June's Official Technodrome Artjitsu!!

Welcome to this month's Artjitsu.

The idea is you take a photo/theme/question or whatever and RUN WITH IT. That's right. Using the topic below as your inspiration, create a work of art. Look at it as a learning experience, and do a careful study, or look at it as a fun way to express and show your individualism and go crazy with it. Stay as close to, or stray as far from the topic as you wish. Do a sketch, do it inked, do it colored, do it painted, do whatever.

A quick explanation of how Artjitsu will work:

Our drawoff will be monthly. New topics will go up every month, and you have a month to complete a piece.

This month's topic is: The TMNT in a diffrent time period!

Get to work! :D

Kameko 06-02-2003 02:56 PM

Heh, this should be interesting.

*starts scheming*

Jephael 06-02-2003 03:10 PM

Now that school's out, I may actually have time to give this a try.

Nate 06-02-2003 03:58 PM

A different time period? Or, just at a different point in time.. I started a drawing of the TMNT saving themselves from being mutated, but that wasn't in a different time period, just 15 or so years ago.

Nturtle 06-02-2003 04:15 PM

I'm thinking more of a diffrent time period, like in the stone age or something.

Nate 06-02-2003 04:28 PM

OK.. I got to thinking, and I'm going to use my current picture for a fanfic/comic .. I might make one for the artjitsu to, I just don't know what of.

Deepflame 06-03-2003 10:13 AM

Ohh yes, this one I'm not gonna miss ;)

Nturtle 06-03-2003 04:50 PM

Cool! :D
You've got the whole month to work on it, but getting an early start never did anybody any harm.

Friction X 06-03-2003 06:29 PM

I think I may actually be up for this one. Thank god school's out. More time for art, Turtles, and fun! Yay!

The Stryker 06-03-2003 06:51 PM

can i draw a crossover pic? its just cause i have a good idea for the different time period thing

cqb101 06-04-2003 12:20 PM

I can't wait to see this!

The Defibrillator 06-04-2003 04:47 PM

great idea Nturtle! I hope I can enter this month

JameO 06-09-2003 06:50 PM

These might be some cool art. I might even make one although it might look bad it might be fun.

LoMeinHu 06-12-2003 04:08 PM

Hey guys,

I'm a turtles fan, but I just stumbled onto this site last night. I've sketched out really, really quickly a pic for this month's artjitsu. I wasn't sure what to do, but I came up with a futuristic-firefighting ninja turtle. Haha, I know, it sounds cheesy. So, with my first post at the technodrome, here's my first pic:

Nate 06-12-2003 06:16 PM

I would absolutely love it, if it weren't a firefighting turtle.. the futuristic design is great.. I just don't like the firefighter idea. You definantly have talent though.

The Defibrillator 06-12-2003 07:26 PM

Wow that's awesome!

I see you haven't been properly welcomed yet, so Welcome to the Technodrome! I'm TMNH! I hope you stay and show us some more of you artwork!

*hands LoMeinHu a mango of welcome*

CookSux 06-12-2003 07:26 PM

Holy Shimoly that's pretty cool.

Friction X 06-12-2003 07:55 PM

:o Wow...can I have lessons? Pleeeeeeeeeease? :)

Welcome by the way. I'm Fx. What else is there to say? Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Nturtle 06-12-2003 08:04 PM

Wow!! Cool!!! 8)

Looks kinda crazy go awesome stormtrooperish!!! Welcome to the forums hope ya' stick around!! *gives LoMein a mango of welcome*

LoMeinHu 06-13-2003 11:00 AM

Hey guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome. :) I like that the welcome comes with a mango. I love mangoes! As for a drawing tutorial, I'm not too good at teaching, or more specifically, I wouldn't know where to start. I basically self-taught comic art by copying Spidey comics over and over again. Once you get the basic proportions of a person down, it's only a matter of practicing the turtles' unique head shape and ovals for their shells. I like to make my turtles about the same proportions as say, Wolverine: basically short and wide. Perhaps in the future I'll TRY giving a short lesson on how I do the turtles' heads, but even I'm still learning how to draw them from all the angles. It's all about practice, and there's plenty of pics around this site to copy.

Anyways, this month's topic is really cool, so I decided to whip up another drawing. It's a bit static, but I hope you like it anyways. Oh, like my firefighter drawing, I just did it really quickly in between my hectic schedule, so I hope you guys don't mind the sketchiness. I also excited to see other ppl's drawings!

Nturtle 06-13-2003 11:29 AM

Cool!!! I like the way the shell looks on the knight turtle!!! :D

Also, I think the sketchiness of the futuristic firefighter turtle is good!! It brings more character to it!

HorseTechie 06-13-2003 01:26 PM

:o Wow...

The Firefighter was pretty good, until I saw the 'knight in shining armor'. I have thing for knights.. I dunno why! :D

But I like how you designed the shell-armor, as well as the overall suit. I also think the medium that you use just adds to it. Is that an ink wash?

BTW... welcome!

Glad you liked the knight. As for the medium, it's pretty plain. I just used a pen and a sharpie to outline the pencil lines, and then used about 3 different shades of Prismacolor markers. That's it. Like i said, it was pretty sketchy, so that's probably why it looks "washed." :D

The Stryker 06-13-2003 06:35 PM

well heres mine....its not that good cuz i made it at 5:00 when i was practically passing out on my chair

its too big to scale here so heres the link

w00t for Prismacolors :D .

I would enter, but I don't have a way of getting any drawings up on the net other than a REALLY bad looking webcam.

Raven 06-13-2003 07:19 PM

LoMeinHu you are very good how many years have you been drawing

cqb101 06-13-2003 07:24 PM

All of the art is great! Keep it up!

Thanks for the compliments (and everyone else's)! Hmm...that's a tough question...I've always liked drawing since I was little. But I don't think I got into comic book art until around 10 years ago, just about the time the original He-Man, TMNT, etc. kind of kicked off. I'm a huge fan of Spidey, so I started copying pages out of Amazing Spidey, then drawn by artist Mark Bagley, who does Ultimate Spidey now. I've been doodling whenever I can since, especially during class. :D So the short answer is 10 years, but I can't really pinpoint how long I've actually been drawing. Hope that answers your question.

Keep the drawings coming!

Friction X 06-14-2003 07:10 AM

That's awesome LoMein. I wish I had ten years experience, but that means I would've had to start when I was eight, and I'm sad to say I didn't even know what a comic book was then. I bought some Prismacolor to try my hand with a while back, but I definately don't have the hang of it yet. I am working on my entry, though.

Kali 06-14-2003 12:33 PM

Wow, those are some great pics, LoMein.

Now I'm all self-conscious about showing my pic... :tcouch:

Leo656 06-14-2003 01:04 PM

I wanna see it Kali... I love your stuff. :D

The Stryker 06-14-2003 01:36 PM

actually post it!! after lomein it was mine! so you can draw a pencil and it would be great compared to the last entry.....

Kali 06-14-2003 01:56 PM

Okay, okay, but only because I really like you guys...

www.geocities.com/kaligargoyle/june-artjitsu.jpg

Yeah, I like knights too, but I happen to think chainmail is so much sexier than plate armor. I've got another idea, but I have a few other things to finish first.

SlayerX 06-14-2003 02:23 PM

:o Thats good Kali! What did you use to color them? Whatever you used it makes it look awesome! :D Lets see more artwork :) (From everyone  )

Nturtle 06-14-2003 02:30 PM

Raph is a hero in shining armour eh? :D Thats a good picture Kali!! I agree with Triceraton, your coloring style is awesome! And has improved a lot the past year.

Heh, thanks. I used Prismacolor colored pencils, ('bout three or so layers,) plus some ink in a couple places, and regular pencil to do the chainmail. Yeah, hell if I'm going back to Crayola after using this brand. :D

The link doesn't work for me, but I DID check out your site. Good stuff! TONS of stuff! I wish I can do more drawings in my spare time. I haven't worked with Prismacolor color pencils in a while, but yes, they are THE best color pencils out there.

CookSux 06-15-2003 03:31 AM

Lol Kali, Raph looks like this one wrestler I remember from back in the day who used to be in the original nWo.
