Shellfox 11-16-2002 08:02 PM

I was going to be long winded but I'm to biased, and my hatred of armada knows no bounds, so here

Back to venus, for what she was she was good, past that, she doesn't fit in to most TMNT relms

Nickokapo 11-17-2002 02:11 AM

Well i liked armada, but i only got 3 eps then decided it wasn't a good enough series to keep getting imo :ohwell:
I dunno...i guess i just liked the original transformers.
AND BEAST WARS II! :D (The anime one, not the CGI one, that's beast wars, and i hated it...unlike rid or armada that at least i kinda liked it, the cgi...i just can't stand it :dead: )

Raphael-sama 11-17-2002 11:36 AM

Bah. Beast Wars was the greatest Transformers show ever concieved. It won EMMYS, fsck it.

As for Armada... ew ew ew. This is the reason why I joined the TMNT fandom instead of the TF fandom. There comes a point in time where I look onto a member of a fandom in pity, and there's a new Transfan of that ilk every week. The reaction to EVERYTH:ING Armada (show, toys, comic) rivals even the greatest Beast Machines debate. It's a bloody kid's CARTOON, people. Tsk.

Of course, I haven't seen the show myself (argh to YTV! You can bring He-Man and Justice League, you can bloody well bring the new TF show over!), but I enjoyed RiD, and from the words I've heard, the show is that quality lately. Granted, there's quite a few people who obviously won't accept the show unless it surpasses BW overnight, but reh...

And Shellfox: the kids aren't gonna die. If you don't like the show, STOP WATCHING. Hasbro listens to the ratings: if the show is watched alot, the series is obviously working, and it won't change. And besides, it's an Aeon/Takara cartoon. They ALWAYS suck. (RiD was the sole expection, half of it being that Aeon didn't work on it till the very end.)

...god, I need to say that on a TF board. *shrug*

Mouse 11-17-2002 06:19 PM

oh? so fellow TF fans? this could be interesting...turtles meet transformers..who knew???

Shellfox 11-17-2002 07:56 PM

not that odd I rember seeing a pic somewhere a long time ago of 4 Beast Wars Snappers (Snaping Turtles) that had been retooled into transforming Ninja Turtles. And of course that entire line of tmnt toys that transform into turtles, cars, jets. To a degree it makes sence

as for not watching, I watched every ep of Beast Machines and RiD, despit the fact that the bulk of the eps weren't great, but it was that rare few that were good that kept me hanging on, so I watch every new ep of Armada, and only the new ep, as it stands all but 1 in my opinion has been a waste (the intro of Smoke Screen was the sole good ep for me)

I pray that the humans in the new TMNT show not a complete waste, I am honestly scared of April, its just the look they gave her, she may be cool but after the last batch of revamps I'm causious

Nickokapo 11-17-2002 09:08 PM

I remember seeing the transformer turtles you mentioned shellfox, i wish i still had the url, they were pretty cool (they weren't official they were customs i think)

HorseTechie 11-18-2002 10:15 AM

I have yet to see this Armada cartoon, since I don't have cable either. I'll take everyone's word that it's not good.

However... I heard the comic is going to be more promising. I have two issues from Dreamwave so far, and it's okay. The G1 comic and the War Within series are more intriquing.

http://www.dreamwaveprod.ca/!thesite/mainpages/home/home.shtml

Beast wars was really good, in my opinion too. And that does sound like a cool idea... write a TMNT/BW sort of corssover fanfic.. yeah... :tgrin:

Dinogrrl 11-19-2002 09:24 PM

Woot!

Hah Ha! I am a die hard Generation 1 Transformer fan, so anything past that means little to me. As for Armada, yeah the comic will be better in terms of content than the cartoon, but you have to keep in mind that the cartoon is done in the quasi-slapstick style of certain Japanese anime. If you haven't seen much anime, especially these sort, it'll come across as terrible to you. Also, I think people were expecting really dark adult stuff like what popped up in BM, but that's not going to happen again. They already made mistakes catering only to older fans, and got two writers fired in the process.

The cartoon is meant to pull in younger generations of new viewers, not placate older fans. That's what the G1 revival and War Within is for! :)

Kingkapong 11-19-2002 09:26 PM

lol. in canada it was named "beasties". i like the beginning of the series but then i got bored. GUNDAM ROCKS.

PWDESAI 11-19-2002 09:57 PM

WHEELJACK ROCKS

Greed 11-19-2002 10:17 PM

Armada bad, Beast Wars bad ass & Gundam dose rule

Aaaaand starting with #6, Simon Furman will be the regular writer! And everybody knows that you can't go wrong with putting Furman as a writer on a TF comic ;)

Shellfox 11-20-2002 07:52 AM

The Armada comic was good, but then they put the kids from the toon in it, so it's kinda 50-50 as to it still being good

I love the G1 time line (G1, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and the endless japeneas series) but RiD is pretty much a waste. Armada is still to soon to say, its suppose to get really good later in the toon according to some of the higher ups, but it depends on what they classify as good

*hehe* Especially if one is more or less found of Prowl too. (Now if they can do something about those typos... )

Raphael-sama 11-20-2002 02:57 PM

I still have faith in Armada. RiD got me into Transformers on a massive scale, and since Armada is more of the same, I know I'll be able to enjoy it once I manage to actually WATCH it. And hey, if what the rumours floating about now are true, then I bet when all is said and done we'll have a memorable-not perfect, but memorable, cartoon on our hands. And that's fine with me.

Dinogrrl, THANK YOU. You hit the nail right on the head. You know the reason why we're getting things of Armada and RiD ilk instead of more BW/BM style? Because no one LIKED BM. I thought it was relatively boring, but I never tore into it the way the fandom did in 1999-2000. *shudder* That's why they cancelled Transtech (which was going to continue off from BM) and adopted this Final Fantasy concept. No one liked BM! If a show continued from BM with Saladtron (which could of had SO much done with it), Transfans would riot in the streets! But then, we wouldn't be surprised. EVERY series from G1 Season 3 onward (poor Roddy) has been bashed to hell. G2 perhaps deserved it a bit, but it was the first step to getting TFs from a mere 80s fad into something big. BW got bashed to SH-T and still does so. BM got crapped on so bad it's sickening. RiD has people criticizing the anime style and calling it "kiddy". I-HATE-THAT-WORD. And Armada, oh, poor poor Armada. It's sad, really.

What's also sad is the current 80s revival fad that shows like He-Man, GI Joe and yes, TMNT are hopping on. He-Man hasn't had a TV show since the 80s. TMNT's last show was in 1997 and got the BM treatment by the fans. And yet, lo, 2002, all these 20 year olds hop up and say "Hey, remember all those old shows as a kid?" and start demanding new stuff about it. Look! Retro He-Man! Mirage TMNT! And now everybody expects Transformers to follow suit. Ball-jointed Jazz! Trukk not Munky! And yet Transformers was the only one of these shows to have actually survived long enough without waiting for some fad to hop on. 2004 is the 20th anniversary of G1's creation. And how did the franchise make it that far? Not by doing the exact same thing they did 2 decades. TFs reinvented themselves, broadening the concept and securing a spot in toy aisles for all eternity. The TFs are probably the ones BEHIND this whole 80s revival, and yet it will be the only one that doesn't hop onto the bandwagon. 2004? Not Neo-G1. New concepts, new show (preferably with a tad more thought in it then Armada has currently), new toys. And while TFs keep going, He-Man and all the rest will find that the fad they rode on will be over, and they'll have no where to go. And so they'll be stuck in limbo for another 2 decades until the NEXT batch of nostalgics start up again. Tis the fate.

...god, can someone copy and paste that on the Allspark or something for me? That felt GOOD writing that.

Shellfox 11-20-2002 03:45 PM

Slag bubba, thats some impressive review of the situation. But I've always seen and heard the BW was more 50-50 on the scale of people. True it wasn't our versionof G1 but it was still good, and some fans do accnolage that. Hell I've seen convergance after seen the first BW DVD. Yes BM was way to something. It didn't feel right, little real action, to many refences that were shoddy, the charcters were nothing like they were in BW. Personnaly the fact that fox only showed it once hurt it more in my mind. I never got why people said it was to dark emotionaly, it always seemed to dark physically, part of the time I couldn't see them, and the transformations were terrable. RiD as I said I disliked most of the TF shows from Japan, just to "young" for my taste.

But if nothing else there are 2 thing I'm glad the TF gave us
SNAPTRAP, the seacon Turtle and Rhinox and his CHAINGUNS OF DEATH

PWDESAI 11-20-2002 03:53 PM

well i dunno, you really have to watch g1 then watch armada... You'll see why we expect more out of armada. I know for a fact that most transfans don't like armada because they said how it was going to be real g1 like and then it was a huge let down when it wasn't...
G1 will rule forever!

Raphael-sama 11-20-2002 04:00 PM

Cartoon wise, G1 wasn't that better off then Armada. It had all the usual errors of an 80s cartoon: voice flubs, colouring mistakes, faction symbol swip-ups, that sort of ilk. Armada suffers from obviously being under the complete control of Takara and Aeon, who couldn't put together a good cartoon if they prayed to Buddha for it. RiD being the exception, again, because Aeon was kept out of the production. Car Robots was in fact made LESS cartoonish when it was brought over here. This explains why you think they seem too "young", Shellfox. Takara, time after time, aims their cartoons at considerably younger audiences then most American producers do. And when shows like RiD and Armada become hits on the shelves and in the ratings while dark and moody Beast Machines flopped, it gives Hasbro a message. That message is as follows:

Sci-Fi Beast shows with Plots = Baaaaaaad
Bright cel animation done by Japanese and left in Takara's hands = Gooooooood

PWDESAI 11-20-2002 07:06 PM

i don't htink you mean cartoon wise, i think you mean animation wise, i swear that more than 70% of the people in the world if they were all asked non-biased b/c of memories or anything they would say g1 kicks armada ass and then the other 30% would be like g1 is a tad better, ARMAdA sux0rz

Raphael-sama 11-20-2002 07:15 PM

As it currently stands, of course. But it's not as cut and dry as that. Some might have nostalgia clouding their visage. And here's something to chew on: G1 was NOT a total American production. The movie and many of the better episodes were animated by Toei (the guys who do Dragonball and Digimon, in other words), wheras some of the really crappy episodes like Rebirth were done by Sun...rise? Bow? Sun something. Anyway. Give Armada time. The animation has been steadily improving, a result of Hasbro taking a more direct involvement with the show. There's 41 episodes left to judge the animation on.

-Badabing.

Shellfox 11-20-2002 07:43 PM

1. I have to put you in talks with a guy I know, you'd kill each other on details. (look for my hi I'm new thing go to the link, find Spegs, kill each other)

2. go past animation and look at plots, Armada is worthless. "the kids are right we have to protect the rain forest" Gag me with a fire hose. And lets not forget the last one, Corlos failing in love with a hologram he saw once, was unable to grasp the concep of her not being real despite putting his hand through her, and doing a 180 on sideing with any transformers and looking for minicons. Man they should have let him drowned

Raphael-sama 11-20-2002 08:27 PM

Ewww, no. I refuse to socialize with ANY Transfan from those message boards. I've been lurking all over for over a year now, and I've realized that the majority of Transfans are despicable ungrateful brats who worship Takara and get all hot and sweaty because Prime has to have short smokestacks in order for the thing to even hope to make a release over here.

*sigh* That's why I signed up here. The TMNT fandom is, thankfully, a small close knit group of people who don't bash every last thing Mirage, etc. throw out. (Then again, I wasn't here for TNM, soo...)

EDIT: Hold on, I forgot to bring something up. In case you haven't heard (and how could you?) UNICRON IS IN BLOODY ARMADA. TOY AND EVERYTHING. How can you NOT dig? If THAT doesn't make a plot worthwhile, I don't know WHAT does.

-Badabing.

Shellfox 11-20-2002 08:41 PM

been hearing that for a while, since before the minicon element was created. Not sure what to make of it yet. All the pics I've seen of people showing him have been BW Neo version prototype, which is so cool. But given how its been done up to now, they could make Grimlock sux. Price of the Armada Unicron is like $80, and they don't give pics of it so forget it.

enigma-1 11-20-2002 08:42 PM

Huh. Didn't know that Armada was such a hot debate. As a fellow T-fan, I've watched that and a lot of the others. From what I've seen, it's not so bad. I mean, each series has it's problems. That can't be helped.

Raphael-sama 11-20-2002 08:46 PM

The price is $66, according to Entertainment earth. It COULD be the BW Neo mold, but my heart tells me they'll make a new toy. (Which makes sense: the lead TF designer at Hasbro WANTS to make his own Unicron toy, and wants to do it justice) All I care about is that he has 75 minicon pegs. And that he turns into a planet.

Think about it this way. If there's anything the show is bringing across, it's that the Mini-cons are tiny, adorable, collectable WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. One mini-con created a blast so powerful even MEGATRON couldn't withstand it-and he was the one firing it! A mini-con gestalt sword destroyed an entire civilization.

Think of what ALL the Mini-cons could do to the Chaos Bringer himself...

-Badabing.

enigma-1 11-20-2002 08:48 PM

Hmm, dangerous indeed.

Raphael-sama 11-20-2002 08:50 PM

Dangerous? Dangerous is an understatement, my friend. We're talking Invincible Hellspawn. We're talking Living(er, Metallized) Embodiment of Satan/Devil/whoever.

I guarantee ya, the final eps of Armada are gonna put Transformer issue #75 to SHAME.

-Badabing.

enigma-1 11-20-2002 08:52 PM

I believe that I'm inclined to agree w/ you on that one. Though I'm also hoping that it won't give any fans certain ideas. The TF forums already have enough players who think themselves gods. I hate to think of any that would try to pull something like that. :dead:

Shellfox 11-20-2002 09:01 PM

but think of the scale, Minicons=Human size, Tf are like grems to this guy in the movie, so he'd be what like 4 feet tall in bot mod if done to scale, probly more. How much could they really do to him.

Side note if he was that big, he'd beat the day lights out of those life sized barbies that keep showing up

enigma-1 11-20-2002 09:08 PM

That's one way to look at it.

The Lone Turtle 11-21-2002 02:01 AM

I can't wait for Armada to make it to Aus. The toys looks hella sweet!! I've haerd some bad things about the show, but I'm notgoing to say anything untill I see it myself. But I agree with Raphael-Sama, the last eps of Armada are gona kick ass :D I just hope that Hasbro doesn't screw Unicron up

*blink* Whoa... didn't realize how many TF fans we had lurking about here. :D

I also agree with DinoGrrl's statement... Armada is indeed for the kiddies. *note how they are showing up in Happy Meals* But I have no harsh feelings about it. I didn't like the RiD season Fox ran though. Prolly cause it was too much like anime, and I soo hated that insane woman in a red sportscar. And the point having her there was...? Or lke they had these two trains, and they were going after a human-made locomotive before it goes off the cliff. The whole time I was thinking, 'C'mon! Just tranform and pick it up off the tracks!' Gah... two eps was all I could bare to watch.

I loved Beast Wars... made a point to watch that on Saturday mornings when I could. But.. I don't ever remember seeing Beast Machines... or that I didn't even realize it was TF related. Hrmmm... must have been when my TF interest was at it's all time low (while my TMNT fandom was skyhigh).

Hrmm.. want me to post this at The Padded Cell...? (that's another smallish forum kinda like this, complete with many drooling female fans)

believe it or not miss HorseTechie, Transfans are alive and well over at Seibertron.com--the ultimate in transfandom :D

transformers hail from Cybertron-a planet far from earth, and it kinda makes you wonder what kind of interaction would occur if the TFs and TMNTs came together(hints to a fan fic  )

every cartoon series as a following, especially of horomone driven, artistic women 8)

Kelly the most worthless human ever made, but she was no worse that Sideburn, honestly who though him chasing after red cars was funny. The only think funny about that would be after he went super mode and saw him self in a moving mirror and chased it for a few eps.

It WAS anime! How can anime be too much like anime? It doesn't make sense! Arrrgh, my braaaaiiiinn....

And Shellfox: There's sooo much they can do with Unicron on the show, or at least, in the comic. (Furman's getting Unicron back...when should we take bets on the number of survivors? :D) As for what the mini-cons can DO to him...

Does "Matrix immunity" say anything to you?

Yeah... that's why I didn't like RiD. TFs weren't meant to be anime-tized. (the diehard G1/BW fan I am)

Personally, I'm sort of mix of all the TF that I've seen over the years, though I'm mostly a G1 girl. Heck, that's where part of my char comes from! :p

Generation One!!!! Wooot!!!!!

Autobots, transform and roll out!!!
