True, I also expect them to put those Season 10 episodes on the final boxset again (four of them were bonus eps on the 1st set), in their proper order when we get up to it.

I'm actually expecting all 24 episodes of Seasons 8-10 to be put on the same boxset together, since they all represent the final opening and ending of the original series.

Here's hoping we get a Season 6 boxset sometime in Nov/Dec, and then a Season 7 boxset comes out April '08, and we get a Seasons 8-10 boxset sometime after that in mid '08. That would be ideal and what I'm hoping for, so we should have all of the original series on DVD by the middle of '08 if all goes well.

gobo 05-29-2007 03:40 PM

Then, the Season 3 can be revisited with a flimsy lil' cardboard box. But, what would it take for non-collectors to punchase said set? I'm sure bonus interviews would be a welcome addition. And, would anyone but me like to see them reissue Season 1 with an option to see the uncut eps or 'The Epic Begins'? It would just be so much more appropriate than a handful of random eps from Season 10 plus I have the morbid curiosity of just how badly they butchered the pilot mini-series.

I would like to see that too. I am intrigued at the idea of seeing any footage that would have been cut from any of the eps, especially the pilot mini-series :)

Not sure myself, but had read somewhere the "Epic Begins" video basically condensed the story into 76, or 78, minutes -- something around that amount.

Edit: Just looked it up on ninjaturtles.com, and the video's run-time is listed as 72 minutes. At any rate, quite a bit would have to be cut for the 5 episode story to be condensed to, like, 3 eps.-worth of time.

CyberCubed 05-29-2007 08:47 PM

"The Epic Begins" essentially cuts out there entire Baxter episode. Which is an odd plothole, since the Turtles return to Baxters workshop to build the Turtle Van and Blimp in the next eps.

Not the DVD. The condensed movie version that was released as the first Turtles DVD in some parts of Europe.

Rawr Rawr Rawr Gobo ok gotcha hmm I forget some times there are people from other parts of the world on here.
I also wasn't aware that the dvd's for other countrys where all that differnt from the us versions. Oh well.

gobo 05-29-2007 11:03 PM

"THE EPIC BEGINS" was actually released direct-to-video in April of '88. This was the original pilot mini-series edited into a feature-length movie. If you take into account that the opening theme and credits take up 1.5 minutes, "THE EPIC BEGINS" only has 70.5 minutes of content. That's 43.5 minutes of ep content that they edited out, 2 full eps worth! BTW, that took me a few minutes to calculate, so I'm being thorough here. When a Scandinavian DVD-rip surfaced on the 'net back in 2002, it was "THE EPIC BEGINS" (not in English, of course). When Artisan was ready to do their release for the US, Neil (aka Vegita-San) and I tracked them down and asked about the project. They were planning on making the first volume "THE EPIC BEGINS" and subsequent DVDs 3 eps each. With a queasy feeling, we found it necessary to suggest a different approach. I sent in the news to ToonZone, and next I hear, Artisan changed their plans to the uncut first season and "never-seen episodes". Later, I read that it was David Wise himself who lobbied for the change of plan. After the DVD came out, and I saw that the bonus eps were nothing I hadn't already seen (and being a little irritated by how awkward the set was), I started thinking then how cool it would have been to see for myself what was cut from "THE EPIC BEGINS".

David Wise is the man!
And wait so what was released on the dvd is still cut then or am I missunderstanding you?

Roseangelo 05-29-2007 11:10 PM

I think I still have that VHS. I know I was torn about getting rid of it since it hasn't technically been released on DVD. But like I would watch the edited version anyways... :P

No, the US DVDs are all uncut.

Exactly. It's nothing I'd watch more than once, but I'd like to have it just for the sake of historical accuracy.

Way to get off topic... Any way. Is there any news on why there are only 18 episodes??

Deathknight 05-31-2007 11:13 PM

No news as of yet, probably just an early production error or something. Maybe they're counting Planet of the Turtleoids as 1 episodes? Though that would still make 19 if you don't count Turtles and the Hare.

How was saying I like my dvd's uncut talking about teenage mutant ninja turtles dvd's and then making sexual joke and only it being a joke makes it really not even relivant so the thing is I'm talking about tmnt dvd releases and how I like them not to be cut.
Off topic? I think not.

gobo 06-01-2007 02:24 AM

Way to confuse me... Anyway, it's Molly Bode's guide that they've been following since they started releasing DVDs. According to that guide, there were 22 eps (counting "PLANET OF THE TURTLEOIDS" as two). The two Hokum Hare eps were of the syndicated bunch, and "PLANET OF THE TURTLEOIDS" was aired a few times on primetime around when the Fall '91 CBS season started, but was never reaired on Saturday mornings in my area (except maybe for that time or two it reran on USA Network; the only CBS ep they ever played). So, for them suggesting that there are only 18 eps on this 3-disc set, that would reasonably be excluding the Hokum Hare and Turtleoid eps leaving only the 18 eps of the Fall '91 CBS season proper.

themaxonline 06-06-2007 08:18 AM

Just thought I'd mention that this is now on amazon.com. They say that it's only one DVD though even though the cover says 3. LOL! Can one DVD fit 18 episodes? It'll probably change once they put the episode listing up if in fact it is more than one disc.

http://www.amazon.com/Teenage-Mutant...135605&sr=1-15

I got it preordered! :D

SassyGal 06-13-2007 01:39 PM

I just preordered my copy today!!! yay! I am so excited!!

Krum 06-13-2007 06:48 PM

amazon.ca has it too, you can actually order this one in Canada, and i own a copy of "The Epic Begins" VHS. It's missing the baxter stockman episode and any mention of him in the other episodes is edited out. It's also missing a few scenes from parts of the other four episodes.

SassyGal 06-13-2007 06:56 PM

I love amazon.ca...that's where I get my OT dvds :D except season 4...I had to order that from amazon.com...it's like a gift when it comes in the mail :)

Revan 06-13-2007 09:13 PM

Right, this Season 5 DVD is for the Classic TMNT Toon.

donatellomn 07-30-2007 01:19 PM

Only a week until the Season 5 DVD comes out! I hope it shows up a little early again like the Season 4 one did at Best Buy. I found my Season 4 copy on the Thursday before the Tuesday release day. Hopefully that's the same case this time around.

Yeah, be nice (to find it early).

Also of note (as mentoned in another thread), Aug. 7th has TMNT (new Movie) and Fast Forward Vol. 2 come out on DVD too.

PrometheusUFO 08-02-2007 11:43 PM

DVDEmpire's scan of the back cover reveals a slightly different list of extras than previously released. haha's @ the "Special Features Facts" table though. :p

gobo 08-03-2007 12:15 AM

This is an awesome packaging job here. :D Even though they reused past art, they did so well at changing the entire context of it and making it amusing that I can't bring myself to say a single negative thing about it. This is leaps and bounds better than the previous releases' packaging designs! ^_^

One thing of note... OMFG! AN USAGI FEATURETTE! :o THAT'S THE BEST NEWS EVER! A Baxter one too. There's also a retrospective listed, but no 'Evil Splinter' in sight. :P This release may very well outshine the movie. :D

Spitfire 08-03-2007 12:25 AM

The DVD is pretty cool.

Clear plastic slip cover over a cardboard backing. The top half is a mini pizza box, that opens up and you can pull the DVDs out. The DVDs all look like pizzas and come in it's own slipcase. Inside is a pic of Raph with a chef's hat on.

Pretty nifty!

sdp 08-03-2007 12:31 AM

Has it been confirmed which 4 episodes are missing from the set?

When I watch it Ill tell you.

F'ing disk is hard to get it without fear of breaking it

Okay it has, and in this order*Which I think is out of order*

Donatello's Badd*yes it's spelled like that* Time
Donatello's Duplicate
My Brother, The Bad Guy
Enter: Mutagen Man
Napoleon Bonafrog: Colossus Of The Swamp
Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko
Michelangelo Meets Bugman Again
Leonardo Cuts Loose
Muckman messes Up
The Ice Creature Cometh
Zach And The Alien Invaders
Raphael Versus The Volcano
Raphael, Turtle Of Thousand Faces
Pirate Radio
Land Lord Of The Flies
Leonardo, The Renaissance Turtle
Welcome Back Polarisoids
Michelangelo The Sacred Turtle

That's all the episodes and the third disk has

The Turtles" A Ninjatastic Look Back
Under The Shell - Yosagi*Yes spelled like this* Yojimbo *Funny cause on the back of the box it's spelled correctly*
Under The Shell - Baxter Stockman
Trailer Gallery

No clue why but disk 3 has the most episodes on it.

gobo 08-03-2007 04:54 AM

I knew it! Hokum was skipped again. That's just the 18 eps of the second CBS season. Since "PLANET OF THE TURTLEOIDS" actually premiered early in season six, there was relatively no chance of that one (or two) making it onto this set. Thanks for the verification, man. :)

MrPliggins 08-03-2007 07:30 AM

"Planet of the Turtleoids" premiered in primetime right before season 4 started on CBS in '91. It was never rerun as far as I know. Odd that "Once upon a Time machine" was skipped...probably a mistake. The episodes are out of order too...but it this season doesn't really rely heavily on continuity so it's not a big deal.

sdp 08-03-2007 11:04 AM

Once upon a time machine is such a random episode I have a feeling it'll be skipped :(

Sucks about the order too. They get the box theme right yet they mess up the contents :/

Oh well. Planet of the Turtleoids would have been a good episode to end the set but aslong as we get it eventually i'll be ok.

We may have to write a letter to get Once upon a time machine on the next set.

CyberCubed 08-03-2007 11:27 AM

So now the Season 6 set has to include all the Season 6 eps + Planet of the Turtloids + Once upon a time machine.

I have a feeling the Season 6 set will be planned for around Christmas time, so you guys have plenty of time to notify Lions Gate and tell them what episodes need to be on the next DVD! Its best to start early so they know.

Spitfire 08-03-2007 11:31 AM

Season 6 has 16 episodes, so if they add the two parter then it'll have the same amount as this set. No idea what the deal with hokum is. That episode sucked anyways but I get the point, we don't want ANY missing episodes and so far we've been lucky. This is the first one. We got one episode twice, and these DVDs are selling really well so I bet they will finish the whole series off for sure.
