Splinter in Fast Forward
 

Would someone please tell me why Splinter had to “fast forward” with the Turtles? I mean, what purpose has he served at all?

In previous seasons, he’s fought the Shredder and the Foot Clan multiple times, been “kidnapped” by Utroms, prevent a coup in the Battle Nexus (okay, actually, he did this twice), fight off Triceraton and Federation invaders, been kidnapped by Bishop, try to obtain a cure for his mutated son, tried rescue his abducted sons from the Ninja Tribunal, and defeat the Tengu Shredder.

In Fast Forward, he watches soap operas, he grows a garden, he got bodyjacked by Jammerhead, implanted by Sh’Okanabo, fought in a bar brawl with Serling, messed around with the Journal, graduated the Turtles, and went time travelling with Don.

Okay, the writers could have found someone else (like Starlee, maybe) to get bodyjacked, implanted, and go time traveling. For graduating the Turtles, Cody could just have uploaded a holo-Splinter in the dojo.

Think of what might have been: after landed 99 years in the future, the four Turtles begin to drift away as a family. Don is obsessed with the future’s technology, Mikey is ecstatic to be able to walk the streets in broad daylight, and Raph is bitter and wants to go home. Leo finally wakes up to the fact that his family is collapsing, and has to bring them back together. Oh yeah, and help Cody deal with his crooked uncle Darius.

Thoughts, everyone? Sound like it could’ve been good?

While I'll agree that Splinter in Fast Forward hasn't been entirely useful, I think the Turtles graduating without his personal blessing would be a bit... hollow, I guess. Besides, if they get back to the present, wouldn't their graduation be nullified?

To address your other thoughts, it sounds like the beginning Vol. 2, which I don't mind. And I like the idea, but would it really work for a whole season-- living separately and all? I mean, I enjoy good solo episodes, but I prefer them living together for the most part. Nothing good ever seems to happen when they're away from each other (this is just based on what I've observed, which isn't too much to be honest).

Well, apparently he's doing something, based on what you just wrote here. You're proposed idea sounds like a crooked (forgive me) idea to have only one turtle doing something for the family, and that's not very wise; they're all supposed to have something constructive to do. Fast Forward is just fine the way it is.

And I'm more comfortable with them living together.

I'm pretty certain the only reason Splinter is in Fast Forward is because Peter Laird wanted him to.

Without Splinter, the Turtles lose the "family" aspect of them, and that's probably why he went to the future with them.

Its evident that the writers tend to avoid using Splinter in FF, (there's a lot of episodes where he isn't even in it!), but I'm pretty certain he's there just to keep up the family image.

Splinter's cool. I like them better together. I love it when Splinter trains with the Turtles- especially when he beats them. Haven't watched Fast Forward, but I can imagine this keeps the TMNT family and team aspect.

While he doesn't do very much, when he does interact it amuses me greatly. I love Master Splinter, and I would turn my back on FF if he wasn't there enough to at least make me go "Okay...he's safe at home meditating."

And yeah, I'm with them. *thumbs up at other posts* I don't like the idea of them being seperated. These are all the reasons I don't read the comics. Nasty things I have heard...*sagenod* o.0 Yoda I am?

They were just raised one level from genin to chunin. However, they were declared full-fledged ninjas at the end of the old toon; who knows, maybe the new toon might end the same way.

"Useless" (I use the term loosely) Splinter is better than no Splinter at all.

Splinter is one of the main characters. If the 4 brothers go into the future, he must go with them.

Plus its a great way to sell another action figure. :)

I'd say they had Splinter go with them to the future so as we saw in many episodes he could actually get some peace and rest up after years of aggravation and fighting the foot.
I also believe them just coming from saving the world in the lost season is cause for both splinter and the turtles mood changes.
They just came from a total apocalyptic world and then are suddenly swept up into this beautiful futuristic world.
I think all of you would be pretty damn happy as well if that just happened to you perhaps a bit scared as well just as they where in the first episode of Fast Forward.
I to questioned Splinter place in Fast Forward at first but as the show progressed I am happy to have him there.
And if he wasn't I'm quite sure the fans would have complained about that as well giving another bad strike against Fast Forward.
I mean he has said things about watching soaps which I hate but as we can see it was said in the new CGI film as well so the blame for that idea can not be placed on the head of Fast Forward.
And why in the world would Starlee go to a grand event like that? She's just a worker not part of the O'Neil family much like the turtles and Splinter are to Codey.
Holo-Splinter yeah why not give the fans another reason to complain about this being a cold lifeless Splinter I can see it all now.
Also I could see if Splinter staying behind back in the present day NYC that something bad could have happend to him or he could have gone insane of the fact the turtles vanished.
Hell he could even pass away while they're gone. While I would enjoy a storyline like that I can honestly say I wouldn't want to see that happen to Splinter on tv.
Quite frankly the one who should have stayed in the past is Donatello while he has always been my favorite turtle he really has no place in Fast Forward there are people who are light years smarter than him now and he really doesnt serve much of a role beside being a lacky to much smarter characters from the future he should have stayed behind and they could have written that he was in our time trying to bring the guys and splinter back with the help of April.
And my thoughts about your idea sound like you've been watching the new movie one to many times.

The only good thing about Splinter being in the future is that the Splinter toy in the FF series is actually good. Other than that, feh.

I guess when they did the earliest concepts of the show, they actually had Splinter doing things, but then they wanted to dumb the scripts down. I really dislike how Splinter has to be so cutesy now, and all he cares about is watching soaps. I mean, the joke once or twice would work, but he's basically just there for the sake of being there.

Putrescent enough with the old toon Michaelangelo is a stoner crap alright :roll:. Old toon Mike was a little bit more intelligent sounding than that people. I'm tired of all the refrences to him sounding like some kind of brain dead pothead. The eightes cartoon had him sound like a surfer because that was considered "cool" back then. Alot of cartoon characters had that surfer persona back in the eighties. And I know every one is going to challenge/flame me on this too :roll:

But as to Splinter in FF...I'm still get used to his overly simplified character design. I really don't care for it. His eyebrows really stand out in a clashing sort of way that I find cringe-worthy. And yeah, he needs to lay off the soap-opras :-? I wonder if he watches Passions on NBC. That soap is so horriable it would fry any ones brain make them act weird. :lol:

Hey, I ain't making fun of Mikey. I love old toon Mikey. In fact, a lot of my word choices and dialogue are thanks to the surfer Mikey. Especially cowabunga and holy guacamole and dude.

After all, I think most everybody got hooked on TMNT because of the old toon.

As for Splinter, I'll bet he watches Gilmore Girls.

Btw thats a really rude statement while most stoners are annoying as hell it's really wrong to generalize people because I know plenty of stoners who are very wealthy business men and women.
Um and he does sound like he is because of how often he talks about how he "has a major case of the munchies" like in every damn episode.

And Mike in the old toon is suposed to be a california surfer type I live in california buddy and most of the surfers are allot like what I talked about.
It's a cartoon and an opinion you don't think it's true but I do so "Don't like it don't read it".
And how to splinter looks in FF he and the turtles to me look almost exactly like how Jim Lawson draws them infact if not better so I think that says so much about everything Jim being the main artist for tmnt and all.
And as your tired of people bitching about stoner 80's surfer mike I'm tired of people complaining about splinters soaps it's stupid we get it but you know it's in the movie also...so I'd pretty much say it's not a new idea.
Splinter would sit and watch tv while the turtles where away in the old toon and archie comics as well so it's really nothing new.

Ask Peter Laird that. He killed Splinter off years ago.

Not in the TV or movies, he didn't.

They where going to do it in the next mutation but the second season never happend.

Of course he would'nt, because younger audiences watch the cartoons, where as they don't read the comics and there targeted towards the older fans

Actually, the very first ep let him fight. Then we get the soap opera thing (which, btw, I don't believe is canon-- it's fanon, yet has become canon)-- yes, they have not used him as much as they could have. I got that feeling during that fourth season as well.

And he was starting to be used more. Even as a fighter (which he should be the best, no doubt). But yes, Splinter is part of the Family, and though I enjoy the guys exploring on their own, I would not like it if they got rid of my :tlove: :goofygri: Splintie!

Pfft...the f*ck they would be, they'd learn to move on without him. Get out of your collective "safe zone" asses for the sake of character expansion.

I am glad they had Splinter go with them to the future. I also prefer them all living together. It just wouldn't be the same if they split up. For one thing it would most likely lead to some turtles being neglected screen time if they split up tv is not the best medium to attempt things like that. If they weren't all living together I really think it would hurt the show overall and could of even possibly ended it in my opinion. Personally I feel the guys still need Splinter though as they've become more capable and self sufficient he has sort of stepped back a bit and let them do more on their own. It seems to me as if he's trying to see how they do on their own. He's still there if they need him but for the most part they are learning not to rely on him as much as they did before. In early 2k3 he stepped in rather often to get them out of trouble. Personally I see quite a bit of character development here. *shrug*

umm, look Putrescent I wasn't exactly trying to pick a fight in my post so there is no need to talk down to me and tell me to get over my self for responding the way I did. I just didn't care for the eye rolling stero-type that Michaelangelo in the old toon was portrayed as a stoner. And I do find that offensive since even though some people who are stoners might be succusful, as you pointed out, the general view is that they are losers who aren't very smart, which is how its usually used as when applied to Michaelangelo. I find it as a put down to a favorite character of mine, and most any other fan of their favorite turtle would take offence as well. And yes I know that there are alot of drugged out surfers in california too so I don't need to be told that. Its kind of the same as the little jabs Donatello character gets about being gay because he wears purple or acts a certain way, that is unfair to his character.

You sort of contradicted your self here, first you tell me not to tell you what post, then you turn around and tell me the same thing with my opinion on Splinter in FF. Well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Aside from the comics (which not everyone is into) containing beer, everyone knows no significant or insignificant TMNT universe has had a thing to do with drugs or alcohol, aside from those couple things in the old toon having the TMNT speaking AGAINST drugs. All that about Michaelangelo being a stoner, Donatello being gay, everyone knows it's just a bunch of stupid, joking, horse's-a** bullcrap that people make up for fun. Some people find it funny, other don't. I, like you, don't. But I know it's all just a big sarcastic joke.

Uh yeah like I said before...cartoon...being...taking way to seriously...nuff said.

I'd say ZariusTwo and Sunshine both have good points. I'd never thought of not having Splinter step in to fight as character development for the TMNT before.

No it's more like the person making a joke calling some one to serious about a cartoon and I wasn't even talking down to you in the first place I was making a comment about a cartoon character on a show that I love not talking to you about stoners. I mean for christ sakes man I watched an episode this morning and Mikey makes the comment to Leonardo about being "half baked" I mean geez what more proof do you want that they wherent taking it to seriously and Mike was pretty much a joke or the brunt of the jokes in the old toon.
btw looking back over now with what you said you didn't find yourself to be one bit rude? Wow really? cause I'd call some one who comes into a thread about FF Splinter screaming about one comment which was a joke about Mike and turning it into a huge deal rude.

I'm surprised I didn't realize it sooner, but Splinter is only in FF because they wanted to sell his action figure. Think about it. The Paleo Patrol set had a Splinter figure, but he was never there. So, by putting him in this series, the action figure is at least show specific. Even though they got the accessories wrong.

That logics a bit messy there good dr. if they wanted to sell toys by the logic you have Splinter would have been in the savanti time traveling episode.
I think they just want to sell toys but I don't think the episodes really had much to do with it when it came to 2k3 since they would release characters a long time after they apeared on the air.

no what I mean is that you (like every one else here) are a member of a message board that is dedicated to four fictional characters that are freaks of nature and live in the sewers and learn ninjitsu from a giant rat. And yet the fans on here talk about them and analise their thoughts and actions (even the future of its show and comic book) on a regular basis as if they where actual people. But you pretty much stepped back and adopted a superority stance and said: "Uh...yeah...like a said...cartoon being taken way to seriously". Who are you to say whos taking what in their fandom in this franchise to seriously when every one here to some degree (including you) does just that. Like your annoyance with the critism fans have shown toward Lawsons art, when its just a comic book. And of course I know that Michaelangelo in the old toon was a "comedic" character. Just about every character, theme and aspect in the old show was for comedic effect.
