Official Ep Discussion S4 Ep 12: Evil of Lord Dregg

Dregg is back and this time, he gets a drop on both the Turtles and Monalisa.

In this episode, Raph feels he's losing his fighting mojo as they face Lord Dregg on his home turf, The planet Sectoid 1.

Will Raph be able to pull himself together enough to take down Dregg?
https://scontent-vie1-1.cdninstagram...MDc4Ng%3D%3D.2

Or will it be nothing but kissy face between him and Mona?

Redworld96 04-10-2016 03:08 AM

It's available now on iTunes

Spoiler:
I am sorry for Casey’s fans, but in this episode he was very very very stupid :tgrumble:

You're not joking? Because if that's the case, does make sense in context? It's not some kind of trick?
Spoiler:
The character we've been seeing for half a season really is a robot?

kelligrafie 04-10-2016 05:51 AM

Why are we using spoilers in a thread about the actual episode?

I thought we'd gone beyond this silliness?

If people don't want an episode spoiling, then they shouldn't go on a thread specifically dedicated to recapping the episode.

Look I'm on here and I've got another 6 or 7 hours before I find a decent stream/upload for the episode. It'd be my own fault for seeing anything that's a massive plot reveal. I wouldn't be able to blame any of you and nobody else would be able to either.

Chillax with the spoiler tags.

Vicky82 04-10-2016 05:59 AM

Well the episode hasn't aired on Nick yet so I preferred to put under spoilers, As soon as it's aired I won't use the spoilers.

Please avoid due to spoilers.

(It's called The Evil of Dregg, there's no "Lord" in the title. Sorry, personal thing that bothers me)

(sighs) Well, at least I get an early watch again. I'll keep it under spoilers, but when the episode is released, I'll rid the spoiler tag. Should be fair, right? :) Anyways, review for right now:

Spoiler:
Overall, it's mediocre. There's two plotlines going on once more, one with Don, Fugitoid, and April and another with the remaining team. Since the subplot doesn't do a whole lot outside a rescue near the climax, I'll discuss that first. You remember the sneak preview clip we got at nick.com? Well, Casey once more is spewing his "metal" phrase and when he and Leo fall, cue the bugs coming out. In the ensuing fight, Jones whacks a bug with his baseball bat at a bug, which attaches to Donatello.

Once this occurs, Don, April, and Fugitoid are partially out of the episode. Don's cure is a quick fix like Fugitoid's coma in Revenge of the Triceratons last week. After being cured, Don comes up with a plan to use the cure as pesticide where the trio break in to save the team. The spray runs out though and Don is almost eaten by Dregg. I get Raphael is often the scapegoat of the show, but Don is really getting screwed for no rhyme or reason. He didn't get a plot fully fleshed out last week and didn't learn anything. Also, April is using her powers again to assist in the rescue mission... great.

As for the main plot with how it connects to the plot, the Salamanderians return once more. Off camera, it's revealed their planet is threatened for extermination by Dregg. When Sal is presumed kidnapped, Mona fires a distress signal to the Ulixes and asks for the Turtles' help. There's some teasing from Michelangelo towards Raphael and hints of Raph going love mode. After discovering Dregg's lair, cue the above scene with the bug ambush where the three remaining Turtles, Mona, and Casey storm Dregg's base. Once arriving in awesome looking scenery, the above reason is revealed which is the cause of Raph becoming depressed.

Once this occurs, the Turtles and Casey get trapped in some kind of orange container. Thankfully, Casey does something useful by utilizing his "taser" and breaks the seal. As a result and after Leo saying Don will save them with an army of Salamanderians (sarcasm on that), the four are tossed into a pit under ownership of a new creature. Cue the subplot being inserted where the three return and the Salamanderians betrayed, and April throws a tentacle down to save the four. All of them escape with Dregg in hot pursuit; also, Armaggon's here, I barely mentioned him because he does next to nothing. He's eaten though and I doubt we'll see him again ala Star Wars.

Battle outside where Mona and Sal refuse to leave despite Don's protests and Raph still not trusting her. Mona then says "I love you" and cue Raph's mojo back. He defeats Dregg (revealed as a robot) and then that's it. Mona and Raph make up and end of episode where they're about to kiss.

That's the whole episode, it really doesn't advance the plot at all and could have been right after The Cosmic Ocean. In terms of design, Dregg's hideout looks good, but the bugs personally aren't that good. The ones when the eight first arrive remind me too much of Stockman-Fly and the others personally didn't impress me. Not the best looking episode (that'd be either Beyond the Known Universe or Journey to the Center of Mikey's Mind for me despite issues with both) but solid either way. As for plot, that's an entirely different matter.

I continuously mention family as the central Turtles theme. Sure, the action, comedy and characters are what we all enjoy primarily but it shouldn't come at the cost of the theme. A line Raph says directly destroys that; nevermind going back to an old plot too, why kill the dynamic? Mona and Raph's relationship shouldn't impact everything for their friends; I'm aware if love causes us to like the lover more than people. However, the line just doesn't sit well for me.

.... I'm going to discuss more later when the episode is actually aired, as the Mona x Raph relationship has been on my mind with how it'd play out here. Not trying to be biased to Raph as he's my favorite of the Turtles usually, but this episode isn't impressing me. As of right now, it'll be 4.5/10, it's got some fun action and designs but overall the execution just doesn't bode well personally.

kelligrafie 04-10-2016 08:00 AM

I bet the Ramona fans will feel a bit more than robbed at the end scene where it goes into freeze frame.

Cue a load of photoshopped freeze frames appearing on deviant art over the next few days.

I'm glad I watched it earlier otherwise I would have missed the first few minutes because I was watching a guy putting a sword down his throat on Britain's Got Talent.

Powder 04-10-2016 09:34 AM

An otherwise conceptually awesome episode ruined by excessive shipping fodder & the universe's most villainous villains being uncharacteristically goofy. I loved parts of it, hated others. :tconfuse: :tgrumble: This Raph & Mona sh*t is no bueno, sorry. It was cute the first time around, now it's just over the top pandering. I can forgive the bad guys being used for comedic relief, but not that. While I did enjoy the episode overall, this is the first time I'm walking away from the TV with a bad taste in my mouth. I was at first glad to see her made into a villain, I figured it was diss to whiny fans in the way that Irma's Kraang Sub-Prime reveal was, but nooo. I was later happy she got killed, but alas, she still lives. Ugh. Anyway, I am very interested in this new take for Dregg. He was in awe at the mention of Triceratons, & then turned out to be a robot. Is he King, the missing Utrom link? Someone else with mysterious yet familiar ties? Hope to see where that goes soon enough.

So, it's like Slade's robot clones, except it's the real one. TBH, if Dregg was organic, bugs living inside of him would be painful. Kind of reminds me of the villain Roach Coach from the Powerpuff Girls, which pretty much had the same gimmick.

I give the episode a 7.5.
Complaints:
What was with Dregg and Armaggon this episode? They seemed... goofy. Are they turning into this arc's 87 Shredder and Krang?

The Ramona ship is getting stale, just stop with the love interests already. This is the fourth time they had Mona and Raph kiss, 3 times being at the end of their respective episode. The ship is turning into Apritello 2.0. Can we kill off Mona some time soon?

Is Dregg defeated? He was just decapitated. They didn't make any progress, so is Salamandria still doomed?

I thought it was a good episode, the Raph and and Mona Lisa ship will continue. :)

Splinter the boss 04-10-2016 09:47 AM

Go, Dregg! Go, Dregg! Go, Dregg! what a shame!
Dregg is a robot, I wasn't expecting that, however I wasn't surprised either.
I can understand Mona Lisa because she was trying to save her home planet, at least she redeemed herself.

Casey, this episode, was annoying at the beginning when he said "Yes!" when he found out that Armaggon was behind the capture. Then again, he put in some good fights. Raph, and Casey in the lair was hilarious, couldn't resist laughing.

Fugitoid tried to kill Dregg, Armaggon like that, How pacifist!

Raphael in rage mode was unstoppable, haven't seen him this furious since "the good, the bad, and Casey jones", It was cool.
8/10.

TigerClaw 04-10-2016 09:51 AM

OrangeNinja1987 04-10-2016 09:53 AM

It was an okay episode. I don't have much to say. The shipping stuff was mostly bearable but I got tired of it fast.
Raph and Mona have known each other how long? And they're already in love?
I can chock that up to dramatic teen relationships.
A couple funny jokes, but not one that I remembered.
Easily the best part was when Raph went berserk. From all the downplayed ninja action this season, it feels like I haven't seen something like that for a looooooong time.
I still hate how April only shoots a gun. What was the point of that multi-season story of her becoming a kunoichi if she never uses her skills?! In one of the last episodes of her training, she was even sparring with Leo!
7/10

He had a big furious moment in The Invasion.

Yeah I liked that too he was awesome.

The Raph fans should have liked it also but they will ignore it and still moan about Raph and Mona Lisa's relationship. :P

I'm not even a Raph fan but c'mon, one small moment of action doesn't make up for all the brain fog & sappy stuff.

Good episode, good fighting, strange world, I am really enjoying the space arc, I will be sad when it ends.

The sappy stuff wasn't as bad as it was in The War For Dimension X (Raph and Mona were nose touching every few minutes), to me it seemed a lot better.

NinjaPug 04-10-2016 10:14 AM

I'd be pissed if I was a Raph fan watching this episode. He lost his will to fight because Mona betrayed them? Give me a break.

Mona is a weird situation for me. I want more female characters on this show but if her character is going to continue to be portrayed in this manner (specifically the relationship with Raph) then I want them to get rid of her.

Ok so if your partner betrayed you, you probably would act like that.

What a weird response by trying to compare this to real life. It's ok. You don't have to try and justify everything people didn't like about the episode.

As long as they leave out Raph doing the gender twisting pose I'm OK with it.
If it was funny, then okey cool...but it's not. It's stupid and getting old fast.

I thought there would be some sort of hiatus for the show by now.

It looks like The hiatus will happen after Earth's Last Stand and I guess that will be at least 2 1/2 months because of the movie coming out.

Exactly! ...Though I can understand Mona's and Sal's reasoning for it.

I've always imagined that the most prominent fear of the turtles, especially Raphael, is being betrayed by their friends/comrades/allies. Raphael, being the stubborn and angry individual as he is, still does yearn for someone to trust and reach out to; afterall, having many (human) friends is a luxury that's impossible to come by too much, even more so given Raph's mood and psychological mindset. If, God forbid, he should find himself in a badly beaten position only to look up and see the face of a betrayer looking down unsympathetically at him, you can only imagine the mix of berserk fury, utter sadness, and blame for being such a fool swirling around his mind all at the same time and it could devastate him beyond repair if he survives.
The other turtles all have the same fear inside but to a smaller extent. This series in particular, Donatello has a rivalry with Casey for April's affections. However, we've seen in other episodes that they're always able to put it aside when necessary and when the other needs help. Imagine a nightmare in Donnie's mind though, where it plays out the other way and Casey, alone with Don in a life and death struggle against an enemy, in fact leaves him for dead so that the competition is eliminated.
Mikey is basically a lover--I've always joked that his heart's way too big for there to be room for a brain. The only pain and fear that he and Leo really feel is loss rather than betrayal. Loss is so constantly on Leo's mind he almost doesn't have time for those thoughts. They can expect betrayal from an enemy, but not someone they've put trust in. How they would feel about betrayal outside the results of losing one of their own family would be unknown, but if it did indeed happen, the consequences on their psyches would be enormous for sure.

pannoni1 04-10-2016 12:49 PM

This episode I'll have to admit was a bit underachieving in terms of what I hope it would be. If you like the shipping/emotional stuff, it was quite a surprised, but otherwise it turned out to be just a filler episode in terms of the overall story. As others have said, Casey continues to get the short end of the stick, Raph more prominent, and Armaggon was just so stupid you couldn't feel for him.

Show grade: 6/10

Utrommaniac 04-10-2016 12:52 PM

Spoiler:
It seems like Raph and Mona have been keeping in touch between episodes, so I can swallow their relationship a little better than if they had just met on a few occasions and never stayed in contact.

And was that Dregg just a decoy robot? Certainly the less cool of the robot decapitations this series has offered, though

Autbot_Benz 04-10-2016 01:01 PM

shippers ruin everything first Arrow and now Turtles. I jab at the people who whine about Raph on this show but I actually side with them a bit on this episode . That was pathetic he couldn't fight because of Mona.

Raphael:
Ugh! Where do they come up with this stuff?

Vicky82 04-10-2016 01:06 PM

I've noticed that Mikey has been awesome this season. He seems more focus, he hasn't made any mistakes.

He's been amazing these last few episode. Last week he saved April, killed some of those gremlins, he supported and cheered Donnie up. This week, he saved April again, killed some bugs, he was concerned for Donie and he was being protective over Raph when Leo was annoyed at him.

I hope his amazing moments continues.

Hero 04-10-2016 01:51 PM

Spoiler:
The Dregg revelation is pretty cool though not as much of a surprise considering what his minions are called. Some of Dregg's toy design itself is also a giveaway.

A hint of Transformers Beast Wars in there. I'm quite pleased about that

ranger_scout 04-10-2016 02:06 PM

I thought that today's episode was one of the better ones from this season. It kind of had a Return of Jedi feel to it since the heroes had to avoid being digested by a pit monster very similar to the the Sarlacc. Another highlight for me was the reaction Raph had when he learned that Mona Lisa loved him.

neatoman 04-10-2016 02:50 PM

So yeah, Dregg being revealed as a robot was weirder than I thought it'd be, we saw him eat and drink before that happened. I don't think it's a decoy either, if that was the case then there would have been an additional scene showing the real Dregg in order to clarify that.

But it does have some interesting implications, if that wasn't a decoy then who built Dregg and why?
