Laura Linney Joining 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2'

I have no idea who she is.

Quote:

Laura Linney, the three-time Oscar nominated actress known for her dramatic work, is picking up a pair of nunchucks and joining the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

The Paramount movie, based on the 1980s comic that spawned toy, cartoons and movies, is in production in New York.

Megan Fox and Will Arnett are back for the sequel, which has newcomers such as Arrow star Stephen Amell and Tyler Perry, the latter another brow-raising casting.

Details for Linney’s role are being kept hidden deep in the sewers.

Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.

Linney has stayed away from big studio franchise movies until TMNT 2 but the actress, now a new mom with a one year old under her belt, is becoming open to projects that are geared for younger audiences.

Her more recent movies have been a mix of period and dramas, ranging from Hyde Park on the Hudson to The Fifth Estate. She is currently on screen opposite Ian McKellan in Mr. Holmes and has the all-star 1920 literary drama Genius, with Colin Firth, Guy Pearce, Jude Law and Nicole Kidman, in the can.

What in the world. This is getting to be character overload.

graphic_content 04-30-2015 10:51 AM

my guess...April's mother.

something to deepen April's character, by bringing in a parental figure. She makes an appearance all these years after April's father death.

and only because I have a strong distaste for the writers - I'm betting this woman comes forward only to reveal that April's biological father is actually Eric Sachs - which will give William Fitchner something to do, since he isnt Shredder anymore.

just off the cuff.

TigerClaw 04-30-2015 10:53 AM

If she plays April's Mom, I wonder if she will find out about the Turtles?

plastroncafe 04-30-2015 11:23 AM

Does she need a new boat or something?
I just...I love LOVE Laura Linney, and am so perplexed.

bushido 04-30-2015 11:36 AM

It's obvious that she will be April's mother, in a flashback maybe.

turtlefanforever 04-30-2015 11:41 AM

hmm

My guess because this is PD and M bay they'll add a new character. She'll be Splinters mother Splintette

Vicky82 04-30-2015 11:43 AM

I know who she is now as I looked her up on IMDB she was in Love Actually, The Truman show and Congo.

Why is it obvious?
She could just as easily be Casey's Mom.
What if Casey's Mom runs 2nd Time Around?

... wait, did we see the junkshop in the first movie? I honestly can't remember.

Vicky82 04-30-2015 11:50 AM

She also could be working for Baxter Stockman or April works with her or she could be April's Auntie.

Maybe you're right it's not that obvious. I'm sorry, I thought that because April's father was in flashback in the first one.

Everybody get pumped for the Ninja Turtles to get about 30 minutes of screentime in their own movie, gang! :tgrin:

Michael Bay got terrific, respected, award-winning actors like John Turturro, John Voight, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Kelsey Grammer and Stanley freakin' Tucci to star in his garbage Transformers movies. It's a big, quick bag of money and it gets them mainstream attention, so I can see why they'd slum it for a payday in between projects they actually care about.

IndigoErth 04-30-2015 01:03 PM

Calling it. Venus. Everyone panic mode.

:P God I hope it's not true.

Irma maybe?

You know, vaguely speaking and mostly based on stigma alone. :trolleye: Humor and being a talking non-human doesn't really necessarily translate into being properly geared toward kids.

The guys do one goofy, very child-friendly series and they can never live it down. lol

WHAT! She is the lady that introduces Downton Abbey in Masterpiece Classic.
HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW HER!

Why do actors do this? Must everyone be their audience?
Including their kids?

If she is going to play April's mom does that mean that she will be dating CM Punk Casey's dad?

From wrestling to comic to kissing Oscar nominated actresses.
Punk sure has gone places.

newhire13 04-30-2015 01:34 PM

Wow. They definitely seem to be aiming high on this one.

IndigoErth 04-30-2015 01:38 PM

So many high tier paychecks, so little Turtles time...

They add any more they're going to have to remove the lifelike textures from the Turtles just to afford to render them out.

Didn't you see my other post, I remember her now, I'm not very good at remembering names and have to look them up to jog my memory.

Yep.

I am become sadness.

More and more A+ star listed celebrities joining in. Awesome. :tcool::tlove:

Leo656 04-30-2015 05:01 PM

More and more "Everything EXCEPT Ninja Turtles" in a f***ing Ninja Turtles movie. Awful.

Flavor-of-the-month TV stars in major roles and "We're Too Good For This" "legitimate" actors slumming it for a paycheck a'la Ben Kingsley. Yep. They're really coming at this thing from the right direction.

I'm surprised we've heard so little about the Turtles' actors.

I mean, ok, maybe Raph's guy is shooting early stuff because of Casey and maybe the others don't start filming yet (?), but come on. The only thing we've heard about Alan Richardson...was directly from him. Not right if people practically ignore the cast playing the real stars of TMNT.

Megan Fox was the star of the first movie, Megan Fox and Stephen Amell will be the stars of this movie.

You don't say. And yes, is why I said TMNT, not "the movie."

newhire13 04-30-2015 05:42 PM

I'm really not surprised there hasn't been much shown with the turtle actors yet. I mean they are playing giant mutant turtles, I imagine most of their scenes won't have them running around the streets lol. They're probably doing soundstage stuff while this is going on.

I was pointing more to the giant head to the left, but... fair enough. :twink:

But yeah, we've made the same point: the idea that A+/award-winning actors automatically lend any credibility to projects like these is ridiculous. Even the most celebrated actor in the world isn't necessarily above taking a garbage gig for a paycheque. It's just the business.

Leo656 04-30-2015 07:57 PM

Like Patrick Stewart in TMNT 07? :P

Leo656 04-30-2015 08:03 PM

The amount of random and crazy stuff Patrick Stewart gets attached to makes me wonder if he has a cocaine habit on par with his character Avery Bullock on American Dad.

"...Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go party the nose clean off my face!" :tlol:

I mean... yeah, kinda. And Captain Freakin' America. (Okay, he hasn't won any legit awards. But he's Captain Freakin' America, and that's way more important than a gold statue.)

Though BayTurtles makes TMNT '07 look like a timeless masterpiece by comparison. It's no 1990 movie by any stretch, and the overall plot was half-baked, but at least someone, on some level, cared about the property on that one and had good intentions. I can watch it without feeling completely depressed, which means... something?

He smokes weed in a treehouse on the regular, it's no wonder he gets involved in odd stuff.

He's had his share of early troubles, but overall he's had a pretty charmed life and has done some good work. And I've got a prematurely bald head too. Maybe I should fake a British accent and emulate.

I wouldn't say he's been attached to a lot of "weird" stuff, but he has had a lot of less "well-known" roles, like the voice of Emperor Uriel Septim in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (where he is assassinated in the intro, but still....), or as Khelban Blackstaff of the Forgotten Realms. Minor roles that most people never heard of, maybe, but still GOOD roles.

Heh, I thought I recognized his voice. :D recently started with Oblivion again, since I didn't finish it before Skyrim came out. But, I might put it on hold until Skyblivion comes, and Skywind. The gameplay frustrates me to no end but I wanna experience the stories.

Wouldn't mind Arena and Daggerfall worked into Skyrim engine as well. :P

Sounds quite possible to me and it would not be a bad way to justify the need of Sachs in the movies. This could maybe justify the focus on him in the first film, depending on how they will use this in the sequels. April finds out, something happens to Sachs that makes him even more crazy and she tries to save him from his own madness but fails and his madness then becomes his doom.
