Which is the better version of the origin of Splinter?

So which one do you like? The cartoon version where Splinter is a human then mutated into a rat or the comic/movie version where he has always been a rat. I just want to know.

Zenrick 12-08-2002 01:58 PM

Of course the cartoon, anyone that thinks differently would have to be a Wiccan or something. :)

Shellfox 12-08-2002 06:10 PM

Like I said eairler today the cartoon makes more sence, A rat learning martial arts in a cage is hard to believe. Rats are highly intelligent, and can do more than humans give them credit, but learning martial arts goes beyond what rodents are capable of.

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 06:21 PM

I prefer the cartoon one not only because it was the one i like the most and the first one i saw but also because the idea of a rat mimicking the moves of his master was ridiculous :goofygri:

AMEN.............why dont the comic lovers and promoters have anything to say? COME ON!!! ;)

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 06:27 PM

Heh...dont worry, i'm sure we'll hear karpo's rant about the comic story being the true tmnt and all that stuff soon ;)

........waiting :)

Duke 12-08-2002 06:30 PM

Yeah i started this poll because everyone just kept saying that the comic/movie version was so much better, but i just don't see them voting? I only asked the question because i wanted a majority opinion and so far the majority seems to agree with me. I know there most be more than 1 person who disagrees with me so please start voting. I won't arque you over it I just want to know what everyone thinks.

Mondo_Gecko 12-08-2002 06:30 PM

The cartoon one was the best, and yeah i hated the whole rat ninja thing as Nick said it was just plain silly.

Greed 12-08-2002 06:34 PM

The Archie/cartoon story is ok but the Mirage/movie one is way better

yaaaaaaay! theres one! :)

the cartoon is still winning, bring more anti-cartooners in here Slash

Shellfox 12-08-2002 06:39 PM

Comic may have more depth, but givin the physics of the 2 realities only the cartoon could happen.
Rats simply don't have the mental capabilities to retain that much knowledge of martial arts

Greed 12-08-2002 06:44 PM

When I asked this Question people liked th mirage/movie I don't know what happened

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 06:55 PM

Maybe not many comic fans seen this one yet :ohwell:

Greed 12-08-2002 07:00 PM

yeah thats it

Actually, rats are VERY intelligent. They remember and comprehend and lot more than humans give them credit for. If they weren't so smart, how come they survive so well, even with many people trying to kill them?

Suspending belief for the moment that either situation could actually occur, and based on my brand of logic, I have to vote for the Mirage/movie origin. But I would rather the cartoon origin be true, since there's a lot more variety in stories that way, from a fictional standpoint.

Shellfox 12-08-2002 07:31 PM

Kali if you read my first post I think I said rats were smarter than human give them credit for.
Yeah they'te smart they can memorise areas and patterns, understand images and scents. But to a degree the rats intelligence is also based in instinct. It understands inviroments so it can escape if hunted, being in a cage owned by humans his need to know how to survive will decrease. A rat will mimic a person but not graps many aspects of what its doing, nor can it mimic certain moves due to its anatomy. The degree of skill the Normal Rat Splinter would need for for the comic origin to be true simply can't exist dfue to the rats renintin capabilities. The instincs to survive would over ride the knowledge he learned reverting more to a primal nature making him forget most of it.

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 07:35 PM

I wouldn't think so deep about it, after all, it might've been kinda ridiculous, but it was aimed to be a parody (the first issue anyways) so the more ridiculous the funnier.
Of course, the tmnt popularity grew and the comic got serious...but still...

Shellfox 12-08-2002 07:42 PM

Sorry but I've been really into animals most of my life and know a lot of little details, that have no real importance

Jephael 12-08-2002 07:43 PM

I'm siding with the cartoon version on this one. It just made better sense.

Kali 12-08-2002 07:55 PM

Heh, I understand that a pet rat in a cage will not become a ninjutsu master. But obviously the mutagen effected Splinter's mind, and not just his body, giving him the ability to use what he'd absorbed. Like learning to talk. As a baby, we don't have the capablity to communicate very well, but as we grow we learn and are eventually able to speak. And then we read and gain knowledge. Splinter had many books on martial arts, I supect he learned most of it from that.

But the one thing I really did not like about Splinter in the cartoon was how he associated with being a rat. He used to be human, so you think he'd think like a human and associate himself as a human in a rat's body. But in the Shredder is Splintered (I think) Splinter says, "We rats can burrow through anything." I'm probably not making sense on this point, since I never could settle it out in my own mind.

Zenrick 12-08-2002 08:12 PM

I just thought it was hillarious how in the movie Hamato Yoshi was killed by Shredder, but yet all the damage Splinter recieved was a cut ear. And our fearless master did more damage to shredder than his master.....hmmmm, Yoshi must've been drunk or something, or maybe getting it on with his woman? either way he wouldn't've done much good against the shredster.....

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 08:16 PM

 yeah, he killed yoshi but he couldnt kill a rat?
Or maybe he didnt wanted to kill it, but then why'd he cut his ear? :ohwell:

Yeah, and didnt he flee after chopping Splinty? hmmmmm, what a nerd! "Oh I've done all I can do here......quick! FLEE SHREDMAN!!!!"

Greed 12-08-2002 08:24 PM

he was afraid of getting rabies

Kali 12-08-2002 08:24 PM

LOL! Shredman, gotta remember that one.

But see, if Shredder had killed Splinter, then the story would be very different. Or maybe Saki just wanted to teach him a lesson. Scar Splinter, since Splinter scared Saki's face. Or maybe the cops were on their way and he couldn't finish it.

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 08:27 PM

Oh yah maybe he just wanted to scar him...well im sure glad splinter didn't died :D
He won't be able to use headphones anymore tho  poor him.

Shellfox 12-08-2002 08:27 PM

Or Splinter got scared and hid after the year was cut off, lets face I would, and only came out after Shred had left to morn.

maybe...........the Shredder is just a clumsy fellow I suppose, thats why he missed and only hit his ear? I dunno.......or maybe Krang bet him $20 to see if he could cut off part of a rats ear that day??? YEAH!!! That MUSE be it!! I know Krang wasnt in the story, but he shoul've. :)

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 08:51 PM

Yeah...it must've been krang, that gambler!

hahahahaha, they need to make the fact that he's an obsessive gambler a prominent trait in the next series......like SHredder will go try and get the turtles and Krang will say "I bet you 50 to 1 that you wont win!" hahaha that'd be great!

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 08:55 PM

Yeah...that's how he really lost his body, in a bet! :D

hahaha, just like how Lando Calrissian (sp?) lost the Millenium Falcon to Han Solo in star wars.....I bet theres some little kid out there with Krang's body. I'm guessing Krang lost in a bet over how many jacks he could pick up and lost of course. The kid probably stores his action figures where Krang is supposed to sit

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 09:03 PM

Krang was playing against the kid in a fight of tmnt tournament fighters for snes and lost, so he now has no body! :P
And now getting back to the topic...um...go...splinter!

Nickokapo 12-08-2002 09:12 PM

Greed 12-08-2002 09:13 PM
