely hope that these Turtles don't start to bleed over into infecting the IDW series at all. Luckily I think the people over at IDW also feel the movie is complete horse crap as well. I'll probably need to research that to know for sure.

Anyway, tl:dr....no, I'm not happy. While it's fun to laugh at the movie, I think I would've enjoyed it more if this wasn't the ONLY thing TMNT film related we're getting. If we lived in a world where two movie TMNT franchises could go on at the same time, not confuse the general population and had a different, almost more mature tone to it...maybe I wouldn't be giving this such a hard time. However, since I love the TMNT and know that their rich history allows for so many great stories to tell and fantastic films....considering what we got this month for a movie? It's a downright bummer.

No. I'd rather they do another reboot or continue from the original films.

There's nothing surprising about that at all. See, one of the main reasons so many of us "haters" were taking issue with design to begin with, is that they seem to exist only to give you the personality that the turtles themselves never really explore, be it through action or dialogue.

Exactly. I guess I was so shocked at how quickly I turned on the designs after being somewhat alright with them after awhile.

You're right, they don't give you the chance to get to know them as well so they tack on things that you're aware of when it comes to each character and think that's a way to get around it.

I'm neither, I'm not happy, nor am I mad. I have nothing invested in this particular continuity, so I could care less if a sequel is made or not, or if the new sequel bombs or not. The Turtles have survived train wrecks before (Next Mutation) so they will survive again.

Right now, the part of me that looks forward to it is based on the [possibly in vein] hope for improvement and doing what should have been done the first time around.

I suppose mostly I want the let-downs patched up so they aren't the permanent picture of this version; like having Knoxville cleansed from my perception of this version's Leo.

The Turtles themselves (minus Leo's voice 'talent') were a good side of it though, all things considered and different as they may be, wouldn't mind seeing more of them.

Not really happy but I don't feel that I care enough about PD's "contribution" to the franchise to pay any attention to the second one, positive or negative. Enough of my time and energy were wasted on the first one, I just feel completely apathetic about the whole thing now.

I kinda think that would happened even if there wasn't a movie out. Especially the comic. I'm sure a lot of the people with kids going are fans of the Nicktoon, but I doubt more than 10% know there's a comic out.

I wonder how many people who saw it out of curiosity and disliked/hated it would actually see the sequel, though? A lot of people despise the Transformers movies, but they tend to make decent bank - though less and less in North America, to be fair. If TF4 is any indication, the shine may be coming off the Michael Bay apple a bit in my part of the world. If so, his movies are gonna depend more and more on the international market.

I guess we'll find out soon enough!

Well, OS might be something else. It seems the OS markets tend to like the big robot against robot action, over the top action sequences, and they like high speed car chases, which is probably why movies like Transformers, Fast and Furious, Avengers and The Dark Knight did so well. I've also noticed movies with British actors in them also tend to do well. Maybe if the sequel was to get a British guy to play Casey Jones, maybe have some more over the top high speed chase scenes (can't believe we didn't have a chase scene involving the Turtle van in the first movie) it might do better than the first OS.

Only the minor (practically minuscule) possibility that a sequel can only improve upon this years movie that it's actually passable as a movie in itself let alone be a movie that treats these specific characters and story right is what has me interested.

I'd say I was cynical about promises of The Raid style action scenes and the turtles being the focus of the movie as well as teases of Oroku Saki and a greater back story and mythology I assumed it was based on something but it all added up to a big fat nothing.

If they want to convince me they've got a real challenge on their hands. Unless they show me otherwise I'm going to believe the opposite. I don't think I'm alone in this.

I think he saw a different cut than us, one that was probably more awesom than the one we got. But two weeks later, and nothing. Nada. Kevin is probably getting ready to prepare for the Nick toon coming back, and Laird has been keeping quiet about it all.

I think the series can only go up from here. They made a ton of changes to this movie, based on what fans were saying. Now that's all behind us. They've heard the fans, they've listened, and they can start this second film on the right foot, so that it doesn't suffer from so much rewriting, reshooting, and editing.

Leo656

Nah, the wrong people are still behind it. It's mathematically impossible for a sequel to really improve on anything, based on where they started from and the relative lack of care put into everything. At best it will be more of the same, but with even more characters uncomfortably crammed in. So it's probably going to be pretty awful.

As others have said, the decline of the Transformers series is a good template to go by, as far as prediction of quality if nothing else. Each movie has been about twice as bad as the one before it (and the first one was actually a pretty good movie, real shame they didn't even wait five minutes after the money came in to start turning the franchise into the worst kind of bad joke), but they have no reason to change anything because the same imbeciles keep paying to see them so obviously they're "good enough".

I'm not sure the sequel will be big money, though. This one had a big start and then quickly crashed and burned, relatively speaking. I won't be surprised if it ends up like "Kick-Ass", where enough people liked it to earn it "surprise hit" status, but then everyone decided in between that one movie was plenty, thus tanking the sequel. We'll see, but that's my prediction. People who have already had their fears confirmed that this franchise is in the wrong hands aren't going to be going to see the sequel out of curiosity, for one thing. They've already been burned.

They waited too long for Kick Ass 2. First, it lost it's edge when Chloe Grace Moretz got older (a 15 year old assassin is just not quite as shocking as a 12 year old) and the director chosen for the sequel sucked ass compared to Matthew Vaughn. But then again, you could be right, in that some movies are meant to be only one hit wonders. I think Fantastic Four is in line with this way of thinking.

Extremely happy :tcool:

Something tells me they prob learned a lesson with this first one and realized they got lucky as it wasn't the movie/story itself that sold tickets but rather people just going because the Turtles were live on the big screen again after so many years and the nostalgia factor.

Now, they go back to the drawing board with one thought.. You can't please everyone, especially fanboys.. so create a story and STICK TO IT. This last-minute editing/cutting/chopping has to go. Keep it under wraps if you have to because EVERYONE is going to be critical of this property..

Then theres also the element of surprise.. the first one didnt sit well with critics and had split reactions between fans. Make the necessary changes to put together a GOOD STORY that flows and market the **** out of this next movie.

I'm a little afraid of this..

They'll really have to pay attention to:
1) when they release it and what blockbuster films release around it
2) when/how they market the film and whom they market it to
3) better be a damn GOOD movie that will create positive word of mouth
4) what characters/enemies they use from TMNT lore (Casey? Bebop/Rocksteady? Krang? Baxter? Do you bring back Shredder?)

Im sure there is much more as well..

Meh.

Considering my biggest issue with the film was the script and they've got the same nimrods writing the sequel, I don't have high hopes.

The only saving grace is if they learned not to do anything that's just really stupid to begin with and they won't have to panic on re-writes and reshoots to make the film disjointed. If they avoid that, maybe it'll be better.

Honestly, I feel like the rewrites were poorly done and not well thought out as well, which just furthers my opinion that the writers aren't a good choice.

So I expect another hour and a half of "more of the same."

Perhaps.. but the end result of the movie that was released wasnt great either because of outcries for changes too late in the process of a movie that was already in post-production. The point Im making here is that now since they've established the tone, the cast and the universe for the future installment(s), there's no need to go and do extensive rewrites.

I do agree that I probably would've disliked the Col Schraeder/Turtle race, etc.. but to change everything so late in the game, hindered what could've been. I'd rather not have a sequel at this stage. On one hand I'm happy that the people who enjoyed the first film will probably get more of the same - I'm glad it brings joy to them. If I felt it was going to be harmess then fair play. But I worry that more of this turtles portrayal being being 'commercially successful' sends out the wrong message and will lead to more substandard stuff in the future, as opposed to the great drama we have had from Mirage, IDW, 4kids, the original film etc. I'm not saying that those are masterpieces of the highest standard but they are pretty intelligent and entertaining examples of drama. I actually made this exact point in another thread a few minutes ago, but it's more appropriate for this particular thread.

Shhh... that sounds crazily altered enough they just might go for it should they see such suggestions. lol

Well, at the very least I suppose we can hope they will have an aversion to trying to repeat the amount of criticism some of their own decisions put them up against. I hope they will choose to be more mindful, and for their own good sneak around online to see what people are saying.

Cautiously hopeful, though I suppose eventually that will change when we start getting real details. I just hope it changes for the positive rather than lessens the hope.

For now there is at least plenty of time to get feedback out there. And like real feedback on the nitty-gritty of it... pacing, Turtles screen time, etc. that should be adjusted, not just wanted characters or themes.

Me too. Preferably done by someone trustworthy. In fact scrap that - someone who cares about the final product should be a condition of the reboot, it should be a minimum. It doesn't seem like PD really care about giving us a deep film, as long as they make money. Obviously this is true of everyone to an extent, but at least some take some pride in their art.

Not to go too off topic, but I always enjoy answering this question. I think it's worse than the third film based on the fact that TMNT 3 is very much this franchise's version of Batman & Robin. There was so little creativity that went into the making of it and everything from the plot to the puppetry to the acting is so cookie cutter & lame that there's something charming about it. I think enough time has passed that people can laugh at TMNT and take it for what it was. It's just a bad movie that's made more enjoyable when drinking with friends and laughing at it. Seriously, the Turtles look terrible in it.

This movie however is a big budget machine with a lot of star power and motivation behind it to create something substantial, but it's lack of cohesive plot...bad character development and motivation...and what almost appears to be apprehension of playing by the rules of it's world makes the 2014 movie a bigger failure in my eyes.

But that's sort of the thing. Even with reacting to those complaints, there's no reason for them to have gone so overboard like they did, but we're talking about a production team that doesn't know the concept of subtle.

Hell, look at Iron Man 3's follow up All Hail the King. The same basic concept with Saki extracting Sacks after he dishonored the Foot Clan in a mid or post credits scene would have allowed them to maintain their film without reshooting into a disjointed mess while still establishing what fans were looking for regarding the promise of a "real" Shredder instead of robo-whitewash-Shredder.

As for finding that genius? I just don't see it. Same nitwits writing the sequel.

I swear their answer to a bee sting on the finger would be to amputate the arm. Everything in this film and its design and production was "kick it to 11!"

Last time I watched III, I was surprised that I actually didn't find it to be as horrible as I remembered. Try "watching" it while you're doing something else. Clean the house, do dishes, just something that lets you glance now and then, but mostly listen to it more than watch it. There's something underneath all the mess with that movie, a lot of which is distracting by the plummet in quality on the animatronic costumes. At least, in my opinion. ;)

TMNT III had the characters as the primary focus and got that the characters weren't all one note caricatures and tried to flesh them out. Saccharin as the character with an attitude bonding with a child or Mike falling for a lady and so on it worked to set up a dilemma of whether the turtles should stay in the past. It wasn't much but it was there.

I'd also say that the story makes sense. True there's a few contrivances but and it's a very basic time travel story and not much else but it all flows smoothly.

You can't make those claims about the 2014 movie.

But that's sort of the thing. Even with reacting to those complaints, there's no reason for them to have gone so overboard like they did, but we're talking about a production team that doesn't know the concept of subtle.

I actually think there's a attempt to by defenders of the '14 movie to pin all of it's flaws on the the changes made to appease the fans so. Thus if we think it's a bad product then it's "our" fault.

However while the movie might have flowed better if they'd kept Sacks as the Shredder in all honestly it seems disjointed in other aspects unrelated to the Shredder's identity that I'd wager they changed themselves since fans were unaware of these things.

For example was the mutagen made to create living weapons or was made to be a cure for this disease? Both seem incompatible but both claims are made in the movie. (Certainly the guy from Latino review said that the former was a big theme of the movie when he visited the set with the Foot creating super soldiers.)

A rather huge flaw for me was after the raid on the lair Raphael goes to rescue his brothers with Splinter near death with his fate uncertain. The next scene it seems as if Raphael believes Splinter will be fine. That seems a bit of a disconnect but okay. Then during the rescue of his brothers not only is Splinter back to being at death's door again but it was their mission all along to get some mutagen to save his life. Where did this come from?

It seems they shot two versions of this part of the movie. One were Splinter is dying and they have to race against the clock for a cure to save his life and another were he's only injured and Raph is just trying to save his brothers. They edited together to form an incomprehensible mush.

And this is before taking into account that Raph seems to leave Splinter a bit too easily. Surely he's take him to a safe place rather than leaving him in the ruins of the lair knowing it's location is compromised. How exactly do they know mutagen will save him? Doesn't he have mutagen in his system already? Wouldn't more mutagen mutate him further?

Yeah, I've noticed that a bit in some cases. If people want to defend the movie for what it is, fine... But to try to blame fans for however it turned out as if the problems with it were simple and the makers are akin to infallible deities for bringing TMNT to the screen...

Imperfect humans making an imperfect movie isn't anything surprising, nor a crime.... that's life. But they could at least been a bit more aware of what they were doing (or getting into) from the get-go.

It was a mistake making it Finchner/roboshredder in the first place. Just like it was a mistake making him Colonel Schroeder at first. It was a mistake trying to shoe-horn this random character into the movie at all? Couldn't he have been one of the government villains in Transformers 4 if he needed work that badly?

Why in the hell, didn't they cast this hardcore Shredder that they did get in the first place? Those 2 short scenes of him were better than most of the film.

Wasn't the "That's what your father and I were trying to do. Create heroes." line completely omitted from the film? If it was, then that shows a clear indication that the mutagen was more so a "super soldier serum" ala Captain America and it would give logic as to why Splinter and the Turtles learned ninjutsu so quickly...oh and why they're god damn bullet proof for some reason.

Again, I think that's another example of the reedits that are so apparent in this film that it boggles any real intelligence or thought when trying to enjoy this movie.

And yes, I've seen plenty of people on here trying to use those reedits against people who didn't enjoy the film. This film sounds like it was just a doomed project from the start. Not that the idea of bringing TMNT back to the screen was a doomed notion, but the people they've had working on this clearly needed to get their act together.

Didn't Eastman think this movie was awesome when he watched it? Also, whatever happen to that cameo he talked about at one point? I could have sworn he said he'd make a cameo.

It got cut.

 Why on Dimension X would they cut out a cameo for one of the franchise's original creators?

Yeah, I'm with you here. They didn't do it well, and the writing/directing/production values are pretty painful, but I don't feel like the story's internal logic is as completely broken as the BayTurtles movie. And its particular type of badness gives TMNT3 a bit of an entertaining cheese factor. I'd definitely rather watch TMNT3 again than ever revisit the BayTurtles. Especially with a few drinks. :twink:

Never mind the fact that if Platinum Dunes didn't clumsily backtrack after every online controversy, we'd probably have a version of that Alien Ninja Turtles movie instead, and absolutely everyone would have hated that. Maybe they should be thanking us instead. :tlol:

Seriously, though - the producers are to blame for the final product, full stop. They wouldn't alter the film in the eleventh hour if they didn't feel they had to, or that it made more financial sense to change their product. For better or worse, what we got is entirely on the folks at Platinum Dunes. Assign blame accordingly.

After seeing the surprisingly positive feedback and violent defense this movie gets.... I wouldn't be surprised if the Alien Turtles movie still would have had a strong legion of followers calling us 'wrong' for complaining that the turtles were made into aliens. And anxious for the sequel.

I wouldn't give the studio so much credit. The film made money so they are going to think they did something right story wise. It all depends I guess on word of mouth 4 to 6 months after the film leaves theaters.

I am really happy about the sequel. I gotta say that I wasn't surprised though. A lot of us saw it coming. But it was just awesome to hear it announced only a few days after the first one was released. I hope they learned a few things after making this movie.

One thing This production is guilty of is trying to make everyone happy. It's impossible. No matter what kind of movie it was it would have had backlash. Period. I find it a little amusing that the same ones online that flipped over Shredder not being Japanese are NOW complaining that Sacks wasn't Shredder

The people involved with making these films have worked their asses off to get where they are. They paid their dues and have every right to take what liberties they want to take. Esp the co creator himself. They should do what THEY want to do and go for it. They shouldn't pay attention to angry internet people treating TMNT like it is their own personal property that no one else should dare change. They have every right. But they wanted to make fans happy. Yea the film had it's flaws. Fans wanted their cowabunga's and their Japanese Shredder and their pizza.. they got it. But after claiming that all their online outrage changed the direction of a major film they NOW claim that they had no hand in how generic it ended up being.

And I thought people had different tastes and opinions? Some just cant except the fact that just bc you didn't like this movie doesn't mean that the ones that did are wrong. No one has to " defend " anything. That's absolutely absurd lol. You are allowed to feel a certain way about something but that doesn't make everyone that feels differently wrong. The way people view their own views as concrete facts around here and then expand on them like they are facts and treat those that disagree with them like illiterate crazy morons lol.. It's ridiculous.

I totally agree. But I do think that the trailers really pulled people in. Esp. the TV spots. I just wish they kept a lot of the stuff in. Like the Lair scenes with Mikey giving April a tour. And Raph in his trench. They do listen to fans and I think they will make improvements. I think they've learned a lot from making this first film. I hope the lack of confusion and cluster f*** will help things along in a better way. Better story better everything. I do kind of hope they pick another director though. I like Liebesman but.. let him direct something else. This franchise is on the top of my list.. They are my favorite characters and I think I just want someone with a little more experience. Well see what happens

It was a generic movie..... That's all this was going to be since the alien Turtles and colonel Shroader thing. Doing a last minute re-shoot and cramming some random asian guy in there for 5 minutes doesn't change the fact that the rest of movie was a generic sloppy mess. You could have taken those scenes out and left Sachs as Shredder and it should would have been a screwed up movie.

These guys had no business making a TMNT movie. Period.

And no, if they choose to make a movie based on a pre-existing property, they DON'T get to do whatever the hell they want. They have to at the very least follow certain things from the series they're adopting, or else they can just go all out and make their own original movie about their own original characters.

People don't make a Batman movie about a disco dancing guy that eats bats, hence the name, and he fights a bear with clown make-up nicknamed Joker

People don't make a movie about Captain America able to shoot missiles from his hands

People don't make Spider-Man swing from webs out his butt and have him have an incestous affair with Aunt May.

They don't make a movie where Superman is only kinda sorta strong, and can't fly.

They have to at least follow the basic groundwork of what they're trying to adapt, or just go all-out and make their own thing.

I have no idea what these people were aiming for when they starting writing the script and whatnot... but it sure as hell wasn't a Ninja Turtles film.

I find it a little amusing that the same ones online that flipped over Shredder not being Japanese are NOW complaining that Sacks wasn't Shredder

They made a few minor token changes without really putting any thought of why these things were important to include. I don't think that qualifies as "trying to please everyone".

If they wanted to please everyone they wouldn't have pursued a course that would have made the fan base so angry in the first place let alone wait until the last minute to change it. You can't stop fans from pointing how badly those changes were implemented or how better it would have been if they'd done it earlier...or better still thought of these very basic things from the beginning.

If I go into a diner and order a cheese and ham sandwich and they give me one with the cheese is off and the bread is moldy it's not like I have no right to complain because they gave me what I asked for.

As I've said elsewhere defenders of this movie seem to now suggest that it's flaws are purely the result of the changes they made to please the fans as a way to excuse those flaws and say that if we thought it was bad it's "our" faults. Like I said it's not like the really delivered on fan service and a lot of the changes done to the movie which make it feel very disjointed are in aspects unrelated to the Shredder issue or anything that fans were upset or even knew about.

Well I'm not necessarily sure that everyone involved in this movie has worked their asses off or paid their dues. The entertainment industry can be very unfair on almost every level. For some people hard work and talent can pay off but for other talented people they can work hard for years and never get anywhere while someone who has the right connections gets an easy ride to the top. Does anything in Leibesman's resume suggest that he'd be the right choice to direct an attempt at a movie which acts as a tent pole for what they hoped would be a billion dollar series?

In regards to them doing what they want with the characters there's a school of thought that says that it you create something it belongs to the world and I think there's some truth in that. Denny O'Neil said it best when he saw some of the reactions to his comic book work. "I thought I was editing fiction but I soon found out that the Batman editor, and the Superman editor and Woman Woman editor are more than that. They are custodians of folklore".

Yes they can all do what they want with these characters and franchises but they do it at their peril. If they don't like criticisms or can't handle backlash maybe they should put some real thought into what would please people instead of just doing what they want. (That's not to say they should have no creative freedom but there is a realm of good taste when doing something new with very established characters. This is where having people that like and understand property comes in.)

The box office numbers are a sign of this. I don't begrudge Paramount's marketing machine trying to make this appear like a huge success but the numbers are pretty mediocre for a movie which should have everything going for it. They really have to ask why so many people decided to stay away.

The sad part is that die is now cast. Even if a sequel really improves on this movie it's pretty much going to land in the same ballpark. Just look at Batman Begins? Generally considered a great movie but financially it didn't set the world alight thanks to Batman & Robin turning so many people off the franchise and it looked like The Dark Knight wouldn't have made that much more. It was the tragic death of Heath Ledger that got mass amounts of people interested in the Nolan series.

Unless something drastic happens to get people really excited about a TMNT series then I think we're in for a bunch of mediocre sellers regardless of how good or bad the movies are.

Just more folks assuming they know what they are talking about and actually believe it to be fact. Id say Kevin Eastman has every right to take certain liberties with a TMNT film. Anyone denying that isn't worth responding to. And Kevin was heavily involved with making this film. Secondly.. I know this is a hard concept to grasp around here but.. There is absolutely ZERO proof that this production " added on a scene or two" to add some " Japanese guy". He was told to keep it a secret during the whole production. And the reshoots were bc Fox was pregnant and some shots and to be redone bc was having a baby. I know I know.. everyone is lying to us all the time. Lies lies lies. Stop expanding on these things like you know for a fact that it happened. Truth is it is all speculation. But yet you expand on it like you were there. You weren't. And these film makers? They have paid their dues. I know it's "cool" now to be cynical and envious of anyone that has made it in life and is successful in Hollywood but that doesn't change the fact that they have put themselves in a position to make these films. If people have such a huge problem with it and want it done " their" way then they should work hard at putting themselves in a position to make the film of their dreams. But as for PD and Liebesman and Eastman? they DO have the right to take liberties and make changes. So it just makes some look ridiculous trying to say that they " don't" lol. Just bc you didn't end up liking the end product you think you can say that they had no business or right to create a TMNT movie? That is so absurd I am laughing right this second. As I write this I am laughing. All this " they made a bad movie how dare they" mentality? it's subjective/objective.

Yes they can all do what they want with these characters and franchises but they do it at their peril. .

And I agree. And it paid off. Some can try their hardest to take away from this films success.. even by comparing it to other films lol.
But against so many odds this film prevailed when SO MANY made it their full time job trying to bury it in negativity. So many wanted this movie to fail. So you can understand how it must of felt for some to see this movie do well. A lot of folks enjoyed the film. And they are not " ignorant or wrong for doing so". Yea im sure some went to see it bc Ledger died shorty after.. But that film deserved every penny it earned. Imo it was one of if not the best comic book film I've ever seen. People packed in bc Heaths performance got great word of mouth. And it's obvious why. Batman Begins did well.. I don't see any connection or negative effect from Batman forever.. The Nolan series did awesome and it was bc the films were well done. But Im not sure why everyone keeps comparing TMNT to Superman and Spiderman and Batman.

People are already going to great lengths to call this sequel a failure and it doesn't even have a script yet. You guys all did it with this first film.. and started betting against it the second the sequel was announced. Just the lengths some will go to convince that this next film will be crap lol..

Yeah, at the very least seeing some down time without it at their home would be nice. Surely they, esp Donnie, don't wear all that stuff literally all the time - how can one sleep in that tech stuff, Mikey's necklaces could be a strangulation hazard, and isn't it rude to be bringing all your gear and weapons to the breakfast table? lol ("Forget the gear, turtle boy, just sit down and enjoy your damn Lucky Charms." ;))

It baffles me that some people moan about how they feel they are not allowed to voice opinions when they are completely oblivious to the tone of the own posts which come across very much like they think they are right and anyone who disagrees is wrong and stupid.

This is a public forum for the purpose of discussion. It should be expected that people may disagree and debate your opinion. If you can't handle that then perhaps this isn't the board for you.

Weren't you in your previous post saying that they made changes to please the fans? Seems to me you're flip flopping on this issue when it suits your agenda to defend this movie.

Also I don't think we have to assume anything now.

The guy Latino review who invited to the set saw with his own eyed the shooting of a scene that had Sachs as the Shredder experimenting with the mutagen turning his ninjas into super soldiers. Are calling this guy a liar? Bare in mind he was one of the few people positive about this movie during production.

Tohoru Masamune who plays the shadowy figure that I'm guessing we're supposed to think is Oroku Saki confirmed himself he was cast late on in production, knew there had been changes and started shooting the same month as re-shoots. Are you calling him a liar?

William Fichtner himself in a recent interview answered the question of him being cast as the Shredder and he says there were a lot of changes that went on with the movie in general and Shredder in particular. Are you calling him a liar?

There's other evidence too from the 3DS game to on set photos and more to show things drastically changed. We don't have to lie or assume anything we know.

And I agree. And it paid off. Some can try their hardest to take away from this films success.. even by comparing it to other films lol.

Why not compare it to other movies?

Isn't that how you measure success? Guardians of the Galaxy was supposed to have a similar appeal and targeted at the same demographic and months on here several defenders of TMNT '14 were bragging about it would mop the floor with GOTG now apparently doing half of it's a numbers is deemed a success.

If we're not supposed to compare to the other movie then how about applying the simplest of business principal. Is the movie making money?

Well it's not made it's budget back yet so it hasn't turned a profit and so they haven't earned any money.

Edit: I totally disagree about the death of Heath being the reason why the film did so well. The Dark Knight did well bc people thought it was an awesome film. You have the time frame quite wrong there Puddinpop. Heath Ledger died in January of 2008 and movie was released in July of the same year. He passed away before.

People went to see a much loved actor's final performance. People who didn't follow the Batman series or even like comic book based movies turned out for that film. That's why the Dark Knight has such a huge jump in numbers from the previous movie which while critically acclaimed didn't make much.

Why compare TMNT to Superman, Batman, Spider-Man etc? They are all comic book properties. TMNT has the same marquee value as all those franchises if not the respect and clout. Sadly this movie will not change that.

People are already going to great lengths to call this sequel a failure and it doesn't even have a script yet. You guys all did it with this first film.. and started betting against it the second the sequel was announced. Just the lengths some will go to convince that this next film will be crap lol..
I think the sequel will be even bigger.. and more successful than the first

Sadly it doesn't matter at this point what the script is like or whether it's actually good. Unless major changes are made to get any fans that watched and didn't like it or fans that stayed because they didn't like what they'd seen and heard if it then the most likely prediction is that will make around the same amount of money as the current movie. Whether that's a success or failure is probably subjective but I would say that I don't think Paramount is interested in a series of movies that struggle to make their budget back.

They had every right to make the movie they made but we as fans have every right to say how we feel about it. If they don't like the criticism, it they didn't like how a lot of stayed away then they should have made a different movie.

i really hope they ditch the cluttered gear in the next movie, trying to draw them, I really hate how messy the PD Turtles looks.

I can agree to this! EVERY time I draw them I look back and see that I missed/messed up a detail, and I still discover new details to them when I study stills XD No more details, pleeaaase...

Yeah, Donnie is such a cluttered mess. Granted, while I don't like their designs, I do appreciate the little details that the designs have, it isn't just huge kibble added on. Such as the duct taped electrical connector in his shoulder strap. But it's so much on them.

Drawing him, almost finished, I realized I had missed some details... Like his glasses.

O I can handle it just fine thank you lol. And how am I acting like you shouldn't have an opinion? Really? By disagreeing with what you said? Try harder

Did I call anyone a liar? Try not to put words in my mouth since it seems to be an issue you have with me.. and Sam lol. What I am saying is you shouldn't talk like you know what the circumstances were. You weren't there. And until they release info on how it all went down you should go on about it like any of it is fact.

Btw.. do you not remember Blue door? Do you understand that they made a lot of changes bc of fan outrage that had nothing to do with Shredder? If you read and try to actually understand what my point was.. That some people are just never satisfied. Even when a production bends over backwards to make people happy. Then have the nerve to act like the same production owes them or anyone an apology for making a film that they didn't end up liking. Seems like you picked out one sentence from my post and tried to paint me as a flip flopper lol.

So should someone that makes 200 grand a year be seen as not " successful " bc Trump makes millions in a year? It's not that difficult to understand.
By your logic any movie can be seen as unsuccessful as long as there is another movie that has made considerably more money. But im not surprised as some of you seem a bit desperate to take away any success this movie has garnered bc it hurts your over inflated ego's.

I know.. how dare us TMNT fans show enthusiasm for a TMNT movie in the friggin movie section of a TMNT forum. How dare us lol. A lot of you also said that the movie would flop and wouldn't have a sequel. So there is plenty of finger pointing to go around. So what's your point? Yes the movie is making more money than most expected. And it still has half of it's release dates to go.

You have the time frame quite wrong there Puddinpop. Heath Ledger died in January of 2008 and movie was released in July of the same year. He passed away before.

Uh.. this is getting a little redundant dude. I obviously meant died shorty after the film was SHOT! He started another film that he didn't end up finishing. What's the point? My point is is that I don't think his death was the reason the film did so well. It made money bc people loved it and it had great word of mouth. Ledgers performance was award winning. Literally. It was his performance and the fact that he was playing Joker. There are also the Nicholson fans that were curious. I think that even if Ledger were still with us that movie would have still made a billion bucks. No one died after shooting the third film and it made a billion bucks also. Yes.. They are all comic book films.. Very good. That is about it. And I swear when some of us " defenders " were making the comparisons to other comic book films when discussing strength and suspension of disbelief we were chastised lol.

I don't think this movies success is " subjective ". It's about money. It's budget was 125 million no? It's made double that so far with half of it's release dates still to go. Yea critics didn't enjoy this film. But fan consensus has been positive. Even in this website were the discussion seems to be negative all the time in every thread lol. Every poll the positives outweigh the negatives. Regardless of how many polls people try to open to get a different result  The film will make plenty of money and a sequel is on the way. Id say that's enough to call it a success. But that wont stop folks from comparing it to the success of other movies to belittle what success it has garnered. I feel neutral. I'd like to hope the writers and director will try harder but I'm not exactly optimistic.

Wasn't that the point I was trying to make.

I don't think anyone on this board has ever said that people aren't allowed opinions but certainly a tone of a post can imply that they shouldn't be voicing it. I find this ironic because I generally find that it's these same people to cry that they feel they aren't allowed to voice their opinions when challenged which is what you did earlier in this thread.

How am I putting words in your mouth?

You stated earlier you felt these film makers bent over backwards to make changes to please the fans that were complaining.

Then you berated me for what you felt was me assuming they'd made changes to the movie and pointed that we have zero proof that they changed anything and insinuated it was their plan all along to have a Japanese Shredder and the whole idea of William Fichtner playing him was a red herring meant to surprise fans as you argued on this board before in the past.

You flip flopped. You can't have it both ways. Either you think they changed things during shooting or they didn't. Now we know that they did unless you doubt interviews with people involved which would surprising given how you have berated members here in the past for not believing things the people involved say.

Btw.. do you not remember Blue door? Do you understand that they made a lot of changes bc of fan outrage that had nothing to do with Shredder? If you read and try to actually understand what my point was.. That some people are just never satisfied. Even when a production bends over backwards to make people happy. Then have the nerve to act like the same production owes them or anyone an apology for making a film that they didn't end up liking. Seems like you picked out one sentence from my post and tried to paint me as a flip flopper lol.

And perhaps you could try and understand my point was that it seems a lot of the changes they made while shooting had nothing to do with fan complaints because it involved aspects we either knew little or nothing of it.

It doesn't seem the changes to the Blue Door script seemed to come from anyone at Platinum Dunes but by orders from Viacom. Certainly at the section they has at the Paramount panel at Comic con they seemed defensive of the alien idea and baffled at why fans didn't care for it. (It also confirmed it was their plans were to make them aliens so I guess Michael Bay lied when he denied that ;))

I'd argue if they were sincere when they continually said they wanted to make a really faithful TMNT movie the very least they should have done is gotten what is generally recognized as the basic in there. It shouldn't have be forced on them by Viacom, the fans or anyone. They eventually relented and gave us a Japanese Shredder without any of the things that made us want a Japanese Shredder which isn't really bending over backwards so much as throwing a starving man a scrap and complaining he's still hungry afterwards.

They don't owe me or anyone an apology but if they want fans to go their movies and come out entertained they would think differently. Although based on what Michael Bay, Megan Fox and Andrew Form say then coming out entertained is the less important part of the equation.

It's only natural to compare a movie to it's peers and a lot of this movie's defenders had zero problems comparing it Guardians of the Galaxy months ago when they were predicting TMNT would beat it. Now it should be off topic?

If someone made 200 grand a year but spent 300 grand making it then perhaps successful is not the right term. The same applies with movies.

Of course it's not the be all and end all. Back in the day a movie that didn't do that well at the box office would get a sequel if they did well in home media releases.

These days it's more that if a movie doesn't do that well at the box office it can still get a sequel if there's reasons to believe they can improve those numbers. A good example are the Captain America and Thor movies which weren't huge earners but both sets of fans of those movies went along with fans of the Iron Man movies to see all three characters in The Avengers which made history and in turn increased the amount of people who went to the Captain America and Thor sequels.

Sadly TMNT doesn't have anything like that.

It does matter. A better script plays a role in having better movie. I'm sure most would agree that if this script wasnt chopped and reworked the film would have flowed better. But Paramount IS interested in making this a trilogy. The second film is now in the works and are you really going to make the same assumption that it tooo will fail and not make enough money to warrant a third? It's kind of sad to see in a TMNT forum.

I didn't say a sequel will fail. I've never said that this movie is a failure but rather that it isn't the runaway hit originally predicted. At numbers like this it's pretty subjective, anyone could call it a hit or flop and they'd a solid case.

I think it's a rather naive view that a better movie means more money. In a world were Star wars Episode I breaks records while Batman Begins makes a modest amount the industry can unfair like that.

A precedent has been set with this movie I think they've got to play the next movie differently if they want to not only win back people who walked away disappointed but people who didn't give the first a chance and didn't bother with it otherwise I think we'll land in the same ballpark.

Then why did have such a big increase from Batman Begins. Why such big opening day numbers when there was no word of mouth to speak of?

Part of this the rolling effect. Batman & Robin disappointed many people so less went to see Batman Begins, that movie was received better so more people went to see The Dark Knight.

You can also factor in the movie featured Batman's most iconic villain but even that doesn't explain why there was such a turnaround. It was the people wanting to see the final performance of an actor who dies in tragic circumstances that was the topper.

Yes.. They are all comic book films.. Very good. That is about it. And I swear when some of us " defenders " were making the comparisons to other comic book films when discussing strength and suspension of disbelief we were chastised lol.

I'm unsure what this means. While I do follow a lot of the discussion on this movie I inevitably miss some so I can't really comment. I will say that had this movie been treated like a lot of the current comic book movies I'd have been much happier.

So am I happy the movies getting a sequel? No not really. Its great to see that the there's still an audience out for the turtles and all but honestly I don't think the movie was all that goood. It was a sloppy, rushed, mess that was obviously edited to death. The main characters were boiled down to the bare bones of their archetypes, their arch enemty was a glorified special effect and everyone else was just kind of there. And the worst part of all was the plot made no sense. Sadly I don't see any of these problems being fixed in part 2 especially if the same team is still behind the wheel

Nope, I'm not happy about this at all, but there's nothing I can do about it except not see it. The reason I didn't give the first movie a chance was mainly because of the designs of the Turtles and the trailers. Nothing in them interested me or made me want to see the movie, so if the trailer isn't so awesome that it makes me want to see this movie and the designs are the same, I'm not going to bother. And I think they need to ditch the clothes for the Turtles. Couldn't stand seeing that.

To answer the question from the topic:
Since I saw the movie in a preview this week, I am appalled that such a bad movie is so successful. It seems to be the same phenomenon like the Transformers-movies. I just don't understand this kind of cinema and its success. So, no, I don't want this universe to expand. But as long as these movies are successful, there are good chances that this franchise won't be burned to the ground like "Batman & Robin" did with the Batman franchise. This should at least not lower the chances, that we will see someday an actual good TMNT-movie with the heart of the stuff the most of us love about the TMNT (at the latest when this franchise gets another reboot. And we all know that day will come. Probably sooner than later.).
So the success of the movie seems like a mixed blessing.

Am I happy about it? Sure. It'll maintain the series' popularity (not talking about just these movies, but the series as a whole). And the concept of Dimension X is, creatively, a lot more open-ended than the things they were dealing with in the first movie. So the reception may not be quite as harsh next time around - though I wouldn't put it past Bay to make it something ridiculous, so maybe I'm speaking too soon.

Am I surprised that it's going to happen? Not at all. There's no way they designed that Turtle Van just for the ending scene; certainly they had other plans for that thing.

Having finally seen this 'interpretation' I have to say a big HELL NO! I really wanted to like it but it wasn't Ninja Turtles. It was a cash grab plain and simple. So much was lacking they should just hit the restart and do it right. Kevin Eastman was a consultant on this??? nickelodeon was cool with this??? It just boggles the mind...

Reboot it for the love of God with the Right Director, Writers, Production Company, etc...

But since that aint gonna happen any real time soon and the sequel is now inevitable which will be PD again. I'm willing to put up with the designs (the Turtles NOT Splinter) and with the cast... even Megan but get rid of Shalloub and give Pete Ploszek a chance. Knoxville didn't add anything that Pete couldn't do.

BUT You Must Without Fail 100% Get These 2 Things RIGHT:

1) Write a solid freakin script, minimal to no plot holes, intelligent thought out scenarios and dialogue, vulnerable characters with soul & development not hulkish super strength giants, have a specific story that can't be cut and pasted into 'any other' film...you get the idea... seriously...it's not that hard...this is what you get paid for.

2) Get a director who can direct a freakin fight scene, they're ninjas yes but when they fight you should SEE it and it should be skilled, creative, fluent moves, not brute force conquers all.

If and that's a big big IF they can get those 2 Things Right then yeah it has a chance but do they care enough to do it....

I can't wait for the sequel I loved this movie as I loved the transformer movies. I also want a sequel just to see how enraged some people get over the movie.

It's nice to know you are easily entertained and hold absolutely the lowest possible standard for the TMNT. Congrats, the low standards is probably why the TMNT will never be held to esteem like Batman, Superman, Ironman and other reputable comic book movies, because people like you easily accept the low brow.

Dude that's kinda mean. Just because someone likes the movie doesn't give you the right to criticize other people's opinions.

If there's an offer to watch the sequel for free, by buying a TMNT DVD, then I'll probably watch it. I just hope they won't take forever to show off the Turtles again.

Actually, in context to what the pro movie people do, it's perfectly acceptable. If any of us was not happy about anything about the movie, we were labeled haters, purists, fanboys, snobs and whatnot! And like it or not, the movie is designed for the lowest common denominator.

A lot of people liked the movie. Just accept it. Insulting people will just make them less willing to read your opinion because you're being PERSONAL about it. There is no need for personal attacks. I don't know how many times I have to say it.

And yes, there are pro-movie people who have been equally as obnoxious. I tell them the same thing. Being a jerk about your opinion or other's opinions just makes it harder for people to come together about Anything. You do not change their minds about the movie, only their opinion about You.

No offense, but honestly, I really don't care what people think of me, nor am I trying to change anybody's mind, I'm just stating that I don't think the movie is offering anything, and I don't think much of the reasons people are using who are cheerleaders of the movie. Nothing more, nothing less. And I also believe that in time, this movie verse will fade to existence pretty much like Next Mutation did, except for maybe a few sound bites here and there. I don't understand what the big deal is here.

I liked the movie too but there was a lot to be desired. I felt that there were times that they didn't focus as much on the turtles. And when they did, they kind of focused on the humor aspect rather than the dark and gritty aspects which greatly contradicts the whole redesign issue. And I just disliked the whole origin of how the turtles and Splinter came to be.

It's a movie with potential but they didn't take full advantage of what it could have been in my eyes.

I don't expect much from a movie about 4 turtles and their rat sensei fighting a ninja master and his ninja clan while befriending a news reporter.

To be fair, at one point people would have said the same about pretty much any comic/superhero movie. But a lot of people - filmmaker, producers, actors and audiences - have raised their expectations and demands and now we're getting superhero films that are legitimately good movies instead of... well, this:

QzE4Hv6Z-yk

It's totally your right to enjoy whatever you enjoy, of course. And I don't expect anyone else to share my tastes. But I don't think it's too unreasonable to expect a TMNT movie that's a good movie on its own terms. Comic movies that are widely loved by audiences, fans and critics have kinda become the norm these days. The bar's already at that level.

Why must tmnt be held as such a low regard and not be taken serious enough to compete with the other bigger better and well thought out superhero movies? Why is it considered low enough to be put through the bayformers treatment?

Are you fans at all? Don't you consider that the characters of your fandom (and reason of you coming to this forum to begin with) deserve better? Or are you really that desperate that any piece of Draco with the tmnt label is automatically the most awesome thing ever without caring about quality or if it's even good or not.

Well, wasn't really directly comparing them - just making a point re: levels of quality. At the time that's about all anyone expected of these properties.

And while the BayTurtles movie has expensive special effects and production values, I still feel that the writing is poor, the plot is illogical and nonsensical (even by the standards of the world it established) and there's just no heart or emotion to the thing. And that's the stuff that makes all the difference. All I'm really asking for it good writing and directing, a story that makes sense, and characters I care about. And this failed on all counts.

Yeah. Those are all valid points I agree on. I was also comparing them because the older cap films were made with the idea of 'who cares it's a comic book movie', which is kinda what this one suffered. 'We'll just make a lot of explosions and action. Toss in cgi, Megan fox bending over and throw in a pizza scene and have the orange one say cowabunga at least once and bam. The suckers will eat it up. Worked for transformers....'

Tmnt deserved something better with heart and effort and made by people that actually gave a damn.

Not saying they're 'allowed to' just saying it happens to be that particular group people seem to be the ones that are giving this movie such huge praise. Same reason we got 3 transformers sequels and as far as we know we might get 3 more. Kinda hard to be fan of something and then support something that spits in the face of said fandom. That's contradicting oneself and questioning their fandom to begin with.

And being a casual fan or someone that just wants action for the sake if action isn't the same as me calling someone a half-wit. Don't put words in my mouth. Liking bad movies isn't a knock against ones intelligence. Some people just do.

And if anything the movie is fan-bashing and insulting. It's implying they can churn out whatever nonsense and we'll still eat up and make them millions. And whoops. Seems the 'half-wits' you speak of proved them right.

Well forgive me for wanting a good movie. Tmnt will never get the credit and respect the big guns do in the movies until someone that actually gives a damn stands up to the plate.

I agree about the shredder scene. Like I said it have me hopes I'd enjoy the movie.... And then the rest of the movie happened.

I can't recall any family comedy unless you count the elevator scene and the turtles adrenaline scene. There was barely any family bonding except 'splinter is extreme to punish his sons'

Snow chase went on way guy too long for me but I did like how Leo was basically taser bait.

Exactly. It's that line of thinking that made this movie so much money, and risks the sequels being just as bad (or worse) and make even more money.

I'll go ahead and agree with Anton, here. I'm 27, as well, and I've loved TMNT all my life. And I loved this movie, too.

Did the movie have plot issues? Absolutely. But we all understand that there was a massive patch job in the eleventh hour so, I don't see why we're still harping on it.

For me, it felt like being a kid again. The turtles' personalities, their banter, and the action - it all felt very much like the old cartoon. (Seriously, the subway fight, the downhill chase, meeting April on the roof. You can imagine those scenes in OT.) Not everyone would think that's most important for a great turtles movie, but I guess I do.

That doesn't make me a casual, or someone who doesn't remember his childhood. I'd rather have a turtles movie that's actually fun than (and I use this example a lot) a well-written Dark Knight that sacrifices the humor, fun and fantasy that I grew up with, in the name of being super cereal.

I feel like Batman and Robin just came out, and all the Burton fans are raging out, and there's that one Batman 66 fan saying, "What? This is everything I love."

I'd actually dare say Batman and Robin as a stand-alone film isn't all that bad, especially if you do consider it an updated Adam West Batman. It just fails hard as a sequel to what came before.

Did Batman suddenly suffer some bizzare mid-life crisis and think 'hmmm I'm too dark, I'll lighten it up a little bit'. Nostalgia Critic was spot-on with his review. 'The same Batman that was so paranoid over Vicki Vale snapping a few pics of him is now showing up at bachelor auction parties?'. And yeah... Keaton Batman wouldn't be using a 'Bat Credit Card' and this is supposed to be the same character here.

Folks uploaded all of the fights/action bits onto youtube, and they were rather lame. Especially for a big budget movie.

Like that subway fight ...you can't even tell anything that was going on. Epileptic lighting, random folks got thrown, and confusing editing (which Turtle threw the Foot upwards in order to smash into the lights up above? Who knows). It's cool if folks enjoy it, but I don't understand what's so great about that fight.

The only one people in general even remember/talk about is a downhill snow chase. So again, it's funny that a movie called Ninja Turtles has its' one 'Primary Action Scene' (that people remember) be a sequence that involves no Martial Arts and nothing 'Ninja' about it.

Even the fight with Shredder at the end was 'we get our ass kicked 97% of the time, and then do 2 or 3 things'. Let alone the 'Raph getting beat down by Shredder' and not even getting a couple of good hits in. You could still have Raph get beaten (and promote the idea that all 4 of them would need to get together to beat Shredder) And Still have Raph at least get A FEW good hits in (and no, he didn't. I just saw the scenes for myself on Youtube). So, no worthy/decent fights in a brand new/big budget Turtles film is a pretty big fail.

Plus they had this other sequence on youtube...and Wow, they even missed a great opportunity of having all 4 Turtles just going to town on the Foot before they get into the elevator scene. But instead, they just wave and run to the elevator. Because, hell, this new film could have taken a page from the 2007 CGI TMNT flick with their 'Turtles vs. The Foot' sequence.

And I hate to say it, but I will give credit to the 2007 film. Because honestly? That 'Foot vs. The Turtles' sequence, the Raph Vs. Leo fight, and the fight with the Stone Generals were better action sequences than Anything in this movie. It showed that they could actually fight, they didn't get their asses kicked 97% of the time, and it actually showed their Martial Arts skills

God forbid that they couldn't even get that portion right for the Turtles in this new flick, when I can see Well Done Fight Scenes with Expertly Crafted Choreography in low-budget/Direct to DVD Action films.

Not sure whether to blame Jonathan Liebesman or the screen writers for the lackluster fights, but I also thought that they were rather lame and poorly shot.

They looked utterly bland and cheap, which I assume had to be the directors fault.

This is something I've been debating about, internally, for some time. I've always been hard on sequels like Joel Schumacher's Batman films, Superman 3, Secret of the Ooze. But is it really fair to criticize a sequel for a change in tone or silliness? Even though there's a continuity there, is there an obligation to make sequels that feel like the original? Especially when there's a different director? I'm not sure.

Yes, there is. Otherwise you make it into a reboot or something else. You can't grab a movie with an established character and personality and then have his story continue with a complete 180 of his character completely contradicting what we saw before with no rhyme or reason.

The Batman we saw in the Burton films is NOT the same dude we saw in the Schumacher films. Alternate actor aside, he's supposed to be the same character. The Batman we saw in the first two movies would not turn himself into a celebrity (as Batman) and turn into a smiling goof.

Sadly the TMNT kinda suffered the same thing in Secret of the Ooze. Personality wise they were pretty much the same, except for the bizzare decision to suddenly stop using their weapons (yeah, I know the real world reason, but what was the in-universe reason? at least have Splinter forbid them or whatever) the dancing in public at the Vanilla Ice concert clashed with how careful they're supposed to be about keeping from being seen. That and the sudden disappearance of Casey without any reason or mention.

But yeah to answer the question... if you choose to continue the work of someone else, then yes, it is your responsibility to continue the story and keep the characters in check. Imagine a Harry Potter sequel where Harry got all 'EXTREME!!!!1111' because a new director saw fit.

I can at least excuse the subway scene cause you weren't supposed to see the turtles clearly on purpose. I think that was before April met them proper.

The rest I completely agree with. Plus, they weren't ninjas when it came to fighting. They were basically football players/hulks. All about overpowering. Ninja skills be damned. Honestly has Splinter predicted they would have grown to be so huge, he woulda skipped the martial arts all together and taught them basic street fighting... which is kinda what we saw anyway.

This is everything I love." I feel like that last sentence sums it up perfectly. Just like with batman and Robin it comes down to what type of fan you are and what you love about the characters in the first place. It's easy to see how someone who wanted a live action version of the original toon could be happy with the movie and there's nothing wrong with them feeling that way. It's just that some of us were hoping for something different. Im 28. I grew up with the old show and loved it. I watched it every day, but it's also something I grew out of and if i never found out there was a more mature side and older skewing material I probably wouldn't be as much of a fan as I am today. What I was hoping to get from a new movie was something a little more mature. Badass ninja treachery with some sci fi mixed in and some decent humor. Not necessarily completely dark and gritty but at least able to strike the same kind of balance we've been getting in other tmnt stuff lately. That being said i could probably deal with it better if my only problem was that it didnt fit my specific fan sensibility. It's the problems with the plot that bother me the most. 11th hour patch job just says to me that they either never had any idea what they were doing or not enough confidence to stick to their guns after they saw the backlash.

.... Except it wasn't like the cartoon. Sure they had April as a reporter and Vernon but hey April was a reporter in the old movie too and it was more mirage based than anything. Sure it had a homage here and there but it was nothing like the cartoon of yesteryear starting with the designs and everything. We barely saw any of the turtles to even know if they were based on the old cartoon other than cowabunga.

Sorry but batman and Robin had way more in common with the Adam West show than this one had with the 80s cartoon show. Sure a homage here and a reference there but very VERY far from it.

I'm also surprised by the amount of people acting all nostalgic over this movie when it's nothing like the old cartoon AND there is a new cartoon airing currently. It's not like the turtles have been gone for years.

And about the plot being changed last minute... It was for the better. People should stop bringing that up. Sachs being shredder was just a bad idea no matter how they try to justify it. People complain about the plot reshoot as if the original was closer to the comic/cartoon and the reshoot added mecha-shredder or something when it was the other way around. However this one cane out, the original script with shredsachs trying to 'make heroes' with the turtles is even worse and even further away from the general concept. Don't call it tmnt then if you don't want to make a tmnt movie.

I still laugh about that whole Kevin Eastman referencing 'The Raid: Redemption' when talking about the fights/action. Or the whole 'Fist of Legend/The Raid' that apparently the director 'shared/had in common' with Eastman on what they were going through (and yes, I know Eastman didn't have any say on it...but the fact he kept saying on how the director was mentioning it, and then he kept repeating that line of dialogue again & again...)

I wish someone would go up and ask him about that.

And you can even do it without being a douchebag about it, with a simple 'so, whatever happened to that? Was that changed at the last minute too?'

Have to agree. It's sad, when a 40 minute cartoon on Nick has more badass fights in it than a 125 million dollar, 100 minute movie! And, it managed to even get some emotional scenes thrown in and character development. In 40 minutes! Paramount and company just should have thrown Invasions parts one and two on the big screen, it would have saved them a lot of money!

This! My brother and I have just started catching up with the 2012 TMNT series and we were on the edge of our seats and giving each other high fives during some of the scenes. We didn't get that feeling whatsoever when we went to our advanced screening of the film and I remember just wanting the movie to be over as that final fight with Shredder was going down. It didn't feel meaningful or earned.

I really like the way you described the experience. I felt the same.

I've been on a bad movie bad luck spree with a couple of movies that were a chore to finish, they were so disappointing. The characters were bland, the plots textbook formula, and I couldn't wait to finish them. (Or couldn't).

I did not feel that way about TMNT, even with the weak and formulaic plot. I felt an instant bond with all four turtles and their portrayals, and I had a great time whenever they were on screen. I really wanted to see these turtles develop, because I liked where things were going around the shaky story. The scene with the lair getting destroyed while Splinter/the brothers tried to defend themselves hit me big time. The little time they had to develop, they hooked me right away. I left the theater wanting and wishing I had more, more, MORE, instead of thanking the gods it had finally ended and I could put it behind me. Seriously, those four actors could have easily carried the movie with a simple plot. They almost did manage to carry a messy, saturated plot. I have since watched it again and I sit and look forward to the turtle scenes.

Just felt like putting some positives out there for four portrayals of TMNT that brought smiles (aka doofus grins) to at least one picky little fan. Considering some of my fandoms are experiencing tumbleweed syndrome at present, I am loving that TMNT is thriving in different media right now. It's a great time to be a fan.

Same here. I really enjoyed these version of turtles, so props to the actors who portrayed them.

But the problem for me is that, I want them to be placed in a better movie.

Design wise or character wise? The designs need a LOT of work and character wise... We barely knew them. I felt the lair scene didn't mean as much cause we don't even know these guys. And then shredder and splinter somehow know each other? And then they capture the turtles for the mutagen blood and not splinter?? Just so much wrong in one scene.

Nostalgia is clouding your judgement. Most of your feels are coming from the turtles you've seen in past versions but this is a whole new universe and a whole new version and so far these turtles are nothing past a few one liners and Mikey's perving over April. It's like Raph apologizing for a bunch of crap we never got to see in the movie. Whatever we know of Raph in other incarnations DOES. NOT. COUNT. so whatever he's blubbering about loses all meaning and has no impact. At least in the first one we got to know the turtles and saw them interact with splinter a lot more before he was kidnapped. It was more emotional.

I honestly don't see how 'nostalgia' even plays a role in this. These are NOT the turtles you grew up with, or any other version for that matter. They're roid raged wannabes. In one example, when I saw the scene of Batman's debut in Batman Begins, now THAT'S nostalgia. Batman lurking in the shadows, picking off the bad guys one by one, the bad guys scared no knowing where he would strike next. THAT'S Batman. It's a 'new interpretation' because he was never like that in any movie before that. Burton's Batman tried, but he didn't capture the whole 'lurking in the shadows, where will he strike next' feel that this movie had, so this is the first time we've ever seen that kind of thing on the big screen. But THAT'S how Batman works, so this new interpretation works. This version of the TMNT on the other hand.... um... well they're green..... they have shells...? They got the names, colors and weapons right.... cept for Raph's doorag. That's barely enough for it to be anything close to nostalgic, unless it's been that long that you forgot what the turtles were like.

A sequel better give the turtles more screen time, down time and character moments so we can actually care about these characters.

Well In my opinion, they kinda are. And I loved every moment when those "roid raged wannabes" were on screen.

But characterization in this movie was awful. So you're right, without my nostalgia, I wouldn't really have gotten to know these turtles that well.

I'm not saying how they should feel. I'm just confused as to where the nostalgia is coming from when there is none. Or did I miss the scene when the turtles were fighting bebop and rocksteady with robot foot soldiers while actually looking like themselves? It barely looks and feels like a tmnt movie. Or is the nostalgia coming from Megan fox to remind us of the first two transformers movies?

You know if you had asked me before I saw the movie I would have told you how adamantly I opposed a sequel. I was going off of leaked info, the pictures of the Turtles, and just nostalgia of how it should be. I had those fan boy glasses on and I wasn't going to see the movie.

Then I had a friend who wanted me to so bad he offered to pay. I felt justified in seeing it as i hadn't given any of my money to see it. I really liked it. It was far better then I thought it would be. In fact I would go as far as saying it is my second favorite Turtle movie, first of course the original.

The heart was there, the humor, the action it all felt like TMNT to me. So now I'm stoked for a sequel I can't wait to see what they add to the mix.

Pretty much the Transformers formula. The movie makers assume the audience already in one way or the other know the characters.

As with PD TMNT, we never see Raph do the things he apologize for in the "emotional" speech he had at the end. But we know by default Raph is the badass loner who bullies others but still got a mushy center inside. He wants to go solo, but we never really see why he wants to go solo. it's just who he is.

Casey in a PD movie, will probably never be explained why he fight crime, cause we all "know" from other media why he does it.

Comic book movies are actually in a place were they really are coming into their own but these guys hardly tried to please the fans.

More than that it really doesn't work as a movie in itself. The flaws - which even the fans of the movie agree are there are way too big and too numerous that I would argue if this wasn't a TMNT movie those flaws would matter a whole lot more to them.

I do not like the old toon. Also, I think a lot of the Mirage stories are dumb and boring. But I appreciate that people like those incarnations. It's not bad, just not something I'll ever like. But so what? They aren't wrong for liking it and I'm not wrong for disliking it.

The divide over this movie has a lot to do with people having hopes and expectations that a certain tone or version or whatever was going to be portrayed...and it wasn't. Some can get by that, some can't.

Well I dont like the old cartoon, nor do I really care for the Mirage comics at the moment. It really wouldn't matter to me if it was either a dark or a light tone, the movie was just terribly done.

It was just a very bad film in my opinion.

The 'Divide' over this movie is mostly and simply those who just wanted a good story that did justice to the franchise regardless of tone.

Yeah, there are those like me who prefer a darker tone with subtle humour but still this movie failed on basic storytelling in every single way. Casting and designs aside which were questionable to begin with but NOT the main problem you are left with the script...the bastard child of blue door. They really didn't improve much on it did they? Mix that in with some very poor dumber than dumb choices in terms of physics, no character development, needless creepy harassment sexual humour from a beloved character and generic hulk smash fight scenes for highly trained skilled ninjas and you have a BAAAAAAAD Movie whether it is TMNT or not. (and these are only some things of where this movie failed from a storytelling point of view)

If any other franchise were treated like TMNT was here I guarantee you there would be as much as a divide. Imagine if they did this to a Marvel or DC Franchise...

So yeah, the divide is more than I wanted the movie this way or the I hate bay camp, it's simply I wanted something good because the TMNT franchise and fans at least deserve that and I got crap.

Coola Yagami

Exactly. We wanted a good movie. We didn't get one. The divide comes from those that despite all the flaws that are smacking them in the face every five seconds in the movie, still claim it's a good movie and violently defend it. You kinda can't say a movie is good if you have to say 'well the movie is good despite this, that, this, and then that, and also...'. That kinda takes away the fact that it's actually good.

There's also the fact that if you're doing a super new complete new take without basing it on anything that came before it..... then why even call it as such? Just make your own movie about something new and original then if you can't get the story right. If you're gonna make Batman fly and shoot lasers and have metallic arms, that still has his parents alive and well and it takes place in East LA, why even call it Batman?

I swear this almost feels like it was some weird movie about aliens fighting an invading robot with an army of soldiers or whatever.... and that flopped, but to save money, let's just add a few changes here and there, a couple of references, slap the TMNT label on it and we can market this as a TMNT movie instead. I know that's not the case, but I honestly would not be surprised if years down the line in some tv show looking back someone would come out and be like 'well we had this script lying around about alien heroes that we filmed some stuff for and didn't wanna throw it out and we remembered that TMNT was getting popular again so.....'

I understood you perfectly clear, which is why I was able to state clearly that you are wrong. We want good writing, good acting, a plot without holes, & ninja stuff. Didn't really get any of that. Not a matter of bias for expectation rooted in past versions. My hatred for this film has nothing to do with it not being closer to my ideal version. (Although my ideal version would borrow from all versions to create a definitive TMNT experience) My hatred stems from it being a horrible film that mistreats characters I love. It also stems from destroying it's own internal logic at every turn to push the plot forward.

I'll stand by my assessment that it's probably the worst thing I've seen.

Yea, but every movie has its flaws. Even the ones you just mentioned had WTF moments...
like remember at the end of The Avengers when all the Chitauri conveniently go dead after Iron Man sent the nuke?

There's no such thing as a flawless movie but that shouldn't be a pass to excuse movies that have an abundance of flaws.

Yes the example you gave is silly but it's hardly unique to Avengers. You might argue that it's not necessarily flaw per se but imagine this; if earlier in the movie Loki or The Other had given a speech about how the Chitauri were completely independent beings un-reliant on any power source and then they shut down when their ship goes boom then it would be a flaw as it contradicts what's earlier been said. I think TMNT 2014 has stuff that is just like that.

That's sometimes a part of it, but there are enough things in this movie to criticize from a simple writing/storytelling perspective that tanked it for a lot of people. And plenty of us have very clearly and thoroughly explained what those are.

Honestly, TMNT fans are very used to different takes on the property and generally adapt pretty well. Like Powder said, the Nick show and the IDW comic are both all about combining elements from very disparate versions of the property into their own new cohesive wholes, and both of them are very popular around here. So I don't think it's fair to say that's the whole reason the movie's divisive. For a lot of us, it's just because the movie was pretty badly written and produced.

I mean, I don't expect that everyone's going to see it the way I do, or have the same expectations about this movie, or any movie in particular. For a lot of people I'm sure this hit the right notes. That's fine for them. That's a matter of personal taste and everyone's entitled to their own.

But I really don't like the insinuation that not liking this movie solely comes down to closed-mindedness or bias. I honestly feel there was a lot in this movie that was objectively bad, especially in the writing. And I don't think there should be a problem with saying that. It's not any less of a fact than saying Legend of Chun Li, Catwoman, Electra, X Men Last Stand and the first Hulk movie were bad.

I have seen some people that did honestly like this movie and gave some very valid reasons for doing so. Most everyone else however.... did seem pretty bias, and mostly lost to their own blind fanboyism.

It's not some crusade. It's just the way it is. We've already gone back and compared the previous movies and how they fared as time went on. Opinions are pretty spot on on the first four movies, which ones were good, which ones were bad and the reasons why, with of course those with differing opinions. This is the only movie with such a strong divide, and it's mostly due to those that just can't see past the label and see this effortless hack of a movie for what it is.

Sorry but those that like this crap for little more than 'hey it's turtles' are comparable to those that like the Transformers movies only cause 'hey, giant robots'. The sequels are crap, yet they continue to make big bucks. And more sequels will come. Cause people keep seeing them. As long as Bay and Co don't see a decrease in sales, they'll just keep crankin em out. And you're basically letting them win by admit you'd rather see a mindless waste of time over an actual well-done movie. Honestly, with numbers like these, why should they even try with a sequel? They can honestly do whatever crap they want, just toss in Bebop and Rocksteady for 20 minutes and you have a garaunteed number 1 for a few weekends.

Call it a crusade, or hatred, or 'not being able to stomach it' or whatever. I'm just saying how things really are. I can also turn around and say you guys 'can't stomach' the fact that your oh-so-perfect movie isn't actually all that good.

Hey, please don't use words like "sperg" as insults. Asbergers is an actual syndrome that effects a lot of people, very possibly some posting here (or anywhere online), so it's pretty offensive to use it as a derogatory term like this.

What do I see?

-there was too much April. (Expectation issue)
-the action was not ninja/not full of turtles/ whatever (expectation issue)
-the plot was weak (expectation issue)
-the origin story was weak and dumb (huge expectation issue)

Hey, don't forget:
-the movie was sloppily cobbled together into an inconsistent whole from multiple rewrites and some reshoots
-the plot didn't hold up logically even on an internal level
-the writing and directing were sub-par overall

So what's the problem here, in your opinion? That some of us expected a movie that wasn't a total mess? The "problem" is us, because we expect a movie to hit a certain level of quality?

I think it's pretty reasonable to expect a decent and consistent plot in any movie. And actual ninja-style action in a movie with NINJA in the title. But hey, if you'd rather blame the audience than the people who actually made the thing, I guess that's your prerogative.

people say that the "like the movie" crowd has nostalgia glasses on. I could go on and on about the nostalgia glasses of the "dislike the movie" camp but I can see that it would not be worth my effort. I'd only get childish rage in response.

I think you've gotten some reasonable responses. But it feels like you're misrepresenting an entire "group" of people just because you don't like their opinion. People have very reasonable, valid complaints about this movie, and writing all of that off as "expectation issues" is really dismissive.

If you don't like the complaints and can't/won't debate them on their own terms, please feel free to ignore 'em.

- It's a TMNT movie, not an April movie. Someone forgot to give the production crew the memo that the Turtles were the leading roles and main characters
- ninja action in a ninja turtles movie? crazy, ikr? were you expecting boxing?
- plot was weak as all hell even if it wasn't a TMNT movie
- origin was weak as all hell even if it wasn't a TMNT movie

- I honestly don't see all that many people complaining about Bay or Fox all that much. They're mostly complaining from faults of the actual movie from within the movie. Though one has to admit the movie follows the same tropes the Bay Transformers movies do. Do you really think if some other director was in charge we would have had boner jokes?

- Pretty sure everyone that is complaining actually saw the movie. I have not seen one person say 'I haven't seen the movie, and don't plan to but man does it suck'. All the complainers actually saw it and are given valid complaints on things one would only know if they sat through that garbage of a movie.

Nostalgia glasses is probably the only way to somehow enjoy this tripe. I'm sorry if the movie decided to chew mine up and spit them out.

And sequels don't mean crap. How many sequels do the Transformers movies have? Do you REALLY want to lower yourself to the same standards as the people that continue to throw their money at that franchise just so they can crank out more and more sequels? Do you really want THAT for the Turtles? And here I thought most people here liked the Turtles.

I've often seen the argument that it's "wrong" to judge tnr movie on how it does doesn't live up to expectations based on matching previous versions but it seems this is a bit of an odd twist...

-there was too much April. (Expectation issue)
-the action was not ninja/not full of turtles/ whatever (expectation issue)
-the plot was weak (expectation issue)
-the origin story was weak and dumb (huge expectation issue)

Baring in mind that people did expect all that stuff going in given the knowledge of previous works of the team making it how are the examples above not justifiable reasons for people to dislike the movie?

Surely it's an acceptable expectation that the movie's titular characters be the main focus. Likewise that the plot be at least decent and make a basic level of sense or that something important to the central premise (in this case martial arts) be present.

It's a bit like saying we expected a good movie and got a bad movie but we're somehow not allowed to dislike or voice out displeasure at said bad movie.

-I'll never watch this movie because of Bay/ Megan Fox/ the N O S T R I L S.

I'm pretty sure most people here have watched it regardless of whatever misgivings they may have about Michael Bay or Megan Fox's involvement.

I also think that it that it's generally agreed that Megan Fox herself wasn't really a problem and I've heard more than a few people say that the movie would have been better directed by Bay so surely there's not that much Bay-Fox "haters" here.

I think judging ANY movie without seeing it is ridiculous. period.

Again I'm sure most people have seen it by now unless it's yet to be released where they are. Casting final judgement is silly but I think there was enough readily available data out for people to have a good idea whether this movie would appeal to them or not.

Isn't that the point of cast and creator interviews and trailers and a special on Nickelodeon etc to convince people it's a movie worth their time. It seems they didn't do an adequate job.

Not to mention that there were plenty of people convinced ahead of time that weren't shy of saying how this would be the best movie ever and that trailers had them shivering with excitement that they just knew it would be awesome all before seeing the actual movie. If they could make up their minds I think anyone can dislike it based on the same.

For me personally I thought it looked bad but seeing it was actually worse than I thought. Of course the things I didn't like before going - like the design of the turtles didn't change once I'd seen it in full "context". I actually thought it was a weird and slightly patronizing that we couldn't judge what we were seeing without the full movie. Even if I'd generally liked everything else I still would have disliked the designs, I didn't need to see the full movie movie to form that opinion.

that being said, recently i had lunch with one of my old college professors and some old classmates.and he told us one of the reasons the movies of today lack story is mainly do to the over seas market. hollywood figures they don't understand the language so why bother putting a story and only focus on the explosions and actions

and in a way they arnt wrong ....look at the movies making the big bucks and the directors getting work..and look at the movies that did well here but not over seas

I don't recall people saying they hated the movie without seeing it. That just doesn't make sense, verbally. There were PLENTY of people who seemed to get a kick out of telling everyone it looked terrible, they wouldn't waste money on it, they'd rather see Guardians, etc. And it was the same people saying it every single day, in every thread where it was even remotely relevant.

Granted, there were plenty of people doing the same thing, saying how great it would be, and how they can't wait to see it. But complaining is just more annoying, by default.

people say that the "like the movie" crowd has nostalgia glasses on. I could go on and on about the nostalgia glasses of the "dislike the movie" camp but I can see that it would not be worth my effort. I'd only get childish rage in response. so what you're saying is that as you see it the problem is that people came into this with the wrong expectations? I can't really agree with that because even if you have no previous knowledge of anything involving tmnt the title itself leads you to expect certain things. You expect the title characters to be the focus of the movie and you expect them to be ninjas and do ninja stuff. The plot not being weak and the characters origins making sense is just general criteria a lot people have when judging any kind of storytelling. The lack of either one of those is a pretty valid criticism. Also like galactus mentioned there were quite a few people who expected at least one of if not all of these things months before the movie even came out so it's not like most of us went in expecting high art in the first place. I think the problem isnt so much expectations as it is standards and what people look for in entertainment. There are a lot of things one could find wrong with this movie besides what's listed above. It's rushed, obviously super edited, full of plot holes, hand waves, and contrivances. Not to mention it relies a lot on its audience being familiar with its content going in and to me that makes it feel more like an else world's tale than its own new universe. Now from what ive seen it seems like the majority of people acknowledge these things are definitely there but reactions are across the board. Some of us are put off by them, some of us focus on what ever positives we see, and some of us just go with the turn your brain off and enjoy the ride approach. It's all subjective.

i mean i want the phase one avengers set but i cant see myself shelling out 100+ dollars for it

But complaining is just more annoying, by default.

To you. Others might find the cheerleading more annoying by their standards. It's all pretty subjective.

But this kind of thing is where a lot of the bickering originates, isn't it? People on either "side" are guilty of the same general behaviour, but they'll give it a pass from their own side while getting emotional and hostile when it comes from the other.

This. Not to mention people willing to shell out 80 bucks for it. Statue or no statue that's still too much for this mess. What was that about a fool and his money?
Mess?

Who the hell cares??? it's not your concern what people want to spend their money on!

Yes the DVD box set comes with a sweet Raphael figure/statue! and I'm willing to pay for it! guess that makes me a fool..

And the folks at PD laugh themselves to the bank. Thank you for supporting their half assed mess.

Lmao. Honestly, why even try with a sequel. You're all gonna buy it anyway. And it'll probably cost over 100 and come with a Leo statue and you'll all still buy it anyway lmao.

Thanks for allowing your standards to sink that low. This one's just not for me. Wake me when the reboot happens.

you are right..no one should and cant tell you how to spend your money...but again this has nothing to do with the movie itself...maybe wait and see a review of the statue before you drop 80 bucks on it

cause really who is to say its worth the extra 40/50 dollars , remember its only a 6 inch statue no bigger than say a marvel select figure or the tmnt classics line

i know the picture shows it much bigger than the dvd box

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61pTKpM%2BGeL._SL1500_.jpg

but its just trick photography and decent Photoshop work

just look ,from the description itself

The figure stands 6.5 inches tall atop a detailed street scene display base,
if you want the movie get it..im not saying skip it...just dont fall for the exclusive gimmick with the higher price point

Collectibles aren't my bag. I wouldn't pay twenty bucks for that statue. But it's still neat, as far as collectors edition bonuses go. And it's clear what it is. It's not like anyone's getting duped if they decide they want it.

If the statue were of Leo rather than Raph, even I would consider it. But it does kinda suck that the scale is misrepresented & that it's a lot smaller than one might think.

Man, I guess I'm one of the fools that didn't check the specs of the figure. :/

Ditto on this if it was a good reproduction of...

But for wallet's sake I guess it's for the best that it's not. Despite my reservations I'd have a hard time not wanting that.

The size though.. bleh. Request sequel statue, all Turtles choices and bigger...

Granted, 6.5 inches sounds short in your mind, but it's taller than you think. Not saying it is or isn't worth the money...but don't be fooled into thinking that the thing's puny.

Right! I actually like Leo's design for the most part, so I totally would buy that statue, even if the paint weren't as good as the scale model. Oh well! Like you said, better for our bucks it's not. So much turtle stuff out these days.

If they were charging like 20 bucks for it maybe. But for 80... Then yeah.

I'm also surprised they're making such a big deal out of this. Even releasing 4 different covers based in each turtle. I guess the game plan is 'if we cover this crap with as many bows as possible maybe they'll forget it crap'.

to be fair sam, the pic is very misleading and one who doesnt read the full description is in for a shock when it comes in..and yes there are a few who thought it was going to be a 12inch statue

They most likely did that to showcase the detail, more so than to sugarcoat it. But it IS misleading...can't deny that.

Here's a conundrum;

So the 2014 TMNT movie is most likely just go over breaking even and making it's budget back.

We've heard that if Leibesman is involved he wants to include Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady in a sequel. Let's say that they'll want a decent name to play Casey which will require decent paycheck and with two new mutants most likely portrayed in motion capture like the turtles, Splinter and Shredder it seems that they'll need to increase their budget a fair bit for a sequel.

So basically if the next movie also makes around the same amount of money then with the increased budget there more of a chance they are no longer breaking even.

That's even assuming it will make around the same and not less. Let's say a third (and that's a low ball estimate) of cinema goers walked away disappointed with this movie how do entice them back? More importantly how to persuade people who stayed away this year to give a sequel a chance?

What's the chance that the Casey Jones actor will be coming from one of Michael Bay's stables? Either one of his directed movies or produced ones?
