New Movie NOT overcrowded, maybe? *speculation/spoilers*

You know, with all of this complaining of all of these actors joining TMNT, I just have to ask; doesn't anybody think they have this planned out, and maybe those characters are just there for certain scenes? What if Vernon has been reduced to a few shots as april's new boss, and his girlfriend only shows up at the costume party and the basketball game scenes? What if the basketball team is only there for the game scene itself? Judith Hoag could just be in a few parts as April's mother who's also a reporter (if that's her role in the film), and the only major humans we have to deal with are April and Casey for most of the movie.

Also, What if Baxter is the main villain for this movie, and shredder is more of a 'boss on the video screen giving orders/Dr. Claw role back in the shadows, with Stockman front and center? Also, Rocksteady and Bebop are henchmen, they are probably going to get as much screen time/development in human form before mutation as most villain lackeys do in these kinds of movies. So not everyone's going to be in every scene.

Now, I'm saying this movie is going to be good, but it's no more overcrowded than other movies with minor characters, one scene characters, background characters, and extras. I don't really think this is one aspect of the movie that deserves to be ragged on (though there is plenty of other stuff to legitamately complain about, though)

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

People just love to complain about stupid things and in the end, they still stick around the movie forum threads, they still check out the movie. Dont let that get to you.

To be fair, complaints and disinterest don't necessarily go hand in hand. Would be a different story if the Turtles were something no one ever heard of before. But people still care about them and what's done with/to them for better or for worse.

That said...

Really do hope some of these appearances are brief. I hope they keep any need to explain (on screen) any of these characters' presence/involvement/origin really brief. Because if they have to go explaining all that and don't extend this film to at least the common two hours length, Turtle time is in trouble.

Until we know how big or small some of those appearances are, it's anyone's guess how minor it really is or cluttered it will be.

Edit: And we don't even know if that's the end of it... for all we know they could still bring in more people that won't be shooting until much later.

You may be right but I just don't buy it.

Celebrity cameos in movies are rarely organic to the plot particularly in cases where the celebs are playing themselves.

If the scriptwriters had a great idea for a scene set at an NBA game and decided to reach out to some real basketball players and a high profile audience member to appear then that's fine but the more likely scenario is that Platinum Dunes struck a deal with an agency that represents one or more of these celebrities to appear in one of their movies and wrote a scene specifically for them. And what's the likelihood of this being the case of it being the former rather than the latter. If you think all the likely scenarios that would make a TMNT story would a basketball game come to mind?

It's a similar thing with Judith Hoag's involvement. It's clear from some of her interviews she did mentioning the last movie she was subtly vying for a role and I don't begrudge her that or the makers of the movie hiring her specifically to appeal to fans of the classic movie but it doesn't seem her role is important to the plot. I imagine if Elias Koteas started making waves he'd be willing to appear they'd quickly write any kind of scene to fit him in regardless of how well it would fit.

So what's the big deal? It's only one scene, right? Well baring in mind that Ambrosio, Carmello and Hoag aren't small cameos but have multiple scenes which are equally as likely specifically written to include them I can't help but think that when the common explanation for why the title characters and story not getting ample attention in the first movie is that the particular form of motion capture they chose was too expensive that they can't be onscreen for too long then it's annoying that money is being used on needless stuff that could be used to give the characters we want to see decent story time.

Even putting that aside for the moment; this movie has set itself up to do a lot more with introducing many new major characters and concepts. When you think all the last movie had to do was set up the main characters and their origin (a streamlined one at that) and that took a backseat to April and Sacks then what the odds that TMNT, Splinter, Shredder and not Baxter, Bebop and Rocksteady will be equally shortchanged.

Quote:
he only major humans we have to deal with are April and Casey for most of the movie.
The only major human character we had to deal with in last years movie was April and she still took up most of the time with a story literally no one liked.

Quote:

I don't think anyone is begrudging Baxter being in this regardless of what people think of the casting choice. He's a major character that deserves screen time.

That being said I don't care for him being the main villain. Even though I'd like other villains to take center stage and Baxter has long been one of the better candidates I'd want Shredder to have a decent go around first rather than resign him to the crappy role he had in the first except without any action. More importantly Platinum Dunes' circle jerking of the Fred Wolf show makes it unlikely Shredder wouldn't have at least a boss fight in this.

Despite the last movie's attempt to rip off several recent comic book movies it just copied their superficial aspects rather than understanding why they are doing so well..hence why TMNT didn't do as well in comparison. In the Blue Door script which they are still pulling Bebop and Rocksteady come out of nowhere with no origin or setup. I'd be willing to bet it's the same here.

Also there's a difference between background characters and main characters. Most of these (Shredder, Vernon, Casey, Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter) are MAJOR players in the TMNT. Sure Shredder or Baxter could take a back seat the other and Vernon's role could be reduced, (but since he's Will Arnett I doubt it), but that still leaves Casey and the Mutants on top of April and the Turtles and possibly Splinter depending on the size of his role. That's still a lot of characters for what I'd assume isn't gonna be mush longer than the 1st movies run time....but who knows, the expanded cast could equal an expanded run time.

since the pipeline is in place, and the special effects, namely the Turtles, have an established precedence, im hoping that all the experimentation they did the first time, is gone, and as a result the Turtles will have more screen time, and a much longer movie. seeing as the standard for anything these days seems to be 2 hrs, im hoping for something at least that long.

I'm kind of glad this movie's overcrowded. It means less time of having to look at those awful turtle designs.

I'm currently there on an extra tab; I managed to pull up a bunch of options.

No but seriously. Let's say they DID "plan it out." So? What if their plan sucks? What if it was poorly planned?

They "planned" the first movie out and that one blew.

What's your point?

Oh I just noticed that! Haha jesus I haven't even been on AT ALL today and he's still thinking about me.

It'd be so sweet if it wasn't so utterly pathetic and laughable.

Trust me Ben. Outside of your occasional desperate love notes to me on this board, I don't give you a second thought. The opposite is clearly true for you.

But seriously I have a girlfriend and I'm just not your type.

There's nothing sadder than unrequited love. You're like the Capulets and the Montagues... if only you could put aside your differences with this movie, you could have a beautiful bromance!

I immediately thought of Margot Kidder in Superman III.
