How do you pronounce "Rahzar?"

Is it RAY-Zar or RAZ-ar?

Sometimes the characters pronounce his name one way or the other. In the Nick episode "Vision Quest" Mikey said "Raz-ar" and so did April in one scene in TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze.

Yet other times characters call him, "RAY-zar" too.

What is the correct way?

TheSkeletonMan939 01-18-2015 10:46 AM

The 'h' makes me think RAZ-zar, but I personally have always gone with RAY-zar. It sounds better.

For the definitive answer you'd probably have to find whoever came up with the character and ask what the pronunciation is.

Aaronardo 01-18-2015 12:08 PM

Same as above. It looks like RAZ-ar, but it sounds better imo like RAY-zar.

CyberCubed 01-18-2015 12:28 PM

I thought it was supposed to be "RAY-zar" because it sounds like a razor, you know, the device people shave their beards with?

I've been using razors the wrong way then.
Eh eh eh.

Netkeeper 01-18-2015 01:27 PM

Rah-zar.

You know. Like it's spelt.

Prowler 01-18-2015 01:32 PM

If it's in English I pronounce his name as "Rah-zar".

I too always said Ray-zar. Now I sometimes say Rah-zar like in the Nick series. I prolly alternate between the two unconsciously.

sdp 01-18-2015 02:36 PM

I like Rah-zar but I guess Ray-zar is ok. I guess it depends on the turtleverse we're talking about for the official name.

MsMarvelDuckie 01-18-2015 03:01 PM

It was originally Rah-zar in SotO, so I'd go with that.

IndigoErth 01-18-2015 03:38 PM

Another vote for Rah-zar.

Likewise I assume 'razor' was prob the inspiration, but Rah-zar also takes less effort to pronounce, even if the difference is minor, so not surprised if it's common.

snake 01-18-2015 03:44 PM

Rah-Zar. I like it better, but I've used RAY Zar before.

Venom 01-18-2015 05:07 PM

I say Rah-zar, like it was originally pronounced in SoTo, and again by Mike in the Nick show when he renamed Bradford.

Azul35 01-18-2015 05:32 PM

I Pronounce it as Rah-Zar, like in the Second Movie.
I think it sounds menacing.

pennydreadful 01-18-2015 05:45 PM

Another one for the "Rah-zar" camp here - SoTO shaped my opinion of how it should be pronounced.

The Boston Ninja Turtle 01-18-2015 06:11 PM

I have always said RAY-zar....pretty sure thats what shredder says too when he "announces" them

Correctomundo. & I followed suit, 'cause he named the character (in canon, anyway).

pennydreadful 01-18-2015 06:21 PM

Actually, that's a good point. I guess it's like how everyone pronounces "Leia" differently in Star Wars: A New Hope.

But... they say Ray-zar in SotO...

CyberCubed 01-18-2015 06:30 PM

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was only April who called him, "Raz-ar" in TMNT II, while everyone else called him, "RAY-zar."

I remember people saying April mispronounced his name.

pennydreadful 01-18-2015 06:57 PM

There y'go. It's April's fault - she's led us astray. So it should technically be pronounced "Ray-zar", if we're going by Shredder's pronunciation, yes?

ProactiveMan 01-18-2015 07:57 PM

This is an interesting topic. I've always said "Ray-zar" but it seems odd that a name spelled Rahzar would be pronounced that way.

Tokka is interesting too. They say "Toe-car" but it looks like it should be "Tock-uh" based on the spelling.

Netkeeper 01-18-2015 10:21 PM

I seem to remember Rah-zar in SotO myself, oddly...

Don't make me rewatch it just to confirm this.

Venom 01-19-2015 04:51 AM

Someone should do a compilation vid on each time someone said "Rahzar" in SoTO!

Leo656 01-19-2015 05:47 AM

I would've liked to hear Shredder explain how he picked those dumb names, personally.

Shark_Blade 01-19-2015 07:46 AM

RAH- ZAR

Easy like a kindergartener's spelling bee. Other than that is just weird. *looks at thread* Where do those even come from... Ray zar? the hell..?

...From the movie itself, where it's spoken out loud in ways that contradict each other. "Easy".

Can't really recall seeing that tmnt 2 is among the bottom of the barrel cringeworthy for me. If that is true, it's so godawful bad it can't even pronounce names correctly lol. :tlol:

Shredder called "Rah-zar" 51:22. Maybe people need to check their own ears.

Even using google translate's voice says Rahzar ;) https://translate.google.com.my/?ie=...auto/en/rahzar

And Nick toon clearly says Rahzar too.

Seriously?

Shiro Kame 01-19-2015 09:13 AM

It's usually pronounced "RAH-ZAR".

BabyTurtles 01-19-2015 10:46 AM

I thought it was RAH-ZAR

like RAWR!!(since he's a dog) then the end of razor.

Candy Kappa 01-19-2015 11:10 AM

Rah-zar here as well.

ToTheNines 01-19-2015 11:23 AM

This thread is getting annoying.

Hahaha, nice. I guess the Foot Clan is a branch of Playmates Toys.

Seriously though, I can kinda get Rahzar... but even with Mikey naming him in the Nicktoon I still thought it was a massive stretch. But Tokka is just a big WTF. I guess it sounds cool but what the hell does it mean?

DarthRaphael 01-19-2015 11:26 AM

Since some of you can't maintain a civil conversation without swearing I did some cleanup.

Leo656 01-19-2015 11:32 AM

Yeah, no, that's always better than just getting rid of stupid people.

We can do that too. If you find issues just report it.

Netkeeper 01-19-2015 05:34 PM

Thankful for the cleanup. Those posts were just unnecessary roughness.

CyberCubed 01-19-2015 05:57 PM

I'm pretty sure the Turtles pronounced it Ray-zar.

I thought the same thing; he just blurts Rahzar out of nowhere, like it's the first thing that popped into his head.

I'd like to think he sat up at night with Tatsu spit-balling ideas.
"What about Hurtle and The Wolfenator?... no good?"

Gunpowder 01-20-2015 11:04 AM

I instinctively say "Rah-zar" because I first heard it in the Nick show and it was pronounced that way, but I've heard "Ray" as well. The latter sounds cooler, I think, but I'm so used to saying the other one that I don't see myself straying from that.
