I'm wondering if 'Nightmares Recycled' will ever be told.

I know we will never see it animated but why not a least see if Mirage will release a one-shot of it? At least, we would see if the episode would have any connection to the on-going story arc of the return of the original Shredder. It's a shame that 4kids had to be such dicks about it. Especially considering they are/were going to release this on DVD anyway. Oh, well. Maybe this is something we can try and convince Mirage to do.

The Terror of Death 03-18-2007 09:39 PM

If 4kids pulled the episode I doubt they could simply go behind their backs and complete the episode without them. But I too am wishing for the episode to somehow be released one day. The series would feel slightly incomplete without it. Well, atleast to me it would. A comic or script would be nice too though.

VaughnMichael 03-18-2007 09:59 PM

I agree it was finally connecting just about everything together.
And finally giving the garbage man a back story.

Blade 03-19-2007 07:11 AM

is there anyone we could ask about this even if it was released as a single dvd 1 ep 4 the fans i would buy it

I really wanna see the ep. this season is short enough as it is compared to the rest..

Chris 03-19-2007 12:21 PM

I'm hoping for the script to be on the DVD set. I really wanted to see storyboards combined with audio on the DVD but that's more than likely too close to actually airing it for the 4Kids execs.

I did ask Murphy if it wasn't included in special features could we see the script on the official site after the DVD release and he said it was possible. Certainly worth asking after the US DVD release.

You know, I don't see the big fuss about finishing it if it's just going to be released on DVD. If it's not going to air, what does 4kids care anyway?

tortugapower 03-19-2007 03:12 PM

the episode is finished to a point where it is watchable. There are minor animation fixes that need be done (Turtles having the wrong mask colors for example plus whatever retakes the director would have called for etc)

Also sound for the episode was never finished, so although there is dialogue for most of it stuff like punch reacts and music weren't added.

Over all watchable in its current form, but it would still mean thousands of dollars to finish and many of the people involved do not have the time in their schedules as they are going ahead with new episodes or working on other projects.

EDIT: perhaps the DVD will have this version straight up on it similar to how the unfinished material for Invader Zim is on its DVDs

Simple. Having this ep finished could potentially hurt 4Kids image by being so shockingly violent. No one is allowed to hurt 4Kids image for any reason other than 4Kids own idiotic ideas. I don't think I need to explain that one.

Ra 03-23-2007 05:46 AM

^^ Too good of a point.

Also, looking at things from an artist's point of view, it would be horrible. It's like having a half-painted canvus on display. You really feel dirty about it and you just want to finish it, but you can't. Hopefully they will be allowed to finish it all up and it might be a bonus episode for a DVD. If it can't get on DVD...well, they managed to show "Insane in the Membrane" over here in Australia, right? Why not "Nightmares Recycled"? Still, taking gobo's point into consideration, it's not likely that the episode will ever air. Quite a shame too...

Chris 03-23-2007 12:25 PM

I believe Murphy was asked something similar.

If I remember right he said that the exec change came around the time of Insane, had it come before it was produced then the episode would not have been made. He did say that the only reason it was released on DVD was because it was already complete. Nightmares hasn't been completed because these execs were already in place (they weren't for Insane) and therefore it won't be completed and won't be on DVD.

Where did you hear that tortugapower? I was thinking the best we could hope for as a special feature would be storyboard video with dialogue!

creativerealms82 03-23-2007 08:04 PM

Really I don't care. It seems like people only want to know about this episode because 4kids would not let it see the light of day. I really doubt it would have been any good. The Garbadgemen episodes are worse then your average Fast Forward episode. I really had no hopes for nightmares recycled and really I'm happy it's not going to see the light of day.

Time Mistress 03-23-2007 09:11 PM

I would have liked to see the Don/Raph interaction. But I could care less about Garbageman.

Casual Matt 03-26-2007 10:07 AM

Honestly, I'm bugged by the fact that this means there's essentially no episode 110.

But aside from that, the concept sounds interesting and unique.
Raph, Don, Casey, and April’s evening salvage operation lands them a one-way ticket to Recycle World – the Garbageman’s deadly realm of refuse! As if fighting for their lives in a world of lethal compactors and shredders wasn’t bad enough, they’ve got to do it all with Hun – who’s not thrilled to reveal that he and Garbageman have something in common – DNA!

NOTE: This episode was never completed. The script was finished and some animation had begun when 4Kids pulled the plug because it was deemed too controversial for a children's program (apparently Hun and the Garbageman were going to be conjoined twins that were surgically separated at birth).
I don't really get why this concept is so horrid. Is the idea of separating conjoined twins that controversial? I mean, it does happen in real life. They've gotten away with worse. Just watch episodes from Season Four like "I, Monster" or even worse, "Insane in the Membrane". Heck, even go back to Season One and you've got Shredder being decapitated. :ohwell:

gobo 03-26-2007 10:43 AM

That wasn't the problem. The amount of brutality shown in the episode was too overwhelming. There is the horror story that is Garbageman's origin (carved from Hun by a back-alley surgeon who likes to experiment on infants, then discarded as 'garbage') and people being scalded by acid (I imagine that's the payback Garbageman had in mind). That was all just too much for Fox to allow. Since there was no chance of it airing, it was shelved in the early stages of production, presumably as an animatic.

Ah, I see. That's pretty hardcore for a 4Kids show. Still, I would have liked to see some kind of finished product come from it, even if it had to be tonned down. Not only for the Garbageman backstory, but for the fact that it fills in a bit more of Hun's past.

Yeah. And a concept script would be great, too!

MrPliggins 03-27-2007 04:19 PM

This sounds like the best Garbageman episode yet...but I admit, I would probably be freaked out by it, let alone kids....

Gobo, where'd you get all this info on Nighmare?

AquaParade 03-27-2007 04:33 PM

hey, if all that is true, maybe we will be seeing this episode. It definitley has me intrigued.

you're partly right, but remember "Insane in the Membrane" gave Baxter a lot of character development,he was kind of annoying in the show, maybe this would had justified Garbageman's existance?!

maybe? Don't flame me!

Even knowing about this story, as well as the member drive one, and head of state in FF justify so many things for me about characters its not even funny.

Although no one's seen this, I still somehow feel like I know even less about it than the rest of you. Since I have no idea where you've gotten your information, I have to ask: What is the draw of the interaction between Raph and Don in this episode specifically? Or is it merely that they would have interacted more than usual in this ep, and you can't get enough Raph/Don interaction?

gobo 07-02-2007 12:51 AM

Raph and Don are polar opposites in personality. So, that, and the fact that we just don't see them interact for more than a few seconds at a time.

What about Turtles against HATE?

gobo 07-02-2007 11:14 AM

Nit-picker. :P That's one out of how many episodes?

Scandia 07-02-2007 11:20 AM

In "Touch and Go", Raph and Donnie stay up all night playing video games together.

Make that a second episode.

And I think that Raphael is more the polar opposite- make that shadow- of Leonardo.

gobo 07-02-2007 12:00 PM

>_< Fine. Nit-pick my every word. But, does the word hyperbole ring a bell? That's what I was going for.

BTW, Raph and Leo aren't opposites in my book. One is disciplined while the other isn't. Otherwise, they're nearly the same. They have the same ideals, just different methods. But, the other disciplined Turtle, Don, has an extra big difference, leniency. That's what he has in common with Mike.

So, let's think of it this way. If the Turtles formed a ring, Raph would be next to Leo for the passionate sense of justice they share and Mikey for the lack of discipline they share. Don would be next to Mikey for the laid-back attitude they share and Leo for the discipline. That puts Don and Raph on opposing sides of the ring as well as Leo and Mikey. This is why I don't see these pairs doing much interacting, but Mikey/Leo interactions get plenty more screen time than the other two's.

Raphael is a polar opposite to each and every one of his brothers. It's a crucial part of his character.

I'd like to see the Nightmares Recycled episode. It's a shame it never got completed. Another example of censorship hindering the turtles universe, I think.

Actually, technically, Raph is more the opposite of Donatello. If you go through personality traits, they are more different than any of the others.

And Raph is more similar to Leo than dissimilar. It's why they fight so much, lol. Plus, they deal with things in different ways (and yet the same, in a way).

I wanted another episode of Hun smashing Turtles!

Oh, yeah, good point. Okay, so I do care about Raph. And his bros. But I want to see Hun smash something or somebody!

I think this episode will eventually be released, as a part of the Fall '08 season (albeit reworked and edited). They finished the whole script, and put a lot of work into it, so it makes sense to me that 4Kids would try to salvage it.

ToTheNines 07-05-2007 10:35 AM

It sounds like a dumb episode to me, I hope the hun/garbage-man connection is left out of 2k3 cannon.

Really? may I ask why? I just happen to think it actully gives some life to an otherwise pointless character. I also love how just about everything in 2k3 is connected in one way or another.

ToTheNines 07-05-2007 12:03 PM

I just think of the garbage-man to be a filler bad guy, he needs no connection.

People thought the same thing of Nano and look what they did to him oh wait unless you haven't seen the member drive episode of the lost season yet then nevermind.
I've liked nano from the start.
I have to agree Garbage man was a stupid character but I only thought this because he came out of nowhere with no backstory and now he has one so he's ok in my book but his other 2 episodes are pretty lame besides his guards and the cool homeless people.

Because you like Hun or because you dislike Garbage-man? Either way, it shouldn't take anything away from Hun's character. He is still Hun.

I have to agree with Putrescent. 2k3 loops all kinds of plots throughout the series. They take their time telling the stories (for the most part) and keeping the fans interested in what's coming next.

Coola Yagami 07-05-2007 03:16 PM

Poor Hun, lol first he finds out he was workin half his life for a squishy lil Utrom, and then he finds out he was related to Garbageman of all people???? I'd like to see the look on his face when he found that out. LOL
