How well is the Nick TMNT doing in Japan?
 

How well are the Nick TMNT doing in Japan so far? Ever since it's debut there (if it did yet) I have been wondering how well it's been doing. Given that the show quite heavily features Japanese and some of the culture, I'm guessing that it likely will be a big hit.

Any ideas (or even links) as to what it's state is over there?

Well, we're starting to get a whole lot of merch from over there, so that's gotta be a sign of something. International exclusives always speak to successes, I'd say. At any rate, there's a crap ton of fan art on Pixiv (Japans Deviantart, basically, minus the talentless weirdos for the most part), lots of turtle talk on Twitter, & there's a mini-manga being published in one of their local comic magazines, though I forget the name. Must be doing pretty well!

I'm curious how CG cartoons are received over there in general. Most if not all anime is 2D, so I'm wondering how they see a CG series.

Man they love the 2012 tcest, especially the ones that involve Raph, he makes a great tsundere in this incarnation.

Do they call April, "loli April" over there? God I hope not.

This intrigues me as well! It's interesting that anime doesn't really get produced with CG animation of any sort.

This is something I always wanted to know myself. Some anime will use CG models for certain characters or scenes (Kirby: Right Back at Ya!) but never a full CG cartoon. Even then, the CG is always cell-shaded such as the Ape Escape anime.

I see a lot of Japanese artist on Tumblr and Deviant art doing 2012 turtle art and I think they have successful merch of tmnt as well.

I have a co-worker who is going over to visit family in Japan next month, I'll have her investigate. 8)

TMNT has got to be doing well in Japan. Revoltech which does mostly anime characters has an awesome TMNT set coming out soon. I have seen Japanese exclusive TMNT merchandise selling out too. I missed out on some good stuff. Japan loves stuff that is cute and also stuff that is plain weird, and this show has both.

Not to be a wet blanket, typically most series premieres have very strong ratings, even the U.S. premiere of Nick TMNT was the #1 Kids Program on cable:

I've been seeing Japanese fanart here and there, so I would take that as an indicator that it's doing fairly well.

I don't think she would. I don't know much about Loli stuff other than the Lolita fashion style. I'm a fan of gothic Lolita, Classic Lolita, and Kuro Lolita. The clothes are awesome. I envy those who can dress in this fashion.

My foot ninjas fron japan are telling me that it is doing great there. That to be expected as it focus on nina action and the japansese culture.

That aside, in Japan, does the show only air on TV Tokyo or does it air on other stations?I fail as i live here and don't know jack. lol

speaking first hand, eh - there isnt a craze like one would expect.

I believe this is mainly due to its TV Time Slot in the morning.

I would say, 80% of kids are out of the house and on their way to school by 7:30am. Its hard and near impossible to randomly stumble upon this show and catch Turtle Fever.. A kid would have to "DV-R" it and watch it later.. for most, this just isnt happening.

Toys R US, Yodabashi, Yamada Denki.. Major retailers are starting to Carry Playmate TMNT Action Figures & Vehicles now. Speaking from one that frequents toy stores, I just dont see them flying off the shelves. Kids just arent making the connection to the Television Show and the Toys being displayed to them..

In fact, its kind of cool (well, cool for me) to see a fully stocked shelf at every store of the current Series 1 Toy and Merch Offerings..

Yes, there are some people looking at and buying TMNT, but they seem to be old school faithfuls that are genuinely interested in the new CG Series.

A friend of mine told me recently about the toys at Toys r Us. I was like cool, I should get some pics. lol

And yeah, if it's airing at that time, I doubt most kids can see it, unless Kids Station rebroadcast it. The best time to air such things are on Sundays. Kids are usually at home.

That aside, which part of Japan are you in?

If you go to Nakano and frequent Nakano Broadway, you should find some Turtles merch. I did..but mostly Gen I designed things...but I also didn't check for 2k12 stuff due to lack of interest at the time. Either way if you want to experience some nostalgia in general (not just Turtles stuff) I recommend it.

I've seen many wonderful japanese artists drawing TMNT 2k12 lately on tumblr, so I think there's a healthy amount of fans there. :D

There's a Japanese site kinda like YouTube that has all the currently aired Japanese episodes. The first episode has over 33,000 views right now and last Saturday's episode has over 1,000 right now. Every Saturday a user submits the new episode there.

I know I'm not allowed to share links to full episodes publicly but if I'm allowed to send them through PM, I will for anyone that wants to see them. The site has some adult adds, though (I thought I should say)

I'm not to crazy for the voices. I think Michelangelo sounds kinda like a crazy, little, old Japanese lady that would live in a trailer.

I actually think the nick TMNT would do well there, since Ninja heroes are a staple of Japanese pop culture/fiction. (Goemon the mystical ninja, Naruto, Ryu from the Ninja Gaiden series, Sheena from Tales of Symphonia, etc.) They even teamed up with a ninja guardian in the TMNT OVA. Even though it's not anime, the turtles should fit right in! :D

Not if it's not in a decent time slot, I couldn't see it doing all that well and 7:30 on a weekday morning is good for like...housewives and preschoolers too young for Kindergarten (which students can start as young as three), not like elementary school kids who are probably already on their ways to school by then. The best time to air kids shows here are Sundays. Kids also don't use the internet very much here, compared to other places like say the UK or the US.

I was reading the comments for the first ep. A couple mentioned that it was nostalgic. Another I asked for ep 2. Others mentioned that they loved it. That's a good sign.

So anyway just saw the first ep. Not much dialog change from what I can catch. Sucks they changed the intro song, though, but I know the music group. The song's ok. The ending sequence, I like. The song didn't feel as generic, like pretty much all current J-pop music within the last few years but not a fan of that surfer sound, as far as the Turtles go, but at least it's a tad better than our version, imo. I like the scenes and stuff they used for it. Still don't care for the intro theme change. For Spongebob that's not changed, just the lyrics to the song are changed to Japanese but the music is the same. Oh, and the ending theme is called "Booyakashaa" by some group called the Urufuruz...or maybe "Wolves"? Don't know the group either way.

The voices were ok, I guess. Mikey sounds familiar though and so does Donnie. I doubt I know them though. I rarely ever watch anime stuff aside from older series. Raph has kind of a strong masculine way of speaking from what I could catch. I didn't mind Donnie, until the part where he was telling Splinter and the others that they had to help Kirby and April. It just sounded....bad to me. I dunno.

I wish Leo sounded younger. One thing I liked about Biggs was how he had that strong "hero" portrayal, but then switch to "teen voice", like, "We must fight for justice" *the others ignore his Space Hero speech* "Are? Minna matte yo! [Hey wait everyone!]" or whatever. lol The main reason I actually wanted to check out the Japanese version was for the Kraang. lol

Oh yeah, Donnie seeing April. He was more like "She's the best girl ever" or maybe something equivalent to "She's the best girl in the world" something like that. lol

Well, I can say this...it's interesting. Sucks I can't just watch this on TV.
