What as with the Image TMNT?

I just don't get them. Its like they put the Guys in a meat grinder for some sick reason. Can some one explane why the guys were pertrate the way they were?

Karpo_007 12-08-2002 12:10 PM

I don't know, and I don't like it. But it doesn't matter it isn't the true universe anyway. In volume 4 none of those things have happened.

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 12:12 PM

yea they completely ignore the image series, i think they should do another tales series to fill in that gap

Karpo_007 12-08-2002 12:28 PM

I heard they might do a new Tales of TMNT series to tell what happened between volume 2 and 4.

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 12:30 PM

they should

heretic888 12-08-2002 01:08 PM

hmmm

Peter Laird said he is considering doing another....

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 01:09 PM

do they have a big enought staff to do it?????

Karpo_007 12-08-2002 01:12 PM

They would need another penciller atleast. I wonder if Dooney is doing anything at the moment...

Because they're IMAGE!!! They didn't give any reason at all for what they did. There were no reason and no point. It's not so much what they did, but how they dealt with it. I mean, Don almost dies, Raph gets his face blown off, Splinter gets turned into a bat, and Leo gets his hand bitten off, and none of them bat an eye! And all in 23 issues.

As for the Tale of TMNT stories, I'm sure that they'll do some recruiting for new artists if they want to do that. They could probably get a number of guest artist to do one-shots.

Karpo_007 12-08-2002 01:25 PM

Yeah but it would be nice to see one ofthe original guys do it. Of course if they get new artists who can draw, it's good too.

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 02:19 PM

i wonder if ac farley would do a new series

Kali 12-08-2002 02:27 PM

Hell, if I could do it I would. I wonder if they'd accept fan-submissions from non-professionals. I've got this great story, if only I did the skills to draw it up well enough to get accepted.

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 02:29 PM

that would be cool if i could do it but im a crappy artist

BigThew 12-08-2002 02:29 PM

shoot i would do one too!

but i can't compare to how Larsen Drew the turtles..

Karpo_007 12-08-2002 02:32 PM

I don't like the Image style... It's good that it's no part of official universe.

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 02:34 PM

im glad the image series didnt last long although i still see the back issue of it at my comic shop

Zenrick 12-08-2002 02:40 PM

I will be posting new Ninja Turtle images on my web site soon, I am designing new uniforms and better ways to draw them for personal pleasure. Maybe Kali can submit her stories with my drawings? :)

PWDESAI 12-08-2002 03:30 PM

I would love dan berger to do it. I asked him why he isn't drawing anything and said maybe u should make a few 1shots or a crossover and he just smiled :-?

MzTheInsomniac 12-08-2002 03:42 PM

i dont get it?

Kali 12-08-2002 04:00 PM

It was a compliment, why shouldn't he smile? Dan's mysterious that way.

Sparvid 12-09-2002 05:31 AM

I was checking out the Savage Dragon forum (for some strange reason :P), and here's what Erik Larsen said about wether or not he was interested in doing the Turtles again:
Quote:

I'm not interested. My whole connection was to Michael Dooney-- not the TMNT. The desire to do a crossover came about from wanting to work with Michael. I'm not sure what he's up to these days but I'm not following the TMNT adventures these days. Since they ended up ditching everything we did with the characters (and they approved of) I'm in a surly enough mood to NOT want to persue another crossover.
Yeah, I wonder why they removed the Image series out of continuity...

heretic888 12-09-2002 08:39 AM

hmmm

i actually quite enjoyed the image series. as far as freaky 'what the ****?!' tmnt series go, it beat the living shiznit outta the next mutation. it wasn't as good as the mirage series, but hey, what is??

still, i am glad Laird discontinued the Image continuity.

azure turtle 12-09-2002 04:42 PM

I only have two of the Image issues, but I'm intrigued enough to buy more. I recently purchased another issue online, and I'm hoping to get it soon. However... I'm glad they're taking Volume 3 out of continuity. And I'd love to see Dan Berger do a few TMNT comics. :D

Karpo_007 12-09-2002 04:44 PM

I think I havn't yet read an issue wich he has drawn. What are the issue numbers?

azure turtle 12-09-2002 04:57 PM

I don't remember off the top of my head, but I do like his art style. Haven't read an issue of his yet either. Just seen a few scans here and there.

Karpo_007 12-09-2002 04:58 PM

Well I will come a cross it sooner or later.

MzTheInsomniac 12-09-2002 06:04 PM

speaking of mr berger i really like his gutwallow series

Karpo_007 12-10-2002 03:48 AM

I have never read it. What is it about?

Woo-Hoo! A change to plug Gutwallow!

Anyways... it's about the adventures of a little gingerbread man named Gutwallow. Stan Saki (Usagi Yojibmo) called it: "Lord of the Rings if Chuck Jones had written it." (that was paraphrased by the way).

If you're interested in buying it, then the first twelve issues (Vol. 1) are collected in a trade you can get from Dan's site (http://www.gutwallow.com) or amazon.com. Vol. 2 is 4 issues long and can bought at gutwallow.com, too. After 16 issues of self-publishing, Dan decided he couldn't do it any long (or something) and Digital Webbing (http://www.digitalwebbing.net) has agreed to publish a three-issue, bi-monthly, mini-series -- the first issue is suppossed to come out Dec. 26. Ed Dukeshire, the creator/owner/etc. or DW, has said the he would publish another mini-series if sales and fan-interest were high enough. That means everyone should buy it! :x ....

MzTheInsomniac 12-10-2002 03:53 PM

i wish dan would continue doing gutwallow, i enjoyed it

Um... there's a three-issue, bi-monthly, mini-series with the first ish coming out Dec. 26.

MzTheInsomniac 12-10-2002 06:47 PM

well that is only a mini series i want a real series

azure turtle 12-10-2002 06:59 PM

Yeah, I really like the Gutwallow series. I love Dan's sense of humor. Glad to hear that Gutwallow will be continuing, even if it isn't a regular series any more.

MzTheInsomniac 12-10-2002 07:13 PM

he has a great sense of humor i dont wanna order the new series online though

Well, you can tell a local comic book store to order it for you... I could get the order number for the first ish and the second one's in the latest Previews.

Aztec General 12-11-2002 10:55 AM

As for Image I'm in agreement with most of you. It was just too much of a train wreck series to be enjoyed. Although I admit I liked the idea of Raph being scarred and moonlighting as the Shredder. It just seems to fit his personality to me.

I think it would rule if they bring back the Tales of the TMNT. A.C. Farley and Micheal Dooney are both free if I'm not mistaken  . There's definetely a lot of stories that haven't been told.

Karpo_007 12-11-2002 11:09 AM

Yeah, the Time gap is about 10 years I think.

ToTheNines 10-18-2025 02:51 PM

Dunce cap for everyone in this thread. Imagine it being like 3 years after the release of #23 and being a hater.

Very interesting tidbit. Never knew Larsen was salty about Peter ignoring volume 3.
