Tales of the TMNT #9 (spoilers)
 

Those bastards! They killed Klunk! :(

This if the first time a comic book has made me cry :cry:

What are you talking about :cry: please explain...its going to be a long time before I get my hands on #9 with these lousy comic stores :ohwell:

I'm not sure when this issue exactly takes place. The turtles were in an apartment type place, probably April's, and Klunk got out through a hole in the screen of a window, and got run over by a car. The story involves Michelangelo trying to save Klunk by taking him to a mystic healer.

Even though Klunk dies, it was one of the most insightful issues into Mikey's character and heart.

One thing I will say about this one from the preview is that the art looks a lot better with Lawson inking it, it makes Talbot look like he was just tracing the outlines

I had a good bawl after reading that comic too. First time as well. Just a great, great bit of storytelling. Easily in my top 5 Turtle stories.

None of you guys cried after Splinter's death?

I just read it.

Wasn't as gut-wrenching as I thought it would be. The death of animals is just about the only thing that can get a reaction out of me anymore (like that episode of Futurama, one of the saddest things I've seen in my life).

However, this issue didn't envoke much emotion. I dunno why. Maybe because Klunk's death felt kinda "silly", with the crazy cat-lady and the cajun voodoo-guy. I dunno.

It was a good issue, none-the-less. The best part was at the end, when Mikey finally realized what he was doing. "It's okay, nobody loves this cat. Just look at it." It was done very well.

Not as heart-breaking as I was expecting it to be (which, I suppose, isn't really a bad thing), but still a good issue.

I really liked this issue. the cat in volume 4 is the offspring of klunk.. which is cool. just call him kluck Jr.

when did Issue 9 come out??...issue 8 just came out the other week cause it came out late, like they most usually do,lol, and i havent seen 9 on the order forms yet.

Issue #9 isnt out yet anywhere. I asked around at about 8 different stores and they all told me the same thing "It's not out yet" I checked a few shipping dates and I havnt see it posted for release yet so yeah I dont know what is up. Anyone who has it now either works for Mirage or is very lucky

I found it at two stores in my area already, and I've seen it up for order online at a online comic store I order from, G-Mart

just read it a second time. I really liked issue 9. I dont think im lucky its out everywhere in my area.

I think it's out a few weeks "early" in some areas("early" being relative, since it's actually late everywhere since it was supposed to be out in March). It hasn't even been listed on Diamond Comics shipping list yet, which will say when the majority of comic shops will be getting it. I assume next wednesday will be the "real" shipping date for it.

I just read the issue and it did make me tear up. Very sad to see Klunk go that way, and he just looked so helpless (here I go again). But it was a sweet ending and a very good lesson learned for Mikey. The next issue looks like a Donnie issue and by the cover it look great.

As for the releases here is how I am pretty sure it went. As we all know already 8 was late in getting out, I actually just got mine last week on the just in shelf. But just becasue 8 was pushed back it doesn't mean that 9 had to be. 9 could have been done already before 8 was, so there was no reason for them to push back 9 too. I say kudos to them for doing so. Marvel wouldn't have done so, they would make us wait another month (as they already do with New Avengers when they are late). So in it being late I will get 3 new TMNT books this month. I like that deal a lot.

Triceraton, I live in PA too and we have it in. I picked mine up at a shop in Deleware. Now obviously Pa is a huge state and you could be closer to Ohio, but over here in the Philly area issue 9 is out.

I don't know if it's been mentioned anywhere else, but what about that custom Slash done by Jason Bischoff the Playmates guy? I think it was done incredibly well. I had made one myself about a year ago out of an extra Raph and pieces from other figures, but I think I may retool it towards that. If Jason comes to these boards man I just would like to say that is an awesome job, and it is nice to see we have fans of the TMNT working for Playmates. If anyone has a link to pics of it please post it, if not I'll take some digi pics of the photos in the book.

I thought it was a pretty good story. The elements all worked really well within the story, the lesson learned and all.

I liked that letter where someone has a go at Shadow being upset about Northampton. They seem to think the writer has a real problem, without even considering they've actually perfectly captured Shadow's youth and ignorance.

Looks like it's Hitler, Jews and Donatello next issue... :ohwell:

Lol, that letter was out there. It's obivous a teenage girl would feel that way moving from NYC to Northhampton, even if it is Shadow. BTW, I think it was a guy. It says Charles underneath it. I'm surprised the editor didn't write a reply to it, or at least the writer should've enlightened him.

Has anyone on the 'Drome here had a letter published in either book yet? Or even in the older books from any company? I've been wondering that lately, but always forget to ask. I've been thinking of writing in, but I know I would just ask question after question then be dissapointed when they all didn't get answered in full, lol.

I know someone called ZariusTwo on here has (he's written a few times, I think) and some other people have had small ones published. This is all Volume 4. I've never bothered.

And it seems you only get a reply if you say something ridiculously stupid (where Laird will tell you so) or are asking about certain characters appearing or something.

What scared me the most about that letter was that guy was treating Shadow as if she was a real person, not just chewing out Laird. Someone needs to let the guy know Shadow isn't real.

Finally got a hold of Issue 9! And yes I was a bit teary eyed over Klunk's death...but what's really sad is that he left behind a wife and kids! I mean sheesh! And Mike almost sacrificed her to save Klunk! :o He was wrong about nobody loving her... Klunk certainly did!! :evilgrin:

The turtles were living in an Apartment so it's probably 8 or 9 years ago. Unless the Klunk in Vol 4 is 3rd generation. Could be tho....

Next issue is Donatello and some Jewish holiday thingie...Is Don Jewish or something??? :o

Maybe we will get lucky and get other stuff early like DVDs :lol:

Klunk may have died but he lives on in his children.... he at least left a legacy behind. :D

I loved tho how Donatello just happened to have a DNA checker around so he was able to check the DNA of those kittens... :lol:

But why didn't Mike realize that the female (I dub her Mrs. Klunk! :evilgrin: ) had kittens??? A lactating female kitty leaks....alot....I should know... used to breed cats.... lactating females leave wet spots wherever they lay down... :P

I just bought and read this issue today. Normally, I don't get the Tales series, and just get the regular ones, but I was at the store and they didn't have any of my other usuals yet, so I got 'em.

Despite the machoness and maturity one usually associates with 21-year-old males, I couldn't help but get misty-eyed over the loss of Michelangelo's beloved cat. Largely because of it being something I could associate with. I grew up with two cats. The first one, a black cat, had been born before I was! The second, a striped tabby, was a stray we took in. It was two summers ago that the latter cat - the one who liked me above any other member of the family - who died at the age of 9 (She only had one kidney; the other had been injured in an unknown accident years ago. We suspect, though, that one of the men working to renovate our basement might've kicked her, but by the time we found out she was hurt the men had finished and were long gone.). A mere 6 months later - not long before Christmas - the other one was put to sleep at the age of 20. She was simply too old and too weak, and we couldn't let her suffer.

I guess I can relate to how Michelangelo feels in this comic, and that's why I got teary-eyed. In fact, I'm a bit teary-eyed as I type this right now. Although there's also one other fact - the first Mirage TMNT comic was the one in which Mikey found Klunk, the Xmas issue. So I guess that, too, makes Klunk a sentimental fave character to me. Truly, this is an issue for all the cat-lovers out there.

Klunk, may you be granted peace in - to borrow a quote from the Earthworm Jim cartoon - "Kitty Heaven, where the milk flows like water and all the mice are slow."

I know exactly how you feel when it comes to the sentimental value to your own pets. Last summer a stray black cat came up to my door and I took her in, regardless that everyone else in the house was allergic to cats. She was so thin and straggly. She wasn't in good shape period and was somewhat feral, but she loved me right away. She started getting fatter and more playful, but not too much later one morning I woke up and she was coughing up blood (about 6 months after she came to our door). I called every animal hospital I could find, but with me not having a cent to my name at the time, not one place would take her in (Great humanitarians, right? Only help if they get money for their BMWs and Yachts). Well she died in my arms that day and I'll never forget that as long as I live. The only thing I can hope for is that she was happy for her final days with me. When seeing Mikey holding Klunk as he was bleeding and not moving only brought me back to that.

If a bright side can be found though a couple months later I stop at a garage sale (looking for TMNT items as usual) and they were giving away kittens there. I ended up getting the last two that were left and ever since they have been such great friends to me. She will never be replaced in my mind or heart, but I like to think she led me there to help me with having lost her.

Sorry if I bummed anyone out, but I thought I'd share how the story really hit me in places. I feel Mikey's pain as I'm sure anyone who has ever lost a pet can. Goodbye Klunk, don't worry your memory (and DNA) will live on.

Thanks, PenguinCleese. BTW, you can Google the phrase to find the full quote, although the original context is a little more humorous than the more somber passage I used it in.

I finally got this one over the weekend. Odd question, but how is it that this issue has letters about Tales #8 in it, when Tales #8 & #9 both started shipping at about the same time?



I think it's going to be an issue about Don & a golem, but I could be wrong.
