New Ep Discussion: "Dragon's Rising"
 

Greetings all! :D

Well well... since the official site doesnt have a teaser up yet, looks like I'm going to have to be creative again. Yeah, I hear the "Oh great's" from some of you out there. Sheesh, rough crowd..

Dragon's Rising... we had Dragon's Brew earlier this season. Perhaps there's a connection? Maybe, maybe not. As some of us saw the preview for tomorrow's ep, we were not given much to work with, other than Leo's behavior.

It seems Leo's getting a bit more.. I dunno... agressive with his practices? I mean, we see him hanging someone from a gargoyle trying to get some answers. If that doesn't suggest something like "The Dark Knight"... 8)

Something about Leo is going to be addressed. Perhaps he lets his anger get to him and goes out to find some information from the local Purple Dragons? Stirs the beehive, so to speak? Let us not forget the issue with the slime that sloshed down into the sewers, as well as the sample that Donatello obtained. Could this be part of the lead-in to one of the local theories of Leo's current behavior resulting in a family member getting hurt?

Or, this 'dragon' could be more a description of the Purple Dragon's position in the city's crime-system. Maybe they're going to rise to stronger powers, now that Hun's not attending to Shredder's itineraries?

Ooooor... this could be something about Karai and the Foot coming back into power. There's so many possibilities of what this 'dragon' could be. I'm just waiting for "Dragon's Strike", and all hell breaking loose.

Since I can't see the ep, the thread's open, and I Need to have some quotes posted for the poll...

It was good, but really nothing exceptional. It was neither funny nor did it move the plot that much (I mean we already knew what the Dragons were up to from Dragon's Brew). But I definitely liked seeing Casey's dad and more of casey's past. Much more of a character development episode for Casey then anything else. Leo's explosion at the end... I really thought Casey was just going to punch him in the face or something. I guess what he said is true after all...

Wait when I said it wasn't that funny. That's except for Splinter's lines at the beggining when they were playing Poker. It's funny because he called Casey and Raph "Suckers..." :D

But after everything the preview for next week looks promising. I love Nobody and I'm glad he's making a comeback appearance. Can't wait!

I thought it was okay. Leo screaming at the end freaked me out. :o

Anyways, I loved tonight's ep, Casey was just cool & I loved how he honored his father. Leo is getting very...... agressive and that was a "Batman" Student! LOL I guess he watchs Batman:lol: alot

Well the episode got a perfect 10 in my opinion, but Leo needs to cool it.I don't think the turtles could of fully won the battle cause they had no idea what they where really up against. They did their best, Leo needs a slap by Splinter.

Not such a bad eppy, methinks. The opening scene was just great. I always figured Master Splinter would be a card shark. He even has the visor! XD That was just awesome.

It was nice to finally see a Casey oriented episode. I was telling one of my roomie's yesterday that there's really not a lot of Casey time. And now we got to see his whole backstory. His daddeh kinda looked like Elvis. XD Yet the way his mom was dressed in that flashback...I'm pretty sure Casey wasn't raised in the 1950's. O_o

And yay for Casey thinking to bring a parachute! I wonder if he always carries it with him? Hmm...Seems he's afraid of heights. Poor guy. I can relate.

And man, Leo's freakout in the end. I was all... O_O I prob'ly would've left him behind too. There's some misplaced agreesion there, taking it out on his bros, though I'm guilty of going off on my sibs too. That boy needs a psychaitrist. o.o; He's still totally my fave turtle, but man, this eppy FINALLY has me freaking a little bit. Maybe next week Nobody will pummel some sense into him.

I LOVED that line in the preview.

Raph: Who was that?
Mikey: Nobody.

This is going to be a running gag...I see it coming and I can't wait. XD

The flash back with Casey's dad was cool...That was my favorite part of this episode. The rest was like others said, Ok, but not to much in the way of plot development...save Leo chewing the boys out in the end and just walking off in a huff...
As for quotes:

Splinter: (playing Poker w/ Casey and Raph) If one cannot afford to pay, one should not play. Suckers!

Mikey: Sorry Klunk, he's Mr. Personality these days. *meow* Yeah, I'm kinda tired of it myself.

Casey: Please Pops, don't go!
Arnold Sr: I gotta, kiddo. I put everything we had into that store, I can't let 'um get away with this. I'm going to the police.
Casey: But they said no cops. They said if you...

Raph: Grrr....Now what!?
Leo: We didn't finish the job. We blew it, again! We blew it!
Don: We did the best we could. At least we stopped half the convoy.
Leo: Half, we stopped half! And only because we got lucky. Is that good enough for you!? Is it!? We're always one step behind. We act like a bunch of amatures! How many times are we gonna be beaten before you guys wise up and realize this isn't a game!?
(walks off in a huff)
Raph: I hate to admit it, but he ain't wrong.

Casey: Hey Pops, I brought ya somethin'. (places fregment of dragon from Hun's shirt at the base of his head stone) You spoke true, Pop. No matter what, you gotta stand up and do the right thing. But I guess I'm lucky. Even when the odds are against me, I ain't alone. I got friends, good friends.

Splinter's visor killed me.

Overall, it was a pretty good episode... nice to see Purple Dragons rather than aliens for a change. I like the street battles the best...on Earth and stuff. Yup.

Leo's freakout at the end was... I'm not too sure what I think. I guess it's good to see him have a nice rant rather than just stand there and grr without answering any questions. Maybe he's getting closer to getting over it if he can talk about it? Dunno... but I did like everyone's annoyance afterwards. Take him to Splinter for a good talk; that's what I say!

Nice background story for Casey too. I guessed early on that his dad didn't make it, but it filled out some of his history. Only thing I was wondering is how he kicked Hun's butt so easily on the truck when he was flinging Turtles left and right. Plot device, Mr. Frodo...

I'll do it :D I'll just get in his face and say a few things.....maybe he needs some lovin:evilgrin:

Anywho, the little bit in the lair at the beginning was nice. Especially when Don was talking to April.

The Episode Was Alright, It Had Its Little Moments. This Episode Is Very Important For Hun Who Has Grown Immensely. I Love That He's A Genius Mastermind Now Rather Then A 2nd Level Goon. Look How Sophisticated The Purple Dragons Have Gotten.

Since I'm A Big Poker Player I Really Enjoyed The Opening Scene. I Swear Sometimes Splinter Is The Funniest Character Of The Show. I Love Him.

The Glimpse Into Casey's Past Was Cool. But It Really Sucked And Was Very Predictable That He Would Not End Hun Off At The End. I Mean Just Because Casey Knocks Him It Doesn't Mean He Would Hill Hun.

Ok, So Whats Up With Hun's Left Shoulder? Did Leo Stab Him Or Did He Just Dislocate It? Thats Scene Was Unclear To Me.

Again The Animation In This Episode Was Not Up To Par With Some Of The Classics.

And Then We Have Leo. You Ever Stood Around While Someone Was Getting Yelled At? You Felt Like Hiding In Your Skin And For Some Reason You Were Embarrassed. Well Thats How I Felt When Leo Screamed On Them. To Me Raphs Line Was Crazy In A Good Way: "i Hate To Admit It, But He Ain't Wrong"- Mikey Nods To This. Whoa, Should We Expect A Change In The Turtles? Is Leo Finally Getting Through To Them? Interesting Isn't It?

Man, Splinter gambling in the beginning really cracked me up. I didn't think he was the kind of guy to gamble.

Good overall episode, but what's up with the confusing previews we've been getting? Can anyone figure out what next weeks about!?!?

Leo's right...They almost got shellacked (pun intended) by all the major villians, Bishop's whopped up on um, Shredder, Hun, even indirectly Karai. Leo's fed up with loseing, that doen't make him more swayable to the "dark side" it makes him more focused on shuting them down.
EDIT: About Next week's preview...It's a Nobody episode....:P

Again, and again, I say: Snap out of it, Leo!!

Somebody needed to bap him for saying that. It's not a game, and his brothers know it's not a game, but they're doing all they can! You know, very little ticks me off, but attitudes like that come as close as anything. This is driving me completely nuts. Actually, I'm forseeing a pilgrimage for Leo sometime during the season; the season previews hinted at it. I think he's going to go off on his own for a while, and try to learn his balance before coming back. I just hope it's before he comes into contact with Karai again. And before he tears his brothers to shreds, emotionally, or by getting them into trouble.

And Raph's "he ain't wrong" comment... uhm, yes he is! He's after perfection like never before, and it can't happen. It's not possible, and he's beating himself up for it, and now his brothers, too.

It's probably better for him...worse for everyone else though.

There was a good chance that Hun would get run over by his own convoy if he fell. Not a pretty picture. I don't fault Casey for helping him.

It wasn't obvious. The sword didn't actually touch Hun, so I'm guessing it wasn't a stab.

Embarassed for him, maybe. "Don't mind him, he's been under a lot of stress lately..."

An exchange from Mulan 2:
"I didn't know you gambled."
"Betting against my mother is not gambling. It's an investment!" Same goes for a sensei's students and friends. ;)

I guess they don't want to give anything away (to the point where the preview is completely irrelevant :p). It's called "Still Nobody", and Ruffington showed up briefly in this ep, so we're up for a rematch, I think.

LOL! Now that would be a boring episode...

But he's going about it the wrong way. Hun's been upgrading, Bishop's been more active, Karai's been going off the deep end, so of course there's gonna be more conflict... it's not because the Turtles have gone soft, it's more because the enemies have gotten harder. The Foot usually only messed with the Turtles when they got in their way (which was frequently), but Karai's got the Foot single-mindedly focused on the Turtles now (Snap out of it, Karai! Had to say it, sorry..). The Dragons have been pulling more heists, so they're coming into contact with the Turtles more. Bishop's been more active, so ditto for him. If the Turtles are losing out more, now, it's because they can't rely on physical confrontation alone, anymore. They need to change their tactics, but Leo's stubbornly clinging to what's always worked, and it just won't anymore. He's gonna kill himself and his brothers if he keeps trying to battle it out with all their enemies.

this was a decent episode any turtles is good turtles to me anymore sadly since fox likes to play stupid damn sports instead of its best show!
well let's see it's nice to finally get caseys dads back story that we got way back like 2 years ago in the dw comics....:roll:
I loved the opening as well this splinter is very much like the ones in the movies...he just happens to kick some major butt!
I got sad though with the casey parts to....yes I'm a big softy wanna make sumpin of it! hehe
umm yea man I was chearing casey on maybe I'm evil but man did I want him to kill hun.....to me huns really off or on....and well he totally off on this episode...he was on in dragons brew....I honestly missed bishop..and baxter..or even KaRAI for that matter we havn't seen much of the girl at all shesh!
but back to the subject at hand....what where the purple dragons taking anyways again? they just seem to be stealing things but whats the point really money?
and wow lets touch on leo for a moment I know some of you ladys would love to heheh anyways yea what a bone head I think maybe hes been watchin to much batman! but him doing that to that thug did remind me allot of the old comics so it was a nice touch.....but ummm him freaking out at the end totally reminds me of my spazo roomie ugh leo's outta hand seriously I'm suprised the guys havn't asked him if hes on drugs lol...
he's gonna get it next week I have a fealing about it.....it's awsome to finally get to see nobody next btw cause I missed the first time he was on the show......I'd also like to see more of april...she was training....and now what she's back to store owner again I guess...*shruggs*

Finally, finally a good Casey episode.

I also liked Leo's lecture at the end. I feel the same way, really.

Great episode! Who knew Splinter knew how to play poker. He should compete on Bravo's "Ultimate Poker.":lol: I can't believe Casey didn't let Hun die. I thought for sure he was going to let him fall (I would have:evilgrin: )but he did the honorable thing. Way da go Casey dude!! :D Leo blowing up at the end....:o ! I guess I'd be fed up too if the bad guys kept getting away. If Leo had been in Casey's spot, he'd totally would have let Hun die, no question. According to Mr. Laird in the answer to a letter, he said Leo's going to be the angsty practically the whole season. Get use to it people!

Yeah! Nobody's coming back! Looks like the guys are taking training more serious than ever. I guess they agree with Leo that it ain't fun and games anymore! Watch out Foot Clan! Watch out Purple Dragons! No more mercy.:evilgrin:

I guess I'm in the minority here because I agree with Leo. They really need to step it up or they could be toast. Just put yourself into Leo's head... If you fail finishing a job one more time, that could spell the end for you and your family. It's literally a life and death situation. Nothing is wrong with wanting to get better. This season has made me a huge Leo fan.

Very cool episode. Poker scene, funny and memorible! Leonardo, probably been taking advice on crime from watching BatMan or something.

Hun and PDs now own their own headquarters. Much nicer than the old hideway of the PDs.

The first episode to show Casey's dad, FINALLY!

Ruffinington out of Jail!?!

Some good moments, The ending was great with Casey at his father's grave.

I liked this. It was mostly a character story, but with a lot of good action. Leo’s outburst at the end was a long time coming, and I’m glad he finally expressed it. And I love how Raph said “He ain’t wrong.” He can’t bring himself to admit Leo’s right, so his brother’s simply “not wrong”. Loved that. :evilgrin:

And remind me to never play poker with Splinter. But he looked great in the visor. :D

It was a good episode but not great. I liked how the episode had a lot to do with Casey. I love the direction the series is heading. Leo's speach at the end was great and makes me think the series is heading for a darker version of the turtles. The turtles loosing battles is great makes the show more real. If I was Leo I to would grow tired of loosing battles and I feel he knows if not him then who will lead the turtles in the right direction. Lately I been bragging to everyone I know how great this series is and how I feel its more of an adult cartoon then it is for kids. The thing I look forward to most every week is the next episode of the turtles.

Hmm... I actually noticed it some episode ago, but I noticed it again here... April's eyes have turned blue this season. They were originally green.

I liked her better with green eyes. Now, she's starting to resemble another comic book redhead (movie version). Maybe she's got them freaky eyes that change colors now and then.

Other random obervations/peeves:

Why the shell where Leo and Raph concerned about parachutes when they must've had at least 8 hoverboards behind them?

I did not like Hun's new HQ. The building was realistic in that it accurately resembles the pretensious professional buildings of today. The Purpdrag HQ is set too far back from the curb, plus the ugly parking lot. Those plants were squinty, I thought, compared to the building. They were put in just cuz. I'm sure the zoning laws have changed since Shredder had his building built. In that case, Hun should've just bought an old building that looked more dignified and renovated the insided of it to his needs. But no. He opted for the tackier, pretensious design. To me, this somewhat depicts, that, try as he might, Hun willl never be of the same class as the Shredder.

I guess I'm sort of a new urbanist--that's why the building stood out to me. That's the kind of thing I hope to stop. Anyone with me on this?

Anywho, I think I'll finish with the random observations. For now.

The way the previews seemed to focus on Leo Im sure we all thought it would be a Leo ep...but nope...ended up being an ep that focused a bit on our fave vigelante, Arnold Casey Jones Jr! :D

Some of my fave things in this ep:
1: Raph and Casey learned to never play poker with a rat. :lol:

2: Casey Sr was hot!! :evilgrin:


Seriously tho....man...when Leo blew up I got scared... :tcouch:

I also cried at the end when Casey visited his dad's grave. :(


I loved this ep! And Im sure I'll love next week's eppy "Still Nobody"!! Woot!!! More Nobody!!! :D

very good episode, I adored the scene in the begining with Splinter and Casey and Raphael. That was some good comedy right there. I love this version of Splinter! So much better than that frail,weak, dull, words of wisdom that make no damn sence! Splinter from the old toon. Seriously Splinter from the old toon just spoke to hear his own voice I think.

Good episode, I enjoyed the Casey Vs. Hun fight. And let me say that I'm glad that the writters are finnally developing Casey and making him hard core! I really felt the anger and barely supressed violence from him while battleing Hun, I am glad he didn't sacrife his honor to kill Hun.

And on to Leonardo...oh boy, oh boy, oh boy:sick: . His anger at the end and hearing him chew the boys a new asshole actually made my ears burn. That was intence; greatly acted out by Leo's voice actor. I have to say that after that little out burst I personally felt rather dazed, and I didn't know what to think about Leonardo. However I will say this, even though he was harsh and his expectations for particular missions out come where unrealistic, I rather agree with him. Not on every thing but i could really hear the deep frustration in his voice when he was going off on his brothers and I sympathise with him. He was still way off base with practically calling his brothers amertuars though, but he was right.

And immediatly after his out burst I held my breath because I was sure that one of them was going to explode back, and I was shocked that none of them did. I think the fact that none of them did say anything back is a real testament to how much they understand Leonardo's passion to not fail again. And I have to say that Raphael deserves props in this, he really has matured and become more level headed. The fact that he didn't fly at Leonardo's throat when he started yelling at them shows how he has come along and how he understands where Leonardo is coming from. Go Raphael!

A few other things, Donatello was kick ass in with his driving that turtle is awsome, I was also a little surpriced by how he just shot at the truck behind him:o that shot would have killed those guys and he knew it! It Donatello is no light weight.

For once Michaelangelo didn't need saving this episode, good for him:P I liked how he was serious and even barking out some orders, very good, I want to see more of Mikey being serious in battles.

Good episode, the preview completley flew over my head, but it amused me, I haven't seen eppy with Nobody in it yet. Should be interesting.

In spite of many flaws, this ended up being a satisfying episode nontheless. Interesting, because the basic premise has been so many times already, this shoudn't have worked. The saving grace of Dragon's Rising was the revealing of Casey's backstory--showing that he is far more than a mindless psychotic vigilante. :) That was very, very good. Also, we are moving along right on schedule with Leo's moodiness. As many of us thought, Leo's biggest problem is that he can't deal with half-winning. He didn't get to "defeat the enemy" as completely as he wanted to.

I had to resist the impulse to shout "Ja, mein Führer!" after Leo's hissy speech. Okay. So he had a point. True, they can't afford to not complete their missions. BUT... I think it was quite clear that no one saw this as a game. Also, Don had a good point. They did their best. Therefore, I think it was very condescending of Leo to assume that his brothers did not take the matter seriously.

Were any of the four of them goofing off during the mission? No. In fact, I was rather surprised by Mikey's seriousness. He was giving commands, taking initiative, being responsible. That's huge. How was Leo unable to see this?

I think we have already discussed that in great detail. That is why I have no novels to write. So far we are right on schedule with Leo's descent into a**hole-ville. Sometimes, the problem needs to get worse before it gets better. Before you realize you're in the wrong, you may have to experience the negative consequences of your bad decisions. I'm waiting for that turning point when Leo realizes that his heart isn't actually where he thinks it is. When he is aware. Until then, I accept this GROWL SNARL Batman-wanna-be $h1t. It's part of the growth process. He will be a wiser person afterwards. I hope he will be a better person... That's not always a guarantee in this situation. :|

Oh, and for everyone who was whining about Leo's attitude--did you catch what Mikey said? He said he was also getting annoyed by it. If Leo is pissing you off, then rejoice, for the writers are manipulating you, the audience, just as they intended! :D

I really liked Casey's butt kicking and his bit of maturity...I about died laughing though, he helps Hun up and lectures him. Oh god that was to die for!!!!
I laughed at the lack of logic, how the hec can Hun & everybody get INTO the plane when they and everything not tied down should be getting pulled out of the plane?

Getting past that...

LEO! He's worse than Raph. Taking his anger out on everyone. Daaamn..lighten up Leo, what's in the past stays in the past! Take a chill pill man...i thought it interesting Raph agreeing.
I think Raph's compensating for Leo's lack of leadership too and I think it's overdue those two have a little discussion, heart to heart or something cause Leo's gonna self destruct if he keeps it up.
I can see Raph arguing with Leo, "since when did we become the city's superheros? The freak SWAT? The Freak Brigade? When!? I thought that's what that ddamn Silver Sentry and his geeks are for! *Stomps off* I'm sick 'o fighting this crap...I'm movin out of state..."

Hun's HQ would fit perfect in SoCal...I thought nothing of it!!

Poker...gambling..on a kid's show! ALL RIGHT!! woohoo!! I loved that bit.

Really interesting use of the characters lately...I really feel for poor Casey.
Deep character development only leads to one thing...an explosion in the plot!
(Or in Leo the amazing ticking bomb turtle.)
I wasn't sure how I felt about the way he acted at the end. I didn't expect Raph to take it in agreeance the way he did though.
Each week is just making me anticipate the next one more which is great!
Kudos to whoever writes the character dialogue.

I think I am hoping for another mini Karai scene again just to know what she is up to...

I finally saw the ep, and all I gotta say is..

Jeez, the writers are Really making him nasty... if they wanted the audience to get cheezed with him, they've definitely done their job, judging from the other posts in this thread. Even the others are getting fed up with it. The others KNOW its not a game... they risk their lives everytime they go out and do this stuff. Just because theyre not in the same frame of mind as HIM, doesnt mean they're doing anything wrong... and personally, I don't know if I'd Want to see them all acting like he is right now. I sooo cannot wait to see the a-- well, I'll keep quiet now. :roll:

But I'm in the same boat as Fleder. I'll be patient, cuz it Does usually get worse before getting better... *has a mango lassi of patience*

As many others said, the lack of physics was kinda noticeable. BUT... I DID like how they handled the rivalry between Casey and Hun. Lots of nice character development for Casey, even the relationship between him and his Father. More father-son stuff, the better... :goofygri:

Speaking of which... I LOVED the beginning with the whole poker match. I think Splinter's been watching too many of those tv shows... ;) the visor just topped it all.

I think we know what splinter does all the time when his boys aren't home. He is sitting around watching celebrity poker and texas hold em' on TV

Am I the only one who noticed Casey's father in this cartoon looks NOTHING like his comic book counterpart. In the Dreamwave comics, he's a fat, bald man.

Well in the Dreamwave series his dad was an arse and a former baseball player. :P

In this tho it seems he was a nice guy, rather hot, wise, and owned a store.

Speaking of Casey's parents....mom sure wasn't all 1950's pleasant in H.A.T.E. last season.....maybe Casey's memory was all idealized?

I thought Casey would've been a 70s kiddo...or 80s...not 50s..eerrr unlesss im misunderstanding the post hehehee

I was wondering about that, too. I mean, people change over time, but I was seriously scratching my head over that one.

Very good ep IMO....loved the character development and the emotional ending with Casey at the grave....these eps just keep getting better and better! :)
