New Movie NOT overcrowded, maybe? *speculation/spoilers*
You know, with all of this complaining of all of these actors joining TMNT, I just have to ask; doesn't anybody think they have this planned out, and maybe those characters are just there for certain scenes? What if Vernon has been reduced to a few shots as april's new boss, and his girlfriend only shows up at the costume party and the basketball game scenes? What if the basketball team is only there for the game scene itself? Judith Hoag could just be in a few parts as April's mother who's also a reporter (if that's her role in the film), and the only major humans we have to deal with are April and Casey for most of the movie.
Also, What if Baxter is the main villain for this movie, and shredder is more of a 'boss on the video screen giving orders/Dr. Claw role back in the shadows, with Stockman front and center? Also, Rocksteady and Bebop are henchmen, they are probably going to get as much screen time/development in human form before mutation as most villain lackeys do in these kinds of movies. So not everyone's going to be in every scene. Now, I'm saying this movie is going to be good, but it's no more overcrowded than other movies with minor characters, one scene characters, background characters, and extras. I don't really think this is one aspect of the movie that deserves to be ragged on (though there is plenty of other stuff to legitamately complain about, though) |
People just love to complain about stupid things and in the end, they still stick around the movie forum threads, they still check out the movie. Dont let that get to you.

That said... Really do hope some of these appearances are brief. I hope they keep any need to explain (on screen) any of these characters' presence/involvement/origin really brief. Because if they have to go explaining all that and don't extend this film to at least the common two hours length, Turtle time is in trouble. Until we know how big or small some of those appearances are, it's anyone's guess how minor it really is or cluttered it will be. Edit: And we don't even know if that's the end of it... for all we know they could still bring in more people that won't be shooting until much later. |
You may be right but I just don't buy it.
Celebrity cameos in movies are rarely organic to the plot particularly in cases where the celebs are playing themselves. If the scriptwriters had a great idea for a scene set at an NBA game and decided to reach out to some real basketball players and a high profile audience member to appear then that's fine but the more likely scenario is that Platinum Dunes struck a deal with an agency that represents one or more of these celebrities to appear in one of their movies and wrote a scene specifically for them. And what's the likelihood of this being the case of it being the former rather than the latter. If you think all the likely scenarios that would make a TMNT story would a basketball game come to mind? It's a similar thing with Judith Hoag's involvement. It's clear from some of her interviews she did mentioning the last movie she was subtly vying for a role and I don't begrudge her that or the makers of the movie hiring her specifically to appeal to fans of the classic movie but it doesn't seem her role is important to the plot. I imagine if Elias Koteas started making waves he'd be willing to appear they'd quickly write any kind of scene to fit him in regardless of how well it would fit. So what's the big deal? It's only one scene, right? Well baring in mind that Ambrosio, Carmello and Hoag aren't small cameos but have multiple scenes which are equally as likely specifically written to include them I can't help but think that when the common explanation for why the title characters and story not getting ample attention in the first movie is that the particular form of motion capture they chose was too expensive that they can't be onscreen for too long then it's annoying that money is being used on needless stuff that could be used to give the characters we want to see decent story time. Even putting that aside for the moment; this movie has set itself up to do a lot more with introducing many new major characters and concepts. When you think all the last movie had to do was set up the main characters and their origin (a streamlined one at that) and that took a backseat to April and Sacks then what the odds that TMNT, Splinter, Shredder and not Baxter, Bebop and Rocksteady will be equally shortchanged. That being said I don't care for him being the main villain. Even though I'd like other villains to take center stage and Baxter has long been one of the better candidates I'd want Shredder to have a decent go around first rather than resign him to the crappy role he had in the first except without any action. More importantly Platinum Dunes' circle jerking of the Fred Wolf show makes it unlikely Shredder wouldn't have at least a boss fight in this. Quote:

Also there's a difference between background characters and main characters. Most of these (Shredder, Vernon, Casey, Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter) are MAJOR players in the TMNT. Sure Shredder or Baxter could take a back seat the other and Vernon's role could be reduced, (but since he's Will Arnett I doubt it), but that still leaves Casey and the Mutants on top of April and the Turtles and possibly Splinter depending on the size of his role. That's still a lot of characters for what I'd assume isn't gonna be mush longer than the 1st movies run time....but who knows, the expanded cast could equal an expanded run time.

I'm kind of glad this movie's overcrowded. It means less time of having to look at those awful turtle designs.

They have their better looking moments. Now if the film team will focus on getting mostly those moments... The hell that image... |
I just googled "shh" or something. Blame google. XD

Because Google had only 1 image option for "Shh!"

No but seriously. Let's say they DID "plan it out." So? What if their plan sucks? What if it was poorly planned? They "planned" the first movie out and that one blew. What's your point? Quote:
It'd be so sweet if it wasn't so utterly pathetic and laughable. Trust me Ben. Outside of your occasional desperate love notes to me on this board, I don't give you a second thought. The opposite is clearly true for you. But seriously I have a girlfriend and I'm just not your type. |
There's nothing sadder than unrequited love. :tlol: You're like the Capulets and the Montagues... if only you could put aside your differences with this movie, you could have a beautiful bromance! :trazz:

I immediately thought of Margot Kidder in Superman III.

Wow, this thread went way off the rails:teek:. Feels like the movie forums is a freaking war zone anymore.
And yes, I do think they have a plan, and know what they're doing. Do I think it's a good plan? No, the story will probably be as stupid and terrible as the first movie was. But I do think they are going to give the turtles some screen time, and they aren't cramming too many actors into the film. That doesn't mean it won't be a bad movie, though. |
There's a whining/venting/criticism thread for the Nick Show, there should be one for the PD movies too. Only way to truly separate the fans & haters and keep topics on topic.

I actually think it's the other way around. In all this time I've yet to hear much in the way of valid reasons to like last years movie. It's all about "it's a new interpretation do you want them to do the same thing everytime?" or "it's for a new generation" or "what do you expect in a movie about TMNT?" - those aren't valid reasons, they come off more as excuses. |

As reasonable as a whining thread may be, in this case I have doubts there is really any way to contain it there when we're dealing with a film-Godzilla within the franchise. Although, unlike the show which is more equal opportunity in making anyone dislike something at any time, I feel it might also stigmatize negative comments/opinions as "wrong" and invalid. I'd personally rather refrain from making it cult-like where only positive opinions are freely allowed out in the open.

We tried that though, a praise and a gripe thread. It didn't work.
Although, now that the PD movies have their own sub-section, it's probably a bit more manageable to have threads like that. |

There is a fairly large group for fans of the 2014 movie though: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/group.php?groupid=66 Maybe it'd be worth bringing it back to life, since you have to be a member to post? Could help cut down a bit on the... actually no - cancel everything I just said, I'm not even going to complete that sentence. The fighting will continue regardless of any move that's implemented. It's the internet - people love arguing on the internet. There's always going to be bickering - you could start a thread about the color of grass and I guarantee there would end up being an argument. It's the nature of the beast. I dunno, I don't think it's as bad as it has been in the past, but as the release date draws closer, it'll probably get worse again. *shrugs* |
I'm all for debates, they can be fun as hell, there's just certain people here I don't respect & don't wanna hear from. Blocking doesn't work as these few post so regularly they're always being quoted so you gotta see their drivel regardless. But I wasn't aware of that group, looks great, thanks for bringing it up penny :)

This time next year though, well... keeping some soothing butt rash cream handy might be helpful for many. :tlol: |
So long as casuals & normies don't come in here screaming about what's being done right & wrong when they themselves misremember history & aren't deeply involved in the series', we'll get along this time far better than before. :trazz: Frankly, I'm surprised we haven't already had folks coming here like "y did they make tyler peryy baxter stockboy! he was white with blonde heair! stupid politicaly correct movies......."

What can I say? All of this drama would have been avoided had they done the movie right. I don't have much faith in the sequel for the sole reason that it's a continuation of what we already saw instead of a reboot.
I honestly do not remember all of this when the Imagi movie was out and basically bombed. Yeah, there were strong opinions and arguments, but not to this degree. Not enough to cause all this drama, banning and a completely different section to separate it from the rest. And unlike the Imagi film where we can all look back and agree it wasn't all that great.... people are still violently defending this one. Go figure. |
What we are looking at today is a very severe lack of the ability to develop characters and plot lines. This is particularly extreme in the case of TV shows, many of which shoot their entire wad in episode 1, and then very quickly fizzle into the repetitive nothings they are beyond the first (and only) original idea their creators had. Many movies do the same thing, stuffing 17 superheroes and 45 supervillains - complete with 60 years worth of comic book plot twists - into 95 minutes of non-stop speshul FX. No wonder the sequels suck.
If I'm the script writer, TMNT movie no.1 introduces the turtles and Splinter, fleshing out their characters nicely, who foil some Foot Clan plot, with plenty of genuine Ninja action. If I have Megan Fox under contract, I'll introduce April, too. The Shredder might appear as a half-hidden menacing figure towards the end, foreshadowing what might come in movie no. 2. |
