TMNT Anime

ok, so i've heard/read about a TMNT Anime. i want to know what's it all about? is it another series entirely? was it related to the OT? i want all the info someone can give me. also is it on dvd? :-?

Koi 06-05-2010 10:30 PM

It is basically two really random episodes that were made to create a new toy line. Surprisingly, made without permission of Mirage.

TheCanadiandrome 06-05-2010 11:04 PM

ah, so is it on dvd?

gobo 06-05-2010 11:25 PM

Illegitimately so, yes. It was a quasi-spinoff of the OT done the very year the series ended. Never knew it was done without Mirage's permission though...

Those episodes were pretty random weren't they? with evil Devil Shredder and the Saint Turtle. I think some of the dromers dubbed one of the eps.

Where did you hear that? Mirage and MWS are both listed in the credits, and Mirage acknowledges it on the official site, so I doubt that's true...

Don't forget the official TMNT Manga!:P

And Dr. Spengler's translation project:

They fandubbed both! ^_^

Candy Kappa 06-06-2010 09:13 AM

they where just made to promote toys, like season 1

I really like the angle of making then look like random episodes with a synopsis of what have happened, had I not know the where only 2 episodes before I saw then. I'd seriously wonder where the rest of the show where.

It is possible that the recap of how the turtles found the mutastones that appears at the beginning of the anime episodes may have been chronicled in Super Turtles #1 of the Dengeki Comics manga series. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who might own a copy of that issue.

For the longest time it was thought that the two episodes were numbers 2 & 3, and that episode 1 was "missing" (as in, not found yet by English-speaking fans).

Ninjinister 06-06-2010 03:34 PM

Ha ha, uncanny. I just watched these yesterday.

They're fun romps, not meant to be taken too seriously. It's essentially the Japanese using American characters to make fun of Japanese culture. The first episode has the Turtles taking on a sentai-ish transformation, including the four of them combining into one character, the Turtle Saint. The second one had them donning armor akin to Saint Seiya.

Our buddy Wes at Scary Crayon has kind of an overview/review of the episodes:

Japan, obviously. Other than that, it's like looking for the Lost Ark. I've been trying for at least a year and a half.

damn, figures! oh well, if i can find the dvd of the anime i'd be happy

Ninjinister 06-06-2010 06:24 PM

As was said before, the OVA isn't available on official DVD, so it's a bit sketchy. But it shouldn't be tough to find on eBay; I got mine for $4.99 plus shipping. It's decent (although not great) quality and it's subtitled (although obviously not professionally).

Something I heard about here, if I remember correctly.
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/vid...s/12186-tnmt01

I'm not sure...

Candy Kappa 06-06-2010 07:33 PM

I think Marzgurl is wrong on that one.
The toys is official and the manga is, and the Anime got Mirage listed up in the end credits

the metal turtles part3

TheCanadiandrome 06-07-2010 01:07 PM

well i'm sure going to try to find it

Koi 12-17-2010 12:02 AM

gobo 01-11-2011 09:57 AM

Digital Ghost 01-11-2011 10:07 AM

 Yeah, I've seen this before... not really my cup of tea but it's still an interesting take.

deadpoolRKO 01-11-2011 10:24 AM

lol yeah im def. not feelin it but it's crazy to see

DrSpengler 01-11-2011 10:37 AM

Well, if you're into the Super Mutant Turtles, then you might want to check out the manga translations on my site. I've completed the first volume (of 3) which details how they got the Mutastones and so forth.

http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2009/05/tmnt-manga.html

I'm not crazy about Japan's Super Turtles or Metal Turtles franchises, though they're amusing in their own way, I suppose. But then, I'm not crazy about at least 50% of the original Fred Wolf cartoon, so I'd say we're even.

TheCanadiandrome 01-11-2011 02:23 PM

i'm liking all of it! Japan's got some crazy stuff. love it!

Ninjinister 01-11-2011 02:30 PM

I actually really like the TMNT anime. If you know your Japanese history and entertainment, it's a brilliant send-up of such.

newb 01-11-2011 03:14 PM

interesting take on the turtles. I just remember the original series I use to watch it all the time when I was younger

I prefer the Mutant Turtles Gaiden over any of the other Japanese TMNT stuff.

DrSpengler 01-11-2011 05:11 PM

As do I.

As do I...

Eiko 01-11-2011 05:35 PM

I dont mind the Super Turtles quite funny to watch.

Candy Kappa 01-11-2011 06:36 PM

why do we even need a search button...

Kendamu 01-11-2011 08:34 PM

So that we can complain about necro threads instead.

Candy Kappa 01-11-2011 09:34 PM

but they need a good resurrection now and then, to stretch their bony legs.

TheCanadiandrome 01-12-2011 02:51 PM

the Manga and the anime, i've got it all!
