I also learned that directly (even the Hamato Yoshi-Splinter difference between the 1987 cartoon and the movies) because one of the first TMNT things I ever bought was a VHS tape with the first season.

Well, most people don't have the time to study every aspect of the TMNT universe, so mistakes are likely to occur.

Is this just for franchises? Let's compare to music. I don't read about singers and bands I like in gossip magazine, and think they should leave their private lives alone. Am I not a fan of them then?

I think it at least should go for cartoon and comic characters.

When someones calls themselves fans they should know the origin of the character.
If a person don't know basic information about a character they are not a fan.

That just makes you sound like a snob. Plenty of people were fans of Wolverine, for example, and before Origins I'm willing to bet a majority didn't even know he had bone claws. They're fans cuz they like the character, not cuz they know every little detail.

if someone didn't read the comics from 93 to 2000?, don't remember which year Apocalypse bonded him with Adamantium. they wouldn't know until Origin came out. And in the animated series I think he stated that the claws are not his own, they came with the Adamantium.

but with the Turtles, they always been turtles in every incarnation. But maybe his only memory of the turtles are the episode where Mikey turns into a human.

Not only that, but a lot of people were introduced to him via the first movies, where origin was barely given (until the wolverine movie).

Not only that but Wolverine 'didn't have' bone claws until recently. It was a given they just came with the Adamantium fusing. When Magneto ripped the metal out of his body, they suddenly came up with 'oh wait, he had bone claws all along'. IMO it was cause it took so long for him to get his adamantium back, and well.. Wolverine without his claws for a few years.. so yeah.. give him bone claws....
